@Platinumnk We are going to come to blows over your dress fabric I've contacted 4 friends who are full blown buyers, one works for M&S. The your fabric content you gave me for your dress IS classed as " jersey" fabric. I said the dress you've put on this thread looked like "jersey" fabric. WE may use different words for fabrics in the UK (not jersey like a jumper). 92% polyester 8% spandex This company called "KOSHTEX" sells it for $4.50, it's listed as "i.t.y spandex". They are in Los Angeles. This is what they say about it"this beautiful fashionable fabric is suitable for high end blouses and dresses" www.koshtex.com
hmm interesting. thanks 4 the info. i guess it's a look that never goes out of style. talking about horizontal stripes make u look fat ![]() i love the look
I do too. I had a long cardie , but that's long gone. Yes they say horizontal stripes make you look fat , but they are so easy to wear that I wear it anyway.I shall wear mine to work 2day, thanks for reminding me about it. |
Hello@Poster, I am really interested in Ankara (wax) ![]() Do you have any pictures of the fabric you will be using?
|
funkybaby:I would love you to show me the latest styles in "ANKARA" I only design European styles , so I would love to see Nigerian styles (latest)When you say "tube" do mean straight? Could you also show me the different types of "wax" London and any other. You have been a great help. I love the fabrics but I do not know the "new" fabrics and styles. I have just recently come across yearly catalogues which show wax fabrics, I think they are called "VLISCO". Do you know any better source? I normal buy wax fabric by eye and not by what are the latest out. Your take on this would be a great help. ![]() |
funkybaby:So they are all "ANKARA" that's good to know ![]() Well I only have my own designs made up, but that mac cost £90.00 (minus the fabric). When you say gown, do you mean full length? You could put a pic of what you mean on this thread, I would then ask her. ![]() |
platinumnk:It's a light weight spring coat, made from a dress fabric. Lots of them around this year. I designed mine with a very full bottom so that I can wear it on it's own like a dress. funkybaby:Thank you for your reply. So you have different types of "wax" I just buy the 5/6 yards of the wax fabric So this IS "ANKARA". The dressmaker lives in South London. Thank you very much . |
^^ You have very light weight cottons, most of the maxi dresses from the high brands do use pure fabrics. But the blend your after does not crease so I see it's merits. I will get back to you tomorrow with some online shops that send out samples. Call them and get swatches sent to you ASAP. |
^^^^Are u mad girl I only designed it.It's a fancy mac. This young British born Jamaican girl makes up my designs for me, she's a very good dressmaker. |
platinumnk:No Probs. Lets start with the top, yes separate fabrics can work, that's the way most are done. I have seen lots of striped green/white fabric, even some on ebay, but the stripes are not as nice as your design. Your designs are "COLOUR BLOCKS" not common stripes. The dress you have just shown looks more like a "jersey" but I see what you want. Are you sure you do not want a light cotton mix?. I will check a few more sources and come up with some options. PLEASE EXCUSE ME ON THE BIKINI, THAT'S TOO DIFFICULT FOR ME ,I do not want to give the wrong advice. |
chaircover:I totally agree with you. I would be 100% comfortable buying from you. |
. |
^^^^ AH so they said you should use separate fabrics, that's what I mean about colour blocks, these are colours in separate fabrics, like I said. The Jamaican colours are hardly worn, maybe a theme thing or dancehall events .I did wonder about the 2ND design, so it's a top, that pic shows it much more clearly. ![]() Now that your have decided to use different fabrics half your battles won. You only need to decided on the texture you want. Ankara maybe what I call "wax" look at a thread I have started. I think it's too stiff for what you want. Your colours are green and white? Why do you want the dress to be "soft" pls explain?. |

Hi, can anyone tell me if this is WAX or ANKARA? I always get a few of my designs made up for summer wear. I make them in what I call WAX, I've been told that it's called ANKARA. Is their any difference? Please excuse the messy pics , I took a quick snap in the dressmaker's corner (rushing to get back to work). |
@Poster I have one. The black and white stripe dress seems to come out every year, over hear they call it the "Nautical look". The stripes on mine are broader, I wonder if that's because it's from some time ago ![]() |
^^ Hmm I printed out your designs My friends and myself have discussed them. The bikini maybe risky, for a young child or very small busted girl fine, the average black girl would have problems wearing it. You would need very firm fabric for the bust. The white stripe on the bust front ![]() The Nigerian flag idea for a bikini ![]() The 2ND dress, I just do not like it. ![]() The 3rd dress, I LOVE LOVE IT, WE WOULD ALL WEAR IT. It would be great short, the short may sell more. I think you are making a rod for your own back by getting the fabric printed up. I have seen this style, you use the colour blocks for the construction/shaping of the dress. The last colour block which you have as black, this would be how you tie or button the dress up. The fabric could be stiff silk (like a fabric called wild silk ) The fabric could be a polyester silk. The fabric could be Ankara (that would be fab) Or just plain cottons in the colour blocks. Are you in Nigeria? try getting a sample made, see how it holds the bust and how it lays on the neck. Your dressmaker may prefer you to get the fabric in one colour for ease of construction, make 1 and see . |
Hmmm I am considering these need something for the sunny days @iice your colours have got into my head ![]()
