SportsRe: Wenger; What Next? by loyika(m): 2:39pm On May 17, 2007
Stuff on our transfers here;

http://www.arsenalnewsreview.co.uk/news/615/42/

and then this;

"Arsenal is a model of sanity, an oasis of calm. Well, almost.

Your favourite club announced the sale of Muamba on the same day they announced the signing of Lukasz Fabianski, a 22-year old Polish goalkeeper.

Have you ever seen more tidy book-keeping than that? Sell a midfielder for £2 million, buy a goalkeeper for £2 million ? If Muamba is successful at Birmingham, collect a further £2 million. If Fabianski is successful in five years time but gets restless, flog him for £8 million.

This kind of transfer activity is prudent and strategic. This is what Danny Fiszman calls being "financially conservative."

Or looking at it another way, Fabianski's cost of £2 million is the matchday receipts for one game at the Emirates. The money from the Fulham game bought this new goalkeeper.

So Arsene Wenger is an auditor's dream. He wants to balance Arsenal's books because he feels responsible for the debt he encouraged the club to get into. The big stadium was his idea and his success made it possible, but he always knew he would have to skimp on players between 2004 and 2008.

I think that one dark and sleepless night he made a deal with himself. He said something like, " I've got broad shoulders, I'm not as young as I was but I'll take the flak, we can finish third or fourth for five years and have a few Cup runs and turn a medium-sized club into the biggest football club in the biggest city in Europe, and we will then be secure near the top of the richest league in the world. It's a Herculean task and nobody but me would have had the vision to imagine it, or the stamina to see it through and guide Arsenal into a new era in a new stadium with wonderful, glorious trophy-winning teams."

AND THAT COULD HAPPEN !
It could all work out as planned.

But in the meantime we are watching a talented but unbalanced young team which can't win anything

How far can Arsene go with the players he now has? Who knows? Right now, I'm not too optimistic about next year. And maybe he knows this squad's going nowhere and he's just trying to get through this five-year period without spending any money. If his recent disciplinary record is anything to go by, the truth may have started to dawn on him. Because Arsene Wenger, the cool Professor, has never been in disciplinary trouble with the FA three times in one season. There was even a rumour that he offered to resign after the Alan Pardew confrontation at West Ham. While fans and pundits thought the team needed some experienced players, Arsene kept saying he had a strong belief in this team.

Will next season be better? It boils down to : was 2006-2007 a season in the bank ?

If it was, next season could be better. Can Arsenal improve and finish second in 2008? Or will they need a flying start and luck with injuries to finish fourth again?

Can Aston Villa or Everton come out of the pack and claim fourth place?Or are Spurs now the bigger threat thanks to Berbatov's 23 goals and Robbie Keane's 22? If they sell Defoe, replace Carrick with another classy passer, and keep King fit all season, could Spurs challenge Arsenal ? I doubt it. But stranger things have happened in this whacky old game.

My usual view regarding next season is : Ask me on September 1st, after the transfer window has closed, when I can see the squads each manager has assembled.

Before the start of 2005-2006 my answer was : If Arsene can finish second with this squad, he must know something I don't.

He finished fourth on the last day."

http://www.arsenalnewsreview.co.uk/news/616/42/

Couldn't have said it any better.

Not sure about the Prem next season, depending on what signings Wenger makes, and if our key players can stay fit. What i am sure of is that we will win a Trophy, the problem is which one huh Carliong and FA Cup are just consolation cups, but if we get a good striker like Tevez we could go all the way in the CL (probably push for the Prem, but i still give the team one more season to finally gel, if all the key players stay together).

Next season will be one of fun and frustration as usual. I believe we should concentrate on the Prem and CL, and spend less effort on FA and Milk Cup, going for the Quadruple or Treble might seems cool, but in every war you chose your battles, or else you lose everything.

We will get back on track, no doubt about that. The isssue will be how long it will take huh.

LETS GO GUNNERS (Can't wait for the new season to start cool cool Emirate Cup starts July 28th cool So near but so far cry cry)

Will paste 2 articles from Myles P that really says all i want to say;

"EVERY team needs goalscorers.

Bottom line, Arsenal didn't have enough goalscorers this season.

Van Persie did well with 13 before he got injured scoring his 13th, Gilberto slotted 11 goals including penalties to keep his team going, but the other players didn't score often enough, although their league total was decent.

Spurs and Liverpool, who were fifth and third, scored 57 goals each, while fourth-placed Arsenal scored 63.

Chelsea scored 64 and Manchester United got a mighty 83, proving that they were the best team in the Premiership by far.

