Politics / Who Is The Man, Sesi Whingan? The Profile Of A Quintessential Philanthropist by macdanpets(m): 9:03am On Sep 11, 2020
Who is the man, Sesi Whingan? The profile of a quintessential Philanthropist.

By Dansu Peter

Not too many heard of Prince Sesi Whingan until his passion for humanitarian services propelled him to begin a life as a Philanthropist after successful excellent spells in both public and private careers as a Journalist, civil servant, property development consultant and the Managing Director of renown property firm, Pogs Luxury, Lagos.

Sesi, despite his relatively young age has since impacted not just in lives of so many individuals but some communities in Badagry. His Philanthropic gestures have resulted in remodeling lives of many youths, aged and widows in Badagry and beyond, through a foundation he established and christened, Sesi Whingan Foundation. No wonder many described him as a new breed of a rare quintessential future leader from Badagry corridor.

Born into the royal Family of Maseno in Ikoga Zebbe in Badagry Local Government of Lagos State in 80s, Prince Sesi started his primary and secondary education at St. Benedette Nursery and Primary school and Oba community High School both in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital between in 1990 and 2002.

He graduated in 2009 from the prestigious Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye in Ogun State, where he bagged his First Degree Certificate in Mass Communications. The overzealous young chap later obtained his MBA certification in the United Kingdom, from the renowned Anglia Ruskin University.

Before rising to the coveted positions he currently occupy as the Managing Director of Fogs Luxury, and the Regional Manager and Partner of FAB Pharmaceutical Nigeria Limited; Sesi Whingan worked as an Administrative Officer at Nsi Atai Local Government in Akwa - Ibom State, the same local government he had his compulsory National Youths Service Scheme, the NYSC, until 2011 after he graduated. Before then, he worked at Paramount FM radio station and Gateway Mirror between 2003 and 2008 as article writer, correspondent, and Assistant Scripts Editor respectively.

Sesi later delved into the business world of property development and consultancy, simultaneously while working in private firm.

Having been successful entrepreneur, Sesi's hunger for humanitarian services and social responsibility, propelled him to establish a foundation in 2017 which he named Sesi Whingan Foundation. A Non-Governmental Organization that has brought soccour to many, especially the youths, aged, the downtrodden and less privileged in Badagry.

Since inception, Sesi Whingan Foundation has embarked on the following social responsibilities among others; distribution of cash and food items to the aged, widows and less-privileged within Badagry, rehabilitation of Agric Road and other roads in Ikoga Zebbe, distribution of cash and other incentives to community and religious leaders; both Christians and Muslims, empowerment of some market women to boost their trade.

Sesi's name become more a household name, especially during the ravaging Covid-19 pandemic, where his foundation distributed food items and cash worth millions of naira across the length and breadth of Badagry Federation, to cushion the effect of the pandemic.

The humanitarian gestures by Sesi torched so many lives in Olorunda LCDA, Badagry West and Central, at a time when many hardly fed due to the lockdown effects of Covid-19.

Sesi is a son to Chief Pius Whingan, a business mogul, a notable chieftain of All Progressives Congress, APC, and a former Supervisor of Agriculture in Badagry Local Government.

Politics / Osun 2018 Governorship Election: Ifa Oracle Picks Aregbesola's Successor by macdanpets(m): 4:11pm On Feb 07, 2018
Ifa priests, under the aegis of Traditional Religion Worshippers Association, Osun State, have disclosed that the successor to incumbent Governor Rauf Aregbesola in 2019 has been revealed to them through divination.

According to them, “Aregbesola’s successor is relatively unknown and he is not among the current popular politicians, who have indicated interest to govern the state.”

Speaking in Osogbo, a seasoned Ifa priest, Dr. Oluseyi Atanda, who is also the Secretary General of TRWASO, said that the next governor of Osun was revealed in the New Year 2018 Ifa divination for Osun State by the traditional religion worshippers association.

Atanda maintained that the divination, among others, would come to pass.

“Otua-sa is the Ifa corpus that brings message and the sacrifice was observed immediately after the Ifa consultation for the peace and harmony of the State of Osun, her citizenry and Nigeria as a whole; the pacification is being carried out and sponsored by Osun State TRWASO,” he said.

Atanda, who did not name the purported successor to Aregbesola, noted that the role of Ifa was important in the administration of a state, adding that this was why the Ifa oracle revealed to its priests so many things that would happen in the future.

The Ifa priest, who is also the Ajana Awo of Osogbo and the Coordinator of HATTAF International (Ajo Aboruboye Agbaye), advised political parties and the state government “to adhere strictly to the voice of women as the September 22 governorship election draws nearer.”

He said so many divinations made last year in the state came to pass, stressing that Ifa revealed last year that there would be division among political parties and prominent politicians in the state and the divinations were currently manifesting.

Atanda, however, advised governments in the South West part of the country to ensure that Yoruba language did not go into extinction.

The priest said Yoruba language should be made compulsory in both public and private schools to enable the children to understand and speak it always, with less emphasis on English language.

Politics / Blind Proph.who Predicted Apc's 2015 Victory,cabal Takeover, Drop 2019 Bombshell by macdanpets(m): 6:57am On Feb 07, 2018
The famous blind Prophet and General Overseer of the Mountain of Mercy (aka Ori-Oke Alaseyori Church) of Moniya area of Ibadan, Oyo State, Moses Muyideen Kasali, dropped a bombshell during the weekend, declaring that President Mohammadu Buhari would be defeated should he contest in the 2019 Presidential election.

Prophet Kasali was among the Men of God who had predicted Buhari’s presidency shortly before the 2015 Presidential poll.

Kasali had declared then that God was backing the emergence of Buhari as the nation’s leader because He knew that the retired general had a very good intention of cleaning up the mess created by his predecessors.

The prophet had, however, warned President Buhari to beware of sycophants and political jobbers “who are likely to hijack his government and render him incapacitated and unable to please God in the assignment the Almighty has given to him,” he said.

In a press release to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, the Prophet (who also predicted that the All Progressive Congress, a merger of other parties, would become a house divided against itself) warned that an attempt to rig the 2019 Presidential election by factions desperate for Buhari’s second term at the detriment of Nigerians would not only fail, but also bring ruin to those plotting it.

“The APC itself was founded on deception and insincerity. It is a pity that the party’s merger that produced the current leadership is largely composed of selfish men who became strange bedfellows,” Kasali said in a statement.

“The few ones who have genuine intentions to lead the nation like President Buhari have been overwhelmed by the bad heads. My candid advice for President Buhari is to heed the counsel of the wise and godly and retire to his home in Daura and perish the thought of re-contesting in 2019. I pray he would be wise enough to do this and allow Nigeria to have peace. If those who have constituted themselves as a cabal of this government make any untoward attempt to deploy state machinery to rig President Buhari into power in 2019… they will not only fail but would bring damnation on themselves and their families.”

