Why are people judging the man because of his past?

The sole aim of a presidential pardon is to give people renewed hope.

Can you see how you ridicule yourself

Is Saro Wiwa here today for you to ask? What did Abacha do to you
In your mind you think you are making sense with that question?
Even if you put pearls in front of swine the can never value them they will remain pigs

The point in history is for those with discernment

Saro Wiwa lived next door to Abacha in Port Harcourt IN 1977.
They were neighbours in. GRA. They served in the military administration of Lekwot
Lekwot was sentenced to death for his role in the Zagon Kataf disturbance. Abacha pardoned him

Saro Wiwa was sentenced to death by a military Tribunal for an offence which was incitement with a maximum penalty of 14 years
There was no legal basis for a Tribunal which did not exist at the time of the alleged offence
He was executed in less than 2 weeks of the verdict

I do not need to read books about what happened I have intimate personal knowledge of those that were killed and executed and their families
How their kids played with Abacha s kids in the 70s

There is no rational explanation for the conviction and execution of NINE MEN in 10 days for the killing of 4 men without option of appeal

So in contrast educate us what did Abacha do to SLS?
How is it that 9 men were executed for the murder by incitement of 4 men when the 9 men were nowhere near the scene

Incitement by what means written publication or broadcast that cannot be reproduced?

What evidence is it that was used to convict them that was so compelling that they needed to be executed so quickly

Nine men?

And yet we cannot see or hear the evidence
I tend to avoid discussions like this because it either flows from kids way too young to have a grasp of history or adults driven by emotions and hard headed thinking
Anyways
Fresh facts have emerged as to why the government of late Sani Abacha did not kill Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), governor, Lamido Sanusi, in 1995, after he and eight other jihadists mobilized crazed extremists to behead Gideon Akaluka in jail
Akaluka, a young igbo trader, allegedly desecrated the Koran. He was arrested after his wife allegedly used pages of the Koran as toilet paper for her baby. After he was locked up by the police, a group of Muslim fundamentalists break into the jail, beheaded Akaluka, and paraded his bodiless head around the streets of Kano.

Pointblanknews.com investigation has revealed the role Sanusi, A proponent of the controversial Islamic Bank, played in the murder of Akaluka, and why the Abacha regime decided to  lock him up for two years for the murder of Akaluka.

Now compare the GRUESOME murder of 4 men by a group of men who were motivated by the senseless rhetoric of Saro-Wiwa.
I hope you are fully aware that military regimes rule by decree so even the executions while a pity were valid under military rule.
Civilian law is more or less subdued under military rule.

Saro wiwa's eternal sin of rejecting Biafra. Bros, shey na by force? So how you brought sokoto and Jamaica together with your cut and join story.
NYCOP youths ‘policed’ the boycott by barricading roads to block election officers from delivering election materials, and by intimidating voters into staying away from the polling booths. They threatened to burn the home of anyone who came out to vote. In retaliation for Saro-Wiwa’s arrest and harassment by security forces, NYCOP members attacked and burned police stations, raided their armouries, and looted shops. A group of eleven prominent Ogonis apologised for, and dissociated themselves from, the violence and clashes with police. The apology was printed in a national newspaper. To SaroWiwa and the youth, the apology was evidence of the older leaders’ quisling status. Angry youths attacked and burned the houses of several Ogoni leaders, and forced them to flee. To those attacked, the attacks were evidence that Saro-Wiwa was using NYCOP as his personal gang of enforcers. Vultures Following Leton’s and Kobani’s resignations, Saro-Wiwa became the new MOSOP president and Ledum Mitee, a lawyer, its new vice-president. NYCOP members who were loyal to Saro-Wiwa depicted Leton and Kobani as traitors to the Ogoni cause. In local parlance they were termed ‘vultures’— those who collaborated with the Ogonis’ enemies to betray and prey upon their own people. The term ‘vulture’ became a dangerous epithet with which to be associated. It came to represent the worst form of treachery to the Ogoni cause, and those to whom it was applied faced violence or even death. The leadership rift in MOSOP and the accusations and counter-accusations of betrayal and collusion with the government created an intense atmosphere of suspicion and witch-hunting.

