MINISTER OF EDUCATION ACCUSED OF DOUBLE STANDARD AT FEDERAL COLLEGE OF EDUCATION (TECHNICAL), Omoku | #IgbereTV
PORT HARCOURT, Rivers State – The process for appointing a substantive Bursar at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Omoku, has become a subject of controversy, with staff unions and stakeholders raising concerns over adherence to statutory procedures and calling for the intervention of the Federal Ministry of Education.
The dispute centers on the published eligibility criteria for the position and the procedures followed by the institution's Governing Council, chaired by Obong Stephen Leo Ntukepo.
At the heart of the matter is a letter from the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) dated 3rd April 2025, with reference number NCCE/HR/FCEO/27/11/153. A copy of the letter seen by our correspondent explicitly states that candidates for the Bursar position must be "Deputy Bursars on CONTDISS 15."
However, the subsequently published advertisement for the role contained a different clause, stating that “a candidate must be a Deputy Bursar/Accountant Cadre or its equivalent on CONTDISS 15.”
Petitions Allege Procedural Irregularities
In petitions filed to the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, and seen by this newspaper, some stakeholders within the college have alleged that this alteration amounts to a manipulation of the process. They claim the change was made to favor a specific candidate, Mr. Victor Ifeanyi Ahiakwo, the college's Director of Audit.
The petitioners argue that the Audit Directorate is not part of the Bursary department and cite the Federal Government Gazette No. 72 of October 27, 2009, which they say restricts internal audit staff from assuming accounting functions.
Further allegations in the petitions include a claim that the Governing Council Chairman may have acted in contravention of Section 20(1) of the Federal College of Education Act 2023, which mandates the constitution of a Selection Board for such appointments. Petitioners state they have seen no evidence that such a board was formed.
It is also alleged that the interview venue was relocated from Omoku, Rivers State, to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, a decision critics question given the absence of a stated security crisis in Rivers State.
Stakeholders and Unions Demand Action
Citing these concerns, some staff unions within the college have begun consultations and are threatening industrial action if their demands are not met. They are calling on the NCCE, the Minister of Education, and the National Assembly to intervene.
Their primary demand is for the position to be re-advertised in strict compliance with the NCCE's vetted guidelines.
“The Federal College of Education (Technical), Omoku, is a national institution. Its processes must be transparent and beyond reproach,” a union representative stated on condition of anonymity.
Efforts for Clarification
When contacted for this report, the Acting Provost of the College, Dr. Ndu Amadike, confirmed he was in Abuja but declined to comment on the specific allegations, stating he could not do so over the phone.
All attempts to reach the Chairman of the Governing Council, Obong Stephen Leo Ntukepo, for his response were unsuccessful, as his mobile phone was switched off.
The Office of the Director for Colleges of Education at the Federal Ministry of Education has not yet provided an official statement on the matter at the time of filing this report.
The situation remains unresolved, with the scheduled interview for the position reportedly pending ministerial review.

BREAKING!!! Again, Emegha Launches Heavy Blow On Ebonyi PDP, Snatches ex-Chairman
The relentless efforts of the Ebonyi State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha, to unite all critical stakeholders of the State around the ruling party ahead of 2027 has continued to yield positive results.
In line with his track-records, he has successfully convinced the former Ebonyi State Chairman of the People's Democratic party, (PDP), Hon. Tochukwu Okorie, to defect from the opposition party into the APC.
Chief Emegha had for months been wooing the last elected Chairman of the PDP in Ebonyi State to join other patriotic and selfless stakeholders of the state to rally support for our performing Governor, His Excellency Rt.Hon. Prince Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, and consolidate the gains of our democracy under his people -oriented administration.
After months of selfless reflections and considerations, Hon. Tochukwu Okorie has gallantry tendered his resignation from the People's Democratic party (PDP), and subsequently announced his readiness to defect to APC, and support the re-election of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru and all APC candidates come 2027.