Romance / Obasanjo's Son Who Wedded Against Mother's Wish Marriage Crashes In 6months by macdanpets(m): 7:55am On Feb 04, 2018
ABRAHAM Olujonwon Obasanjo, a son of former President Olusegun Obasanjo who defied mother's spiritual counseling not to have elaborate wedding marriage has crashed in less than six months into the matrimonial journey, News Proof understands

The former President's Son wedded to Tope Adebutu, a daughter of Chief Kessington Adebutu, the founder of the popular lotto firm called "Baba Ijebu"

The wedding which was held on May 13th, 2017 was shunned by his mother, Mrs. Taiwo Obasanjo who had earlier objected to the date of the wedding and it elaborate nature.

Fresh reports according to The Sun Newspaper has it that Olajuwon has since November ran out of the marriage since last year November to an unknow destination.

The marriage crash was confirmed by Mr. Taiwo Obasanjo in an interview with the Sun Newspaper. The Mother, however, denied knowledge of her son's whereabouts. The wife, according to Mrs. Obasanjo has also walked out of their matrimonial home and now lived her mother in Ikoyi.

Mrs. Obasanjo said strange thing began to befall the marriage when the mother-in-law demanded on the wedding to go to honeymoon with the wedded couple.

"...From the first day of the wedding, the mother of the girl said she wanted to go on honeymoon with my son and his wife, which I have never heard of in my whole life. Whether I am lying my son can testify about that. The mother insisted that she must go on a honeymoon. I wasn’t there, but I heard that later. My son defied my advice and the advice of the living God because I didn’t go soliciting for prophecy for him. The one about the wedding came on its own. I never went to anybody to kneel down and asked to be prayed for. This message came voluntarily. For spiritual messages you don’t go soliciting, that means there are powerful truths behind it" Mrs. Obasanjo told Sunday Sun in the interview.

Mrs. Obasanjo had opposed the wedding of her son, Olujonwon to Tope Adebutu, daughter of Chief Kessington Adebutu on the grounds of the choice of the date picked for the event.

She had claimed that Olunjowon who turns 34 on June 1, 2017, according to a prophecy, was forbidden from celebrating any elaborate wedding until he clocks 34.

Mrs. Obasanjo in a letter dated April 28, 2017 to the Prelate, Methodist Church of Nigeria, His Eminence Dr, Samuel C.K Uche had called on the church to probe what she described as “questionable, suspicious and rigidity of the 11th and 13th of May, 2017 chosen for the wedding of my son, Abraham Olujonwon to Tope Adebutu of Sir Kessington Adebutu”.

She claimed to have met with Mrs. Adebutu and her daughter on three occasions in October 2016 to inform them about the prophecy which forbade her son from celebrating an elaborate wedding until he attains the age of 34.

“In the month of October 2016, thrice I went to see Mary Dacosta and her daughter, Tope Adebutu at home to hold meetings with them and with respect I told them about the prophecy given to me on three occasions two to three years back, that any time Olujowon wants to get married, it should be done quietly with no noise, that elaborate wedding should be done after he turns 34 on the 1st of June… I was ridiculed by Rosemary Dacosta and her daughter, saying there is nothing I can do, that the wedding would go on before 1st of June, 2017,” she claimed.

Mrs. Obasanjo also claimed to have equally appealed to Chief Adebutu in January over the issue without any success.

Politics / Oyinlola Resigns From Buhari's Govt As 7 APC Govs,3 Pdp's Storm Abuja For OBJ CN by macdanpets(m): 5:50am On Jan 31, 2018
Baring last minutes change, the former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola will today resign as the Chairman of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) as all seems set for the unveiling today of former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CN), News Proof has learned reliably

Oyinlola is a close ally of Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo and has been appointed as the national coordinator of the third force championing by the former President. He was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari few month ago to lead as the Chairman of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

Obasanjo broke the news of the coalition in a long “special statement” in which he lashed the President Muhammau Buhari administration.

According to The Nation, of the 36 governors, 10 and some senators are said to have indicated interest in being part of the CN.

Seven governors are believed to be of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and three Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) members.

Others who are said to be part of the formation of CN are a former National Security Adviser, some ex-governors, such as Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke and former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido and retired Generals, among others.

The launch of CN Movement will hold this morning at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre.

Former Osun State Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola is said to be the coordinator.

Oyinlola’s Asokoro Quarters, Abuja home was a beehive of activities yesterday, with politicians flocking the place.

It was gathered that Oyinlola is set to resign his appointment as the chairman of the National Identity Management Commission(NIMC) to enable him take up the role of coordinating the coalition.

Although the programme for the launch was already in the public domain yesterday, the list of attendees was kept under wraps.

The programme, however, stated the mission of the CN as follows:

“The Coalition for Nigeria Movement is a movement that seeks to promote and ensure socio-economic development, improvement, growth, social justice, egalitarianism, cohesion, cooperation, equity, equality of opportunity, transparency, societal order, rule of law, human security and human rights leading to National Unity, good governance and general well-being and the welfare of all citizens and inhabitants of Nigeria.”

A source, who spoke in confidence with our correspondent, said: “As you can see, we are set for the formal launch of the CN Movement on Wednesday in Abuja.

“Our membership is open to all Nigerian citizens of 18 years and above. It is a common platform to rescue this nation from its challenges.

“Shortly after the launch, we will have interim officers and we will immediately start meeting with people and groups of like minds nationwide on the way forward for this country. We will traverse the length and breadth of this country to ‘change the change’ at hand.”

Responding to a question, the source added: “So far, we have about 10 governors on our side, a former National Security Adviser, some ex-governors(military and civilian), retired Generals, ex-ministers, Senators, members of the House of Representatives, and some civil society organisations.

“Others already collaborating with the CN include a former National Security Adviser, some ex-governors like Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Donald Duke and Sule Lamido, a former Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana and other like minds. We will release the list in the fullness of time.”

Asked if Obasanjo will attend the ceremony, the source replied: “I cannot be categorical if ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo will attend the inauguration but we are hopeful that he might be able to finish his assignment at the AU Secretariat to join us.”

The source also said: “Ex-Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola will coordinate. All things being equal, he might resign his appointment as the chairman of NIMC on Wednesday to face the new task ahead.”

Politics / 2019: Buhari,tinubu Groups Battle Over El-rufai, Shettima As APC Candidate by macdanpets(m): 1:59pm On Jan 29, 2018
A battle of the bigwig within ranks the ruling All Progressives Congressive, APC loyal to President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has begun following a strongly worded letter, written by former President Olusegun Obasanjo to President, News Proof has learned reliably

According to Sources, the All Progressives Congress has retreated to the boardroom, in search of an acceptable presidential candidate, come 2019.

A top source within the party according to The Point revealed to at the weekend that two governors – Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna, and Kashim Shettima of Borno – were now on the radar of the party.

A source within the party disclosed that Kaduna’s Nasir El-Rufai and Borno’s Kassim Shettima were being propped up by two diametrically opposed interest groups within the party.

“While the Buharists within the party may have settled for El-Rufai in case the President declines to go in 2019, the Tinubu Team are all for Shettima,” he said.

