Politics / Why We Sent Officials To PENCOM - DSS by malakus(m): 6:36am On Apr 23, 2017 |
The Department of State Security (DSS) sent its officials to the head office of Pension Commission of Nigeria (PENCOM) to prevent illegal tempering with official documents, a senior official of the agency said. The security official who spoke in confidence said the agency did not conduct any raid on the commission as speculated. “We did not conduct any raid on PENCOM office. What we did was to put a standby team at the office to prevent anybody from tampering or altering any document unlawfully or without due process,” the security chief said. The source said what the intelligence agency did was prevent an act of subversion. “We got intelligence information that some documents were being tampered with, some documents were being signed and back-dated at the PENCOM office, following the announcement of a new management of the commission,” the security source said. The DSS is “only being pro-active by ordering all officials there to stop forthwith any action on official documents, pending when the new management will assume duty,” the source said. The secret service was responding to stories that its officers invaded PENCOM’s head office in Abuja on Friday. The former PENCOM director-general, Chinelo Anohu-Amazu, was sacked by President Muhammadu Buhari alongside heads of 22 other federal agencies about a week ago. Spokesman of the commission, Emeka Onuorah, also said he was not aware of any raid on the Commission. And on whether or not Mrs Anohu-Amazu had vacated office, he said he has not been seeing the former DG in the office, but could not confirm if she had handed over. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/news/general/why-we-sent-officials-to-pencom-dss/194691.html

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunimi Ambode on Friday said his government is not involved in the demolition of Ojodu market in the state. Hundreds of shops were demolished on Wednesday at the popular market located within Ojodu Local Council Development Authority by men of the Lagos State Task Force on Environment, allegedly in compliance with a court order. The demolition was said to have caught many traders unaware as they were not given any notice before the exercise was carried out. Ambode expressed surprise over the demolition which led to loss of goods worth millions of Naira. The governor disclosed this at the 2nd Quarter 2017 Town Hall Meeting, organised by the state government at the Shibiri/Ekunpa Area Office, Oto-Awori Local Council Development Authority. He said he did not approve the demolition. "I have directed the Commissioner for Justice to look into the matter and report back to me. We are ready to support market women and we will not do anything to jeopardize their interest," Ambode said. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/news/business/ambode-denies-hand-in-market-demolition-in-ojodu/194542.html

Apex pan-Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has called on the Federal Government to support a senior lecturer at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umuahia, Abia State, Prof. Maduike Ezeibe, who recently claimed he discovered the cure for HIV/ AIDS. Education / Teachers Without Professional Certificates To Go By Dec — FG by malakus(m): 6:44am On Apr 19, 2017 |
The Federal Government has said teachers who do not possess Professional Certificate of the Teachers’ Registration Council, TRCN, will be shown the way out by the end of this year. This was disclosed by the Registrar/Chief Executive of the Council, Professor Olusegun Ajiboye in Ibadan yesterday. According to him, the decision is part of the three-year Ministerial Strategic Plan by the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu. This, he added, was aimed at getting rid of unqualified teachers in Nigerian schools. He further hinted that the first professional qualifying examination of TRCN would hold at the end of September, 2017. He advised those who want to use the normal registration to act before the end of May 2017. While hinting that about 1.6m teachers have registered, he said examination was designed in modules comprising category A (PhD holders), B (Master degree holders), C (Bachelor degree holders), and D (NCE holders). Ajiboye said, “By the end of 2017, Nigerian children will be taught by only qualified professional teachers who can deliver the quality education desirous for the elevation of our children and our country.” Source: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/04/teachers-without-professional-certificates-go-dec-fg/ 5 Likes 1 Share |
Politics / Nigerian Economy Out Of Recession, Growing Strongly—world Economics by malakus(m): 6:33am On Apr 19, 2017 |
The Nigerian economy is out of recession and growing strong, says United Kingdom-based World Economics. The organisation, which is dedicated to producing analysis, insight and data relating to questions of importance in understanding the world economy, said this development was reflected in the growth of its April Sales Managers’ Index, SMI, for Nigeria, which rose to 58.5 per cent from 56.7 per cent in March. According to a report on its website, the organisation said: “April Sales Managers’ Index, SMI, data suggests that the Nigerian economy is continuing to grow out of the recession which saw 10 months of consecutive contraction in 2016. “The Market Growth Index grew to 58.5 in April as the monthly Sales Growth Index ticked up to 56.7, its highest value since 2015 and representative of rapid growth. Price inflation for April, which is tracked by the Prices Charged Index, remained high at 58.7 – indicative of high levels of inflation. A slowing trend has, however, developed for the past nine months.” Source: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/04/nigerian-economy-recession-growing-strongly-world-economics/ 2 Likes 4 Shares |
