PoliticsEFCC Withdraws Case Against Yahaya Bello by Man102(op): 7:00am On Apr 25, 2024
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has asked the Court of Appeal in Abuja to withdraw the appeal it filed to set aside the interim injunction which barred it from arresting the former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello.

In its notice of discontinuance dated April 22, the EFCC said its decision to terminate further proceedings on the appeal, was based on the fact that the initial order a Kogi State High Court made in favour of Bello has been overtaken by events.

Besides, the EFCC admitted that the appeal it brought against Bello was filed outside the time allowed by the law.

A copy of the notice read: “The Appellant herein intends to and do hereby wholly withdraw her appeal against the respondent in the above mentioned appeal.

“This notice of withdrawal is predicated on the fact that; on the 17th April 2024, the application filed by the appellant herein was overtaken by the decision of the same high court of Kogi state in the case of Alhaji Yahaya Bello Vs EFCC- Suit No: HCL/68m/2024, per A. I. Jamil.

“The orders made ex parte by Jamil on the 9th of February 2024 in said suit which is the subject of this appeal, was made to last pending the hearing and determination of the originating motion on notice which was finally determined by Jamil J. on the 17th April 2024.

“Furthermore, the notice of appeal was filed out of time and we, therefore, pray that the appeal be struck out for being filed out of time and incompetent.”

Recall that Bello had, in a bid to stop his arrest, approached the Kogi State High Court to enforce his fundamental rights.

The court, in a ruling it delivered on February 9, issued an interim order that restrained the EFCC from inviting, arresting or prosecuting the Applicant over the subject matter of the charge against him, pending the determination of the suit.

Though the EFCC filed an appeal to set aside the interim order, the court, on April 17, delivered its judgement on Bello’s substantive suit.

Specifically, Justice Abdullahi, in his judgement, said the agency must not move against the applicant in respect of the charge, without the express permission of the Federal High Court.

“Looking at the orders sought by the Applicant (Yahaya Bello), I am inclined to grant them subject to some alterations which in my view will meet the justice of this case, in the following terms;

“An order is hereby granted enforcing the Fundamental Rights of the applicant to liberty and freedom of movement and fair hearing, by restraining the Respondent (EFCC) by themselves, their agents, servants or privies from continuing to harass, threaten to arrest or detain or in any manner whatsoever arresting, detaining or prosecuting the Applicant on the basis of the criminal Charges now pending before the Federal High Court, Abuja to wit; Charge No.

“FHC/ABJ/CR/550/2022 between FRN v. Ali Bello & Anor, without prejudice to the power of the said Federal High Court, to make any Order as it may deem just in the determination of the rights of the Applicant and the Respondent as may be submitted to her for consideration and determination.

“An Order is hereby granted directing the Respondent to bring before the said Federal High Court, or any such appropriate Court, such criminal Charge, allegation or Complaint in respect whereof the Applicant is reasonably believed by the Respondent to have committed any offence subject of its jurisdiction, provided that the Respondent shall not invite, arrest or detain the Applicant on account of a reasonable belief that the Applicant has committed any financial crime, without first obtaining the leave of a superior Court of Record, especially haven regard to the antecedents of the Respondent in the manner it has managed its engagements with the Applicant,” the Kogi state high court held.

The judgement came on a day the Federal High Court in Abuja issued an order of arrest against the former governor.

Bello is facing a 19-count charge bordering on his alleged complicity in money laundering, breach of trust and misappropriation of funds to the tune of about N80.2 billion.

APGA National Youth Leader, Comr. Eze Onyebuchi Chukwu Organises Free Skill Acquisition For Hundreds Of Nigerian Youths

... declares fight against joblessness among Nigerian Youths

The National Youth Leader of All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA and the Spokesperson of the National Youth Leaders' Forum of Political Parties in Nigeria, NYLFPPN, Comr Eze Onyebuchi Chukwu(DELAW), has demonstrated in various ways that kindness is first a personal and/or natural virtue before a political virtue by organizing a free skill acquisition for hundreds of Nigerian youths in various fields of their endeavours.

Comrade Chukwu has also established the Society Well-being Advocate of Nigeria, SWAN where above all he declared a fight against joblessness among Nigerian youths, fight against poverty and criminality.

In a statement made available to journalists on Thursday in Abuja by his Media Aide, Shedrack Evans, said kindness in politics is not a sign of weakness but a testament to strength, courage, and visionary leadership which is why Comrade Chukwu is determined to ensure that Nigerian Youths acquire skills.

He revealed that Comrade Chukwu attaches value to "humanity" irrespective of race, colour, tribe, sex, religion, etc."

According to the statement,

"BEYOND POLITICS: A TESTAMENT OF KINDNESS.

It was Lucius Annaeus Seneca that states thus, "Wherever there is a human being there is an opportunity for kindness".

"The realm of politics often conjures images of conflict, power struggles, and aggressive rhetoric. However, beneath the surface of these dynamics lies the foundational principle of kindness, a trait that, when wielded effectively by politicians, can lead to transformative change and the betterment of society."

" Kindness in politics is not merely about being nice. It encompasses empathy, compassion, and a genuine concern for the well-being of others."