Okorie's decision to leave PDP and to join APC has dealt a big blow to the irredeemably perforated opposition in the State.
Born in Mgbom Okposi, Ohaozara Local Government Area of the State, Hon. Tochukwu Okorie was elected the Ebonyi State Chairman of the main opposition PDP in October 2021.
In his resignation letter dated July 4,2025, which he personally delivered to Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha, the ex Ebonyi PDP Chairman said inter-alia "this decision is the outcome of intense consultation with my supporters across Ebonyi State who have expressed growing discontent with the party.
"We feel rather strongly that the party can no longer provided a credible platform for the actualization of our collective developmental, economic as well as political aspirations"
To avoid leaving anyone guessing his next line of action, Hon. Okorie thanked the party for the opportunity given to him to have served them in the capacity of State Chairman, and boldly announced his readiness to support Governor Francis Nwifuru in APC.
He also used the opportunity to extend an invitation to all the remnants of PDP in the state to join him in APC, and support the government in power to move the State forward.
The Ebonyi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) under the able Chairmanship of Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha is very happy with the decision of Hon. Tochukwu Okorie to join the APC.
The APC Chairman therefore congratulates Hon. Okorie for his bold decision and wish to use this opportunity to assure him of a level playing ground in the party.
He enjoins Hon Tochukwu and his teeming supporters to expect a date for their official defection and reception into the party very soon.
It's important to use this opportunity to emphasize that APC Ebonyi State is not interested in content creation and the childish clout-chasing of the opposition in the state. In no distant time, the party will welcome yet another political heavy weight from the same Old Ohaozara into the party. Content creators are however free to continue to massage their own ego.
The APC Chairman once again appeal to political actors in Ebonyi opposition to elevate collective interests of the state above personal ambitions, and come to support Governor Francis Nwifuru in APC for the greater interests of the State.
Prince Chijioke Agwu Special Assistant (Media & Public Affairs) to Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha.
Civil War: Come clean on your deals with Britain, Obidigbo tasks Gowon
Elder statesman and President of Osisioma Foundation, Dr Chike Obidigbo, has advised Nigeria’s former military Head of State, Retd General Yakubu Gowon, to use the remaining days of his eventful life to make peace with God and humanity.
Obidigbo noted that as a Christian the pursuit of such ends should be uppermost in Gowon’s heart at this point in his life’s journey. He regretted that shortly after a former Military President, Ibrahim Babangida, released his autobiography “A Journey In Service,” Gowon had been making confusing and contradictory public statements about Nigeria’s civil war that tend to inspire hate rather than heal the country.
Recall that the Zaria-born former Head of State, had, in the course of appearances in national television talked about the genesis of Nigeria versus Biafra Civil War.
Gowon had pointed out that the collapse of the Aburi Accord and Lt. Colonel Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu’s insistence on regional military command led to the war, adding that at the time of the meeting he had fever and didn’t know how Ojukwu cornered him into signing what he did not agree with.
But, describing Gowon’s explanations as absolute hogwash, Obidigbo remarked that at his age, Gowon should be telling Nigerians the truth and nothing but the truth about the war, just as Babangida did.
“One thing Gowon should be very clear about is the truth. Though Gowon may not have wanted the war, forces beyond him particularly British and Fulani interests compelled him to renege on the agreement entered at Aburi.
“And, until the former head of state makes these facts known through public confession, his soul may not experience peace. Those of us who happened to be a little close to the then Governor of Eastern region, Lt. Colonel Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, knew that Ojukwu never ever wanted that war.
“Ojukwu never wanted Biafra to secede from Nigeria. He made this very clear to a team from the British Embassy in Lagos led by the then British High Commissioner in Enugu, Mr Parker, alongside the representatives of Shell Petroleum, who visited him shortly before the declaration of Biafra.
“They tried everything possible to convince Ojukwu to secede. Ojukwu gave them three reasons why Biafra cannot secede. One was that the Igbo, being very itinerant people, needed the space provided by Nigeria to ply their trade.