Your father cannot father me
A special military Tribunal was set up to try the Ogoni Nine after the offences were committed

Ken SaroWiwa was nowhere near Ogoni land when those 4 men were killed
He was convicted for murder by incitement AND executed within days with no option to appeal

In. Port Harcourt I know 1 was not told

Zamani Lekwot was Governor in RIvers State
Abacha was Brigade commander in RIvers State
Saro Wiwa was commissioner in RIvers State
They all were in the military executive Council of RIvers state at the same time

Abacha knew Saro Wiwa personally for some years they would have had meetings every week
They were next door neighbours on Nzimiro Street in 1977

And Saro Wiwa was sentenced to death, Abacha personally approved the sentence and he was executed in 10 days

Throughout the military regime when we had Maitasine riots we had religious incitement in the North and no special Tribunals were set up to kill anyone so quickly
Why couldn't the case be tried in the regular courts including option of appeal
In 1995 we had the killing of Gideon Akaluka

What did Abacha do
In 1995 we had the killing of Gideon Akaluka

What did Abacha do

You claim to know history
Laughable
Anyways ask SLS what Abacha did to him
FYI try and read Max siollun's soldiers of fortune: The Abacha and Abiole years
You would see how saro wiwa more or less put those men in mortal danger

owobokiri:
Ken SaroWiwa was not framed by anybody. He committed a crime because of his overblown impressions of himself and paid dearly for it. Good riddance!

Ken Saro Wiwa made very inciting statements that led to burning alive of some of the Ogoni elders. What most of you don't know is that he has always been at loggerheads with those leaders even before that day. Some of those leaders that were burnt that day by the Ogoni youths following Saro Wiwas outbursts, were on the side of Biafra during the Biafra- Nigeria war! So his disdain for them runs deep and have been there for a while..

They knew themselves since they have battled a lot in the past. Abacha knew them since he was stationed at Portharcourt after the war and lived close with Saro Wiwa. He understood the underlying sentiments behind Ken Saro Wiwas outbursts that day, that ended with more than 4 Ogoni elders who didn't agree with him being burnt alive..

It is unfortunate that because the South West has an endemic disdain for Abacha, they have used their mercenary press houses to create the narratives that suggest that Abacha just woke up one morning, then constituted a tribunal with an order to sentence Saro Wiwa and his group. No! That was not what happened.

My great aunty who lived in Portharcourt for years was friendly with the wife of one of the men who were burnt alive in their cars that day. The day she met her after the crime, the wife narrated everything that happened. Ken made a statement that encouraged that event. He has been like that since the war days.
Together with Adaka Boro, they were ready to cut of their noses just to spite their faces..

He simply ran out of luck and paid for his long crimes..
I always wonder why these people always try to rewrite history😄

in these days of coveting other people's property and cultural appropriation, it is important to state that egusi is a yoruba stew. it is a yoruba name. I am not going to argue with ibos if they say they have had their own version of egusi from time immemorial or whenever their history started but they should call it by it's ibo name. We yorubas eat afam, ogbono, edi kang kong, you wont hear any yoruba saying they are yoruba stews or they are yoruba names. we dont claim what is not ours others should not claim what is not theirs. We have enough to be proud of what is ours and to leave to Ceaser what is Caeser's and other's who are not ashamed of their culture history and traditions should do same.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egusi

Etymology

The 'ẹ' means 'to', 'gun' means 'pound' or 'grind', and 'ṣi' means 'to open'; this etymology of 'egusi' soup, meaning 'to grind open', reflects the procedure used in its preparation.[9][10]

Egusi stew is now widely eaten across large portions of West and Central Africa where it is known by various local names, many of which are variants of the word egusi itself. Some of the other names egusi goes by across the region include:

Yoruba : Egusi / Egushi (Ẹ̀gúṣí)[11]
Hausa : Agusi,[12] Agushi[13] (via Yoruba)[14]
Twi : Akatowa[15]
Ga : Agushi, Egushi[16][17]
Igbo : Élìlì,[18] Énìnì, Ekeke, Ahụ, Élìlè, Ilolo, Iroro, Éyìyè, Ogili, Nwanru,[19] Ègwúsí (Onitsha Igbo; via Yoruba)[20][21]
Edo : Ogi, Ikpogi
Ibibio, Efik : Íkpán, Ikon
Fon : Gúsí
Nupe : Epín, Epíngi, Paragi
Urhobo : Ikpogri[22]
Tiv : Icegher
Kikongo, Lingala : Mbika[23][24]
