Onicha LGA: Open Letter To Gov. Nwifuru By Comr Eze Onyebuchi Chukwu | #IgbereTV Dear Governor Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru. Thank you for your sense of justice, equity and fairness. Thank you for zoning the Onicha LGA chairmanship position to our dear state constituency Onicha East. Your Excellency Sir, it's generally known that the essence of Constituency is for equal Political representation and easy development. Onicha LGA like every other LGA's across the State/Nation has it's own constituencies comprising of Onicha east & Onicha west state constituencies. It is made up of five clans namely: Ukawu, Abaomege & oshiri at it's East and Onicha igboeze, Isuokoma at the West. It's good to know that Ukawu from the East has led two times through chief Innocent Nwali, Isuokoma from West also took their turn twice through chief Donatus Njoku, Oshiri from Onicha East led through Late chief Obasi Nwode, and Isuokoma from West led through Barr. Nwanoke. Going by the above, it is natural and justifiable at this time where the chairmanship position has been graciously zoned to Onicha East by Your Excellency to micro zone it to Abaomege being the only clan yet to lead the LGA since creation. Considering the number of times Onicha West has lead and still leading through Chidiebere Obosi (Hon) from Onicha Igbeze, it is just that you zoned it to Onicha East. Need I tell you that the only clan that has not led in this Onicha East is Abaomege not withstanding her enormous contribution to the oneness and economic growth of the LGA? Abaomege has neither gone for the LGA chairmanship nor the state Constituency Assembly Membership. It's obviously and undoubtedly Abaomege's turn to lead especially as Oshiri is occupying the State Assembly position through Hon Ogba Celestine It's therefore justice for Abaomege to be given a chance to lead the LGA if for no other reason atleast to afford her some sense of belonging. Abaomege has been very supportive to the past and present leadership . Let us not forget her numerical strength which every past leader has leveraged on to win the LGA elections including the immediate past Senatorial bye election. She has also contributed in the economic growth of the LGA via it's huge internally Generated Revenue (IGR). Are we speaking of Human resources? Abaomege has many of her vibrant Sons/daughters well qualified in all ramifications to lead the LGA and very well too. Going by the insecurity in the country , majorly caused by injustice, negligence and denials, its paramount and patriotic for every well meaning Indigene of Onicha LGA to rally round Abaomege by lending their voices to the voices calling for equity and justice for sustainable Peace in the LGA. I therefore call on His excellency , Builder Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru to consider this tiny voice of mine and other voices of wisdom to give Abaomege the chance she sincerely deserves. Let me use this Avenue to encourage all Abaomege sons and daughters to put aside their political differences and personal gains and for the first time speak with a voice as a people. ITS ABAOMEGE'S TURN. Permit me to tag Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru Yours Comr Eze Onyebuchi Chukwu, National Youth Leader, APGA and Spokesman National Youth Leaders Forum of all political parties in Nigeria NYLFPPN. #JusticeForAbaomege #YoursDelaw Source : https://igberetvnews.com/1466761/onicha-lga-open-letter-gov-nwifuru-comr-eze-onyebuchi-chukwu/

"I am Back From Prison And I Cannot Be Subdued Against The People" - PDP Publicity Secretary, Chika Nwoba By Wisdom Nwedene ,Abakaliki The Publicity of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, Ebonyi State Chapter, Nwoba Chika Nwoba has finally issued a statement following his release from Abakaliki Correctional Centre. Our correspondent had reported that Mr Nwoba was released on Thursday afternoon. Nwoba's ordeal started in February when he accused the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Commerce, Oguzor Offia-Nwali of embezzling money meant for hawkers in the State. He was arrested in February following a petition by the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry in Ebonyi State, Oguzor Offia-Nwali. Oguzor Offia-Nwali alleged that Mr Nwoba had in a series of posts on Facebook defamed him, threatened his life and falsely accused him of fraud and diversion of state government funds meant for the empowerment of petty traders in the state. In a statement released on Thursday evening and seen by our correspondent, Nwoba said he is back from prison and will continue to advocate for the right things. Nwoba said he cannot be subdued and efforts to force him post a funny writeup on his Facebook wall will hit the rock. According to him, "I'm back from prison! I thank all the people who showed concerns about my incarceration online and offline. The list is endless. I won't be outlining the names here for reasons of privacy and space, but I'll reach out to everyone who played roles in ensuring that my freedom and wellbeing in prison were possible." "I shall take my time and narrate my ordeals as I'm aware of some distorted facts