Looks like decent formulas. What type of Vitamin C you use? You might consider adding a bit of all-in vitamin premix. Also closely watch quality of your ingredients for spoilage (aflatoxins through moulding, or fat oxidation). And you could add some 100-200 grams of citric acid powder.
Thanks a lot.

Agriculture / Re: The Major Garri Processing Machines With Prices by MAAF: 7:37pm On Sep 25, 2016
@ Op

I am into food processing also, and from my little experience food processing is aimed at maximising profit of the farmer. But in the process of installing a processing plant be it for crops or animal products you have to look for the cheapest yet most effective machines to allow you produce good quality end products.
Using Garri processing for example, how many people go to super markets to buy packaged and labelled Garri?? Even if people buy them , by the time you have sold 10 packs of 1 kg weight, I have sold up to 10 bags of 50kg bags to market women and cashed out and continue my cycle of processing.
Business is about turnover not about how pretty it sounds in the ear. Business is about maximising your profits by targeting your biggest buyers and channelling your goods to them.

I am talking from experience cos am into food processing myself and I am fully hands on in what I do. I meet my buyers one on one ,do market surveys based on demand and cost and produce accordingly otherwise I will run at a loss.

My processing plant has locally fabricated equipments which are cheap( thereby saving me money in the aspect of cost production) and they have not given me a single problem since I acquired them.

Considering the fact that most farmers are still at the subsistent level, I do not know how many people can afford hundreds of thousands to set up a common Garri Processing plant like you have quoted when they can walk into the market and assemble strong equipments at less than 3/4 of the price you have quoted. As we all know government loans are difficult to come by.

If you supply your equipments to the ' A ' team who can afford it, I guess you have to look for another medium to advertise your products as here on NL- agric section , most of us support our selves with realistic and affordable products that can help everybody grow, maximise profit and save unnecessary expenses.

From your comments you should be a bit more polite in addressing people who are airing their views about your strange prices, cos they have right to their opinion, sounding arrogant and demeaning wouldn't do your business any good. Learn to make your points in a reasonable manner and be courteous in doing it cos at the end of the day people will always decide what they want to buy regardless of how it is advertised.
The choice is theirs.

Thanks

Bros this guy is just a consultant according to him, he is not a practicing garri producer and I know the that the prices of things have gone up recently but let's think of it, all the garri in the market all-over Nigeria do you think that their buyers do ask if they were made with stainless materials or who cares if they were made with first class lister engine? All am saying is that setting up a garri factory doesn't need a state of the art machineries, what you need is to get you factory premises clean and start production, what makes you think that even if you use 3 million naira to set up a garri factory that it will make your garri better off compared to the locally produced ones or make you sell more. You don't need nafdac registration number for garri and your best market is not the super markets but local buyers that buys in 50kg bags and supply to major markets, so I will advice everyone interested in this factory to forget about this garriguy idea because I know you don't need a consultant who wants you to use millions of Naira to setup a garri factory, producing garri is one of the cheapest things to start up in Nigeria for now, you just need to grow your farm and it's done, forget about him saying you buy cassava to produce garri, whoever tries that has him or herself to blame because you will heavily run at a loss, i know this because I am a practicing garri producer and not one white collar garri factory consultant, whoever wants to use millions of Naira for a garri factory is free to do just that, but believe me it will be a foolish investment

You have a good point.

Does anybody here use rice bran( rice chaff) for catfish feed production and if so what percentage should it make up in feed production.
Is it advisable to use it in feed production or just use maize.

For hatchlngs of 6 days and above you will need to treat for fungal infections. This is what kills fries most at such tender age. Use of aqua blue is very effective. 2ml of aqua blue to 100 liters of vat water while doing a flow through at about 4litres per minute is fine. You continue this till day 13.
There is a different regiment of treatment for day 1 to day 6.

Thanks a lot for sharing. Its really beneficial.