“Secondly, he told his visitors that the Eastern region did not have the weapons and armament to prosecute a war, adding that the cohesion in the then Nigeria military would make it odd for the soldiers to confront each other in a war,” Obidigbo narrated.
He pointed out that while the same British was compelling Gowon to reject the Aburi agreement, they made some offers to Ojukwu through the British High Commissioner and Representatives of Shell.
“Britain assured Ojukwu that they will talk Nigeria out of any plan to fight Biafra if Ojukwu agrees to secede. They disclosed that the huge arrears of royalties accruable to Nigeria from Shell, would be paid to Ojukwu in case of any eventuality. “That Gowon is still hiding these facts is very unfair and very unfortunate. As a Christian, he should stop telling lies, and come out plain with the truth of what transpired so that God and humanity will forgive him and create a good passage for him in the journey into eternity,” the Elder states man stated.
While reiterating that Colonel Ojukwu never caused the war, Obidigbo said Gowon’s naivety coupled with the insistence of Britain and Fulani elements in Nigeria forced him to rely on the deceptive false promises of imperialist agents to plunge the country into war.
“Ojukwu informed Gowon that the security of life and property of his people can no longer be guaranteed in Nigeria, stressing that since Nigeria was not ready to go into destruction, let us go our separate ways.
“It is the same Gowon that brought the war down to us and did everything possible with the help of the British to cause massive genocide, such that if it was possible, they would have cleared out everything Igbo on the face of the earth. “It is ironical that the same British that caused total genocide and blockade against Biafra, are crying out that Israel is visiting genocide on Palestinians,” he lamented.
Obidigbo wondered why the former Head of State could not admit that he was a mere puppet of his British and Fulani masters and apologise for his mistakes, instead of opening up old wounds.
He stated, “I think Gowon is doing much harm to himself with his recent public utterances. He should be advised to use the remaining days of his life to package his reputation properly.
“It is regrettable that a man who presided over the affairs of this country at a very young age could not with the benefit of hindsight admit that he was naïve and unprepared for the onerous task that was trust on him.
“He was ill-prepared for the task of managing the affairs of the multi-ethnic new republic that was still held on the juggler by the exiting colonial masters.
“Now, instead of documenting his experiences in a book form, just like Babangida did, Gowon has continued to embarrass himself further by making unsubstantiated claims when most of his fellow actors are no longer available to rebut his claims. “Some people have pointed out that Gowon’s naivety brought the civil war upon Nigeria. His recent utterances seem to underscore the point that he was indeed an accidental leader bereft of purpose or creative ideas to build a nation.
“Nigerians are yet to hear Gowon’s suggestions for addressing the endless bloodletting in his Benue Plateau axis. Rather, he prefers to take Nigerians back to the painful past which was a major contributor to the missed opportunities for genuine and enduring statecraft.”
He noted that with what is currently happening in the former Benue Plateau, Gowon will remember how Ojukwu told him that the way his (Ojukwu’s) people are being massacred for no just cause is the same way his own people will face the music at the appropriate time. “Who knows, he must have been shamed by Babangida’s contributions to nation building exposes his nine years of pogrom, death and division in the country
“Gowon’s current line of reasoning retains the lack of distinction, statesmanship, and poise that defined his nine years of headship of Nigeria’s first military administration.
“I was taken aback when I heard the former Head of State say, in his Arise Television interview, that ‘we just went there, as far as we were concerned, to meet as officers and then agree to get back home and resolve the problem at home. That was my understanding, but that was not Ojukwu’s understanding.’
“As Igbo, we have continued to lick our wounds, but the pain from this continuing attempt to slant the narrative against an innocent people goes deep. Babangida’s book has really pricked the conscience of those who are prepared to confess their sins and seek forgiveness for their attacks on the Igbo people.”
