Oga Kay

read through this thread and see if i started anything or (intentionally) digressed from the topic at hand.

I maintained discussing on the issues Marlet raised, until the digression took a life of its own, due to "Unforseen Circumstances!!".

I know you might be pre empting my actions, but i wasn't going to respond back.

So be safe in the knowledge that things will stay as the topic requires (from me at least!!)

Although like i alluded to some days back, this might be in the offering;

http://football.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/0,,2089900,00.html

Like i said back then, Reo-Coker is not a transfer that will get my heart beating with joy, and i hope we don't go for him. We need a True Winger to give us width, some one in the Mold of Reyes, not another central Midfield player.

Cause if we buy Reo, Wenger will continue in his stupid habit of wanting to play Diaby from the wings to accomodate Reo in the middle of the park. And that will not work.

AC and Barca

AC Milan  that should not have been allowed to have participated in the CL if not for the Footie politics of their owner Berlisconi, please dear friend what/who have they invested in  Keeping Paolo Maldini alive  Getting Gattuso his daily dose of Heroin  Makling sure Seerdoff gets his regular supply of Steriods

Barca  didn't they lose out at the same stage to fellow Finalist Arsenal at the UCL this season, aren't they in the process of being pipped for the La Liga  What was the score again against Getafe in the Copa del Rey  Ronnie probably leaving, or was that Eto, or am i mistaken them for Rykkard  Barca that can't keep stopping their hard on for Thierry Henry a 29/30 year old Striker, who happens to play for whom

Real M  a team that bought Baptista (who we also got, thank heavens on loan) I mean they actually spent money on the guy  Real a team that still has Roberto Carlos and Raul (those guys have been playing for Madrid since i was born ) A team who might lose their coach at the end of the season (Who want the same Wenger and Cesc Fan who plays for whom ) A team that if they don't win the La Liga would have gone how maby years without winning a league title (with how many coaches ).

I am tired to even talk of the Scum and Chelski

Sorry guys last word

@ Somze,

that was my last post to you yesterday, where did i say "Newbie" or insult Software again huh or "Step on you" as you said huh as for "Rocking the Foo!!l" Brother i was not refering to you, Kitaun knows who i am talking about, and that was between us. I really have no problem with the Deluded word (just pointed it out). Afterall Akola was the one that asked you to stop using it, so refer your reply to him as well (or will you tell him offline wink)

Guy like i said, i have no problems with you, and i am at a loss why you feel i do (and it remains that way), it just came about over something i didn't agree with and i will address/sortout the issue(s) with the main folks that i feel contributed to getting it this far, and that will be outside Nairaland. so it won't be repeating itself here again on this thread (and any other Arsenal thread for that matter), AS MUCH AS I CAN, I WILL MAKE SURE OF THAT cool

@ Somze

Yes AC MIlan won their 7th title, but somze what investments have AC Milan had over the past 3 years. Who have they brought in that has really been good for them (execpt Ronaldo) Like i said AC Milan were even lucky to have competed in the UCL as many were angry that they only suffered a points reduction penalty, as they were implicated in the "Match fixing stuff".

They won the CL based on Experience and class, and no one will take those dues away from them.

Barca have won all you stated, but this year, they might not be winning anything. The players they have invested in have been; Eiður Guðjohnsen, Lillian Thuram and Zambrotta, yet i don't think either one of those players have really done much to justify their places (where Barca have suffered have been as a result of their loss to Old players like Eto and Messi during crunch periods of the season). And the end of the season might mean  a change of guard at the Nou Camp.

Real have won more CL than any one else, but Somze even with the Galacticos that they have had (no one else have gathered as much stars as Real) What major stuff have they won in 3 years, they haven't won the La Liga since 2003, the CL since 2002 the Copa del Rey since 1993

They have had 6 Managers in 3 years
shocked, and if they don't pip Barca to the title, that will mean 4 years since they won the La Liga. I say no more on them.

Scummy United, before this trophy, had last won the league in 2003, so Somze it took them 4 hard years before they could get it right, Granted in between that they won the FA Cup in 2004 and Milk Cup in 2006, but what we are talking about here is league. They haven't won the CL since 1999.

