Police have arrested a 43-year-old Georgia man, Leon H. Williams for allegedly drowning his adopted son in the family bathtub.

He allegedly whipped the 10-year-old boy, Kentea William with a belt, poured hot water over his feet, and then held him underwater for about 30 to 45 seconds, according to a DeKalb County Police warrant.

Williams had recently adopted the child, who had previously lived with him under foster care, police said.

Kentea Williams was being punished for misbehaving in school, investigators said Williams told them.

Geri Williams, the boy’s grandmother, called 911 Friday night, to report that Kentea wasn’t breathing, police said. She told officers she saw burn marks on his feet.

A witness told investigators she saw Williams grab the boy’s neck earlier in the day as the two walked in their apartment complex’s parking lot.

“He’s gonna die tonight, I’m gonna kill him,” neighbor Alicia Lemons said he overheard Williams say.

Williams was booked into the DeKalb County Jail on first-degree charges of murder and child cruelty, authorities said.

Defense attorney Leeanne Lynch said: "Mr. Williams maintains his innocence and we're going to do our best to represent him zealously."

Ekiti State Governor and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum, Ayodele Fayose, has disclosed he does not want to contest for a Senatorial seat in the next general electons.

He attributed his reason for not wanting to contest for any post to the fact that he wants to continue to agitate for a better Nigeria.

He however, refused to comment on the health status of President Muhammadu Buhari, when asked by journalists, saying he would watch events as they unfold before making any comment on the issue.

The governor spoke in Ado Ekiti, on Tuesday, May 3 during a meeting with civil servants on grade levels one to seven in the state civil service.

Fayose, who saluted the workers for their courage and perseverance in the face of economic recession culminating in unstable payment of salaries, urged them to discountenance the rumour that he had received the second tranche of the Paris Club loan refund.

He explained that what the state got so far was N8.8bn, which was shared between the state and local governments, “with over 70 per cent of it expended on the payment of salaries instead of the 50 per cent agreed with the Federal Ministry of Finance.”

He advised the workers to register at the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration in the interest of Ekiti.

“I don’t want to contest again, not even for senatorial race in 2019. One thing I have learnt was that, Ekiti people don’t normally participate in some government policies where data are collated. And it used to affect us in getting extra grants or favour from the Federal Government and international agencies.

In a brief telephone chat with PREMIUM TIMES on Tuesday, the 37-year-old actress described the character as one of her most challenging roles yet.

She said, “When I first read the script, I thought of how unique police barracks really are and I couldn’t wait to really see that in pictures. To really interpret the role, I had to spend some time in a popular police barracks in Lagos. I also had to interact and study the wives of some policemen. That way, I was able to learn their nuances and also understand what living in a typical police barracks feels like.”



Shedding more light on the plot, the actress who recently played a leading role in Omoni Oboli’s film, Okafor’s Law added, “Kondo Game is a feel-good movie. It is a story filled with humour, suspense and thriller about two police officers and their families.

“Following sordid stories about the sordid state of Police barracks across the country, it is likely not a choice of home many would prefer. As the wife of a police officer, I tell my experience as a barrack tenant in the new comedy movie.

“However, I am not alone in the film. I also have a neighbour and gossip partner in the person of Mercy Johnson. Both us share similar fates that would see us become pregnant and jobless at the same time in the film.”

Kondo Game, an intriguing Nollywood comedy movie, also features Nollywood stars like Jide Kosoko, Francis Odega, Mercy Aigbe, Cossy Ojiakor and Funny Bone.

The comic adventure movie depicts life in the police barracks and follows the antics of two notorious police officers, Austin and Vincent, who take the viewers on an unending laughter ride.

Portrayed by Francis Odega and Funnybone, the two police officers would later be faced with controversial tasks. With a sloppy boss played by Kosoko, to contend with, Austin and Vincent are locked between crime busting and bursting a romantic fling with a voluptuous mistress, played by Cossy Ojiakor, who runs a beer parlour in the neighbourhood.

Cossy’s exploit heightens the rib-cracking comic adventure.

Kondo Game will premiere across Nigerian cinemas in June.

Nigerians have been advised to not stop critising President Muhammadu Buhari as that is the only way he can be stopped from destroying the country.

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose made the call while reacting to a question on whether he is the main opposition voice to the Buhari-led government.

Speaking with The Sun, Fayose said, “It’s not as if I am the main opposition to Buhari, I am just a believer in fairness, wherever criminals belong, whoever they are, Muslims or Christians, it does not matter, crime is crime, wickedness is wickedness, brutality is brutality.

“I will continue to say it as it is, because when we all keep quiet we will be taken one after the other and we will be destroyed by this administration. We must remember that Nigeria is greater than all of us, the power of the people is better than those of us in power.

