The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) worldwide on Monday said the statement credited to the Kaduna State governor, Mallam El rufai that Niger Delta militants were contracted to carry out attacks in southern Kaduna is capable of inciting the people of Kaduna and the entire north against Niger Deltans. Spokesman of the IYC, Eric Omare in statement issued in Yenagoa described the governor’s comment as reckless and highly condemnable adding that Niger Deltans have no business going all the way to Kaduna or any part of Nigeria to attack Nigerians. A truck belonging to Dangote Group on Friday, crushed a Second Republic Senator, Mukhtar Abdulkarim, to death. Abdulkarim, along with his brother and driver, was traveling between Kano and Zamfara states on Friday when the truck rammed into his car, killing him instantly. His brother, Buhari Abdulkarim, an architect, and his driver were injured in the accident. Both were said to be receiving medical attention at Uthman Dan Fodio University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH), Sokoto. What could have been a major tragedy was on Saturday averted by the combined efforts of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the Lagos State Fire Service when a tanker fully loaded with 33,000 litres of PMS fell on the Anthony Bridge Inward Gbagada. According to an eyewitness account, the incident which occurred at about midnight on Saturday was as a result of two trucks struggling to overtake each other and then collided, leaving the fuel tanker fallen on its side while the other one sped away. Mrs Comfort Alaba Baikie, a female Customs officer who was abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Tuesday has been released. Baikie, a Chief Superintendent of Customs attached to SDV Bonded Terminal under the Tin Can Customs Command, was with her two daughters, when the masked men stormed out of their car and abducted her at Tastee Fried Chicken outlet at 22 Road, Festac Town. Following the uncovering and seizure of several bags of the supposed plastic rice by the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Wednesday, the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, yesterday disclosed that preliminary test results reveal there is no evidence backing claims of plastic rice in Lagos. Customs Area Comptroller, Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘A’, Ikeja; Comptroller Haruna Mamudu said the unit seized no fewer than 102 bags of the plastic rice at a warehouse in Ikeja, Lagos. A 32-year-old man, Ganiyu Abdulmumeen Owolabi, who allegedly damaged three trailer tyres, appeared before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, Lagos on Wednesday. The prosecutor told the court that the accused unlawfully damaged three trailer tyres valued at about N550,000 property of Harlink Investment Limited. Two gunmen suspected to be kidnappers, on Tuesday night abducted Comfort Alaba, a Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) officer at Festac Town, Lagos. The two-man gang stormed Tastee Fried Chicken outlet at 22 Road, Festac Town and abducted the woman at about 8pm. The Federal Government yesterday raised alarm over fake imported honey from China as most of them were produced with sugar syrup which poses danger to human health. This was stated by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, while receiving delegation of Nigeria Apiculture Platform (NAP). “We abandoned agriculture in this country for a very long time and today things are very tough. We became importers and not producers, and so we import everything including honey. “There is no harm in importing but if it consumes 80 per cent of what you earn – the import bill of honey from China is about $100 million a year. The Federal Operations Unit, Ikeja, of the Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted 102 bags of plastic rice branded “Beat Tomato Rice” with no date of manufacture. The Customs Area Controller of F.O.U. Comptroller Mohammed Haruna, on Tuesday in Lagos said that the commodity was stored for distribution as Yuletide gifts for the public. Haruna said that officers of the unit intercepted the plastic rice along Ikeja area on Monday, adding that a suspect was arrested in connection with the seizure. The Presidential Amnesty Office has said that the suspected pipelines vandal, called General Eagle, who was arrested by security agencies, is not one of the ex-militants registered under the Presidential Amnesty Programme. The Media and Communications Consultant of the Amnesty Office, Owei Lakemfa, said in a statement on Monday the suspect – being held for suspected vandalism, illegal bunkering and kidnapping – should not be associated with the Amnesty Office and militancy in the Niger Delta. Lakemfa said that it was not uncommon for such people to claim to be an ex-agitator out of desperation to escape justice for alleged offenses. He stressed that being captured under the Amnesty Programme as an ex-agitator was not a license for anybody to commit any crime. With the new electronic Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), any vehicle on which duty has not been paid will not be able to be registered and driven in Nigeria, the federal government declared yesterday. Founder, National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Dr. Boniface Aniebonam has admitted that freight forwarders give bribe to Customs and other government agencies to clear consignment out of the ports. e Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday quizzed four suspected oil thieves – John Deppa, Henry Lazarus, Inyene James and Godspower Goodluck – for allegedly dealing in petroleum products suspected to be refined Automotive Gas Oil {AGO} illegally. The four suspects were arrested by officers of the NNS Pathfinder Naval Base Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt, Rivers State and handed over to the EFCC for further investigation and possible prosecution. The Zonal Head of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Apapa, identified Bakare was on Thursday beaten to death by suspected okada riders and touts in Apapa area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria. Ships & Ports gathered that Bakare was killed at Point Road, Apapa while enforcing the road traffic law which banned okada riders from plying 475 major roads in Lagos. Bakare was said to have been attacked and was brutally murdered by the irate okada riders. LASTMA General Manager, Bashir Braimah confirmed the incident, saying that he was trying to control and regulate traffic in Apapa when he was killed. He did not give further details. Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmos confirmed the incident, saying that it was a mob action and that the LASTMA officer was killed in the process.