Ebonyi-born journalist and Editor, Wisdom Nwedene has cried out after heavy rainfall destroyed his farm inputs worth over 2.5 million naira despite the economic hardship in the country.
Earlier, on Monday, the journalist had taken to his official Facebook account, Wisdom Nwedene to share pictures and videos of how the Sunday night heavy rain had flooded his farm, covering his heaps and cultivated seeds.
In the video, the planted seeds which had started germinating and growing healthily were being swept away by the overflowing flood.
According to him, the farm located at Igbeagu in Izzi Local Government of Ebonyi State never witnessed such an erosion.
Subsequently, on Tuesday morning, he would share heartbreaking photos and videos of the game completely swept away after the flood looked to have dried.
The inputs; Cassava, yams, vegetables worth over N2.5m were completely destroyed and nothing could be seen.
Some of them that were already growing seeds would be seen hanging in tiny soils holding some tiny roots that wouldn't let go easily.
"I am completely heartbroken. I don't know what to do. I spent money on that farm and now everything is gone," he lamented.
He called on good government and good spirited individuals to come to his Aide.
Some social media users have shared their condolences to him stating how devastating such experience could be over such incident.
A farmer who condoled with him disclosed that "as a farmer", it is not a funny experience. He further calculated how the heaps cost no little money in settling labourers. He also said the seeds do not come freely as one has to buy them and work hard to see them develop to the point the Editor's had developed in the videos and photos of the incident.
In fertility clinics tucked away in various Nigerian cities, a new kind of economy is taking shape—one that trades in the most personal of human resources: eggs and sperm. Often unnoticed, and rarely talked about in public, it is young Nigerians—mostly students—who are fuelling this quiet but booming market, sometimes at a steep personal cost.
Driven by poverty, desperation, and a lack of awareness, many students are turning to egg and sperm donation as a way to make quick cash. The figures vary. Some receive as little as ₦20,000, others ₦50,000 or more. The amount depends on the clinic, the donor’s age, health, and, in many cases, the involvement of brokers who act as middlemen.
For medical experts and legal professionals, what was once a discreet and medically controlled procedure is now evolving into something more troubling—a loosely regulated market where ethics and health risks are often overlooked.
Speaking at a recent press conference, investigative journalist Dorothy Nwankwo raised alarm about the vulnerability of young donors and the urgent need for scrutiny. “Many of these young people are unaware of the long-term health implications,” she said. “This isn’t just about a quick fix for financial hardship. We’re talking about serious ethical and medical concerns.”
A Cost Too High
Professor Omolade Olomola, a family law and gender justice expert at the University of Ibadan, shared a harrowing account of a female student who was taken from Lagos to Abuja to donate her eggs so she could pay her tuition.
“She was told after the procedure that her eggs were not viable and given only ₦14,000,” Olomola said. “No one informed her beforehand that the procedure was intrusive. She was a virgin. She still suffers from emotional trauma to this day.”
Olomola blames poverty and the erosion of moral values for the growing trend. “Many of these students are simply trying to survive. But what they go through is not far removed from the horrors of baby factories. Phones are seized, doors are locked, and the injections begin,” she added.
Despite not being opposed to regulated egg and sperm donation, she stressed the need for strong legal frameworks and better protection for donors.
Call for Regulation
Dr. Bukumi Kolade, Chief Medical Director of Vine Branch Medical Centre in Ibadan, supports stricter regulations. He believes that guidelines must be established regarding who can donate, how often, and under what medical supervision.
“Without a national policy, responsible clinics must self-regulate,” he said. “Donors should not be allowed to donate more than a set number of times in a year or in their lifetime. Each case should be reviewed by an ethics committee within the clinic.”
Kolade likened the trend to blood donation, where commercial motivations often outweigh altruism. “Just as people sell blood for money, people are now selling eggs and sperm. The practice won’t stop overnight, but we must educate them. They need to know what they’re getting into.”
