I also used windows 8.1 to do mine. Just ensure that you uninstall all old drivers for the phone then install the vcom drivers. Also check your USB cable

I just succeeded in rooting my phone after temporarily bricking it. I will be posting the procedure here. Nobody should be afraid of bricking his camon c8 because 1, the phone is cheap and it's a crappy rubbish , 2, stock rom for the camon c8 can now be downloaded at romkingz.net. to unbrick it. Now to the procedure.. Download the files, install mtk vcom drivers, open sp flash tool on your pc and run as Administrator, load scatter file, click on download, now connect your already turned off camon c8 to the computer via USB. Wait for the green pass mark to appear...... THE IMMEDIATELY BOOT TO RECOVERY. NOTE THAT IF YOU SIMPLY TURN ON YOUR PHONE AFTER FLASHING THE RECOVERY FULE, ANDROID WILL REPLACE YOUR FLASHD RECOVERY WITH THE ORIGINAL STOCK RECOVERY....... after booting into recovery, twrp recovery will come up and ask you if you want to modify recovery. Swipe to modify else it will be replaced on next reboot. Note also... DON'T ATTEMPT TO ALLOW THE TWRP TO INSTALL ITS OWN SUPER SU IF IT ASKS YOU TO, BECAUSE THAT WAS WHAT GOT MY PHONE BRICKED. INSTALL SUPER SU BY clicking on install, chose your zip file which contains the super su which you downloaded and install it. Reboot phone and wait for it to boot up. Might take a long while to. Just be patient

I think what tecno did was to make the c8 pictures more colourful and nothing more. I took my c8 to a wedding yesterday and took some pictures. I was disappointed in the pictures. The grains in them are worse than I have ever seen.. Note also that I tried using the camon c8 to upload this pictures but I kept getting the low memory notification on chrome and Firefox. The last phone that gave me such issues while uploading pix on the Web was tecno n3 which was my first Android phone. Since then I have used several 1gb Android phones without this issue happening

Well if you are into graphic designing u will bliv with me that when u zoom on a pic taken with Camon Camera, its nothing different from that of Hot Note, it will show you tiny fragments of the photo, an evidence of poor resolution/Low DPI.

Do the same Zoom on A pic taken with Motorola Droid razr or samsung Note 1,2,3 or blackberry z10, z30 which are all 8megapixels and you'll see they are even.better

Did I not say this before? You don't have to be a camera nerd to observe that the Camon c8 camera is poor. So so overhyped. I own this phone and I know what am saying

He inferred I am raising issues that I could easily have solved because I am being myopic. Ironically, I have asked him to point out the issues which he was referring to and how he could have solved them if he were me. I am still waiting for his response. The wps was a software which someone suggested could act as a workaround to the multitasking problem since it is capable of retaining data even when it is forced close by the Camon c8 multi tasking problem. I may not have known since I had not personally used the software myself. I also brought up the bbm issue because normally,, bbm remains active on notification bar whenever you are on bbm, to get instant messages... That was how bbm is made to work. But with the tecno Camon c8 OS, bbm is closed by the multi tasking problem. Hence, you have to keep opening bbm every now and then. So I throw this problem to you since you said It's something I could have easily solved and that am being myopic.. So please, suggest a solution which is plausible. Please don't tell me to keep on starting the software every now and then because that's not a solution.

Well where I see the problem is from DEVELOPER. The tecno c8 developer did a very rubbish work he didn't even test very well he just made the mistake nd no one noticed,,, am hoping nd believing that Tecno will fix this problem In Jesus... Cos all I can do now is hope in them.....

I remember when I was raising this issues some guys were insulting me and calling me a liar. It got so bad that an admin of this site even banned me from making posts on nairaland for some days for expressing my experience from the usage of Camon c8, I never for once attempted to rubbish the tecno canon c8 because as far as I am concerned, I don't have to rubbish the phone,. The phone has already been rubbished by the manufacturer and the software developer who didn't take out time to test the performance of what they made before releasing it to us, simply because we are Africans and with us, any rubbish is acceptable. I never knew that freedom of expression is a crime on nairaland. I won't be surprised if I get suspended again and in fact I don't BLOODY CARE. BTW, for those who are over hyping the camera of the Camon c8, have you tried zooming in the pictures to realize how grainy and poor the picture quality is? I did a camera comparison between my tecno Camon C8 of 13mp and Tecno H7 of 8mp, in both bright daylight and dimly lit room, I can boldly tell you that Tecno H7 camera outperforms the overhyped Camon c8. The h7 pictures were rarely grainy even when zoomed in. Tecno merely used cool texture saturation and effects to make us think the camera is superb. Anyone who can lay hands on the h7 and Camon c8 should test and see what am saying

