A Yorkie mix has stolen the show at a Maine dog kissing contest after sloppily locking tongue to lips with its owner for 45.8 seconds straight.
Beau, a 12-year-old Yorkie and dachshund mix was named the two-year running champion at the Ninth Annual Valentine's Day Canine Kissing Contest and Cocktail Party in Portland on Tuesday [Feb. 12] night.

'Last year's winner,' which was Beau again, 'was upwards of one minute and some seconds, which is a pretty lengthy kiss to watch,' Jim Williams, owner of Planet Dog Company where the event was held told the Bangor Daily News.

A Staffordshire terrier named Sunny earned second place by smothering its owner's face, Casey Mountain, from top to bottom for a straight 16.8 seconds.
A wet sheen was easily seen left coating the man's face.

Third place went to Erik Boucher's dog named Django which was able to keep its tongue going for 11.7 seconds.

'It gets very competitive', said Mr Williams. 'Some of our dogs and owners actually train for this every year so they want to come out and have the longest kiss and we time every kiss.'

Beau was similarly to the other contestants heard coxed by his owner, Linda Walton, through pursed lips.

Super Eagles backroom staff are disappointed coach Stephen Keshi has not fought for them after they missed out on the government’s largesse.

Keshi, his assistant coaches and players were rewarded by Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan with national honours and plots of land in Abuja for winning the 2013 AFCON.

But the backroom staff like equipment manager, security and medical staff attached to the team were only given 2 million Naira each.

The Eagles will this week be in Delta and Akwa Ibom States for special victory receptions by the respective state governments without most of these shattered backroom staff.

One of the backroom staff told MTNFootball.com: “We worked hard for this team, but when it came to reaping the reward of our hard work, we were virtually left out.

“Keshi has still not deemed it fit to make it known to the Presidency that he did not win this trophy only with his coaches and players, but some of us who had to work round the clock to ensure everything was in place for the team.

“Do you know that in 2005, when Samson Siasia led Nigeria to win the AYC, his backroom staff were left out by the government, but he was prompt to point out this omission to President Olusegun Obasanjo and they were each given 500,000 Naira, just like other members of the squad?”

Another backroom staff added: “This was a person who was known to fight for others when he was skipper of the national team. That was why he got the nickname ‘Big Boss’. But this is not the case now.

“If anybody could convince the President to consider us, that person would be Keshi because he now has direct access to Jonathan.”

President general of the Nigerian Supporters Club Rafiu Ladipo received a standing ovation on Wednesday when he pointed out that the Eagles backroom staff were overlooked by President Jonathan.

It was further gathered that while Keshi has failed to get his staff to be better appreciated, skipper Joseph Yobo has done everything to make sure that is not the case where he is in a position to do so.

Yobo made sure each squad member received $2,500 from the $100,000 Rivers State Governor Rotimi Ameachi donated to the team after they were forced to a 1-1 draw in their opening group game against Burkina Faso.

He has also maintained he will do same with other donations received from telecommunications tycoon Michael Adenuja, business mongul Aliko Dangote among others.

The Nigeria Football Federation said it still intends to hire a foreign technical director.

The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, said on Thursday in Abuja that there was no going back on its plan to hire a foreign technical director for the national teams.

Emaka Inyama, a board member and Chairman of NFF Media and Publicity Committee, said there had not been any rebuttal to the arrangement since Musa Amadu, the General Secretary of the federation, disclosed the plan in 2012.

Mr. Inyama, who was fielding questions from journalists at a news conference, said that the idea was to have a template for football development in the country.

“There has not been any rebuttal since the general secretary said so; so, we are going ahead with the plan.

“What we have always said is that there is a need for us to develop a structure and a template for football development in this country. That is the beauty of a technical director. He doesn’t coach the teams but he will be able to say this is the mode of scouting, equipment and so on.

“Every federation in the world has it; even at club level, they do it (employ technical director) and I don’t think there is anything wrong with it,’’ Mr. Inyama said.

The board member, who is also the chairman of the Nigerian National League , NNL, said there was no need for the hues and cries by Nigerians on the matter, as it would not interfere with the job of any coach.

On Keshi’s resignation saga, Mr. Inyama explained that Keshi’s job as the Super Eagles’ Head Coach was intact.

“The programme we gave to you was submitted by Keshi. If we have plans to do away with him, we will not ask him to submit his programme for 2014 and the World Cup.

“If Keshi was to go, will you pay him ahead to motivate him without holding back? If there are issues, can’t they be resolved. Should they be a national issue after we won the trophy?” he said.

According to him, the NFF should be commended for the feat achieved by the Super Eagles’ rather than being criticised.

Mr. Inyama, however, advised Nigerians to criticise the board constructively, adding that the Eagles’ excelled in South Africa because of the enabling environment provided by the football federation for it to succeed.

Keshi has expressed concern over the plan by the NFA to hire a foreign technical director for the national team.

There are also fears that the foreigner can usurp the job of the coach.

The Senate of the Federal Republic, through the Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory on Thursday opposed the release of additional N9 billion for Vice President Namadi Sambo’s official residence now under construction.

Senator Smart Adeyemi, the Chairman of the Committee, who spoke while on oversight visit to the site of the project said such a huge sum was uncalled for especially at a time when most Nigerians cannot afford three square meals.

“The National Assembly is not going to appropriate additional N9 billion for the project especially at a period in this country where people cannot get three square meal,” He said.

The Senator insisted that “the N9 billion is far more than the original cost of the project.”