Chelsea had the strongest squad and the strongest method and should have walked the league and got to the Champions League Final.

But Jose Mourinho was too concerned with keeping his unbeaten home record, so he drew seven games at Stamford Bridge.

My rule-of-thumb, starting a season, is that you are looking to win at least 26 games if you want the title.

Arsenal won 19.Liverpool won 20, and Chelsea won 24.

Man United won 28 games.

They lost five, two more than Chelsea."

So that explains how our season went, and Wenger has those stats at his disposal, so he will know what he has to live up to.

@ SOMZE

Thats what i loathe about (being) Nigerian(s); can't find a more fickle bunch anywhere else in the world tongue embarassed

ARSENAL DEAD huh

Arsenal despite losing key member of Squad and with the Youngest backline in top football, Finish the season 4th, Gets to the Champ League final (with a record breaking Clean sheet games haul); eventually losing to a better Barca team on the Night.

Arsenal despite moving to a new Stadia, losing more players, (most through injuries) Finish the season 4th (Goal difference), Young squad gets to the Carling cup final, and despite a classy display, eventually lose to an experienced Chelsea Team on the day.

Wow if Arsenal being dead still means we can still be hanging on in there, then i would rather be at my club. It's good to know you Somze. Hopefully we will see where your loyalties lie when Chelsea hit a rough patch (which happens to all clubs my friend), then as they say, we can seperate the Wheat from the Chaff. As most Chelsea fans are like typical Nigerians; FICKLE!! tongue tongue tongue

Arsenal have been 2 seasons with out the Prem, we will survive that. The mancs went 3 seasons before they got the Trophy back, lets see how you (So called) Chelsea fans hold up, if you go with out the Trophy for 1 more year. Then if you are still here saying; BLUES FOR LIFE!! I will reckon with you, not before!!

Wormy

Could you please stop this ARSENAL VS CHELSEA STUFF

Do Chelsea have more trophies than Arsenal: NO!!

So there really is no point in this huh Depending on your result against the Scum on Saturday, you guys could be left with only 1 trophy to show for this season, then everyone starts off on a clean slate (with only club loyalties, being the only thing that will spur fans on to claim their club will win such and such!!)

When your Trophy haul is anywhere near us, or surpasses ours, you can gloat all you want, but its funny when the Scum and Pool raise their hands at being higher than Arsenal in terms of Trophies, Chelsea (Due to a period of recent success, which to be honest, no one knows for how long it will last!? Not even you Wormy can predict how long it will last) now feel they have gathered enough imaginery trophies to compete huh.

Like we both agreed, lets see where both clubs are in 3 to 4 years, then we can give a better assesment of Chelsea's apparent rise!! Cause Wormy; if you guys cannot take advantage of the fortunate luck (in terms of the arrival of RA) you are having this Era, one wonders when next you all will have another chance of such good fortunes.

Remember it took 50 years for a League title to be lifted (Kudo on winning it back to back) but in the case you only end up with the Carling Cup, Can you honestly see that as success huh That My friend is like 1 step forward and 2 steps back.

Now is the point where you mention how Arsenal is faring lipsrsealed, Oh well, like i said; lets see in 3 to 4 years time (Apart from Die hard Mancs, peeps didn't really give the Scum a chance to win the Prem esp with Ruud leaving at the begining of the season, but look what happened).

Razorr huh huh huh

When was the last time Tottenham ever finished above Arsenal huh But i can tell you the last time Chelsea finished below us; 2004.

So looking at my future, Unless the Spuds decide to win the Prem next season huh that my dear is the only way they will ever finish above us.

As for the future undecided, Razorr, start getting use to returning back to being below us grin grin grin we have let you guys enjoy 3 years on top, now this MISSIONARY Position has to change over grin grin

How can you argue about the past when Chelsea have none huh huh

Do you also know that if you lose the FA Cup and win only the Carling this season, this could spell another 50 years of only winning 1 cup every few years grin grin

Chelsea might be heading back to where they came from; THE MINI STAGE

How much money are you guys going to spend over the summer to try and Win the Champions League (You won't win the League next year so don't waste your time bothering about that grin grin)

Razorr; Pre 2004 which football team did you support huh huh

Razorr grin grin

I see you can count Chelsea's trophy haul on both hands, Now try borrowing an extra pair of hands to count either Arsenal's or the Scum's or the Pools's Trophy haul, since you like listing out FA Cup wins and such tongue tongue

Did you know that Coventry have also lifted the FA CUP huh Even Blackburn have a better record than Chelsea with the FA Cup tongue

European super cup (what a silly trophy tongue) You raise up, hmmmm huh The Pool have won it thrice so guess you still have a lot of catching up to do there tongue

Even the Cup winners cup, is not even a trophy Arsenal haven't won, so there is no need to bring that up.

