theamerican: Lmao! Ungrateful hypocrites all over the place. Sometimes, no matter how much you try to explain a concept, some people won't just get it. I'll stop trying.
See them talking about saving $100k-200k to move back to Nigeria in the same country where they said it's impossible to save any money due to tax, bills, debts, etc.
I'm glad I was able to leave at a young age
You can fool yourselves by talking up Nigeria like it's flowing with milk and honey over there, lmao. Is it not the same Nigeria?
Sit down there and listen to stories of failed people, continue reading things online about losers and keep deceiving yourself with the Idea that everyone is suffering here lol. Your ignorance will only increase.
I shake my head when I think of the barbers, hairdressers, truck drivers, welders, auto-mechanics, plumbers, etc. in Nigeria and how underrated/undervalued they are.
As I am typing this comment, I just thought to myself... I can conveniently walk into a car dealership this weekend and walk out with a brand new 2018 Honda Accord if I wanted to and I'm just an average person with a nice credit score and a good job. I'm only having that opportunity because I'm here.
Oh, and guess what? I tried the Uber/Lyft thing last weekend lol. I made $432 driving Thur-Sat, evenings only. Not bad for a rookie, is it? I spent about $30 on gas, though. I'm already fighting the temptation to make another $400+ this weekend.
I'm glad things are working out for me beyond my expectations. Wherever you are, if things are genuinely working out for you how you want, awesome!
EDIT
Just checked the exact figures, it wasn't 432. It's 246 on Lyft and $201 on Uber making $447. Nobody said that you cannot save up enough money. I mean you could if you wanted to be picking up another job but you also have to let go certain things. What most people are trying to point out is that Most Money Made in America stays in America. That’s is how most advance society are designed. I wasn’t talking about saving up $100,000. I mean that would be impossible by simply working a regular job. I was talking about taking out a $100,000 Business line of credit from my bank in exchange for a lien on my Business. |

Godson201333: Ostensibly it is an economic system built on capitalism, but corruption is an overriding factor. According to the country’s National Bureau of Statistics, Nigerians on average pay six bribes per year to public officials. That amounted to $4.6 billion in 2016, the equivalent of 39 percent of the country’s federal and state budgets for education.
Nigerians rarely report bribery solicitations and payments as they have little faith in the ability or willingness of the authorities to crack down on bribery. It is a systemic problem and part and parcel to how the economy works.
I understand that you are very patriotic Nigeria but let’s call a spade a spade Okay ! Okay, I’m done... I’m already tired of the back and forth... Fyi I’ m an American Citizen but I love Nigeria as well. |

