EducationOOU Debunks News Of Pulling Out Of ASUU Strike by luvility(op): 6:57pm On Dec 07, 2013
Following news by different media that the Olabisi Onabanjo University management has been sending messages to students to resume on Monday, December 9, 2013, Goldmyne hereby report that the news is false and should disregarded.
The messages are scam messages and the resumption is a figment of imagination of some mischief makers who are bent on misleading the general public. Following inquiries from different quarters, we put a call through to the university Acting Registrar, Mr Afolabi Ajayi who denied any knowledge of the text, saying the management NEVER met to discuss anything like that, it is FALSE and definitely not from them.
It will be recalled that the decision to go on strike by national leadership of ASUU was hatched in Olabisi Onabanjo University. OOU ASUU is the strongest of all state universities. We can also confirm authoritatively that ASUU OOU is strong and solid and from records, the union have succeeded in seeing to the logical
conclusion any national strike. Any inconvenience the earlier posted
information might have caused is hereby regretted.
The strike is still on strike, news of resumption should be disregarded.

EducationStrike: ASUU Distributes Food, Money To Members, OAU Resumes by luvility(op): 7:23am On Dec 05, 2013
Striking lecturers at the Ahmadu Bello University,
Zaria on Wednesday received relief materials,
including food and money to enable them to cushion
the effect of the ongoing industrial action.
The Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of
Universities of the institution, Dr. Mohammed Kabir-
Aliyu, who confirmed this to one of our
correspondents, said the offer would help the
beneficiaries to survive the hardship occasioned by
the non-payment of their salaries.
According to him, lecturers in the university have not
earned their salaries in the last four months.
Among items distributed to the lecturers were rice,
semovita, vegetable oil and cash ranging from N20,
000 to N50, 000.
Kabir-Aliyu said they were ready to call the Federal
Government’s bluff concerning the sack threat.
University teachers nationwide embarked on strike
on July 1 to force the Federal Government to honour
an agreement it had with them since 2009.
The Supervisory Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike,
had last Thursday threatened the striking lecturers to
return to work on or before December 4 or face
dismissal.
However, the resumption deadline was on Tuesday
extended to December 9 to enable the striking
teachers to honour Prof. Festus Iyayi, who died on his
way to attend ASUU NEC meeting in Kano.
As of Wednesday, there were no signs that the
striking lecturers would comply with the government
directives to return to the classroom on Monday.
Also, the university authorities had yet to issue a
circular directing students to return for lectures.
Meanwhile, the National Parent-Teacher-Association
of Nigeria has asked the striking teachers to see the
extension of the resumption deadline as a sign of
goodwill from the Federal Government.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on
Wednesday, the NAPTAN North Central Coordinator,
Alhaji Danladi Aliyu, said the extension showed that
the government was committed to ending the strike.
Aliyu said, “I am pleading with both parties not to
see this issue as a war that must be won or lost as
both are working in the interest of moving the nation
forward.
“ASUU should use this deadline extension to resume
duties, while we also urge the Federal Government
not to come down hard on them.”
In a related development, Nnamdi Azikiwe University
branch of ASUU has ordered its members that signed
the attendance register to delete their names from
the book.
Also, the management of Obafemi Awolowo
University, Ile-Ife has directed its students to resume
on Sunday.
A statement by the Public Relations Officer of OAU,
Mr. Biodun Olarewaju on Wednesday said, “The
authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife,
have announced Sunday, December 8, as the
resumption date for the 2012/ 2013 rain semester.
“Accordingly, students of the university are expected
to come into residence on the above date as lectures
will commence immediately.”
EducationMOUAU Reopens For 2013/2014 Academic Session by luvility(op): 7:14am On Dec 05, 2013
The Michael Okpara University of Agriculture
Umudike (MOUAU) in Abia has reopened for the
2013/2014 academic session, an official has said.
The Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mrs
Onyinye Ralph-Nwachukwu, confirmed the
resumption in an interview with the News Agency
of Nigeria (NAN) in Umuahia.