He warned of several potential health risks associated with egg donation, including urinary tract infections, ovarian cysts, and hormonal reactions. “Each procedure may carry a small percentage of risk, but the more often they donate, the more those risks add up.”
Behind Closed Doors
Dr. Olalekan Ogunlowo, CEO of Zenith Hospital in Ibadan, echoed those concerns. He acknowledged that egg and sperm donations are not new, but expressed dismay at how younger Nigerians now see them as a means of survival.
“Young people between 18 and 22 are the main players in this space now. They are being lured in because of money, and some clinics are turning a blind eye to the dangers,” he said. “Some medical practitioners are enabling this because of financial incentives. It’s sad.”
Ogunlowo called for proper regulation and stressed that any legislative intervention must involve medical professionals. “The procedures happen in hospitals, so you can’t regulate without the doctors,” he said.
He explained that repeated donations can have long-term health impacts, such as hormonal imbalances, infertility, and chronic pain. “Some men might end up with issues like early ejaculation or low sperm count. For women, there’s the risk of never being able to conceive again,” he added.
Students at Risk
Public health expert Dr. Abiola Ajibola said students should be made to understand the emotional consequences of donating their fertility for money. “If a young woman donates her eggs and later can’t conceive when she’s ready, the emotional trauma could be unbearable,” she warned.
She called on the National Assembly to intervene with legislation, urging the closure of fertility clinics found exploiting students. “We need sperm and egg banks that are run under strict regulations. Donation should be voluntary—not a trade for survival,” she added.
Presidential campaign posters of Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo, took over major parts of Kano on Thursday.
The posters, which featured a bold image of Makinde, carried the inscription: “To Move Nigeria Forward 2027.”
They were credited to a political pressure group known as Nigeria Youths Awareness Group Makinde 2027 (NYAG Makinde 2027).
The posters, bearing the message “His Excellency, Engr Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makinde for President, Federal Republic of Nigeria,” were placed in strategic locations across the city.
They were spotted along Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), around the roundabout leading to the airport, and at Wappa area, near the former Triumph newspaper site.
Similar posters were also seen at the Dengi Flyover and on pavements around Kantin-Kwari Market, reputed as the largest textile market in West Africa.
Alhaji Lawal Abdullahi, national secretary of the group, said the movement to make Makinde president in 2027 had begun in earnest.
His words: “We have met as different groups and have agreed to have a common front for Seyi Makinde for President in 2027.
“We are a moving train, and there is no stopping us until we achieve our objective of a Seyi Makinde presidency.”
Abdullahi said the group had secured the backing of notable figures across the country.
He said: “We have consulted with prominent politicians and eminent personalities across the country, and we have their support.
“The Seyi Makinde 2027 project is a massive movement that will catch on and spread like wildfire.
“We have completed all necessary arrangements. The posters, billboards, handbills, and other branded materials are ready.
“By next week, in-sha Allah, they will flood the entire Northern Nigeria.
“Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Borno, Yobe, and Gombe will be awash with support for Seyi Makinde next week. Other states will follow subsequently.
“Our movement will take over Northern Nigeria for Seyi Makinde, after which Southern Nigeria will be visited.”
According to Abdullahi, Makinde’s achievements in Oyo made him the right choice to lead Nigeria.
He added: “We have keenly followed his achievements in Oyo State and discovered that he is a focused administrator, someone committed to improving lives. He is the kind of leader Nigeria needs now.”
Tensions ran high on Thursday at the Federal High Court in Abuja as the long-running trial of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, resumed with a sharp rebuke from the presiding judge to the Federal Government, POLITICS NIGERIA has reliably gathered.
Frustrated by the prosecution’s sluggish pace and lack of preparedness, the judge did not mince words in warning the government’s legal team that the court would no longer tolerate unnecessary delays.
“You must pick six days within two weeks and present all your witnesses. If you fail to do so, I will strike out your case as weak,” the judge said firmly, prompting murmurs of approval and surprise from those in the packed courtroom.
