In fishfarming,likewise other animal production,you dont assume everything is stable, it is the foundational imput & planning that sets the direction where the ship is heading to & the management would determine if it will happen.

I personally think 4000 is too overcrowded. Like I said in my first post I want to raise the fish to be approximately 1.5kg in 4 months what appropriate number do I stock to achieve this. I already have an optimum management feasibility plan I just need stocking density to proceed.

I can give you what you could stock, but the question will be how reliable is the juvenile or parent stock that will guarantee that target weight?

I understand, assuming everything being equal what number should I stock successfully for optimum growth.

Please does anyone know the ideal number of juveniles I need to stock in a 20ft by 40ft Earthen pond to achieve a weight of 1.5kg in 4 months.

@op, is this feed machine already in Nigeria, if so where is it located for viewing.

And this is the original Artemia I intend using for the next hatchery as none of the fries survived today, I will have to start afresh.

first thing is to test the water.
have you tested the water ? what is the ph? water is d calcium and other mineral composition?

I have tested the water already and the constitution is perfect for fishery.

Please how many days should I feed fries Artemia before I switch to supplemental feeds, and what is the best supplemental feed to give them after that.

I wanted to comment but I looked at your profile name and discovered your comments portray what your name is. So I rest my case.

I use flow through system so most of the time the water is always clear with no residue, water flows in the hatchery 24 hrs. Also I do not see any dead fries, could it be cannibalism?
Do I need to add vitamins to the water.
I was able to get a very original artemia, how long should fries be fed artemia before they are switched to feeds?

Please how many times do you think I should feed the fries daily.

I am still waiting for suggestions, any opinions?

I need the help, I recently set up a well consturcted flow-thorugh hatchery system and I am currently experiencing very low survival rate of the newly hatched fries 2 weeks later, I have less than 200 fries left in the 4 hatchery containers.

I used Coppens crumbs to feed them due to the high level of adulterated artemia in the market, but they do not seem to be doing well. I also have good borehole water and the PH is measured regularly but their numbers keep dropping everyday, Please I need advice seriously as I do not know what is wrong. Am afraid I may loose all the fries in a weeks time.

Will it be possible to elaborate those features of an ideal broiler poultry house for 5000 bird capacity?

I can see that you used thesame poultry house to breed from Day old chick to pullet stage, you used tarpaulin to shield maintain warmth for the chicks at young age then removed the tarpaulin when they have grown for ventilation. I think it is a good idea, but can one build a half wall poultry house as well. and use net to cover the remaining upper half?. Will it be suitable for raising from DOC to Pullet stage?, any suggestion is appreciated.

with my little knowledge i feel 3.5months is too much to and that will eat into your profit. 2.5 to 3months at maximum should be considered melange, remember some people attain table size at 4months

As in melange farming u sell per weight usually the buyers buy at 40kg measurements, at 3 months from fingerling stage, how sure are we that they will attain enough weight. Because it now means we ll weigh out more fish to attain their selling quantity. But if it is 3 months from juvenile stage then that's ok.

For the fingerlings you can stock , let me give you a valid calculation system you can use: length x width x depth x 7.5= u get the gallons of water in your tank/pond, multiply it by 3.79 to get it converted to US GALLONS, then divide by 10 or 12 & u get d you need to raise table size in your pond. Double it if melange, if your water quality or mgt is great,stock 10-15% more ,pls do d calculation, thanks

Thanks, from my calculation with ur formula , after 10% extra I got close to 6000 fingerlings per pond. Does that sound about right to stock in a 14/14/5 ft pond for melange farming.
Currently I stock 5000 per pond, so there's still room for more fingerlings to stock my next batch?
But with this 5000 fingerlings per pond, I get average weight of 600grams after 3.5 months from fingerling stage.
Is that good production?

#wats d dept of the pond? If it's 5ft, u cal capacity as thus; (14*14*5)/3=X*5 for flow thru n X*3 for stagnant system.

The depth of the pond is 5 feet, pls calculate using ur formular, ur symbols are unclear.

Where are u based and which state do u supply from.

Melange fish farming is the most lucrative of fish farming options. All u need to do is to inform the local women that dry and resell, believe me, those women can finish the whole fish on your pond in a day and also pay cash. Don't underestimate them.
Even if u have up to 2tonnes of fish 5 women can buy everything. Speaking from experience as currently am trying to meet to their demands.

You are doing well, your fishes look healthy, but I would advice, smoothen the interior edges of the of your fish pond so that your big fishes will not bruise their skin when they flap about in water, also change your water regularly so it doesn't get too green.