Now let me relate that to Arsenal, we won the league last in 2004 and won the FA Cup in 2005 in between that we have gotten to 2 finals, the Champ League, which we lost to Barca, and the Milk Cup this year which we lost to your team. So its not as Bad as you paint it to be, what you all are taking your cue from is the league position Arsenal have finished in for 2 seasons, which frankly is not good enough (no gunner would say other wise)

listen Somze no one is saying that Arsenal should not invest or buy players, and we are not competing in "who has the better record among each Club". Like i said to you once when you said "Arsenal was dead", If Arsenal are dead and can still move to a new Stadia, can still get to 2 finals, are still increasing their fan base, can still hold out from being taken over, can still balance their books, Have a young squad that despite lacking the finished product cannot be denied their "Brilliance!". Still finish among the top 4 teams (even if we are disgusted by the points gap between Us and the Scummies, but i ask you, what was the point gap between the Scum and Chelsea in 2005 when they finished 3rd and with no trophy).

We all as human beings are "Present Concious" which is cool as we live in the present. But i insist that everything starts on a clean slate in the next 2 months, and since you all feel i shouldn't say that Your seasons were not as good as you wanted (since silverware was captured) fair enough. But that also does not give you all the right to come here and feel Arsenal supporters should feel any less proud of OUR Club.

Like i asked Akola, if Chelsea supporters had to stay faithful to their club and wait for a league title for 50 years, will they now abondon it since they didn't win it this season, and if Chelsea do not win the league next year, will you now support another team huh

So basically Somze, bother yourself on how your club can consolidate on maintaining the standards they set for themselves, and let Gunners bother about getting back on track (which we will do, make no doubt about that!!) we have not won a trophy in 2 years, the rafters will not fall down, it didn't when it took 7 years between G Graham's League win to Wenger's first Prem win, and it won't start now.

We have noted your advice for us to invest and we thank you for the concern you have for us, (its good to know Chelsea fans have a big heart). Let next season role on and we will see how it pans out. We all maintain a policy of "NO EXCUSES!!"

Let me just put things in perspective here and address each person one by one

@ Akola

As much as you try to act as if you are not taking sides, you always have this way of using divide and rule tactics. Now granted you said something to Somze when he used the word deluded (i will address that issue with him later), and you cautioned Software just earlier, yet you let that "Cretin" roam free and use insults. He comes out to accept that he is using another name on the board (which is his perogative) yet you say nothing (I wonder if it was either i or any other oldie that did that, what your response would be if you found out).

Baba K, call a Spade a spade!!

@ Somze

I read somewhere else that you said we had settled, yet you go ahead and use words like deluded huh, when in my reply to you i only addressed issues, and didn't make any other comments!! Now doesn't that smack of hypocracy huh Its not compulsory that you agree with my analysis, i would have looked at you points and given my own answers to them (as we have done before).

You say we are trying to bully you and that i was running you down (i still insist i wasn't doing any such thing, only trying to point out what i thought was wrong in 3 pages of "You know what", wink maybe you felt i was being harsh in my manner, but whats done is done!! It is what it is!!) well i say practice what you preach Bro. If you accuse me of being rude, yet you use words like "Deluded" after i address issues, then i guess thats the way you want it to be; and thats fine with me (will reply your points after this).

@ Kitaun

Bro lets just squash this, and let it be. Somethings are better left for another time as it could go on and on, even though i would really love to continue and "Rock that Fool!!" to sleep, i won't really achieve much besides me getting distracted from other stuff

@ Muks and other Gonners

I wouldn't normally do this and i guess by doing so i am going to set a high standard for myself that i will have to live by.

What i have to say is, granted we all like to have fun once in a while on each thread, as no one here has the right to control the other, but it seems that we bring in stuff that doesn't need to be discussed into some places. For example the Picture stuff, i remember a thread on the Sports section was created to help you all see each others pictures, so why bring that stuff here (and for 3 DAMN pages) I really have no business with how other NL member want their threads to look like, but as much as possible, lets keep our thread about business (correcting each other when anyone of us goes of track as we are not above mistakes)

Leave personal friendships outside NL out of this thread or any other Arsenal thread. We can not help other supporters coming here to make ignorant comments (its a free world), thats just part and parcel of this forum, but i will say we try and stop this idea of being silly with them here (especially when it goes beyond 1 page), we can take it to our YIMs (after all i discuss sports stuff with other NL members that support other teams on Messenger and over the phone, which we don't bring to NL as it gives us a chance to be honest and remove all the Bravado stuff we all try and put up about our teams here)
.
I believe we should set a standard for ourselves on our threads, and i intend to uphold that. I believe every other NL Gunner should do the same cool

Yup it was Ancellotti that said so;

"But my biggest mistake was not realising Thierry Henry could become a great central striker while we were at Juventus."

http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=467887&CPID=5&clid=120&lid=&title=Ancelotti+slams+Gerrard

4play, since all you do right now is to use your time to look at my mistakes, then guess thats cool (who is fixated on whom) at least someone said so, and my mistake in feeling it was Capello rather than Ancellotti was just that. A MISTAKE!! (Same as my feeling it was Ince rather than Viv Anderson who left London to go up north was a mistake which i rightfully acknowledged, but had nothing to do with my accolades on Black British players, as i praised them both following my comments on Mickey Thomas).