Godson201333: Forms of Economy Institutionally
Nigeria is a Capitalist economy with free market. It is either you get rich or you die trying. In this kinda of society, Its citizen get less or almost no attention and required support from its government.Such system can also be considered an individualistic System.Example is the united state of America or many of these African countries.
Socio-Economy Government
Germany,France,Finland,Sweden and many other developed western Europe practise what is called,Collectivistic. Its citizen tend to enjoy many benefits ranging from Gender equality, free Education, free Health care,High infrastructure,Responsible government providing for its citizens and you tend not to huzzle too much before you get the taste of quality of life.
In Western Europe its difficult to become a millionaire because even your million will be taxed.Income taxes are way so high.
In countries like Nigeria or America, If you channel your energy towards money and you strive strategically towards goal,It might be easy for you to become a millionaire.
So classifying peoples Income Class could be either you are super rich ,middle class or extremely poor(Lowest Class). In Nigeria we only have people that are either rich or poor with little percentage of middle class. In western Europe nobody is poor..(Welfare for all).
Now what is the definition of poverty,This simply means that many people lack Basic Amenities and the extremely poor people live below 1$ per day.
Basic Amenities: Stable electricity,Equality,Functioning Legal system,Standard Education, Infrastructure, Free Health care or sound one at least,Security,Access to subsidised public transport.
I think if Nigerian government can provide its citizen all of the above mentioned points, then we all are gonna stay back home.
Argument Between life in Nigeria and any western countries.
Only a stupid person will come up with the assumption that he or she travelled out of Nigeria because there is no money in Nigeria.See my Fellow Brethren,The money Otedola or his likes are having out there is never gonna be easy to get, in Countries like Usa, Uk or Germany etc Unless you engage yourself in Illegal activities.I hate it when Nigerians tell me that they emigrated from the country because no money. What do u mean by no money when you can easily do Yahoo, drugs, participate in Corruption or other illegal activities.Even if you want to climb through legit means in Nigeria still its easier cos you can easily build a small kiosk and start business but at Silicon Valley its either you have inherited some bunch of Dollars or you able to convince those Ventured Capitalist.
Now,Those that makes sense more are the one that are so smart and were able to detect the fault in the country called Nigeria and they left legally. The fault means no Basics Amenities, Irresponsible government. These ones tend to complain less and appreciate white Man land,WHY ?? They got no worries about those Bills. They got so much patience to further education and build a new life...(Advantage to you more,if you still got good age and not 60 yrs before detecting error)
The Reason why many Nigerians in Diaspora bad mouth a White Man land is this….They never thought that they are gonna make money and pay necessary bills,They thought that once that pay check drops its over.Once you do not mix the concept of migration up and you are able to define your purpose of leaving your country, I think you are good to go.
Those that belong to becoming Otedola abroad always end up selling drugs, involving in criminal activities and las las incarcerated.Very easy now to get track down and put behind bars cos of technological Advancement. If you wanna migrate for a good life,I wish you good luck and plan well.If you wanna get rich quick also,Think twice about it.
PS: I live in Germany and have been to so many countries and can easily internally analyse many of them for ya.
No Place like home though..... If you think that Nigeria is a Capitalist Economy then you are very wrong. Maybe you need to update your knowledge on the definition of a Capitalist Economy. Right now, you don’t have an idea what you’re talking about. |

MackyNaija: Re: Is life abroad worth the stress and hype?? YES
Why?
Answer 1 - "An average Nigerian" in the US can make a lot of money he/she would never have dreamt of owning except seeing it in banking halls in Nigeria.
Answer 2 - You can find a job in the US until you choose to retire, In Nigeria you are at the mercy of most employers.
Can you show proof that your uncles and aunties are not doing fine?? Forget all the crocodile tears they shed.
Everyone has their own way of quantifying success... Some might just need sanity, no police harassment, good infrastructure, a ray of hope and a future for their children and children's children, and not a huge house + Benz s550 + BMW 8Series + $100k account balance.
If you were "an average Nigerian" look back at your friends you left back in Nigeria 6 years ago and tell us how they are faring.
I am abroad, forget the hype, gimme more stress and I would rather stay here! I think success is subjective. Each and everyone of us have our own unique definition of success. I have been here for 6 years but I already acquired a U.S. Passport that alone to me is a success but for someone else they might have a different opinion. Like I said before, I’m already working towards raising some Venture Capital. Once I acquire sufficient Capital, I will relocate to Nigeria and would visit the United States on a temporary basis from time to time. |

Nig4Greatness: ......
Very true, you earn and spend,a typical capitalist country, only way to breakthrough in such a society is to beat them to their own game. @bolded, $200k would be more like it except you already have your presence on ground back home.wish you all the very best. As for me,even as an America citizen,I never left Nigeria.in and out as often as possible.just love the social activities, entertainment gigs and above all the "concept of powerplay"....(if you know, you know). Exactly, You have to beat them to their own gameThe American Society is designed in such a way to have you working until retirement that way the economy is sustained. When I look at my uncles & aunties that have spent 20 years to 30 years abroad without no visible investment, I really weep for them. No house both in Nigeria & Abroad plus No Substantial Money saved up both in Nigeria & Abroad for Emergencies. Today marked my 6 years in America {I came here on June 13th 2012}. I have already told myself that by the next 4 years when I will be 28 years old and should have achieved my aim, I will definitely checked out of the country. Then move back to Nigeria and start thinking about settling down with a wife and having kids. I would only come back to the United States for occasional visit. One thing I have noticed among Nigerians is once you cross the 10 year mark, it’s extremely difficult to move back to Nigeria. |