with regard to my three months of incarceration. One of such was that I was tracked in Awka and picked. A very close friend of mine in Ebonyi released my sister's, worker's and wife's phone numbers to my traducers which led to getting me. Nobody tracked me. A friend I trusted sold me out. The 14 police officers tricked my sister to meet them from where she was coerced into inviting me to a police facility in Awka. That's by the way." "I wasn't abandoned in prison. Tens of people visited me on a daily basis so much that prison people were surprised at my personality. I thank the media organizations that carried my news and made case for me. I thank members of the Ebonyi Prestigious Club for their concerted efforts towards my release. I also thank other civil society organizations and my Facebook community for all that they did for the three months period I was held down. God will bless every one of you. In fact, I'm grateful for all the efforts contributed towards my freedom. I had to stop a protest that was organized by my supporters in Abakaliki for their own safety, a confirmation of the fact that people showed concerns about me. All thanks to those who stood as sureties for me. Thanks to my lawyers for their efforts. Family members and more..." "The three months in prison was worth it. There's nothing to regret about it. It's not true that I was taught a bitter lesson; no, it's false. People rallied round me in different ways. Prison authorities treated me fine. I stayed in a private room well furnished. The police never harassed me from Awka to Abakaliki. My being in prison has given birth to many good tidings for me such that I imagine what would have become of me if I had not found myself in prison. I thank God for my going to prison for the second time. I thank the Ebonyi State Government's fact- finding committee on the hawkers money as chaired by Chief Stanley Emegha. The committee did a nice job in unravelling how the money was retired into private pockets." "God bless all you who showed concerns. I'll continue to advocate for the right things. We can't be subdued against the people. I'm back and much better now to continue from where we stopped. Efforts to force me post a funny writeup on my Facebook wall hit rock." "Thanks, once more." "Tinubu Is Over Taxing US" - Nigerians Cry Out Over Recent Cybersecurity Levy On All Bank Customers' Accounts By Wisdom Nwedene Mixed reactions have trailed recent Cybersecurity Levy which Nigerian commercial Banks have been ordered to deduct from all their customers. 9News Nigeria reports that the cybersecurity levy on all electronic transactions will start May 20, 2024, six years after it first issued the directive. The deductions were to be remitted to the National Security Fund, which is being administered by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA). The deductions were to be effected on all electronic transactions consummated through commercial banks, merchant banks, non-interest banks, payment system banks, Other Financial Institutions (OFIs) mobile money operators and payment service providers. Failure to comply and remit within the stipulated timeframe will lead to a penalty of two per cent of the annual turnover of the institution. On June 25, 2018, the apex bank had released guidelines for the collection of a 0.005 per cent levy on electronic transactions for the National Cybersecurity Fund, directing that the levy will take effect from 1st of July 2018. The directive however did not take off. Candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emerged victorious in all 33 Local Government Areas IN Saturday’s council election in Oyo State, as announced by the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) on Sunday. The results, declared amidst controversy over irregularities during the voting process, were announced at the Conference Hall of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission in Agodi, Ibadan. Mr. Isiaka Olagunju, the OYSIEC Chairman, affirmed the results and declared the PDP victorious after presenting results from all 33 local government areas where elections took place. However, complaints have surfaced from some local government areas regarding discrepancies noticed during the electoral process. These include issues such as the lateness of materials and personnel and the non-availability of necessary materials in some areas. Allegations have also claimed that elections did not occur in certain wards, notably in Ibadan North, Ibadan South West, and parts of Saki in the Oke Ogun axis of the state. Olagunju, while expressing gratitude to all electoral officers, party agents, and security agents involved in the process, acknowledged the need for improvement in certain areas. He stated that a detailed report of the election would be presented to the state government once it is ready. Meanwhile, the African Action Congress (AAC) has expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct of the local government elections and has called for its cancellation. At a press conference held at the party office in Ibadan, the National Publicity Secretary of AAC, Fẹmi Adeyeye, alleged that the Oyo State government did