Has nothing to do with my post in reply to Chidi, but yet again instead of analysing stuff, you spend half your time looking out for my mistakes (Since you make none). What did Jose refer that to be "Voyeurism!!" I have told you and i will say it once again "Leviticus 18:6".

Akola there you go again.

My comments were in reply to I-Man. (what is wrong with you people)
Was i saying that we are all happy with what is going on at Arsenal huh NO!! What i was pointing out is the fact that no team (even the scummies with their 9th Title) could really be satisfied with their season. Everyone underachieved (did Jose honestly want the FA or Carling cups on his resume this season; NO. Did Benitez feel good with himself that Liverpool got to the CL Final and lost on the night, NO)

So Akola if it took Chelsea 50 years to win the League again and the supporters stayed faithful, what makes Arsenals case any different, after all it took 6/7 years between G Grahams' League Title win in the Old English 1st Division, (before it became the Prem), for Arsene to deliver 1 of his 3 Prem titles after taking over the club in 1996.

So my point is, there is a thin line between success and failure, this was shown in Liverpool winning on Pens in your semis, and other incidents(which your coach rightly or wrongly pointed to as well, Akola)

Anyway its all good. seems we all should just keep quiet since we didn't win any trophy, (God forbid Didoflex talks about Tottenham grin) next season is around the corner. Same "No Excuse" Policy will apply.

Akola like i told wormy once; Lets see in 4 years time where both Arsenal and Chelsea will be in the Football standings, By the grace of God, we might still be in contact to make a review cool

What a laugh cheesy cheesy

Mancs go with out the Prem for 3 seasons and no one died, (and please do not say FA Cup and Carling (Milk) Cup).

Arsenal this season, have a good record against the top teams, yet we are not handling ourselves. With the so called "underachieving" Team we still finished 4th about teams with more experienced squads.

You mention Liverpool having their sights on the UCL. Yet you say "No Excuses!!" I can't figure how your law works for you when you want it, then you move the goal post when it doesn't suit your arguement.

This little team got to the Final of the Milk cup, (beating teams like Liverpool on the way. or was their eyes on the UCL at that stage as well huh) out playing the Elders of Chelsea for most of the game, (eventually losing to their experienced counterparts).

The same team got to the Final of the CL the year before, losing to a good Barca side on the night (but beating teams like Juve and Real on the way). Got to the Semis of the Milk cup that year as well, losing out to Wigan.

So once again i say, If Arsenal who everyone is claiming to be going down, Can still be up in there mixing it up (beating the so called Up and coming Spurs team silly this season in 2 comps, guess their eyes were on UEFA). Then i would rather keep faith in my team to eventually get things right.

The scum got it right and won the Prem (Kudos to you all) but were beaten well in the semis of the CL, and lost out to Chelsea at the FA Cup Finals (lets not talk of losing their last game to the Hammers, who pre that game, scummy fanbs always said had beaten Arsenal home and away. Guess they showed you guys that Lightening can strike twice)

The Russians with all the money at their disposal, couldn't win the league, lost out to the Pool once again in the CL, Pipped the Gunners and scum to both the FA and Carling Cups. Oh well i guess for all the Money they spent, Carling and FA cups are better than none. Jose should win thoses cups again next season and make RA happy grin.

Liverpool, Hmmm!? Got knocked out by Arsenal from both the FA and Milk Cup, Lost the UCL to Milan and pipped Arsenal to third through a better goal difference ratio. Gee!! What wouldn't i give to be a pool supporter undecided

Basically MR I-Man (apart from the Scum winning the Prem, which if you want to be honest with yourself, 50% poercent of the Scummies didn't feel would be possible this season, seeing the squad you guys had at the begining of the season and following the sale of Ruud at the begining) No team performed as expected.