“One day we will all die whether it’s by oppression or sickness, so let me say I am not afraid of anything. If you don’t die, age will take everything away from you.

“Look at our President, if you can see his heart, he wishes he was 42 years old because that is the age and time one can be active. May God give him good health because it is in good health that Nigerians can benefit.

“When the President comes out every Friday, do we say we have a ceremonial President? Let us have a President valued for money and votes. You can’t deceive people forever because the truth hurts and the hunger in the land is ridiculous. The people are hungry and angry.”

New revelation has emerged about the really large number of bank accounts being operated by Katsina State under Shema.
The Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, has disclosed that the administration of his predecessor, Ibrahim Shema, operated over 100 savings accounts in various banks, Premium Times reports.
Mr. Masari made this known on Sunday at an interactive session with the state’s indigenes living in Abuja at Shehu Yar’Adua Conference Centre, Abuja.
The governor also disclosed that he met only N7.9 million in the government’s salary account, as he gave a vivid picture of the financial situation of the state as at the time when he took ofiice from Mr. Shema at the end of May 2015.

“We inherited N7.9 million only in the salary account in May, 2015, the previous administration operated more than 100 savings accounts in various banks.

“Now we have serious problem in Katsina State. Federal allocations of most of our local government areas are not sufficient for them to even pay salaries. Even the state government in many cases has to wait for interventions like bailout and budgetary support from the federal government to execute some projects,” Mr. Masari said.

He also said his government met most schools, hospitals and many public structures in a dilapidated condition, lamenting that the situation was “deplorable beyond our expectation’’.

Mr. Masari said his administration is still battling with over-staffing and over-payment of salaries, pension and gratuities.
He called on stakeholders to invest in the state to provide job opportunity to the teeming youth of the state.

A 32-year-old man, Eric Effiong, has been arrested by operatives of the State Intelligence Bureau, SIB, Lagos State Police Command, for allegedly absconding with a school bus belonging to Peak Lane International School, Oremeji, Akute, a suburb of Lagos.

According to Vanguard, Effiong, a father of two, before he absconded with the school bus worth over N3.6 million, had worked with them for six years.

According to a police source at the command headquarters, the suspect was arrested following a petition to the Commissioner of Police, CP Fatai Owoseni, by the proprietress of the school.

The source said: “On May 27, the proprietress of Peak Lane International School, Oremiji Close, Oremiji Estate, Alagbole Akute, reported that on March 7, a driver with the school, Eric Effiong, absconded with one of the buses with number plates SMK 123 EM.”

The suspect, who relocated from his known address and switched off his phone, was finally arrested by SIB operatives, who tracked him down in Calabar, Cross River State.

Before his arrest, Effiong had already changed the number plate of the bus, re-branded it with Cross Lines Transportation Company colours and was operating Calabar-Uyo routes.

The Commissioner of Police has directed that he be charged to court for prosecution.

Speaking to Vanguard, Effiong said: “I was arrested for stealing a school bus. I was going to drop a passenger when they came down from a taxi and told me I was under arrest. I really feel bad that this thing happened to me. I just pray my boss would forgive me.

“While on official duty earlier this year, I hit a child of about one year and broke his leg. I spent over N200,000 to treat the baby.

“When I ran out of cash I began to sell my items to raise money. In the cause of that, my rent expired and my salary was N54,000. Because the school doesn’t give loan, I became frustrated. I did not know what to do and decided to abscond with the bus.

“When I got home with the bus, my parents asked how I came about it. I did not tell them anything.

“The bus was already white. I only branded it with Cross Lines Transportation Company because of the police on the road. It is safer operating under a brand name because it shields one from unnecessary arrests and harassments by security agents.

“I did that without the knowledge of the company. Since I was not operating in their park, it was difficult for them to suspect me. Apart from that, I only used it for one week because the front tyres were not good.

“It is not true that I switched off my phone. Only one of my colleagues called me the first day this thing happened. He asked me where I was. We did not discuss anything.”

Members of Christ Apostolic Church at Abule-Ijesha in Yaba local government, Lagos state on Sunday July 24, threw their pastor, Micheal Oni, out of the church during the service. TVC reports that the pastor was bundled out of the church while service was going on due to some financial disagreements going on in the church.

According to a member of the church, the pastor who was recently transferred to their church from Ibadan, was demanding for a certain amount of salary which was higher than the salary meant for his pastoral level according to the mission's rules.

They refused to pay him. They also accused him of insulting them, causing trouble in the church and raising illegal offerings during programmes in which he doesn't remit into the account of the church. "He has been giving the church problem, causing chaos in the church and fighting members, insulting and raising bad covenant between members,'' Badejo Adelu, a member of the church told TVC.