The latest hearing began with the cross-examination of the prosecution’s second witness. But what was expected to be a pivotal session quickly unraveled, as the witness struggled to answer questions directly, often repeating “I don’t know” and offering contradictory statements. With mounting concerns over his credibility, the court discharged the witness.
Matters took a turn for the worse when the prosecution failed to produce its third witness. With visible displeasure, the court adjourned the matter to May 28 and 29, and further to June 6, 16, 18, and 19, 2025.
In a bid to move the trial forward, the judge urged the prosecution team, led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Adegboyega Awomolo, to trim down its long list of witnesses. “We cannot continue like this. Reduce your witnesses so this matter can end soon,” he said.
On the defense side, a formidable legal team led by former Attorney General of the Federation, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), came prepared. They presented video evidence to question the integrity of the charges against Kanu.
Among the clips shown in court was a controversial statement by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma. Though the governor had earlier accused IPOB of orchestrating violence in Orlu, the video showed him suggesting the violence may have been politically motivated. Another video featured DSS Director Oluwatosin Ajayi and retired General T.Y. Danjuma, both urging citizens to take up self-defense. The prosecution’s witness, however, declined to comment on these statements, saying it was not within his role to interpret them.
During a tense exchange, the defense pressed the witness on whether there was any direct evidence linking Kanu to criminal acts. The witness admitted he had never conducted any personal investigations on IPOB members and could not present any reports tying Kanu to violence.
In what appeared to be a further blow to the prosecution’s credibility, the witness also acknowledged that he had not responded to an official letter from the Attorney General’s office and had failed to provide any investigation report to the court.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has transmitted the 2025 budget proposal for Rivers State to the National Assembly, seeking approval for a total of N1.481 trillion.
The president’s request was formally presented during Thursday’s plenary session by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.
Rivers State is currently under the administration of a sole administrator, Ibok-Ete Ibas, appointed after the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara by President Bola Tinubu in March.
The suspension followed the escalation of Fubara’s political dispute with his predecessor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
The court ruled the lower courts lacked jurisdiction in the matter. Notably, the tenure of the LP’s last validly elected NWC, which came into office in 2019, expired on June 8, 2024.
In line with a consent judgment brokered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on April 26, 2022, and formally executed between the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the LP on June 27, 2022, the NEC adopted a series of resolutions aimed at stabilising and rebuilding the party.
Key resolutions include mandating the caretaker committee to organise a party convention within 90 days and appointing three Deputy National Chairmen to support Senator Nenadi Usman in leading the NCC.
Others are appointing three Deputy National Secretaries to assist National Secretary, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, filling all NWC vacancies within the interim structure and setting up standing and ad-hoc committees to facilitate congresses at all levels leading up to the convention.
Additionally, the NEC approved the relocation of the party’s national headquarters to a new secretariat in Abuja.
INEC has been formally notified to decommission the previous secretariat at No. 2 IBM Haruna Street, Utako District, Abuja.
In a major mobilisation effort, the NEC also launched a nationwide membership drive targeting 10 million new members within 30 days.
The campaign includes an online registration portal providing members with downloadable, uniquely numbered membership cards.
Physical registration options will also be available, with all existing members required to revalidate their membership and pay an annual subscription fee of ₦1,200. Support groups will be issued registration certificates with unique identifiers.
As part of the road map to 2025, the party plans to conduct ward, local government, and state congresses, as well as delegate elections, culminating in what is expected to be the most inclusive and expansive National Convention in the party’s history.
Party officials say the new direction aims to reinforce internal democracy and energise the LP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
... as sources say he admitted his boss was a disaster
Onyebuchi Ememanka, the former Chief Press Secretary to ex-Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, has dumped his former principal and joined forces with current Governor Alex Otti under the Labour Party. Ememanka, a close ally of Ikpeazu during his tenure, served as his official spokesman.
According to sources close to Otti, Ememanka during the official welcoming to Labour Party admitted that Ikpeazu failed woefully.