I repeat, WHAT CENTER STAGE ARE YOU RECLAIMING!!

Apart from your 3 league Titles, (One 50 years apart from the other 2) what other things can you hold up, that others can't (apart from getting 95 points in the league or equalling Liverpools home record, i repeat EQUALLING!!).

So don't bust a vein, screaming Blue Murder, it ain't anyone's fault you chose to support Chelsea huh So live with it, and enjoy your club, but you all should stop claiming stuff you never had tongue undecided CENTER STAGE!!

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Who Is Better: Shevy Or Henry by loyika(m): 10:34am On May 16, 2007
Listen dude!? No one is arguing with you undecided.

Henry has scored more goals in the Prem, simple because he has been in the Prem longer than Ruud. GET IT!!

But Ruud has a better convertion rate per goal, and Ruud has made it in 3 different leagues, while Henry's success really came with his move to Arsenal (really didn't do much with Monaco and Juve). Where Henry has a better edge is with his National team, where he will soon be the highest goal scorer for France in their history. In the Prem he might eventually surpass Andy Cole, but i doubt he will surpass king Shearer cool cool

Like i said; Ruud and Sheva are better Poachers, while Henry is a better all round footballer.

In general that makes Henry better in terms of being productive, just like Kaka is a better footballer than C Ronaldo is (and might ever be).

cool GOONER 89
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Who Is Better: Shevy Or Henry by loyika(m): 9:38am On May 16, 2007
Listen people we have had this arguement before, don't know why this is coming out again huh huh

But foir the record

1, Sheva and Ruud are better Goal scorers than Henry; Simply because they are natural strikers, and Henry is a Winger converted to a striker, who happens to have the knack for scoring goals (and some goals they are to).

2, Henry is a better overall footballer than either Sheva or Ruud, once again due to his nature as a winger, which explained his pace and ball skills.

3, Henry has achieved more than either Ruud and Sheva in the world of football, in terms of accolades and World achievements (Even if Sheva has a Champions League medal which Henry still has to win)

4, Henry is a far more important personality in sports than either Ruud or Sheva, but that ain't relevant here undecided

So hope that settles that; In conclusion let me say that final analysis is that Ruud and Sheva are better Goal Poachers, but Henry is a better all round footballer and contributes more to his team in terms of productivity than either Ruud or Sheva do.

Vieira cheesy

Why are you wasting your time explaining what that bast@rd did, If he felt ok with himself, he should have pleaded with Maureen to give him at least 15 minutes playing time at the Grove last sunday.

And Ade should concentrate on scoring goals, cause many fans are getting fed up with him angry Baptista has been applauded off to sunny spain (Good ridddance i say tongue)

Anyway enough rumours

Seems we want Ryan Babel- I know Wenger likes him, and having seen him with Ajax and Holland in the World Youth Championship, i can say the boy is good (In the Pires mode) he can shoot from outside the D like Rosicky and has strenght like Diaby cool Wouldn't mind if we went for him.

Although i would rather go for Huunterlaar, that Boy is the BOMB.

Do you think we should sell Gallas huh but if we did, who would we get huh

What do you think of TEVEZ huh The guy looks like a fighter and i like his loyalty (that will go down well with the fans) and work rate cool With this team, the guy would score like 15-20 goals per season. Imagine Tevez and RVP shocked shocked shocked shocked

Also i doubt we will go for Eto (heard he is a trouble maker, we don't need that in our team tongue tongue but he looks up to Henry so there might be no problem, but i doubt he and Van Persie would get along if we went for him)

Gist from ANR is that we might also sell Senderos undecided That one won't be nice. Yes he has his silly moments, but the Boy is growing, and he is a fighter (he should just stop this kissing of team mates after they score crap grin grin) Apparently he is also the most intelligent member of the squad cool

By the way, do you think we should move Eboue to midfield and get another Rightback to pair up with Hoyte, cause Eboue is good going forward, but can't defend to save his life grin grin

Will look at other stuff later cool

Let me give you a chant that some Chelsea fans were making use of last season

"Who let the Drogs out!! hoo!! Hoo!! Hoo!!" (With the hoo mimicking the sound a monkey would make)

Now tell me if that is any better huh. The chant caused so much problems that Chelsea TV had to make an appeal on Fans not to sing the disgusting song.

Like i said; Chelsea fans have no right to castigate other supporters. Cause as history will have you know (that word history crops up again grin) Chelsea supporters were considered (and to a large extent still are) the most hateful set of fans in England.