Yes Fergie is happy he won a 9th Prem title, but he was gutted he couldn't add a UCL or FA cup title to make it that more special. Jose might feel smug that he won the FA and Carling (more as a result of the Opposition his team played (Arsenal and Manscum) than the actual winning of 2 cups he doesn't see much good about). But can he honestly say he was happy losing the Prem or losing out to the Pool (and Benitez in particular) for a second time in the UCL. Do i even bother about discussing the Underachieving Liverpool  undecided

Listen I-Man (since thats how you want to be refered too) Worry less about Arsenal, as you have pointed out that we won't achieve anything anywhere in the near future. So concentrate on how your team will wrap up all the trophies next year (Thank God you once acjknowledged that you didn't feel you would win the UCL, which happended to be the case, but that was way back when, when you were good old 4play. Now you are I-Man, so guess your reasoning must change with your name. Sort of like Puff Daddy to P-Diddy).

True Gunners feel that Arsenal will eventually come good, thoughts of others (most especially a born and bred scummy (so you claim)) don't really count. We all know what needs to be done, and fans have let their feeling be known through various forums, all we have to do now is watch and believe in our gaffer to deliver (he has done it before, and by jove he will do it again) afterall Mr I-MAN, he is ultimately the one employed to run the club and will take the success or failure that comes with his approach.

Arsenal have always had success before Wenger came, and even when Wenger decides to call it a day, we will still be a club to reckown with. (after all Deschamp resigned after leading Juve back up to the Serie A, and Houliier resigned after winning the French league with Lyon, so no coach is dispensible, and bigger than the club he works for)

Arsenal will not lose fans (except Nigerians grin grin) becuase of Wenger. Thats not how football works. Real Madrid have not won anything for a long time, but apart from Manchester United, they have the second highest football fanbase. (some would even argue that their fanbase surpasses the Scum).

The young players will not do such a thing, as they know that its because of Wengers trust in them that they are being given the platform to display their talents (maybe at the expense to other sections). Remember Chidi, Vieira was a lad when Wenger brought him in and turned him into a star, Thierry got his break from Arsene, first at Monaco, and when he didn't succeed at Juve, (which till this Day, Capello says is one of his major regrets in not recognising the kind of player Henry would turn out to be) gave him another chance at Arsenal to be the player we know today. The same can be said of Kanu, who many thought was finished, but look how he shined in England.

Just imagine the kind of players Cecs and Diaby will end up being shocked shocked

Well as you said, Wenger is proud and stubborn, but i guess even he knows the Balance of his team is not right. So i am sure he will get in someone (if its someone we would all love to see, remains to be the big question undecided)

Anyway Chidi, hope you return home, when we get back to winning ways grin grin

@ Gunners

Well nothing much going on in terms of transfer stuff, except the normal speculations over whose going and whose staying!! (Nothing concrete on whose comning cry)

But what do you guys feel about Reo-Coker of West Ham, News is that he has handed in a request to be released from his team. Well i know Wenger was once considering getting him in to play in midfield and act in the Vieira mode, being our lynchpin to push our team forward, however that deal fell through due to the We will/We won't deal over Ashley Cole and Billy Gallas which took like forever to sort out.

Now he is apparently free, do we go in for him huh His season was nothing to write home about, as i feel he was one of the key players that let the Hammers down tongue (Thank God for Carlos "The Jackal" Tevez). Also we have Abou Diaby who can readily step up to play the Vieira role, if only the Boss would stop the silly habit of playing him from the wings or in attack angry

The dominant question is, will Reo-Coker fit into our midfield (i know Berti is also not as technical as the other players, but he does a job) as he is not really as technical as the rest in terms of his footie skills, being a more traditional midfield player in the Steven Gerrard mode.

What do you all think huh

Also heard Mart Poom has been sold to Watford (well someone had to leave with the signing of a new keeper) Will Almunia also be joining him out undecided Not sure Wenger will want him to go, as we need 3 keepers. Besides the other guy is young, so i feel he should act as an understudy to the others, getting his run outs in the Carling cup games.

Rumour has it we are also in for Fernando Torres huh really don't know about that, i believe he will end up being another Reyes and not adapt to playing in "Ever Sunny Engurland!? grin grin". Besides i would rather we go for Obagoal, or as someone mentioned Benni Marcarty!! (sadly i don't see Tevez coming here cry cry) They have proven their ability to play here, and would jump at the chance to play in the Champs League. They are both quick thinking strikers, that can hold their own and have proven their ability to get stuck in where it hurts. Thats my opinion though.