There is no any secret my chairman, let me post a recent formula that will guide you

FM @600/kg x 10 = 6000
SOYA@160/kg x 25 =4000
GNC@ 137/kg x 25 =3425
BM@ 160/kg x 10 = 1600
BWM 60/kg x 20 = 1200
CORN 160/kg x 10 = 1600
Lysine 500g = 450
Meth 200g = 980
Total 19255/100kg
192.5 naira/kg excluding transportation,grinding/pelleting cost

Note: This is ideal for finisher and not as starter

This is a fantastic cost breakdown.
Thanks for sharing. Please what is the full meaning of BWM.

i cant quote a page except i begin to check. I know we had answered questions in relation to fries treatment on this thread. For your question, you could treat your fries with aquapro against bacteria,it also assist to fight other disease sources, boost their immune & aid survival. It has almost no adverse effect on them. Also important you dont overfeed, remove all waste or leftovers to prevent disease outbreak. Keep clean water also. If any leftover of unhatch eggs? Remove them because they assist the buildup of fungi etc., Also mop slime away with clean & treated foam.Pls dont quote me with any more questions, iam preparing for ......, Though i might come on the thread to read.God Bless.

Does anyone know how to treat catfish hatchling diseases( fungal, bacterial and parasitic infections) and how to prevent hatching mortality from day 6 after hatching.
Agriculture / Re: I Want To Venture Into Catfish Hatchery by MAAF: 2:14pm On Sep 17, 2016
Hatchery is not for the faint hearted. I spent thousands of naira paying people to teach and hatch for me and they hatched nothing. I only succeded in hatching on my 10 attempt and that was only possible from my experience and research
You need to have the heart of steel and the patience of Mother Theresa to succed in this biz. Try grow out farming first.

Thank God

How many juveniles do u intend stocking in each of your ponds to raise up to melange size. I intend stocking 2000 juveniles in my 20/40/4 ft earthen pond to achieve a weight of at least 700g in 4months, is that a lot or should I reduce quantity.
Agriculture / Re: Hidden Truths About Catfish Business!!! by MAAF: 11:34am On Sep 11, 2016
igchuks:

Sure it will. It is the recommended quantity. However, a little above will not harm. It is meant to add microorganisms to the pond that your fries will feed on. You can either broadcast it like the other farmers are doing or put it in a bag. You will need to change your water every 3 days.

Thanks a lot for your assistance.
Agriculture / Re: Hidden Truths About Catfish Business!!! by MAAF: 10:25pm On Sep 10, 2016
igchuks:

Apply inorganic fertilizer at a rate of 2g/m² or 2g/10.76ft²
Apply organic fertilizer at a rate of 50g/m² or 50g/10.76ft²

For your pond multiply 11x7 then divide by 10.76 = 7.2
So you should be applying 50x7.2g of organic fertilizer

Thanks, I intend to put the poultry manure in a tied bagco bag and lower it into the pond and leave it in for 10 days before I stock my fries. From the calculation above I will be adding 360g of dried poultry manure into the bag and lower it into a pondOf approximately 50cm to 70cm depth of water.

Do you think this quantity is enough to adequately fertilze my pond and give it the fresh greenish colour within 10 days? Or should I increase the quality to 2kg since it is not thrown directly into the water?

Because some farmers I know just throw the poultry manure directly into the pond without putting it into a bag, but I think this method will easily polute the water faster.

Also another question is, if I fertilize the pond how often do I need to change the water in the concrete pond to siphon out dirt or do I not need to change the water at all.

Please advice.

Gurus In the house, does anybody know the quantity of poultry manure (weight in kg) to apply to a pond on 11 feet by 7 feet with a water depth of 50cm to fertilize my concrete pond for transfer of fish fries.
I do not want to over fertilize it.

Kaykaymil:
Now after all of that I have stocked the pond with 18,500 pieces of Juveniles not fingerlings. Fingerlings are too fragile for earth pond and would require heavy sorting after one month. juveniles of about 4-6 months old were procured at 20 naira each from Kado market in abuja from a reliable dealer. From the market to the farm the fishes were transported and are now 1 week old with a mortality of 18 so far minus cannibalism but so far so good the fishes are active and have adapted to the environment and feeding pattern all thanks to God and no problem from the community.

Please correct the above, it's "juvenile of 4-6 weeks" not months.

What is your target market? Market women or supermarkets alike. For market women they go more for clay oven-dried fish. For supermarkets/ packaged products then gas/charcoal oven dried catfish will go.
You decide.
