I said forget nationality cos if that clip was coming from a an Italian magazine it won't change the message. Talking about football trends was totally out of the context of numbers ruling today's game. What rules in Spain? In France? In Germany? Numbers and stats. Mind you at a deeper level it accords with the mental frame of the white man. He thinks scientifically. So we are just scratching the surface yet as per the rulership of numbers in today's game. It's going to get deeper. You obviously not looking at trends in the game from a wholistic angle. Ever wondered the why and what of technology in today's football?

At the end of every game what remains is a harvest of stats - for managers, pundits, fans even the referees.

No more talk about the sweetness of a pass, a nod, a free kick. Instead it's the velocity, the speed, the power. Can you measure the sweetness of a pass? No! But the velocity, the speed, the power can be measured.
so the black man doesn't think scientifically? grin grin
u do realise they are such tinz as pointless stats dont u?
liverpool had all d possession and lost to man u
barca had all d possession and lost to bayern
bayern had all the possession and lost to chelsea
yet if u look at the stats and use it as d main yardstick ur first thought would be that its impossible
football is about tactics and having the right players for any system
again stats are just used for records and fitness purposes

Sacchi is anachronistic. Talk of what Gaurdiola would do. I say today's football. Context Bro.
and yet sacchi was one of the few coaches outside cryuff and ajax who followed stats religiously
who do u think taught pep?
cryuff schooled pep

@first bold, how many Nigeria players were signed by top teams in Europe in 1995 when Nigeria was ranked 5th by FIFA and despite the 94 performance?
There are more to this things than the eyes can see.

I don agree with you On the second bold-A resilent mindset.
ajax had finidi and kanu so that top team argument holds no water
more to what exactly?if u are rubbish in europe u get found out quickly
there is a global dearth in football talent coming through atm

Attack the message not the nationality of the messenger. What difference would it have made if the assertion was coming from a French magazine. Does stats rule today's football or not. Forget about football trends in Italy, Spain or France. We will discuss that some other time. Question is what is the single and overriding consideration across the board in today's football? Stats! Pure stats.
first u say don't attack the nationality then u say forget other nations
stats may rule in england but believe me in the rest of europe only fitness coaches and club statisicians and gamblers care about that hogwash
there was something souness said about stats after man u's win over liverpool
try and check it out

Hahahaha hahahaha. Stats have antecedents. So yes they'd still look at him cos reference can always be made to his previous stats. I hate stats and all. But forget it, today's game is for numbers. It's the players with the numbers who rules. If in comparison to others Ndidi is producing numbers then why not give it to him when those same numbers is used to judge others. Go to youtube and watch fourfour two video titled number's game.
four four two is a english magazine
english football until wenger's arrival had players drinking the way u and me drink beer and eating chips
d tinz english football celebrate were already basic in italy, spain and france ages ago
d number tingy bcame popular in the early 2000s and opta and prozone are fairly recent

for serious managers no

I have learnt to stop comparing our players to their foreign counterparts. Simply because they're not on the same WAVELENGHT and so I can never judge them by the same FREQUENCY.

The difference is clear and obvious. The difference is NATIONALITY and NATIONALITY ALONE.

We're always trying to compare Nigeria players with those players from S.America, Europe etc when we all know that the FIELD OF PLAY IS NEVER FAIR AND EVEN.

A certain coach came on board and gave a relatively unknown player from S.America a call and the next was history.

If Ndidi was to be a European or a S.American, no one will be here discussing this. The Main Stream media would have pass their verdict on his quality.

To those who never believe in the quality of our players, I say put other top DMs(the Kroos, the Casemiros, etc) in leicester and let's see if they'll churn out the same numbers Ndidi is producing week in week out.

I have come to appreciate the work our boys are putting everyweek in Europe to keep the our flag flying.

I know someday, verysoon, we'll silent every doubters. Those who never believe any good thing can come out of NIGERIA.