Will we or won't we go for Ribery huh that is the big summer question. Frankly i would go for Ryan Babel as he has everything that Ribery has, except he comes across as a lazy Bleep sometimes (can we all say REO-COKER!!) But i guess a Big name signing like Ribery will keep the punters happy. well apparently he says he will decide on his future soonest (he has been saying that for the past 2 years tongue tongue Why are footballers always like that grin)

Finally. Why won't these "Thierry to Barca" stories ever stop tongue tongue If TH14 wants to go, he should just be gone and be done with it, i know he has said it over and over again that he won't leave (Which he changed to; as long as Wenger is coach huh) The whole stuff is sickening tongue tongue

However through out all this, one thing has always remained constant "Your stupidity". You act as if you want to contribute stuff to any forum, but underneath your contributions, all you do is put forward sly insults (sadly sometimes like father like son cry cry)  (yet Somze accuses me of being biased and calling folks names huh).

@ Somze

Bro no where in my post did i call you any name, i only commented on your need to turn this thread into a "SHOW ME YOUR PICS" Forum, i believe you will not deny that, but since your only defence is to point out the fact that Muki and Nne were also involved!? Then i guess thats ok then. As for I-man (4play or whatever he chooses to call himself when ever he gets the urge!!) Believe me Somze, you are new here, or else you  would have known that there is no love lost between i and my estranged son.

He can handle himself and gives as good as he gets (i wouldn't expect nothing less from my son cool, (even though he is trully a SCUMMY embarassed tongue tongue) So no worries about him.)

As for SOFTWARE huh I have no comments, I have spoken my mind (and the mind of 90% of the members of this board, (even Chelskites) so i leave his issue to him and his psychiatrist lipsrsealed

As for Muks and Nne, well i will leave that as an in-house matter (i never pointed to your conversation(s) with Debo, cause it didn't degenerate into the issues of pictures (if i am not mistaken!?) which was fine with me)

So Mr. Somze, i repeat, i wasn't calling you any names. Its just annoying that in 3 pages all i could gather was your analysis of pics with Chics huh which i pointed out

If you see that as an insult, well thats just too bad undecided

@ Back to the topic

Gooners cool just found out from reading Arseblogger that this is 18th Anniversary of Mickey Thomas's goal against the POOL, that clinched G Graham's first league title as Arsenal's coach in 1989.

Well it was significant for me,as this was the first time i started my long quest as an Arsenal supporter. And it was fun for us back then that someone of Colour scored that goal and gave everyone (except the Pool fans) joy cool. Yes the Pool had Johnny Barnesy, but for most of us back then, Arsenal with Mickey and Rocky were the team (later with Wrighty and Kevin Campbell). Yes we all loved Incey (who ironically enough was also a Gunner) in the Scummy team, for his leadership qualities (He always refered to himself as the Guv'nor cool) but back then there weren't really that many teams that had Black players. usually teams in London borough had a sprinkling of 1 or 2 a' la Chelsea, West Ham, Wimbeldon and Co. But Arsenal was one of the teams many Ethinic Minority folks took to (apart from the Paks and Asians that tended to support teams up north like the Scum and Liverpool). So for helping me cement my support as a Gooner!! Here's cheers to Mickey T (and the clip of the goal, which to be fair, was the major highlight of a game, that was in truth boring and drab)

Now let me take some time to say this and really i mean no offense to anyone as this is a free board and so any stupid pillock can come on and spew as much rubbish as his time can afford him.

Lets start with this clown called "Software"; Now dude, as much as we are meant to tolerate each other on this thread, i really must admit that your stupidity pushes the limit. Most times you really have nothing to say, yet you feel the need to post stuff huh Fair enough its a free world which makes room for even the desolute and imbeciles, but that doesn't mean we must let madness be the norm tongue

@ Somze,

well its seems you are getting a hard on playing your "let me see your pictures" with the ladies on this board. Guy if you want to self-service off, do so at your own time and spare us all your innate desire to get chics from Nairaland to send you their pictures, all in the name of using sports as a bait. that Bro is disgraceful and down right embarrashing embarassed.

@ I-Man (4play)

I see your time at ICU hasn't really changed you one bit. Like i always tell you, you are a key member of this forum, but your need to be stupid all the time is so awful. I have no problems with any of your analysis, (a few of them i agree with, even if i know they are covered with a hint of bias) I could give mine on your scummy team; In that we can agree to disagree that we both hate/loathe each others teams. (even if Arsenal win a trophy, i would never expect you to give a positive spin on it, so we both know where we are coming from). Anyway thats how you are, and i doubt you will ever change.

@ Gooners

I know sometimes we need to relax and relate with all the muppets, but when it degenerates into turning our thread into a "Comedy Central Arena", that doesn't abode well. If we all want a laugh, please just go to any of the Chelsea threads and have as much fun as possible.