The source, who belongs to the Tinubu Team, said his group was in support of the Borno governor because he was less controversial and dogged, having weathered the storm of the Boko Haram insurgency, adding that he was also easily sellable in the South West.

He noted that Shettima was once a lecturer at the University of Ibadan, Oyo State, and could speak the Yoruba language, which would be a great political asset.

A visit, last year, by Tinubu to Borno State to commission many projects executed by the Shettima administration, was described by top sources in the party as a clear indication that the governor was “being courted for a higher calling.”

It was, however, learnt that those who were rooting for El-Rufai were doing so mainly because Buhari would, any day, prefer the Kaduna governor as a successor. Besides, the Kaduna governor reportedly has some groups within the party, who are working for him, especially in the northern areas.

Obasanjo, in his letter entitled, “The Way Out,” had berated the almost three years’ administration of Buhari, faulting the President over the poor state of the economy and Federal Government’s inability to halt the wanton killings by suspected Fulani herdsmen in many states of the Federation.

The former president, as a result, asked Buhari to resist the temptation of seeking re-election next year, but retire home and become a statesman.

Though both the Federal Government and the ruling APC had replied OBJ, suggesting that the ex-president did not have a full grasp of events before writing his letter, party sources described the responses as mere grandstanding.

“We know this is a clear red card that can result in an electoral loss if we choose to re-present Buhari for another tenure,” an impeccable top source within the party disclosed.

A source particularly disclosed that last week’s visit of the National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and a former party chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, to President Buhari, was only a prelude to what might be tabled before the President at a special stakeholders’ meeting of the party, to be held soon before its national convention.

The source, who opted for anonymity, owing to the sensitivity of the issue, said, “What Tinubu and Akande went to discuss with the President was the need for the party to fix an early date for its convention as against a June date being canvassed by some interest groups. In the course of the chat, they asked him to think critically and consult widely on the import of Obasanjo’s letter and act according to his conscience.

“But the President is not a kid; he has seen the direction of the wind within the party and he is not such a person who will do any abracadabra or break up the party to satisfy his personal interest. He may just have chosen to keep silent because any immediate statement on his plan for 2019 may heat up the system. His close aides have assured us that he will do the needful during the party’s convention.”

Politics / Shuaibu Ado Dansudu: North Will Rule Nigeria Till 2031, South Wake Up From Dream by macdanpets(m): 8:07am On Jan 28, 2018
The incessant bloodletting allegedly by Fulani herdsmen is one issue that has engaged the attention of Nigerians for some weeks now. Alhaji Shuaibu Ado Dansudu, National President, Arewa United Consultative Forum, (AUCF), in this interview maintains that except discreet and unbiased investigations are carried out into these killings, Nigerians may not be able to get the real identities of those behind the killings. He also speaks on President Muhammadu Buhari vis-à-vis his second term ambition, former Vice President Atiku and the 2019 presidential election.

It is becoming clearer that President Muhammadu Buhari is getting ready for re-election in 2019. What do you think about this?

In my opinion, it is a big mistake for the President to contemplate running again. But I know Buhari has a lot of people around him pushing him to seek re-election because of their selfish interest Buhari should know that the election of 2015 will be different from 2019 for some reasons. Look at what happened after his election in 2015, Buhari fell sick due to the rigour of his electioneering campaign. He should think about his health and the fact that age is no longer on his side. I will advise the president to step aside and allow someone else to carry on. He should consider himself as one of the fathers of the nation. Nelson Mandela, after fighting for freedom for so many years during which he was jailed, came out, contested, won and left the stage voluntarily after just a single term. That singular show of selflessness earned him accolades across the world. The same thing happened in the case of Obasanjo after Murtala’s death. He stood on Murtala’s promise and handed over to a democratically elected government. So, Obasanjo earned himself the respect of many Nigerians at the time and I believe that played a major role in his return as a democratically elected President in 1999. The same thing with Abubakar Abdulsalami, who upon Abacha’s death, promised to hand over in nine months, he did and won the respect of the entire world.

Those leaders had the power to insist on carrying on, but they chose to quit when the ovation was loudest. They trudged the path of honour unlike former President Goodluck Jonathan, who we had expected would leave the stage after completing Yar’Adua’s tenure. Had Jonathan followed that path of honour, Nigerians would have brought him back at a time like this, and he would have probably by now, become a sought-after national hero. So, my advice for Buhari is to give way and allow a new person to carry on. Buhari has tried quite alright especially by fighting insurgency. But Nigeria is still battling with serious crisis. His government has been able to battle Boko Haram insurgents but there is still another form of insurgency, a silent Boko Haram ravaging the country, that is, hunger and poverty. Nigerians are hungry and are dying from treatable diseases due to high poverty rate in the country. Eighty percent of patients in our hospitals are suffering from poverty-induced hypertension.

You were known as a staunch supporter of Buhari before his election in 2015. It is very surprising to hear you calling for his retirement now when he has the constitutional right to seek re-election. What informed this volte-face?

I still remain a staunch supporter of the President even up till tomorrow. I am only giving him this piece of advice because of the love I have for him. Why I have come out to say this is because of the people pushing Buhari. It is very disturbing to know that the same set of people begging him to go ahead are the ones causing problems for his government. I have to criticize him; as an activist, I don’t have permanent friends neither do I have permanent enemies. If you do well I will say it and if you fail to perform up to expectations, I will not hide it. We are not supporting any political party; our own is to watch what everybody is doing and comment appropriately. All we do is in the interest of Nigeria.

Is it then safe to say that you are withdrawing your support from Buhari simply because he has not been able to fight the silent Boko Haram; or do you have other grouse about him?

The issue of silent Boko Haram is one major issue that we can’t just gloss over. You can’t take the fact from him that Buhari is an honest and straight forward man. He is incorruptible but we are criticising him because of the people he surrounds himself with. Most of them are not supporting what Mr. President is doing. In fact, they are the ones misleading him. Even his wife confirmed this when she said some of the people who surround him are undermining him.

Many have raised the alarm that the Buhari government is being derailed. Are you not disturbed that the President has failed to yield to this outcry?

That is the major problem Buhari has. But then Nigerians seem to be making mistake about Buhari now. We seem to have forgotten that the Buhari we are dealing with now is not the same Buhari we knew in the past. Buhari, as he is now, has lost three things: one, he is no longer a soldier. Secondly, he is Buhari without Idiagbon; and thirdly, Buhari is no longer the youthful Buhari we used to know. Age is no longer on his side and so he can no longer re-enact those traits and qualities he was known for. These factors largely inform the criticisms trailing his government.