What problem are you referring to in particular if you are saying that you were not referring to the multitasking problem, because the last time I checked, the issues I raised are all borne out of the multitasking problem on the phone, which can't be solved by users just as you have agreed. So why not be specific instead of being too quick to unnecessarily insult me without showing any sense in your criticism. So please do well to show me those 'simple problems' which according to you I can solve

Upload your "cached background process" that's what handle multitasking...
Go to settings, Apps, Running, then at the top there is an icon like processor click on it the you will see all "cached background processes" on that page tell us if you have more than 10 cached background process,
make sure you are running up to 16 apps

on my Y4 I can see more than 15 app there which mean those app can resume when they are minimise

On my Y4
I did a practical test i see that apps that have cached background process resumes
I now stop one of them, I went back to the minimised app which u will see on C8 too its starts afresh
This is what happens on C8 the phone does not save cache it cleans it once u minimised the app...

Your previous upload showed u minimized 16 app. Those app will only start afresh except that app is still running the cached background process

This is practical everyone can also try it use another phone to see

256MB is under utilized here
786MB is what we actually get from this phone
which makes cached background process close.. Resulting to poor multitasking...
Tecno should send us update to fix this...

I followed your instructions while running 30 apps simultaneously, based on the minimized app screenshot posted by me. But when I checked my ram and cached background process, this was what I got, right there before my eyes, as I was about taking screenshot, about 3 processes disappeared, meaning that the apps were closed by the ram manager.... I am beginning to think that tecno deliberately made this ram manager because they are trying to cover up some hidden truth about the actual spec of this phone which is. Seems the ram manager is there to close apps to avoid the processor from going burst. No wonder they made the phone so unrootable. Having a 1gig ram on papers when the phone doesn't really perform to that capacity is misleading. I would like to see a situation where this phone is subjected to rigorous tests to determine if it meets acceptable standards because it seems tecno played a fast one on us with this phone whose spec is only visible on papers and not in reality

OK thanks brother. I just tried the wps office, although It closed after I minimised the app and started asphalt, when I went back to the WPS, it prompted me that the app closed unexpectedly and asked me if I wanted to recover the unsaved document. It was able to recover it. The bottom line here now is that what is that thing that forces apps to close when minimised even when there is enough ram still available.. I think that is the question tecno has to ask itself and work on. I am suspecting that the task killer app is highly been hyperactive and killing tasks unnecessarily. Have you guys noticed that even bbm which is made to run on notification also gets killed too?

When you minimize an app and wants to revisit it, clicking on the app from the minimized app bar would open it where you stopped. Except you swipe or click the ❎ sign which would close the app. I just tried what you complained about and did cm n't start allover again.

Imagine this....you are using the Tecno camon C8 to type some documents and you have gone very very far in the typing, then a message comes into your phone, you switched over to the message to read it, after reading, you now switched over to the document you were typing only to discover that the app you are using to type the document has restarted and all your document typed so far has disappeared leaving you to start afresh how would you feel? ...... That's what this Tecno Camon C8 has just done to me. I feel like SMASHING this phone on the floor. I can't believe I used my hard earned money to buy this poorly packaged rubbish from the stables of tecno.

Hurrey pals, I think I have just achieved a step in the direction of rooting this camon c8 by confirming that the bootloader is locked. If you know about adb and fastboot, please install the software and drivers on your pc and boot into fastboot then connect your phone and type this command..... fastboot oem unlock..... You will get the screen below... I couldn't continue with my own process because I was late for work, my lappy battery was low and I had not backed up my data. Note that doing this will wipe your phone clean to factory reset. I think after doing this, the one click root tools should be able to work or one should be able to install super su update zip from recovery to root this phone. Honestly I really don't care if I end up bricking this phone while trying because it is almost useless to me with the poor multi tasking.

I would have preferred tecno made the camon c8 run on a non customised Lollipop OS because the developer who tweaked the Lollipop os for the camon c8 deserved to be jailed for life for such an awful job . I haven't used a poorer android in my life. I still maintain that my first Android phone, tecno n3 with 256mb performed far far better than this phone in terms of multi tasking

. Bro, thanks for corroborating my observations. The fact remains that I am not trading insult with the guy. He is the only one out there trading insults with himself.. All I have done is to give assessment with facts and also prove to the other guy who bluntly called me a liar that don't go about posting unverified posts for public viewing. The app is not meant to reopen except only when your ram is exhausted. Android is meant to function just like Windows with multitasking. So when android apps which are minimised get shut down, it means that the ram os either inadequate or the rom is poorly optimised like in the case of tecno Camon C8.... Those who use the phone will understand what am saying....