@ Marlet01

Like i sad (which you also highligted), the only reason we will need a CB is due to the ACN which will take Mofo and Kolomental away for like a month, but i still feel Senderos is good, who needs to step up is Gallas. Senderos is good in the Air (the only defender we have right now that can deal with crosses) and yes he might be clumsy at some times, but he is quite intelligent and shows a maturity beyond his age.

Here is a little info on the guy, from Wikipedia,

"Senderos had an extended run in the first team when Sol Campbell was unavailable due to injury in 2005, and after Campbell's return from injury, retained his place on the first team. Senderos started the 2005 FA Cup final against Manchester United; Arsenal eventually won the game on penalties.

A further series of injuries to Sol Campbell meant Senderos was able to forge a defensive partnership with Kolo Touré in the 2005–06 season. Senderos had an unimpressive start to the season, which included a nervous and error-strewn performance against London rivals and eventual league champions Chelsea, especially in one-on-one situations against Chelsea's Ivorian forward Didier Drogba. However, Senderos recovered to become a major force in the Arsenal's Champions League run which included a record-breaking run of ten clean sheets. He was injured however, for the final in Paris, which Arsenal lost 2–1 to FC Barcelona."

Notice the highlighted part. Yes drogs finds some luck against the guy (but then again Drogs finds luck against 90 percent of the Worlds defenders, which tells more of the class of Drogba, rather than the lack of Class of the defenders in question. I mean wasn't the famed Vidic and Ferdinand in the line up when Drogs scored that goal to give Chelsea the FA CUP huh)

I wouldn't mind a CB, but not at the expense of a World class Striker or Winger, I want the Arsenal that can hold out a game and draw if needs be, but more importantly i would love an Arsenal who; when ever they get the ball, make the defence of the opposition team gets scared sh@tless cause they know they will concede to our strikers. That is the Arsenal team i grew to know and love when Wenger came to save us from the Pragmatic boring Arsenal as we experienced under G Graham tongue Won titles but were a bleeping bore to watch tongue tongue

We are both saying the same thing, but not in the same priority/list of priorities.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Where Did Liverpool Go Wrong? by loyika(m): 4:33pm On May 25, 2007
The problem with the Pool wasn't the team, the problem was with Benitez; He Bottled it!! simple and short tongue

He was more concerned in winning the game in style (without the necessary players to execute that) rather than beating Milan, the way Liverpool know how.

1, Why leave Crouch on the Bench, when he would have scared the Hell out of the Milan Defence and made them make mistakes, thereby leaving room for Kuyt to cause the damage huh

2, Playing Xabi Alonso was wrong, he should also not have removed Mascherano, that was a big mistake. The Argie had kept the Brazilian quiet all game, but as soon as he left what happens, Kaka sent through a pass to Old man Inzagi, who used all his experience to beat Reina.

3, Why the Bloody hell does he always play Zenden, the guy is crap (which is also strange, cause low and behold, who does he get rid off post game huh Yup!! Bolo Zenden huh That is the most stupid decision Benitez ever made)

4, Why play Gerrard as a secoond striker huh it was like a square peg in a round hole. I mean we spent half the game watching Kuyt (a Striker) coming to the midfield to send crosses/passes to Gerrard (an Attacking Midfielder), did that make sense huh

Liverpool had Milan in their sights and could/should have won that game by 2 clear goals, instead they concede a silly foul, which leads to a silly goal, and then allow Inzagi add insult to injury and hit them with a sucker punch. They have missed Garcia all season, his craftiness could have worked instead of Zenden's pedestral playing.

How do you lose a game (playing the Arsenal / Man United way), when you kill off 2 of Milans lynchpins in Gattuso and Kaka, and dominate possesion for that long, and only manage to react when you go down 2 goals to score a consolation goal (funnily enough playing the Liverpool way).

GO FIGURE undecided

First of all, Senderos was a key part of the defence that got us to the CL finals, with a record clean sheet haul, so that point is null and void.

Secondly, Gallas should just shut it and concentrate on doing his job and save his opinions to himself (who was guilty of Essien's goal at the Emirates huh you got it!! Billy Gallas tongue Case of Pot calling the Kettle black) tongue tongue

Thridly, Milan winning the CL was as a result of Benitez crappy selection and Tactics. Does anyone actually feel Milan would survive in the humdrum known as the EPL huh

Listen!! Yes we need to shore up on the defence, but Attack has been our main let down, if we could just convert half of the chances we create, then we would have no problems.