Ralph-Nwachukwu said the institution reopened on
Tuesday after a meeting of the Senate of the
University on Monday.
“The senate of the university met on Monday and
resolved to reopen on Tuesday and students have
started returning to campus,’’ she said.
The spokesperson said the
university time-table would be
redesigned for the completion of outstanding
examinations for the last semester of the
2012/2013 academic session.
She explained that fresh students had commenced
registration.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of MOUAU-ASUU, Dr
Uzochukwu Onyebinama, told NAN on phone that
the ASUU strike “has not been called off’’.
“The university has reopened, but we are still on
strike,’’ Onyebinama said. (NAN)
CrimeGuy Steals Iphone Sends Owner 11-page Handwritten List Of 1,000 Contacts by luvility(op): 1:12pm On Nov 30, 2013
Don't really knw where to post dis, but I found dis story very interesting
You’d have to agree that
when you lose a phone,
replacing the device isn’t
as painful as rebuilding
your list of contacts. That’s
why this Chinese thief is so
special – he copied over
1,000 contacts on to 11
pages by hand and sent them to the owner of the
phone he had stolen.
The $440 iPhone in question belonged to Zou Bin, a
barman from Changsha, capital of the Hunan
province. Zou told local media that he was returning
home wasted from his best friend’s bachelor party
earlier this month, when the theft occurred. He had
passed out in the taxi taking him home along with
three other strangers. Zou isn’t certain which one of
them was the culprit.
When Zou discovered that his phone was missing the
next morning, he naturally was furious. The device
contained more than 1,000 work related contacts
that he could not afford to lose. So he did the first
thing that came to mind – Zou sent threatening text
messages to his own number from a friend’s phone.
In what would later turn out to be a smart move, Zou
texted the thief, “You can be sure that I will find you.
Just have a look through my contacts and you will
see who I am. If you are clever, you will send the
mobile back to the following address…”
Of course, Zou wasn’t serious, which is why the
pickpocket’s next move stunned him. Four days later,
he received a package couriered to his front door.
Unfortunately it didn’t contain the phone, but it did
carry the next best thing – a handwritten list of Zou’s
contacts and his SIM. “All of the numbers were
handwritten,” said Zou. “It would take a long time
simply to write the numbers 1 to 1,000 let alone all
those names and telephone numbers. It must have
given him a swollen hand.”
Zou advised that people shouldn’t just give up if they
lose their phone. “Sometimes bluffing works,” he
said. “But it is also best to save your contacts to your
SIM card so you spare the thief some writing.” The
thief, whoever he or she is, has become a hero of
sorts in the Chinese media. Internet users are calling
him ‘the conscience of the robbery industry’. He’s
even being compared to model citizen Lei Feng,
member of the People’s Liberation Army.
I’m not sure what prompted the thief to do such a
thing. Was he genuinely trying to help Zou, or did he
feel threatened by the text messages? Whatever the
reason, it’s pretty special what he’s done. Perhaps
the poor fellow never meant to steal the phone, but
didn’t really have the heart to return it either.

Which of these is holding you down from being
valuable? After
serious consideration, You will discover that
all these
are products of great minds And busy hands.
What are you busy doing? ASUU strike
should be a blessing for you. Not a curse
Why cant you take advantage of this period
And also
put your name in the hearts of people. As an
accounting student, What will it cost you to
walk up to
a bank close to your house And tell the branch
manager you are willing
to work with them for free? Irrespective of your
level at
school. Go to as many banks as possible.
Go back as many times as you hear a
NO. I dont think this would cost you anything.
Dont you
know this would add a bullet of experience to
your CV
as a
graduate?
As an English or art student, Have you
checked all the radio stations around and they
told you
they dont need you?
There is no harm in trying. All you do at
home is to listen to music on FM and
you are happy? Really funny! Listen, you can
be great
in life without having a degree.
So dont let ASUU vs FG hold you down.
Dont be deceived. You have everything
you need already. You can read. You can
write. You can
speak good English. Oh!