According to the pastor, the church members refused to render accounts of the church to him. "I asked them that I want to see the account of the church which they failed to render. I told them they should not spend any money without approval by me, they refused".

32-year-old Liezel Betitta has been arrested for cutting off her husband's penis with a pair of scissors because she was convinced he was having an affair. She believed he was sexually involved with a friend's wife at a building from where he worked in Iloilo City, the Philippines so after her husband, Mark, went out drinking with friends after work then fell asleep at a friend's house, Liezel went over there and found him.
Mark was roused from sleep by the pain after Liezel grabbed his manhood and sliced it off two inches from the base. The incident happened at about 10:30 pm on April 22 and Liezel fled the scene immediately her mission was complete.

As blood gushed from Mark's wound, his friends took him to the Jesus Colmenares Memorial Hospital in the Balasan Town district, several miles away. They told the police that the couple who have three children argued often.

Mark was later transferred to the Western Visayas Medical Center in Iloilo City where surgeons attempted unsuccessfully to reattach his penis. Physicians said that because the major nerve had already been severed there was little they could do. Tissue from the part cut off had also already died.
Police later arrested Liezel and she told them that she had no regrets about her action.

"I don't regret cutting off his penis. It's his punishment for being a womanizer. I am ready to face the consequences of my action," she said. "I am tired of his womanizing. He got a new girlfriend lately."

Investigator Alexis Bataga from the Carles Police said that Mark wanted to press charges against his wife. He said officers were investigating the incident and have remanded Liezel in custody.

He added: "We could not yet ascertain what drove her to harm her husband. The last time I talked to his family, they told me that he was recovering."

A former Director of Direct Labour Agency, Chief Lucky Ayomanor has the allegedly died in the custody of the police in Sapele, Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State.

It was gathered that Chief Ayomanor was accosted and searched by the police, who were on a “stop” and “search” duty along Gana road in Sapele.It was alleged that a fully loaded revolver and pump action was discovered in the SUV of Chief Ayomanor after he was searched by the police.

The police immediately arrested the Community leader and a former Labour Party, Delta State House of Assembly Candidate in 2011 election, when he failed to provide the licence.

Chief Ayomanor was alleged to have fainted and was quickly rushed to the hospital by the police where he suddenly died last night.
Chief Ayomanor recently decamped from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.Contacted, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP, Andrew Anieamaka confirmed the report saying, “police found a fully loaded pump action gun in his car and when the police demanded for the licence, he could not provide it.

“The police then took him to the police station in Sapele when he fainted, he was then rushed to hospital where he died”.

In a swift response to the police claims that a gun was found in his car, a brother to the deceased, Chief Michael Okor denied the allegations that a gun was found in the car of Chief Ayomanor.

Chief Okor described the police claims as fabricated.

“That was not true, you know the police like fabricating stories. Chief Ayomanor is a very peace loving man. What would he need a gun for?” He asked.

However reactions have continued to trail the death of the Sapele born High Chief and political leader as some of his supporters had vowed to avenge his death if an autopsy that was going to be carried on Chief Ayomanor stated otherwise.

In a bid to forestall any breakdown of law and order, security men were seen patrolling the town in large numbers.

The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday, presented over N4m cash rewards and post-humous certificates of commendation to the families of the policemen recently killed by militants at Ikorodu. It will be recalled that four policemen and an army captain were ambushed by suspected militants on April 9, while responding to distress call that some people were being kidnapped at Isawo, Ikorodu.
They died on the spot while three others escaped with severe bullet wounds.

They were also given cash rewards.

The suspected leader of the militants, one Endurance Ominisan aka Mighty was gunned down by operatives of IGP Intelligence Response Team during a shootout at his girlfriend's house on Joel Adebolu Street, Ibeshe, Ikorodu.

The Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, conveying the message of the Inspector General of Police gave cash and posthumous certificate of gallantry to the families of the dead officers police at the state command headquarters on Tuesday.

Owoseni said the monies and certificates were to demonstrate to the families that the IGP and the entire Police Force appreciate their gallantry and encourage other policemen that the force is with them in time of peace and trouble.

"Inspector Godwin Iruagbalachi, Inspector Francis Pemi, Sergeant Mammudu Dembo and Sergeant Idor Ekoro were given the IGP’s commendation so that their death would not be in vain, adding that the cash could not be equated to the loss but a sign of appreciation for their dedication to duty.

"These men were responding to a distress call to save lives when they were killed. We should learn how to appreciate sacrifice of our men, which is what we have done today, not that the token can bring them back . We pray that God would grant them eternal rest in paradise.”

He called on other policemen not to relent in their duty of protecting lives and property and also called on members of the public to cooperate with the police in the fight against crime.

The statutory death benefits of the officers, insurance and sundry entitlements are still being processed.