Do you all remember the game against Boro where we went down by 3 goals to 1 and still came back to win 5-3 or the Spurs rollacoaster ride of a game. The Arsenal of yore (Post G Graham) didn't bother alot about defence, cause we knew we could score goals and when you win a game by 3 to 4 goals, you didn't really bother if you let in 2 goals.

The problem is when you can't convert chances (like 2 bloody pens in the FA Cup game against Bolton, then you run the risk of conceding, like we did to take the game to extra time)

Yes we need another Centre back, but (that is only because Kolomental and Mofo are going to be missing in January when the ACN comes along) I would rather have us sign a striker in the Mold of Carlos "The Jackal" Tevez or Obagoal, and a Winger in the shape of Ribery or Ryan Babel, than sign a defender.

Our defenders are not that Bad, most of our conceded goals have come through Crazy Jens inability to find his Pre WC form again (He is a Legend, but he cost us some games with his mistakes and Bad decisions)

We need to get back to the Arsenal that could always score a goal, at any stage of the game, rather than the Present Arsenal that wait till the 90th minute to finish of the Scum at the Emirates. And a Fit RVP, TH14, Bendter, Adebayor, Walcott (if Wenger plays him in his prefered role, rather than on the bloody wings) goal getting Rosicky, and Cesc, and Shot improving Hleb, diaby and Eboue. With 1 or 2 additions should be able to do the trick.

Like i said, if we converted like half of the "CLEAR CUT" chances we create, we would be up there with anyone. We would be able to kill off smaller teams in the bottom half of the table, not dominate games possesion wise, then lose out to silly teams like Sheff United, Boro and the Evertons of this world (did i forget to mention the bloody Hammers tongue)

"Half-time at Arsenal

Robert Peston 23 May 07, 05:00 PM

I have in the past made the appropriate conflict-of-interest disclosure: I am a lifelong Arsenal supporter. But what follows, I hope, will not be tainted by the emotional investment I’ve made in the club over many years.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been talking to Arsenal investors, former investors and executives to obtain a sense of what’s likely to happen at the historic club in the aftermath of the US billionaire Stan Kroenke buying a 12.2 per cent stake and David Dein resigning from the board.

Here is what I’ve learned:

1) According to sources at ITV, David Dein was intimately involved in ITV’s sale for £42m of a 9.99 per cent stake in Arsenal to Kroenke.

2) The same sources say that at one stage that deal was conditional on Dein also selling his 14.4 per cent holding to Kroenke, though that condition was ultimately dropped.

3) It’s unclear whether Dein’s role in the ITV sale prompted the “irreconcilable differences” between him and fellow Arsenal directors which led him to leave the Arsenal board in April.

4) The close relationship between Dein and fellow Arsenal director, Danny Fiszman, ended some while ago, before the recent turbulence – but the cause of the original estrangement is a mystery.

5) The widely held belief that the development of Arsenal’s new stadium has put it into a financial straitjacket appears to be wrong – following a £260m refinancing of the stadium-related debt last July, which significantly reduced interest costs, net cash-flows have been enhanced and the club’s financial muscle is now probably greater than it’s ever been (or at least since the glory days of the 1930s, when star players worked for peanuts rather than gold bricks).

6) Annual turnover is running at around £170m excluding property sales, £200m including a contribution from the residential development at the redundant Highbury stadium, and a bit more if catering sales are imputed from profits shared with outside catering firms – which represents a tripling of turnover over seven years and means the club is narrowing the gap with Manchester United.

7) Arsenal’s expenditure on players (transfers and wages) is approximately 91 per cent of Manchester United’s.

cool However the Arsenal board does not believe that even a top-flight club can combine on-the-field success over the long term with a highly-leveraged financial structure of the sort the Glazers put in place at Manchester United or even with the payment of dividends to shareholders.

9) Or to put it another way, the Arsenal board view the club almost as a mutual or a co-op, and they feel their primary responsibility is to pass it to the next generation of directors, shareholders and supporters in robust shape – and it is an article of faith for the board that net cash flows should always be positive in any given year, unless the club is making an investment that will significantly increase long-term cash flows.

10) That explains their wariness about selling out to Kroenke.

11) The absence of a dividend on the shares for many years, and the refusal of the directors to contemplate paying a dividend, means that it would be irrational for Dein to retain his 14.4 per cent stake – how can he simply sit on an asset worth perhaps £90m which is yielding zilch for him (and, note too, that he is no longer drawing salary or bonus from Arsenal which in 2006 was £500,000)?

What do I make of all this? First that Dein will probably sell his stake sooner rather than later. Second if Kroenke is genuinely committed to buying Arsenal, he will find it immensely difficult, since the board control roughly half the stock and seem committed to their way of doing things.