Look at what is happening now in Nigeria, killings here and there, which I will blame on politicians. The killings, which they are accusing Fulani herdsmen of being responsible for is a dangerous signal for the country. Many politicians are hiding under this situation to settle political scores with their opponents and will then turn around and blame it on Fulani herdsmen. The best way to get to the root of this killing spree is to give appropriate security apparatus freedom to carry out discreet investigation without interference from any quarters. We won’t be able to unmask those behind this bloodletting if we don’t allow an unbiased investigation. Anybody can disguise as a Fulani person to perpetrate evil once he is able to speak the language, which can be easily learned and the person can dress like the Fulani. The Fulani we are talking about have a lot at stake. These people have billions of investments in the cows that they go about with, so how will they resort to attacking and killing people when they are aware that they have a lot to lose if the action boomerangs. Don’t forget that the Fulani who are accused of being behind the killings are also being killed. Unfortunately, nobody is saying anything about this. Fulani men, women, and their children are getting killed in their numbers even without the media saying anything. It is very unfortunate we find ourselves in this sorry state. I see these killings largely as political. And this method of killing and diverting attention started during the Second World War when Russia took a non-committal stance during the war. Russia vowed not to join the war against Hitler but what did the Western world do? They painted their jet fighter as if it was Hitler’s with flag and attacked Russia. Then Russia thought she had been attacked by Hitler’s force and was forced to join the war against Hitler. I strongly believe this is exactly what we are experiencing in Nigeria now. Don’t forget that there was a serious hostility between the Tiv and Jukum people of Benue and Taraba states for some years. The fight was fought with sophisticated weapons as at that period. Where are the weapons now? Have the fighters surrendered their weapons? Where are the weapons kept? These weapons are still there. We are even suspecting that these killings may have connection with the previous hostility between these people.

Again the National Assembly is not doing its work very well in securing this country. There is nowhere in the world where component units or states are allowed to have their local security outfit or vigilante groups and allowed to carry sophisticated weapons as we have in some states in Nigeria now. Look at the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC which came into existence several years ago. Operatives of the corps have not been allowed to carry weapons. So why will a state governor set up a local security outfit and equip them with sophisticated weapons? Governors who do this have questions to answer. The National Assembly needs to query such governors. These are pointers to the fact that politicians are behind these killings we are witnessing.

The President was widely reported to have said that he would be president for everybody while he was being inaugurated. But there have been complaints of nepotism ad marginalization against him. Don’t you see this as another reason for the anger in the land?

As I said earlier Buhari, cannot do it alone. Most of those he surrounds himself with are not helping in achieving his dreams for Nigeria. The truth of the matter is that Buhari is trying to carry everybody along but the people around him keep disappointing him. Some of them are taking advantage of the fact that the man is advanced in age to mismanage his government. There is a need for him to reshuffle his cabinet and I believe he must be fast about this. The people surrounding him are the problem, so they should allow him to go and rest. Besides, some people who have aspiration to rule this country are also fighting him underground.

Despite the growing call on Buhari to leave after serving out his first term, Mr. President still appears to be the favourite candidate for the ruling party in 2019. In view of this, what will be your advice for APC?

To be honest with you, Buhari still has about 70 percent advantage to win in 2019 but it depends on the leadership of the party particularly the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. The party leadership needs to think properly for the next election and ignore those pushing Buhari to run again. They should allow another person to fly the party’s flag in 2019. If not, I am afraid, PDP may take over again. What made the PDP to lose the election in 2015 in the first place was because Jonathan re-contested after serving out Yar’Adua’s tenure. APC would not have won if Jonathan did not re-contest. According to the zoning arrangement then, it was not the turn of the South at the time he attempted to re-contest. And I want to tell you categorically that the Southerners should forget coming to power after eight years, I mean in 2023 when the North would have served out two terms. Any Southerner dreaming to take over power in 2023 should better wake up. After eight years we will still rule again because the Southerners betrayed the zoning agreement after Obasanjo. Obasanjo ruled for complete eight years, Yar’Adua ruled for two years and Jonathan, rather than allow a northerner to take over, having completed Yar’Adua’s tenure re-contested and ruled for another four years. And he even made the attempt to elongate his tenure by re-contesting again in 2015. So for that reason, the North will rule for additional six or eight years to balance the arrangement. So the South should blame Jonathan.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is gearing up for 2019. Do you see him as a threat or an alternative to Buhari?

I don’t see Atiku as a threat to anybody. He was a vice president for eight years and I can’t really see anything spectacular he did for Nigeria as a nation. Perhaps, he did something spectacular for them in Adamawa or the North east geopolitical zone, I can’t really say this is a spectacular thing he has done for Nigeria. So I don’t see him as a threat to anybody. I will advise him too to go and rest and stop wasting his time.

Politics / 2019: NEVER Again Will I Beg Obasanjo - Atiku, In Talks To Emerge PDP Consensus by macdanpets(m): 12:46pm On Dec 25, 2017
As debates progress on the weight of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar in the Peoples Democratic Party, and his chances in the 2019 elections, the former VP has ruled out going to beg for the support of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, saying making peace with the ex-President is more of an exercise in futility.

The Director-General, Atiku Support Group, Mr. Mark Wosi, who disclosed the ex-VP’s position, while speaking to our correspondent in Yola, Adamawa State, said Atiku had finally decided not to beg for Obasanjo’s support any longer, since it was clear that the former president would not budge.

Wosi said, “Atiku believes the support of Obasanjo and, indeed, all Nigerians, are to be desired by anybody aspiring to govern the country. That is why he feels there is no need going to beg him over an offence that Obasanjo has never disclosed.

“So, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and everyone here believe that sending emissaries to Obasanjo, who is not willing to change his mind, will only amount to an exercise in futility. I support the need for my principal to mend fences with his former boss; but you see, the problem here is not in the move for reconciliation, but in Obasanjo’s disposition. I can tell you, we are dealing with a vindictive man.”

“My principal is no longer interested in sending emissaries to former President Olusegun Obasanjo or begging him, to become the President of Nigeria. It is only God and Nigerians that will determine Atiku’s fate, not an individual,” Wosi added.

Though the ex VP’s aide said nobody was sure of why Obasanjo had sworn by Jove that Atiku would never be president, some political sources, however, traced the disagreement between the two politicians to 2003, when Obasanjo was warming up to go for a second term.

A source, who is very close to former President Obasanjo but pleaded to be anonymous, recounted the story to our correspondent, saying, “To the president’s shock, he (Atiku), at that time, started making moves, within the Peoples Democratic Party, to contest against Obasanjo at the presidential primary election. This clear act of disloyalty caused ‘malaria’ for then President Obasanjo, to the extent that the First Lady, Stella (now late), had to be sent to Atiku to plead with him to have a re-think.

“To the surprise of Baba (as Obasanjo was called in Aso Rock circles then), Atiku had divided the Governors’ Forum, to the extent that he was already controlling 70 per cent of the governors; and as you know, as far as the presidential primary poll was concerned, the governors held the yam and the knife. They were in control of virtually all delegates from their respective states.”

The source also noted that the fact that a VP could dare his boss in that fashion was capable of establishing a lifetime enmity.

“This is because a VP that seeks to unseat you through democratic means, and take your position, can equally poison you to death,” he summed.

But Wosi, Atiku’s aide, shared a different view. He said the rumour that Atiku plotted to contest against Obasanjo in the 2003 PDP primary was long resolved, even before the primary election, as the then VP denied the allegation in its entirety.