Ememanka’s decision follows a period of personal reflection and consultations. In a Facebook post, he shared a picture with Governor Alex Otti and wrote: “Finally, after a series of meetings and deep personal reflection, I have made my decision. A time has come for me to choose a new path for Abia State’s future.”
“I have chosen to put Abia first and prioritize her sustainable development above all else,” Ememanka stated. “I have chosen Otti. I have chosen the Labour Party.”
This development comes after Ememanka resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) last week. In his resignation letter, he cited the party’s failure to address its losses and strategize for the future.
“Remaining in the PDP will make my vision a mirage,” Ememanka explained. “I will always be grateful to the party for the platform and cooperation I received while serving.”
Ememanka’s defection follows a wave of defections by core loyalists of the immediate past governor to other parties signaling early death to his political dynasty.
The defectors include, the Chief of Staff to the former governor, Anthony Agbazuere; a former Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Eze Chikamnayo; a former commissioner representing Abia State in the Niger Delta Development Commission, Chief Chimezie Okoronkwo; former Commissioner for Public Utilities, Chief Eze Nwanganga; former commissioner in Abia State Oil Producing Area Development Commission, Chief Uzo Ihuka; former Commissioner for Environment, Chief Sam Nwogu, and a former chairman of ASOPADEC.
Ex-minister Rotimi Amaechi Reveals Cause Of Crisis Between Wike, Fubara | #Politicsnigeria
The immediate past minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has opened up on the ongoing rift between Nyesom Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and his successor, Siminalayi Fubara.
In a video seen by Politics Nigeria, Amaechi alleged that the sharing of funds is the major culprit in the beef between the minister of the Federal Capital Territory and the suspended Rivers State governor.Political satire merchandise
According to Amaechi, the warring parties need to come publicly and explain to Nigerians the real reason for their rift.
Amaechi said, “Okay, so the fight between the former governor of Rivers State – the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and the current governor is about sharing money.”
“If not what’s the quarrel, the truth is that Nigerians don’t dislike corruption again because I’ve not seen anybody on the streets shouting about what is the quarrel.
“If not can both of them come to the public and tell us what the quarrel is about,” the former governor said.
Speaking on the suspension of Fubara and the declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu, the former minister said, democracy has been threatened.
He also said that the people of Rivers State have been denied the opportunity to enjoy a democratic system due to the actions of the president.
Amaechi said, “And then, we are now denied democracy, so Rivers State is the only state in the country that can’t practice democracy.
“They’ve imposed a military rule on us. Secondly is the fact that the president acted outside the Constitution. Shettima n 188 of the Constitution states how a governor can leave office – either by death, resignation or impeachment.
“It (the Constitution ) didn’t say that one day you’ll wake up and one man called the president of Nigeria will throw you out of office,” he added.
Amaechi said the action taken by President Tinubu in addressing the political crisis in Rivers State makes the democracy of the nation unstable.
Former Rivers State Head of Service, George Nwaeke, has denied claims by his wife, Florence, that he was kidnapped.
Nwaeke stated that contrary to her assertion, he is safe in Abuja where he had gone to voluntarily report himself to security agencies over developments in Rivers State.
In a video released in the early hours of Saturday, the former HoS dismissed his wife’s claim as false, suggesting that she had been misled and given a script to read.
“I am in TRANSCORP Abuja. I arrived this morning from Port Harcourt to meet security agencies and report myself, as well as the troubling events happening in Rivers State. I resigned as Head of Service on Monday because of these developments,” he said.
Addressing his wife’s claims, he added, “I just saw a video of my wife trending. She was told I had been kidnapped and given a script to read. I want to make it clear—I am not kidnapped. I am in Abuja, working.
“When I was Head of Service, my wife was not involved in my official duties. That script she read is null and void. I am safe and sound. I will report myself to the appropriate security agencies because Abuja houses their headquarters, and I feel safer making my report here.”