But then there is a Wenger factor. Everyone I’ve spoken to says that the sine qua non of future footballing and financial success is that the Arsenal manager stays at the club. Which is why there is widespread anxiety that his contract ends at the end of the next season.

It’s probably not sinister that he hasn’t signed a new contract yet. Arsenal’s directors are confident that they are providing him with the wherewithal to do the job and that his decision to stay or go will ultimately depend on how his team perform for him next season. Which isn’t altogether reassuring…"

http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/thereporters/robertpeston/2007/05/halftime_at_arsenal.html

Hmmm! My points exactly!! Like i said earlier;

1, A meeting with Stan K is just normal as he is now a major shareholder, so not much should be read into it.

2, Arsenal are stable financially, and do not need a takeover, a major financial investment will be welcomed, but taking over a club basically for business motives is not the way to go. And i hope it remains that way.

3, As i eluded to earlier, everything depends on the Wenger factor. So the Gaffer knows much is on his shoulders (this unfortunately gives him too much power at the club, which might be a bad thing tongue But how lucky can he get to negotiate the best ever contract package of his life next year grin)

All in all, this should be a very eventful summer. Stan K has much to prove to the Board and supporters of his intentions. He cannot afford a forced takeover, so he has to be diplomatic in his approach of convincing all and sundry, that he has good intentions as it relates to Arsenal FC. If he can't do that, he should sell his shares and "BUGGER OFF!!"

@ Wormy

The guy buying the club doesn't mean he knows Sweet F.A. about this club, its a business venture for him, pure and simple!! And right now we can afford to snob that kind of investment. (maybe in the future we will need to sell, but we are ok right now, like i earlier eluded to)

This is what the major share holder said earlier on about the situation, and the situation/bottomline hasn't changed!!

http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=463970&CPID=8&clid=3&lid=3&title=Fiszman+denies+takeover+talk&channel=&

ARSENAL WILL NOT BE SOLD!! (For now at least)

Like i said, a lot depends on Wenger and the team performance on the pitch next season.

The meeting with Stan K is just normal, afterall he has a major stake in shares, so its normal to meet him and let him air his mind/thoughts on the club, but don't hold your breathe on any BREAKING NEWS!! Now that would be a shocker to the system!!

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (Old) by loyika(m): 2:00pm On May 22, 2007
Ain't going to happen

Everything now depends on Wenger and his team, If next season is good and some silverware comes in, Arsenal will not be sold (at least not in the near future) Stan the Man will just get used to being a shareholder (might even count his losses and sell his shares). However if we have another season like this one, then the Board will sell and bail with their money!! Simple!!

Right now, Arsenal does not really need any major investment as a club, the books are balanced and money has been projected to cover our debts from the stadia move (as long as the team perform and Punters show up for games) next seasons tickets have been sold out, International friendlies have been fixed for the Grove, TV revenues will still rise as the Prem grows bigger (did anyone cop the Time mag of a month ago, discussing the Growth and influence of the Prem!! Quite insightful reading) So as a club, Arsenal are financially stable and can survive without any major investment (Yes investments will definately help, but we can survive on what we already have on ground).

Like Fizman said; Kroenke should tell us all how he intends to finance his purchase (he will definately have to borrow to buy) and how will he intend to get back his money.

Bottomline is, the Yank does not know anything about thios club, he isn't a fan, like RA is, he knows nothing about the game and the club's history (and shouldn't pretend as if he does) basically this is just a business venture for him, just another franchise to add to his portfolio of sports clubs and frankly he can Bleep OFF for all we care!! If it was someone that at least looked like he had an idea of what football (or soccer as the Yanks call it) was all about, then fair enough, what we don't want is a self-servicer that just wants to boast to his pals that he owns a Footie team.

Hill Woods will meet him, but i am sure its just for formality sake, nothing will change unless Stan comes clean with his intentions. And besides Wenger is not going anywhere, he has it in his head that he has to prove to everyone that the belief in this team is justifiable and he won't want to leave Arsenal as a loser.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/tm_headline=trust-me-and-i-will-deliver--%26method=full%26objectid=19153897%26siteid=89520-name_page.html

Secondly, he knows he won't be as powerful as this at any other club, being given the freedom he enjoys at Arsenal, so despite his displeasure at Dein's removal, he will just bite his tongue and get on with his job, as he sees himself as the "Messiah" to take Arsenal to the Promised land. Will that happen huh, we all wait to see undecided.