“But it is clear from Obasanjo’s body language that he does not want Atiku as President because the latter foiled his third term ambition way back in 2006, because Atiku believed that such a constitution amendment would lead to dictatorship and a self-perpetuated presidency,” he averred.

But another aide of ex-VP Atiku has a different perception on the real cause of the seeming irresolvable tiff between Obasanjo and his principal.

The aide, Dr. Umar Ardo, a former Special Adviser to Atiku on Strategy and Political Matters, who may have fallen out with the former VP, said the crisis between the two politicians “transcends the need for sending emissaries to Obasanjo to forgive Atiku.”

“Obasanjo’s problem with Atiku is not personal, it’s only based on principles. It has to do with certain values. The only thing for Atiku to do is to meet those values, and here, we are talking about having the right approach to Nigeria and its people,” Ardo said, not wanting to make clarifications.

ATIKU’S ACCOUNT

While political pundits have continued to wonder why Obasanjo finds it difficult to forgive the many “sins” of his former deputy, some observers of Nigeria’s political sphere still share Wosi’s claim that Atiku’s ‘crime’ against his former boss was the role he played during the constitutional amendment exercise carried out under the Obasanjo regime, where he stood against the alleged third term agenda of his boss.

When asked why he and Obasanjo were at loggerheads towards the end of their tenure, Atiku himself had told newsmen, “My offence was that I disagreed with him on the amendment of the constitution to remove tenure/term limits or what was popularly called ‘the third term agenda’. In fact, he sent the then Attorney-General and Prof. Jerry Gana to my office to bring the draft amendments to the constitution. After going through (them), I found out that tenure limits had been removed. In other words, he could be President for life.

“I then asked them that ‘if I send you to the President, can you deliver this message?’ They said yes. I said ‘go and tell him I will not support it and (I) will fight it’.”

PAST EFFORTS AT RECONCILIATION

But having realised his ‘error’, Atiku had, in the past, made several attempts at ensuring that Obasanjo forgave ‘his many sins’.

In November, 2014, during the build-up to the 2015 general elections, Atiku, in company with the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, had met with Obasanjo in his Abeokuta home, where they apparently pleaded with him on the possibility of an Atiku presidency on the platform of the party.

Then, the Tinubu-led emissary to Obasanjo was thickened with the involvement of a former Minister of Education, Prof. Babalola Borisade (now late) and Elder Oyewole Fasawe, who were known to be very close to the former president, as well as Maxwell Gidado, Atiku’s Campaign Legal Officer.

Shortly after Atiku defected from the ruling APC to the PDP, former President Goodluck Jonathan had also advised the Wakili Adamawa (as Atiku is fondly called) to seek reconciliation with Obasanjo should his dream of becoming Nigeria’s president be realisable.

While acknowledging Obasanjo’s political sagacity as necessary for Atiku’s success in 2019, Jonathan insisted that the Turaki Adamawa (as Atiku is also called) would have to reach out to “our boss, Baba OBJ: the boss of all

bosses.”

“We’ve all learnt at different times that you ignore OBJ to your own peril. OBJ has the magic wand, respected at home and abroad,” Jonathan said.

Analysts are of the opinion that ex-President Jonathan, who many believed was fostered by Obasanjo to become Nigeria’s president during the 2011 general elections, might have spoken the truth and said it all, having suffered a deadly political blow, losing out in his bid to clinch a second term in office “due to the rift between him and Obasanjo.”

They are also of the opinion that finding the appropriate emissaries to beg Obasanjo and obtain his forgiveness is the second leg in Abubakar Atiku’s political destiny, since his re-defection to the PDP, was also part of Jonathan’s recommendation.

In apparent reaction to ex-president Jonathan’s advice, however, Atiku’s media spokesman, Mazi Paul Ibe, had promised that the former VP would not hesitate to work out meeting Obasanjo and begging for his pardon.

RECENT EFFORTS AT RECONCILIATION

The latest effort at reconciling Obasanjo and Atiku came barely three months ago; precisely in October, this year, when a former Chairman, PDP Caretaker Committee, Ahmed Makarfi, visited Obasanjo at his Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State. Though journalists were prevented from having access to the venue of the meeting, sources close to the meeting told our correspondent that Markarfi spoke to the former president on how he could assist in rebuilding the party with the possibility of Atiku’s return.

Obasanjo was, however, said to have turned down the request on the ground that he was long done with PDP.

Also, The Point reliably gathered that members of the Action Democratic Party, a political party believed to have been sponsored by Atiku, led by Chief Alani Bankole, father of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, visited Obasanjo in his Abeokuta home with the possibility of getting his assistance and advice.

The former president allegedly told the visiting team in plain language that he would only support their political party provided they would not give Atiku the presidential ticket of their party.

But speaking in an interview with our correspondent in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, Chairperson of the Atiku Abubakar Youths Movement, Hajia Halima Oba, said her principal would not hesitate to meet with Obasanjo again and still plead for forgiveness.

Oba, who emphasised that Atiku had pleaded for forgiveness from Obasanjo in the past, maintained that her principal was ready to go the extra mile towards ensuring “Obasanjo is placated.”

‘ATIKU DOESN’T NEED OBJ’S FORGIVENESS’

But the Acting Chairman of the Labour Party in Ogun State, Comrade Abayomi Arabambi, maintained a different stance.

Arabambi, who spoke with our correspondent on the phone, said Atiku did not need the

forgiveness of Obasanjo to win an election in Nigeria.

While maintaining that former President Obasanjo was not the only one that would vote Atiku into power, Arabambi lamented that Nigerians were seriously groaning under economic hardship foisted on them by the Muhammadu Buhari-led APC government, which Obasanjo seriously campaigned for during the build-up to the 2015 presidential election.

EX-VP TARGETS CONSENSUS CANDIDATURE

Already, the ex-VP, encouraged by the warm reception accorded him at the recent Convention of the PDP, is reportedly talking to other presidential aspirants in the party, with a view to getting them stand down, so he can emerge a consensus candidate.

Sources at the ASG, his campaign headquarters, revealed that he had instituted committees, under him, to negotiate with other presidential hopefuls in the PDP, who include Malam Sule Lamido, and Makarfi, the immediate past chairman of the party.

Similarly, Atiku is said to have reached out to the camp of a former Governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Kwakwanso, an aggrieved APC chieftain believed to have finalised his move to defect to the PDP come next January.

“Contrary to insinuations, these gentlemen having presidential ambition have been receptive to Atiku, as he is not exerting influence on anybody; he is only laying his cards before them and

they all promised to give him the needed consideration. Soon, you will hear the good news that Atiku is the PDP consensus candidate,” the source, preferring anonymity, declared

Politics / 2019 EXCLUSIVE: Cold War Brews As Gov. Wike Dumps Fayose For Mimiko As PDP VP by macdanpets(m): 4:01pm On Dec 19, 2017
A cold war has reported ensued between the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose and his Rivers State counterpart, Nyesom Wike over who emerges as the Vice Presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ahead of the 2019 General Elections, News Proof has learned

The hostility according to inside sources who wished not to be named started shortly after the recent national convention of the party which saw Mr. Uche Secondus emerged as the PDP Chairman.