You can even use the internet. And funny
enough you
also have a phone that can be used to surf the
internet.
What else do you need? Tell me. You think
you need a
degree to get busy?
I laugh. Make use of google to see how
many Nigerian graduates are jobbless.
Some are even at home now waiting for
NYSC.
That is their own excuse for not getting
busy. My dear, you dont have an excuse.
Dont wait for FG.
They are doing nothing and they wont.
Make your moment count. Dont waste
you like. Get up and find something to do. Go
out now.
You are already educated. A degree won't
make you
educated. You have it already. Go and ask
how much
pepper sellers are
making per day. Go check how much
tailors are making. Bricklayers, Akara sellers,
Bukaterias, Barbers, Salons, Mechanics etc.
These are people you will regard as
'uneducated'. What about you that
knows the laws of physics, knows why water
is
colorless And why calculus can not be used in
literature?
It is a pity that are you using all that on
soccer manager and vampire diaries.
You use your laptop as a toy instead as a
tool. Why cant you apply those things
you have learnt in school to everyday trade in
your
neighborhood?
Why cant you call your friends around
to form a team and form a company?
Why cant you learn something? Fashion
designing, programming, craft etc.
Why cant you develop your selling and
negotiation skill? Why cant you buy and read a
book
today?
Why cant you volunteer to work in a
company around you for free?
Why cant you think about your life for
once and forget degree, ASUU or FG?
Why not NOW?? Time Waits For No Man!
Now Is The Time

PoliticsPresident Jonathan Speaks by luvility(op): 11:34am On Oct 07, 2013
Remarks by
His Excellency, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR
On the Occasion of the Inauguration of the National Advisory
Committee On our Country’s Conversation towards a Greater
Nigeria.
State House, Presidential Villa, Abuja
Monday October 7th 2013
PROTOCOLS
1. Today, we are taking historic and concrete steps that will
further strengthen our understanding, expand the frontiers
of our inclusiveness and deepen our bond as one people under
God.
2. In my address to the Nation on the occasion of our 53rd
Independence and Golden Anniversary as a Republic, I
announced that in response to the yearnings of our people,
we had decided to take on the responsibility of decisively and
genuinely exploring the option of a National Conversation.
3. In furtherance of this objective, Government announced the
names of some Nigerians, with wide experience from various
disciplines, to form membership of an Advisory Committee to
facilitate a most acceptable process that will bring our
aspirations to fruition. Our gathering here today is to formally
inaugurate this child of necessity, the Advisory Committee to
midwife this Conversation.
4. Permit me to very quickly review the foundational principles
that drive our action, and also address a few matters arising.
Firstly, let me emphasize that this is a National Project, a
sincere and fundamental undertaking, aimed at realistically
examining and genuinely resolving, longstanding impediments to
our cohesion and harmonious development as a truly united
Nation.
5. There is a view by some of our people that we do not need
to sit together to dialogue over the socio-political challenges
facing our country. Some believe that because we have held
several Conferences in the past, we do not need to hold
another one. I was one of those who exhibited scepticism on
the need for another Conference or Dialogue. My scepticism
was borne out of the nomenclature of such a Conference,
taking into cognizance existing democratic structures that
were products of the will of the people.
6. However, we are in a democracy, and in a democracy;
elected leaders govern at the behest of the citizenry. As
challenges emerge, season after season, leaders must
respond with best available strategies to ensure that the
ship of state remains undeterred in its voyage.
7. Nations rise to the challenges that each epoch presents. It
is imperative therefore, that in our march to nationhood, we
have to be dynamic in our approach and response to the
problems, even as we seek solutions to them. We cannot
proffer yesterday's solutions to today's problems.
8. Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, let us remind ourselves
of the gains from previous Conferences and Dialogues. The
Conferences that were held before 1960 were designed to
produce a political system and a roadmap to Nigeria's
independence.
9. The Constitutional Conference of 1957 in London, for
example, effectively prepared Nigeria for Independence. The
Eastern and Western regions were granted self-government
in 1957, while the Northern region got its own in 1959. The
Office of the Prime Minister was created and it was also
decided that the Federal Legislature would be Bi-cameral.
