President Muhammadu Buhari says his administration has significantly weakened the Boko Haram insurgents. In a statement by Garba Shehu, presidential spokesperson, Buhari condemned the recent attack of the insurgents on Garkida in Adamawa state. On Friday, the insurgents attacked the town, killing many people. The insurgents reportedly broke into the town around 7pm, shooting sporadically. Soldiers who engaged them in a gun battle were said to have pulled back for reinforcement. As a result of that, the insurgents reportedly moved into the town, setting many houses on fire. Reacting to the attack, the president extended his sympathy to the families of the victims and assured them that no part of the country would be abandoned to their fate. “These attacks on soft targets by the terrorists are obvious signs of frustration because my administration has significantly weakened Boko Haram’s military capability to invade and hold Nigerian territory unchallenged,” he said. “Our gallant forces deserve our appreciation for repelling the attackers but they must go beyond this point. They have our full support to go after the terrorists and have them pay a huge price. I want to assure the country that terrorists will continue to face the combined power of our military until they give up their mistaken ways. “These occasional and episodic attacks on poor civilians by the terrorists are mere propaganda efforts to portray them as strong in order to fool the public into believing that they haven’t been militarily weakened by our gallant troops.” The president also assured them that in the coming weeks, Nigerians would “witness an aggressive campaign to rout Boko Haram once and for all”. He appealed to citizens to keep supporting the troops in their effort to secure the country. “Security will continue to be well funded despite the competing needs of social services. I appeal to Nigerians to continue to support our troops in their gallant efforts to protect the citizens and secure the country,” Buhari said. https://www.thecable.ng/buhari-boko-haram-attacking-soft-targets-because-we-have-weakened-them/amp?__twitter_impression=true

EFCC has zero tolerance for corruption as our mandate is to kill corruption as corruption is worse than all the diseases we have now and I strongly believe coronavirus is caused by corruption. ![]() Magu has totally gone mad

EFCC has zero tolerance for corruption as our mandate is to kill corruption as corruption is worse than all the diseases we have now and I strongly believe coronavirus is caused by corruption. But Magu, who was commenting on the side effects of corruption, said the social vice is worse than any known disease, and is the cause of coronavirus Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), says he is strongly convinced that corruption is the cause of coronavirus. Magu said this at the passing out parade of 281 cadets of the EFCC Detective Inspector Course-5, at the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, on Tuesday. Coronavirus, officially named COVID-19, broke out in Wuhan in Hubei province of China in December. The zoonotic disease has since spread to over 25 countries, with over 73,000 infected persons and not less than 1,875 deaths. But Magu, who was commenting on the side effects of corruption, said the social vice is worse than any known disease, and is the cause of coronavirus. “The EFCC is not satisfied with just prosecuting and jailing the fraudsters, rather the commission has concluded plans to reform them in collaboration with relevant government agencies towards making them better citizens,” Magu said. “EFCC has zero tolerance for corruption as our mandate is to kill corruption as corruption is worse than all the diseases we have now and I strongly believe coronavirus is caused by corruption. “Corruption is a huge burden to our nation it has spread to insecurity, poverty, unemployment, falling standard of education, weak access to affordable health care, falling infrastructure and so many others.” He said the fight against corruption is one that must be won to secure a better future for present Nigerians and future generations. He added that one of the progress made in the fight against corruption is the increase in the convictions of cases. “As part of vigorous pursuit, the commission has created new specialised directorate and section taking into cognisance the changing phase of criminality,” he said. “This directorate includes asset forfeiture and recovery management directorate, forensic and science laboratory directorate, anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism section. “As at 2015, we had 103 convictions, in 2016 195 convictions, 314 in 2018, over 1218 convictions were secured in 2019.” https://www.thecable.ng/extra-i-strongly-believe-coronavirus-is-caused-by-corruption-says-magu/amp https://www.bbc.com/pidgin/amp/tori-51548845?__twitter_impression=true