One of the sources revealed that Gov. Fayose has since been working assiduously in collaboration to his friend, Nyesom Wike for the former to emerge as the Vice Presidential candidate of the PDP. The discordant tune between the duo, News Proof learned ensued shortly after the national convention when Governor Wike was discovered to be hobnobbing with the former Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, who, an insider said was to ensure he (Mimiko) emerged as the PDP Vice Presidential Candidate.

Governor Fayose our reporter learned work assiduously to ensure the PDP National Chairman did not come to the southwest region. His calculation is that the zone will rather vie for the Vice Presidential slot

One of our sources said the PDP, no doubt has resolved to compensate the southwest region with the VP slot following the fallout in the last national convention, the plan which was seemingly working according to Fayose's.

Governor Wike, who is seen as the most powerful PDP governor, due to his financial capability, News Proof learned has also given his nod to the southwest to produce the VP to any Presidential candidate that will emerge from the north, but has been convinced by some powerful leaders within the party that the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose will not be marketable. Considering his abysmal performances in Ekiti and his many uncouth utterances.

Governor Olusegun Mimiko, is regarded as as a better sellable candidate than Fayose. "Mimiko is seen as more cerebral, calm and marketable compared to Fayose", a source said.

“The reaction of the southeast might also not be palatable as there is going to be a big fight by leaders of the zone who definitely will feel shortchanged after helping the ‘new Don’ from the South-south in achieving his aim of having the party in his kitty.

“The last option for the South-east will be to accept the Senate presidency which is still in the realm of dreams as no one is sure of how the states will vote in the parliamentary elections" a source said

Politics / 2019: Atiku In Limbo As PDP Search For Fresh Unblemished Presidential Candidate by macdanpets(m): 1:17pm On Dec 13, 2017
A Vice President of Nigeria who recently dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC for the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is no doubt in limbo as his new party has begun move to search for fresh and unblemished Presidential candidate ahead of 2019, News Proof has learned reliably

Atiku had last week announced his resignation from the APC to PDP, a move political watchers have termed as desperation to vie for the 2019 presidential election.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chiefs, according to The Nation newspaper are to raise a search panel for a credible presidential candidate, a source said yesterday.

A senior party official, who pleaded not to be named, said the party had decided to scout for a “sellable” candidate who can match President Muhammadu Buhari, who is believed to be interested in a second term.

“We have made mistakes in the past. We violated zoning and we paid dearly for it. We are considering going for a presidential candidate, who will withstand the predictable propaganda of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government. We want to get it right. If we want to win, we must get a better candidate; a candidate that is better than what the APC will offer because Nigerians will compare and contrast,” the source said.

According to the source, who pleaded not to be named, the party may be looking beyond the array of likely presidential aspirants who have started consultations and mobilisation of supporters, ahead of next year’s primary.

PDP presidential contenders include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Sokoto State Governor Attahiru Barafawa, former Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekarau, former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, former Kaduna State Governor Ahmed Makarfi, Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose and Gombe State Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo.

The source said: “There is no shortage of presidential aspirants in our party. But, one factor that will determine the selection of the flag bearer is his ability to win. We as a party want to win. Therefore, the opinion is that, while studying those already holding consultations on their presidential ambition, the door should be open for more people to come in.

The source said: “Many APC leaders are former leaders of the PDP. Thus, communication is easy. We did not offend ourselves. They were fighting Jonathan and he is no more in the saddle. We still meet and relate and the bond is not entirely severed.”

Among APC stalwarts being wooed, according to the source, is Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwakwanso.

However, despite his potential, Tambuwal’s limitation is that he is considered as a promising politician from a narrow political base and disputed formidability, although he had a seemingly big stature then as the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The source said: “There is no evidence of lack of amity between the PDP and Kwakwanso. Now that there is a division in Kano State APC, we are likely to succeed in our effort to encourage Kwakwanso to return. Kwakwanso actually wants to return, if we mount more pressure on him and convince him. But when he returns, he may have to fight for the ticket at the primary without any special concession given to him beyond the normal waiver.”

The presidential search team, it was gathered will be made up of experienced party leaders, “intellectual friends” of the PDP, founding fathers, National Assembly members, the governors and other party officials, who will consult widely and liaise with prominent leaders of opinion, including royal fathers, religious leaders, past leaders of government and other influential blocs in the society.

The source added: “For us in the PDP, it is a moment of sober reflection. We are facing the reality. It may not be easy to displace an incumbent. But, they defeated us. That has given us the courage that we can also defeat them.

“We need a new strategy. We must also make sacrifice to bounce back. To win, we must strategise, plan and execute our plans with dexterity. MKO Abiola was accepted by all the six regions. Somebody with that kind of antecedent can be honoured with the ticket to salvage Nigeria from the APC. He can come from the business world, diplomacy, and other sectors where he has made a name.

“The person must be clean; without any baggage and he must be knowledgeable and versatile. He must have adequate knowledge of how to turn the economy around. And you know, the first criterion is that he must be someone from the North because we have zoned the presidency to the North. The factor we are considering is the winning factor and the PDP family will not compromise this factor.”

Politics / 2019: "Tinubu Crying More The The Bereaved" - Okorocha Blasts Jagaban by macdanpets(m): 7:08am On Dec 11, 2017
Source:http://www.newsproof.org/2017/12/2019-tinubu-crying-more-the-bereaved.html

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu's comment on the decision of the APC governors to throw their weight behind the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 has been described as "crying more than the bereaved" by Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha.

According to Nigerian Tribune, Okorocha said it was wrong for Tinubu to fault the decision of the governors to support Buhari saying “this does not translate that there will be no party primaries or any other interested aspirant cannot contest.”

Okorocha who stated this in Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, after being conferred with the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters by the Senate of the Adekunle Ajasin University, wondered why Tinubu was “crying more than the bereaved” when governors alone cannot determine Buhari’s re-election as the party flagbearer

He said “the statement credited to our national leader came to me as a surprise, come to think of it, I never referred to him. I refer to the governors of Nigeria including the PDP and I said only one or two of them have not joined yet.

“Since I made the statement, no governor has said something contrary to what I said. I am surprised that Asiwaju will now be speaking for the governors.

“He looks like somebody crying more than the bereaved. I did not see the reason for the statement actually. But he commands my respect and I don’t want to join issue with the national leader of my party.”

The Imo State governor explained that “what I mentioned was for the governors and secondly what I said is support. The word I used is support, and that does not mean there will not be primaries.

“Governors can only contribute only 37 votes, we still have over 5,000 votes up there. What I was talking about were governors. I was not talking about other party members. Governors alone do not determine the flag -bearer of a party.”

Speaking on the exit of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar from APC to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Okorocha described the defection as a great loss to the party but said it will not affect the fortune of the party in the 2019 general election.

He said “I have taken a holistic view of our party; it is not the best because no matter how anybody thinks, Atiku carries some political weight. His leaving our party is not the best.