10. Furthermore, the Constituent Assembly of 1978 gave us
the 1979 Constitution and also created the current
Presidential System with its attendant checks and balances
and Fundamental Human Rights provisions. The 1999
Constitution we operate today, is a successor to the 1979
Constitution and records show that the 1999 Constitution also
benefited from reports and recommendations arising from
the 1994/1995 Constitutional Conference.
11. Although not enshrined in the 1999 Constitution, the idea of
the current Six Geo-Political Zones that have become one of
the avenues for equitable distribution of projects and public
offices in Nigeria was also a product of Dialogue that emerged
from the 1994/1995 Constitutional Conference.
12. The 2005 National Political Reform Conference produced a
number of key recommendations that were sent to the 5th
Assembly, which were however not perfected. In 2010, I
reasoned that the outstanding recommendations from the
2005 Conference be revisited.
13. It was my view that Government is a continuum and that
we must find ways to strengthen the foundation of our
Union. I proceeded to set up the Justice Alpha Belgore
Committee with a mandate to review the report for possible
implementation, especially the areas were there was a
common agreement. The committee worked hard and came
out with its report that included a number of Bills, which were
forwarded to the National Assembly.
14. We believe that these Bills will form key components of the
on-going Constitutional Review by the National Assembly.
15. Clearly, every dialogue adds something valuable to our
evolving Nation. The urgency of a National Conversation in the
present therefore, need not be over emphasized.
16. Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, as we continue to
strive to build a strong and virile Nation, especially in the midst
of agitations and tensions, we cannot deny the fact that
sitting down to talk is one right step in calming down tensions
and channelling our grievances, misgivings and suggestions into
more positive use for the good of our Country.
17. Let me use this opportunity to thank the Senate
President, and the leadership and members of the National
Assembly for the support they have given to this important
National Project.
18. The concept of participatory democracy is such that even
after the people have given their representatives the
mandate to make laws and act on their behalf, there is also a
space for the governed to make further input into the
political processes, without undermining the authority of the
statutory bodies. Sovereignty continues to be with the people
even as the people evolve strategies and tactics to
strengthen its foundation for the benefit of successor
generations.
19. It is this sort of collaboration between the people and
established institutions of government, that will allow for a
robust outcome that leads to greater understanding and a
more cohesive and inclusive Union. For me, there is no
alternative to inclusivity, equity and justice in a modern
democratic state.
20. I will therefore like to allay the fears of those who think
the Conference will call the integrity of Nigeria into question.
This National Discourse will strengthen our union and address
issues that are often on the front burner, and are too
frequently ignored.
21. Ladies and Gentlemen, Dear Committee Members, this is a
serious task, and history beckons on you not to disappoint our
people. I want to charge you to consult widely before sitting
down to develop the framework that will guide and guard the
proceedings of the discussions.
22. In the task before you, no voice is too small and no opinion
is irrelevant. Thus, the views of the sceptics and those of the
enthusiasts must be accommodated as you formulate this all
important framework. This Conversation is a People’s
Conversation and I urge you to formulate an all-inclusive
process that protects the people’s interest.
23. Let me also urge the Advisory Committee not only to be
alive to the expectations of our people, but to bear in mind,
that what we desire is what can work for the good of our
people and country. The goal is to bequeath a better and a
greater Nigeria to the present and the generation that is to
come.
24. Ladies and Gentlemen, We have wasted too much time and
resources, bickering over sectional versions of what define
reality. This is an open-ended luxury we can no longer afford.
Let us move forward, with honest conviction and patriotic
courage, to strengthen this Republic, and get it to work
better and brighter, for all of us, to the glory of God.
25. On this note, I hereby inaugurate the National Advisory
Committee on this significant National Assignment and give the
Committee six weeks to submit its report. I thank you for
accepting to serve and I wish you the very best of wisdom in
this very important call to duty.
26. Congratulations! I thank you.