not conduct a credible election. The AAC also called on security agents to release its State Chairman and another member who were reportedly arrested during the election period. EBSU SUG President, Tobias Oshim Reacts Over "3 Million Naira Students Fund", Says Money Still "Intact" By Wisdom Nwedene, Abakaliki The President Student Union Government of Ebonyi State University, Comrade Tobias Oshim has finally reacted to the allegation levelled against him by the Senate over alleged embezzlement of 3 Million Naira fund meant for students. In a statement made available to IGBERE TV on Saturday, Comr. Oshim said the money was never transferred to his personal account as the money is still intact and yet to disbursed to the students. The statement signed by Ibekwe Chibuike, Chief Press Secretary to the SUG President further said that the funds allocated for the payment of indigenous students' bursary school fees are still intact and will be disbursed once the committee issues the disbursement guidelines. He stated that the allegations from the Senate are deemed unwarranted and uncalled for, as they appear to be aimed at defamation and soliciting public sympathy. The statement reads in parts, "Following the allegations leveled against the SUG President of Ebonyi State University, Comr. Nkwegu Tobias Oshim, the President has briefed his team and the entire Presidency this morning with the following key points: 1. The funds released recently, post the university's convocation ceremony, have yet to be decided upon by the union leadership. This discussion was delayed due to the convocation and its aftermath. 2. The funds allocated for the payment of indigenous students' bursary school fees are still intact and will be disbursed once the committee issues the disbursement guidelines. 3. The allegations from the Senate are deemed unwarranted and uncalled for, as they appear to be aimed at defamation and soliciting public sympathy. Claims of embezzlement or misappropriation of funds seem to stem from the unofficial stance of the Senate President, Comr. Usulor Marvelous, who purportedly requested cash disbursement of the bursary. In contrast, the SUG President, Comr. Nkwegu Tobias Oshim, insisted on direct payment to the university account without any cash disbursement. He emphasized his stance with the statement, "No cash gifting this time." 4. Comr. Nkwegu advised the Senate to refrain from continuous defamation and disgraceful actions against the reputation of the Students Union Government of Ebonyi State University. He urged the Legislative Council to adopt an investigative approach rather than relying on unverified claims. Additionally, he suggested that the Senate focus more on advocacy efforts that would enhance the welfare of the union and its student representatives. He also highlighted the Senate's oversight of the fact that the Union Government President still uses a motorcycle and keke to serve the students. In conclusion, the SUG President emphasized that the Senate should not allow themselves to become instruments of defamation for financial gain but should instead prioritize the best interests of the students. No fewer than five persons have been killed and over 70 cars burnt in the tanker explosion at the East-West Road in Rivers State on Friday, April 26. The multiple explosion occurred at the Eleme section of the East-West Road in Rivers State on Friday night. An eyewitness who gave his name as Baridi said the incident followed a petrol-laden tanker which collided with a heavy-duty truck, spilling its contents and bursting into flames. He said the fire spread to a long stretch of vehicles plying the Akpajo-Onne Road following the gridlock which is a usual occurrence on the road now under construction. “You know that because of the bad road, there is no alternative route so many vehicles were caught in the fire,” Baridi told Punch. “Some people inside their vehicles who tried to escape the fire were trapped in the fire and died.” A motorist said: “I was approaching Akpajo bridge when I saw a thick hold-up. While I and other drivers tried to move further we saw people running and shouting fire, fire. “So it was difficult for me even to reverse my vehicle. We meandered and packed somewhere. Only for us to come back and see that more than 100 vehicles were burnt. There are people burnt in their vehicles and some people running were also caught in the inferno.” He blamed the tragedy on the reconstruction of the road which, according to him, had worsened the gridlock. “Yes they are working on the road which is good but they should also create access. Not the way they are doing it. First, they should be fast about it and secondly, the contractor should know that vehicles are using the road. Otherwise, this would not have happened,” he added. Confirming the casualty figure, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, said: “For now about five persons are dead. The Commissioner of Police and his team were on the ground last night to ensure there is no breakdown of law and order.” It was gathered that Governor Siminalayi Fubara would be visiting the scene of the explosion to see things for himself on Saturday.