“But all said and done since he has forged ahead by going to another political party, we will make amends and his place will be filled up accordingly.”

Okorocha, however, denied that APC was jittery over the outcome of the PDP national convention held in Abuja over the weekend, but said “there is nothing to be jittery about the outcome of the PDP’s convention. We are very confident that our presidential candidate to be; President Muhammadu Buhari is up to the task.

“He has an impeccable track record that it would take an unusual presidential candidate of a rival political party to match him.

“This is the strength of our party, coupled with the fact that APC governors are performing, we are sure we will deliver 2019.”

Politics / Chibok Parents Identify Daughters In New Boko Haram Video; Watch The Video Here by macdanpets(m): 5:17am On Apr 14, 2016
Source: http://www.newspunch.org/2016/04/chibok-parents-identify-daughters-in_14.html

Three mothers of schoolgirls abducted from Chibok, Borno State on April 14, 2014 said they had identified their daughters in a video released by Islamist group Boko Haram, the first possible sighting of the girls since a video in May 2014.

Reuters reported that about 15 girls featured in the video released to local officials on Tuesday, saying they were from the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok and pleading with the Nigerian government to cooperate with Boko Haram on their release.

The girls were filmed saying they were being treated well but wanted to go home and be with their families.

Boko Haram militants abducted 276 schoolgirls from Chibok exactly two years ago, with 57 students managing to escape but 219 still missing despite a global campaign #BringBackOurGirls involving celebrities and the wife of the US President, Michelle Obama.

Reuters reported that mothers Rifkatu Ayuba and Mary Ishaya said they recognised their daughters, Saratu and Hauwa, in the video, while a third mother, Yana Galang, identified five of the missing girls. Local officials said more identifications were needed.

“The girls were looking very, very well,” Galang said in a telephone interview with the Thomson Reuters Foundation after viewing the video at a screening organised by local officials in Maiduguri.

The three mothers were invited to the viewing centre by the Chairman of Chibok Local Government Area, Bana Lawan, who confirmed that he had paid their travel costs to Maiduguri.

“They were definitely our daughters … all we want is for the government to bring back our girls,” said Galang, adding all the girls were wearing hijab in the video.

No member of Boko Haram was visible in the video and local officials were not immediately available to give details on how they received the video.

“We only heard a man’s voice and saw his finger pointing at the girls one after the other,” Reuters quoted Galang as saying.

She said the girls in the video spoke in Hausa language and Kibaku, the local Chibok language.

Galang said one mother, Ayuba, was relieved to see her daughter as she had heard a rumour shortly after the kidnapping that her daughter had been killed by Boko Haram.

“She was very happy to see her in the video … her daughter is alive,” Galang said.

Shehu Sani urges negotiation with sect

Reacting to the new development that the mothers identified their daughters in the new video, the senator representing Kaduna Central and former negotiator on the release of 219 Chibok girls abducted by the Boko Haram, Sheu Sani, said the Islamic group had no option but to agree to the negotiation on the release of the schoolgirls.

Sani said the terrorists had lost the ground to the military since President Muhammadu Buhari assumed office and advised the insurgents to embrace dialogue.

The senator, who spoke in an interview with CNN on Wednesday, said impostors among some of the negotiators had been a challenge inhibiting a breakthrough and suggested that the source that facilitated the release of the video should be engaged by the government in the negotiation with the sect.

He said, “Negotiation will make it possible for these girls to be brought back home alive. What has always been the problem in the last few years has been the very fact there are scam negotiators, who most times make claims and don’t deliver. And I think this is what we must be very careful of at this time. The very fact that we can get such a credible video from some sources and those sources are elements that need to be utilised to be able to achieve the goal of getting these girls out.

“When President Muhammadu Buhari took over, a section of our country was taken over by the insurgence group. They hosted their flags and even unleashed their version of theocratic Islamic group. But now, with funding for the military and support by the government, the morale is high, the military had been able to push them back and most of the cities in the North-East are safe. Buhari has not been able to achieve 100 per cent success but he has made serious progress. I believe he can still achieve more. With the very fact that now, they know clearly they cannot win militarily and the only option is to go for other ways. There is no other way other than for them to agree to negotiate on the release of these girls.”

The senator noted that countries like United States and Israel had explored negotiation in similar circumstances and urged the Federal Government to follow suit.

He said, “Negotiations have taken place in a number of countries. There were negotiations between the Israelis government and Hamas, which led to the release of some Israelis soldiers; the same thing with Taliban and America brokered by Qatar. We believe that Nigeria will take this opportunity. I believe with such a credible video, there is light at the end of the tunnel that these girls are alive and that very source that provided this video should be used to get these girls out.”

Politics / #dasukigate: Chief Olu Falae Confesses He Got N100m, States Why And How by macdanpets(m): 8:09am On Jan 08, 2016
Source: http://www.newspunch.org/dasukigate-chief-falae-confesses-he-got-n100m-states-why-and-how/

Chief Olu Falae, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Presidential Candidate to the defunct Alliance for Democracy, AD has confessed he got the sum of N100 million from the former Peoples Democratic Party BoT Chairman, Chief Tony Anenih during the last year presidential election, the fund, which was originally to procure arms for the Nigerian armed forces to combat insurgency in the northeastern part of the nation.

According to New Telegraph, Falae said the money was purely an interparty affair between the PDP and the Social Democratic Party (SDP), which he is the National Chairman. The former presidential candidate said the money was given to the SDP to effectively campaign for the PDP in the 2015 presidential election. According to him, in the build up to the 2015 general elections, the PDP and SDP entered into working agreement.

His words: “In the build-up to the presidential election, the PDP approached the SDP which I chaired. The then ruling party solicited for our support in order for President Goodluck Jonathan to win the March 28 presidential election. “Anenih related with me as the chairman of the PDP BoT and I did same as the SDP National Chairman. He wrote to me as PDP BoT chairman and I wrote back as SDP National Chairman stating conditions/terms for the alliance.

I have the record. “It is true that N100 million was given to my party to endorse and work for the Jonathan’s candidature in the 2015 election. We used the money for that purpose and we effectively campaigned for the PDP since we did not have presidential candidate in the election. The money was not for me.

“Thank God I’m a retired civil servant. I have all the documents to prove all that transpired between the two parties.” The former Finance Minister stated that there was no way he could know that the money was from arms fund. “With all the money PDP has and having spent 16 years in power, how would I know that the money was from the arms deal? No reference was made to the arms deal. So, they should not bring me into the arms issue.

The relationship was purely interparty affairs,” Falae told New Telegraph. Crime / THE UNTOLD: How Zakzaky Ran Parallel Govt For 20 Years - Victims Narrate Ordeal by macdanpets(m): 2:33pm On Dec 27, 2015
Residents of Zaria, Kaduna State, yesterday accused leader of the Shiite Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky of running a parallel government, through which he brought untold hardship on them for over 20 years.

The residents called on the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency ban the Zakzaky-led Islamic movement from their communities.