I rest my case
if pep manages a non league side he will struggle
same for mourinho and klopp
top players make coaching easy
as per nationality wow i didn't know that drogba, salah, weah and eto'o were europeans or south american
and as for sumtin gud coming out of nigeria then kanu, amuneke, okocha and oliseh were bad then?

Ozil is a top player because of the number of assists, he provides.. That is his product.. Your stats is a measure of your productivity. It is an important measure in buying a player. not a small measure..

Positional discipline, out of field behavior etc are also considered. It is a holistic approach.
again u miss d point
assists and goals scored are very important stats
why do u think chelsea bought sheva and kezman?
why do u think man u waited a year to sign van nistelrooy and pulled out the stops to sign RVP
do u think they were looking at tackles completed or distance covered??

That is untrue. Ronaldo is known globally, buying Ronaldo is completely different from buying a prospect.

Scouts analyze every part of a player's game including their stats before making recommendations.
lol
but evryone on this thread keeps bringing up ndidi's stats and dats wat im trying to say
stats play a very small role in a player's purchase and by stats i mean the silly prozone types like most tackles, distance covered etc
many top level players fail beep tests all over the world yet still play for big teams

I agree with your stance in this discuss. Ndidi still has a lot to learn, long pass accuracy, fast transitions, shot accuracy.... Do you know he is the worst players in terms of shooting accuracy in the EPL... the guy who has taken the highest number of shots without scoring... Make we calm down for the hype abeg... Ndidi still de grow and even on present form cannot and will not bench matic.

So you think Barca cannot chase Ndidi? Matic is just a bigger and more popular player. Ndidi at 21 is certainly a better defensive midfielder than Matic is, except in making timely passes like someone said earlier.
amuneke and yes believe this gbenga okunowo and haruna babaginda all played for barca
but why would barca buy ndidi when they have rakitic and paulinho ?
again u are comparing a world class player to one who is still in the early stages of his career

Please define what they are held by?

It has to something.. Their passing ability, their goalscoring, their defending... each of these things are backed up by stats. Yes, it might not tell the full story but it is certainly more objective than feelings.
no football manager buys players by stats
none
they look at ur ability and what u add to the team
lemme give u an example

I read a report today about Barca chasing Ndidi in the summer. It might be nothing but clubs are certainly watching.

If an English player is posting the kind of numbers, Ndidi is at the moment, the hype will be crazy.
agents put out silly stories in the papers evry once in a while to generate interest in their clients(All agents do this) and to drive their wages up.
that's the difference,he ain't english so why should he be hyped up?
kimmich and sule put in similar numbers in germany and don't get hyped
stats are just used to track fitness by serious coaches
only jokers take them serious

How many leagues did Kante play for? If you are good, you are good. Ndidi is producing numbers close to Kante's league winning season with Leicester and he is still young.

We have a world class player developing in front of our eyes and we are trying to underrate him.

Matic is world class and of a bigger stature but Ndidi right now is as good any DM out there in terms of breaking of play. Matic is a much better passer of the ball.
"Ndidi is producing numbers close to Kante's league winning season with Leicester and he is still young"
see what i am saying
u are still holding on to stats
a player in ndidi's role is never ever defined by just stats

the way guys underate our players sometimes is annoying and any small thing the will say we are hyping the player. smh
first of vitesse is to chelsea what royal antwerp is to man u ie a feeder club
also ballack, lampard and deco were running chelsea's midfield at the time so there was no way a young matic was ever going to just stroll into that midfield
also isn't ur argument about ndidi currently better than matic?
as per underrating our players well so many ppl are falling into the trap that the english just got out off

Matic is a bigger player only by name, that's all. Ndidi right now compares with the best in the world in his position and he is still improving.

matic is not a bigger player only by name,he made his bones in benfica and returned to chelsea and proved it.

matuidi, matic, jorginho, naby keita all play in ndidi's position
