How long did u store your Claris?

You mean how long did I stock my Clarias before sale? I stock my Clarias for 3.5 to 4 months then I sell off. I have shooters from the stock that can weigh 600grams at that stage but the average weight is 300-400grams.
The good thing I like about Clarias is that I do not have as much mortality, I stocked 15,000 fingerlings and so far only had 30 mortality and that was during the first month, that is not excluding cannibalism even though I sort my fishes well.
So if you want melange fish farming Clarias is good, if you want grow out fishes of above 2kg , Hetero is better I think, but it does better in earthen ponds, so they say, av not tried.

I have a fish farm and when I started I used Hetero, then I noticed that Hetero which is known to have unlimited growth grew to a good size i.e more than 1kg in 6 months , but we're less active and had more fishes that had stunted growth.
I then stocked Claris and discovered that they grew faster in my concrete pond and were more active and full of energy. So currently I use Clarias for my melange fish farming and so far output has been good.
Some people use a hybrid of the two species but av not tried it.

How much are you willing to buy a table size fish for. Also we dont sell in credit. Its cash and carry.

It's 40 plots not 40 acres. From your calculation then it will require 280 mesh of 60ft length to cover 40 plots of land.

I hav used mesh b4. For each plot u need approx 3.5 mesh. Which is 60ft each. So for 40 plots u need abt 3.5 x 40 equals 140mesh needed. D last time I bought d quoted mesh of 8ft height it was 20k (dat was 2013 b4 d rise of dollar) remember u will buy galvanized pipes.

So in 2013 to fence 40plots would have cost 2.8 million. Now it will be over double the price because of dollar rise.

I will like to know the length of mesh wire fence needed to fence 40 plots of land, with each Plot measuring 100ft/100ft. This is a whole lot of land to fence so We need accurate measurement before it is started.

Please can these hormone feeds be used on catfish farming to boost fast growth. Is hormonal feed good for catfish like it is for tilapia.

Mostly the northern part of Nigeria, but I have managed to grow beetroot nurseries successfully in the South East, for later transplant to see how well they will do there. So far it's doing well.
If it does then ll go into commercial farming.

Selling smoked fish is not a problem. Once you are able to package it neatly and use very good drying methods to produce a well preserved and tasty fish you can sell directly to office workers, supermarkets etc. Once you hv a good customer base, they will be looking for you instead.
For export you need a special smoking kiln that can smoke the fish to have less carbon and other byproduct content.

I have been following this thread, very informative. We have 3 hectares to be dedicated to plantain farming, I will need your assistance in the procurement of good quality plantain suckers. Also we are going to go into planting processing, what profitable is plantain flour processing per hectare in terms of financial breakdown. Also is it a good idea for us to intercrop plantain with water melon. Farm is located in Delta State.

Initially I did not want to read this thread as i usually read threads on commercial farming but on second thought av read this and it says nothing but the simple life saving truth to us that live in the tropics and the natural blessings we have.
Why do our youths sit around and wait to be employed rather than creating employment for ourselves, @jollyjoy, this thread shows that even with a few plants of plantain, OP is able to visibly establish the fact that no matter how small your agricultural venture is that you can sustain yourself and the economy. OP has harvested 15 bunches in a year, how many have you harvested.
1 bunch of that plantain will go for nothing less than 1500naira in the market, so OP will be making not less than 20,000naira randomly by selling the products if thats an option.
So please the aim of this thread is to show that nothing is too small, step by step anyone can be a millionaire if only they are focused and intelligent enough to make use of what is around them to achieve success.

I intend going into large scale plantain farming and I would like to know whether one can intercrop watermelon with Plantain in Ogun state. The intercropping is to ensure weed control in the farm.

This is so sad because that tilapia fish farm is so big and was constructed and managed by Onida an Isreali company. I have watched their you tube videos and it was an amazing establishment. Do you know whether there are any other similar big fish farm establishments in Rivers aside that.

Please does anyone know the contact number and address of Buguma fish farm in Rivers state. Our team intends to go on an excursion trip there and we need to know whether we need to book an appointment with them prior to the visit.

Does anyone know the size of fish pond that can contain 5000 pieces of table size catfish.

One of the advantages of earthen ponds is they are cheap to construct however the down side is that it is prone to flooding. I know of a fish farmer whose pond flooded and he came the next morning to discover that all his fish; nearly 6000 peices of catfish has been washed off to the nearby bushes and into the nearby river. Villagers came overnight and took all the fishes washed to the nearby location. Not only did that happen all the sand that was dug out of the earthen pond was washed back into the pond again burying the remaining catfish.
It was such a sorry sight. He had to abandon the fish project till dry season.
I still believe concrete ponds remain the best and most secure permanent way of fish production.