Addressing a press conference in Kaduna, the spokesperson of the affected Zaria communities, Idris Mohammed Baba, alleged that members of the Shiite sect had held people in Zaria and Sabon Gari local government areas of the state hostage with impunity while they ran the parallel government in the country.

Baba also alleged that the Shiites had in May 2015, declared 24 youths persona non grata for challenging their activities in Gyellesu community where Zakzaky resides.

Narrating their ordeals in the hands of the Shiite followers for over 20 years in Zaria, Baba said, “my experience with Shiite followers is disastrous and terrible. At a point, Shiite boys threatened to kill me. There is one notorious Shiite boy call Ali, he is the leader of El-Zakzaky’s notorious boys who accompany him anywhere he goes.”

The spokesperson said members of the community were happy with the military action against the Shiite’s movement in Zaria about a fortnight ago because “we have fresh air now blowing in our areas.”

“Before, we couldn’t grant an interview to the world about the Shiite activities but now, we are sleeping with our two eyes closed. As a community, we wrote letters to the governments about the ungodly activities of the Shiites but no single action was taken. We no longer report Shiites to the police because they will never honour police or security invitation.

“These Shiites are authority unto themselves; they don’t respect authority, security and so on. We are Muslims but we discovered that Shiites activities are contrary to Islam. They carry dangerous weapons openly molesting innocent people in our areas. Human rights bodies should also look into our pains by Shiite sect,” he stated.

Alhaji Saidu Garba, one of the Gyallesu elders who also addressed journalists, lamented that the once booming economic activities in the area had been crippled due to the activities of members of the Shiite sect in the area.

According to Garba, “after El-Zakzaky was released from detention in 1999, he came and settled in Gyallesu and since then, there is no peace in our area.

“We thank Allah for touching the heart of government and the military for liberating us from Shiites untold hardship.

“Shiites killed many of our people who challenged their activities, we buried them and we couldn’t talk to the world because of their threat. We were living like slaves in our own land where the Shiite leader, Sheikh El-Zakzaky came and met us. We residents of Gyallesu are calling on the Federal government to ban Shiite movement in our community and Kaduna state as a whole. Government should put a stop to the Shiite’s ungodly activities in our area,” he said.

Politics / Lagos 2015: 11 Out Of 12 Guber Aspirants Reject Tinubu's Sham Primaries To Hold by macdanpets(m): 11:23am On Dec 03, 2014
Source: http://www.newspunch.org/?p=12427

Numerous aspirants for the Lagos State governorship on the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) say they are opposed to a primary scheduled this Thursday for choosing the party’s candidate. They described the primary as a ruse orchestrated by former Governor Bola Tinubu to impose his candidate, warning that they were prepared to resist the scheme.Source: http://www.newspunch.org/?p=12427

The party’s governorship primary election for Lagos State is scheduled for Thursday, but 12 APC aspirants met on Monday in Lagos and demanded a halt to it. Instead, they have called for either a consensus arrangement or the election of delegates who will then constitute an electoral college to vote on December 4.

Two inside sources disclosed that the 12 aspirants met in Ikoyi on Monday after collecting their certificates of clearance to contest the election. At their meeting, the aspirants decided to send a letter to the leadership of the APC demanding an urgent meeting no later than Tuesday December 2.

One of the aspirants, who attended the meeting, described Thursday's primary election as a sham in the making, adding that it should not be allowed to take place.

“We all met and decided to inform the leadership of our party to schedule an urgent meeting for Tuesday evening where we will tell them why the governorship primary election should not hold in Lagos on Thursday,” said the source. He added: “At the meeting, only Akinwumi Ambode was absent. After collecting his clearance certificate, he disappeared. We tried all we could to ensure that he participated in the meeting, but our efforts were in vain.”

According to another source at the meeting, “we agreed on the modality for the primary election and decided that it is either we work out a consensus arrangement or our party obeys the stipulations of the constitution by conducting a delegates' election.”

He warned: “A faulty primary election will only endanger our party; if the APC does not do the right thing, then expect a boycott of Thursday's election.”

The sources disclosed that some of them had received summons based on a lawsuit filed by two APC members, Olorunfemi Olayinka Oluwatosin and Dada Olusegun Joseph, at the Federal High Court in Lagos.

“The case they filed is against the APC, INEC and the 13 governorship aspirants of the party in Lagos State. The plaintiffs are seeking the court's injunction to stop the primary election from holding as the party allegedly conducted a faulty congress earlier in April, while it is also yet to conduct ‘the election leading to the primary election,’” one of our sources revealed.

Several of the disaffected candidates noted that their party would make a mockery of itself if it continued to disregard transparent democratic ethos.

Politics / 2015 Poll: Prepare Your Charms, Other Native Powers Ready — Tinubu by macdanpets(m): 6:16am On Nov 28, 2014

National leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Tinubu, has asked Nigerians to prepare their charms and other native powers for the 2015 poll.Source: http://www.newspunch.org/?p=12126

Tinubu said this during the inauguration of Governor Rauf Aregbesola for a second term in office in Osogbo, Osun State, on Thursday.

Other party chieftains, alongside Tinubu at the ceremony, were former military head of state and APC presidential aspirant, General Muhammadu Buhari; erstwhile acting national chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande and APC state governors, among others.

Speaking to the crowd that thronged the venue of the event, Tinubu said, “we are today celebrating your firm stand, courage, determination and steadfastness. The greatest philosophy that started in Osun is common sense revolution. It is the ability to send these people away. They take from you and steal from all of us. Is Nigeria better off in the past four years? It is getting worse.”

Also speaking, Buhari bemoaned what he termed the pitiable state of the nation, tasking Nigerians to utilise their voting rights in effecting a positive change in 2015, by supporting APC in its quest to attain power at the federal level.

The APC presidential aspirant, who described Aregebesola’s victory on August 9 as catalyst that revived the morale of APC, maintained that “after Ekiti disaster and the botched impeachment of Nasarawa State governor, Osun people stood their ground and voted for APC.”

Aregbesola had won the August 9 election by polling 394, 684 votes to defeat the standard-bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Iyiola Omisore, who secured 292,747 votes.

After taking the oath of office, administered on him by the state Chief Judge, Justice Oyebola Adepele Ojo, around 1.15 p.m., Aregbesola, accompanied by his wife, Sherifat, rode in a motorcade around the stadium.

Delivering a speech, titled: “Continuing on our path of greatness,” the governor said “we are here today to celebrate the goodness of God, indomitable spirit of our people and democratic ideals,” recalling that “before, during and on the day of the governorship poll, there was a security siege on Osun to instill fear in our people.”

While contending that the best thing for Nigerians is to vote massively for the APC in 2015 general election, Aregbesola asserted that “in the past four years, we have kept faith with the mandate given to us by the people. We have rekindled the virtues of hardwork.”

According to him, “the PDP stands for poverty, mystery and insecurity. They are prepared to sacrifice the entire nation for their hold on power.

“In February 2015, we would defeat them. Osun has proven it. We would defeat them in all national elections. We urge all Nigerians to rise up and defeat the PDP. Enough is enough. Don’t be intimidated.”