Nig4Greatness: .... Yeah I know Lucas99,more reason why legal mmigration is kinda getting difficult for Nigerians now. Honestly speaking, America has a way of getting you tied down into the system. We make a lot of money but at the same time we spend a lot of money so at the end of the day is extremely difficult to save a lot of money after all the bills are paid. As it stands now, the only thing holding me back here in the States is Funds. Once I raise a enough funds {$100,000 -$200,000} I’m on the next flight back to Nigeria even if I have to take a loan from the bank. I have already obtained a United States Passport so I can visit whenever I want. Even if my kids are born in Nigeria then automatically they also become U.S. Citizen since I, the father is a U.S. Citizen. Disclaimer: Please don’t leave America and relocate to Nigeria except you have obtained your U.S. Passport that way you have an option of going back if things don’t work out in Nigeria. Anything apart from what I said above will be suicidal and you will only have yourself to blame since I will not be held liable for dishing out advice on an open web forum. |

Nig4Greatness: ...
OK, Relocating abroad on any type of non-immigrant visas for the sake of getting a parole or do AOS cannot be termed legal immigration,if not we wont have any single one without residency. There's clear difference between travelling abroad and immigrating abroad legally, the latter has been abused and quoted wrongly. As i said earlier, the only legal immigration routes out of Nigeria as at today are through DV,family based and some kind of EB series. My opinion. Nigeria is no longer eligible for the Diversity Visa Lottery since 2 years ago or 3 years ago. We have exceeded the Maximum Quota allowed under the Diversity Visa Lottery. |

LagosismyHome: personally i hate greyhound , the only time i entered it smelt so much (might be different now) but yes i understand as a student it good to cut cost .
For me greyhound is for short journeys , maybe if my school was like 5 hours or less bus ride but anything longer than 5 hours on greyhound then i rather fly . If you are still going to TN , then really check the price of local flights from JFK or LGA, it might be $150 or so more expensive than busing , but it quicker and easier for long journeys . Long journey with bus can mean a lot of change change as well , making it stressful I prefer Megabus to Greyhound. Firstly, Prices are very cheap when you buy ahead of time i.e Charlotte to Newyork on Megabus costs only $10 versus $80+ on Greyhound Secondly, I love the Double Deck Buses used by Megabus I usually sit on top during long journey because the seats are very spacious & you can stretch you legs plus you can also use the WiFi Alternatively, you can take the train operated by Amtrak. Those are comfortable albeit very expensive. Personally for me if money is not a problem then take Amtrak train OR Buy a Plane ticket. If you are very tight on Budget then take Megabus to your preferred destination. |

LagosismyHome: Too lazy to type so taken from an old post ... prices might have changed . Time can be hard to predict but leave at least 1h30mins
Step 1: take the Airtrain from jfk terminal to Jamaica Station. Please listen for the anouncement "Station D: Jamaica Station."
Step 2: at Jamaica Station, purchase a $7 MetroCard from the MetroCard Vending Machine, and exit the Airtrain system into Jamaica Station. Five dollars will be deducted from the MetroCard, when exiting the Airtrain system. The remaining $2 will use for the subway.
Step 3: follow the direction signs to the New sub way. Upon entering the subway, take the Manhattan-bound (westbound) "E" express train (Blue Line on the map) from Sutphin Blvd-JFK/Jamaica Station to 42nd Street-Port Authority Bus Terminal.
Step 4: at the Port Authority Bus Terminal, exit the subway into the bus terminal. The greyhound ticket counter, is right next door to the subway entrance. The Directions are spot on but the Prices have increased The total Price will be $7.75 {$5 Airtrain Fare & $2.75 Subway Fare} The New York Subway System is very complex, so always make sure you have a map handy and don’t be too embarrassed to ask people for directions even though most people are always in a hurry in New York City. I got lost several times before I mastered the New York Subway System. |