"The impact of kindness in politics is profound and far-reaching. It has the potential to transform political discourse, mitigate conflicts, and foster a more compassionate society. Politicians who lead with kindness inspire others to follow suit, creating a ripple effect that extends beyond the confines of politics into the fabric of society."

"By prioritizing empathy and compassion, these leaders challenge the status quo and demonstrate that politics can be a force for good, capable of achieving meaningful change for the betterment of all. Kindness in politics is not a sign of weakness but a testament to strength, courage, and visionary leadership."

"Against this backdrop, The National Youth Leader of All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA and the Spokesperson of the National Youth Leaders' Forum of Political Parties in Nigeria NYLFPPN Comr Eze Onyebuchi Chukwu(DELAW) has demonstrated in various ways that kindness is first a personal and/or natural virtue before a political virtue. If you see him organizing a free skill acquisition, it is beyond politics, if you see him advocating for the well being of others, it is beyond politics. If you see him do charity, it is beyond politics. If you see him do any form of giveaways, it is beyond politics. It is basically because of the value he attaches to "Humanity" irrespective of race, colour, tribe, sex, religion, etc."

"Prelude to his appointment as the National Youth Leader APGA and the Spokesperson of the National Youth Leaders' Forum of Political Parties in Nigeria NYLFPPN, he has founded the Society Well-being Advocate of Nigeria, SWAN where above all he declared a fight against joblessness among Nigerian youths, fight against poverty and criminality. In June 2019, he registered SWAN and on the 15th of September, 2020, he created a Facebook page for SWAN. On 17th September, 2020, he started to advertise and organize free skill acquisition which many from different state benefited. Last year, 2023, he kicked off the Operation Lend a Hand Movement Nationwide where a lot of youths were trained freely in the skill of their choice."

" If this is what you call praise singing, then you really need to Join the chorus."

PoliticsBREAKING: Submit Yourself For Probe, FG Warns Ex-kogi Governor, Yahaya Bello by Man102(op): 12:04pm On Apr 18, 2024
The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, has called on the immediate-past governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, to submit himself for probe.

Bello is being wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged corrupt practices while in office as governor of Kogi State.

In a statement he signed on Thursday, the AGF said the EFCC is empowered by law to invite any Nigerian for interrogation.

He also described the action of the incumbent governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Ododo, who used his immunity to prevent Bello’s arrest on Wednesday as ‘disquieting.’

According to him, he stands for the rule of law and will ensure no right of any Nigerian is trampled upon.

The AGF said: “The bizarre drama confronting the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the course of its efforts to perform its statutory duty has come to my notice (Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice) as a matter of very grave concern.

“It is now beyond doubt that the EFCC is given power by the law to invite any person of interest to interact with them in the course of their investigation into any matter regardless of status. Therefore, the least that we can all do when invited is not to put any obstruction in the way of EFCC but to honourably answer their invitation.

“A situation where public officials who are themselves subject of protection by law enforcement agents will set up a stratagem of obstruction to the civil and commendable efforts of the EFCC to perform its duty is to say the least, insufferably disquieting. A flight
from the law does not resolve issues at stake but only exacerbates it.

“I state unequivocally that I stand for the rule of law and will promptly call EFCC and indeed any other agency to order when there is indication of any transgression of the fundamental rights of any Nigerian by any of the agencies, but I also tenaciously hold the view that institutions of State should be allowed to function effectively and efficiently. Nigeria has a vibrant judicial system that is capable of protecting everyone who follows the rule of law in seeking protection.

“I, therefore, encourage anyone who has been invited by the EFCC or any other agency to immediately toe the path of decency and civility by honouring such invitation instead of embarking on a temporising self-help and escapism that can only put our country in bad light before the rest of the world.”

Politics“We May Have To Use The Military To Arrest Yahaya Bello” – EFCC by Man102(op): 11:50am On Apr 18, 2024
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has threatened to invite the Nigerian Military to effect the arrest of the immediate-past governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.

POLITICS NIGERIA recalls that the commission invaded the Abuja residence of Bello on Wednesday to arrest him but was met with stiff resistance from the former state Governor.

According to reports, Bello may have been hiding in the Kogi State Government House under the immunity of Governor Ahmed Ododo, his successor, who is covered with Section 308 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

The EFCC has been hunting for Bello, to arrest him over allegation of financial mismanagement while in office as governor. B

Bello was supposed to be arraigned in court this Thursday but the planned arraignment could not take place due to his absence.

During the proceedings on Thursday, Counsel to EFCC, Mr Kemi Pinheiro, SAN, told the court that the commission will drag Bello before the court to face his trial, even, if it means engaging the military to get him.

He said, “We may have to invite the military to move Yahaya Bello out of where he is hiding. “We may have to engage the military to force him out because immunity does not cover him where he is hiding.”

PoliticsGanduje’s Troubles Continue As North Central Stakeholders Push For Chairmanship by Man102(op): 9:49am On Apr 16, 2024
Stakeholders from the North Central region in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are intensifying efforts to reclaim the national chairmanship positions in the party.

The move follows the zoning of the chairmanship seat to the North Central by the party leading up to the 2023 elections.

However, upheavals occurred as Abdullahi Adamu, from Nasarawa State in the North Central, resigned last year.

Insiders within the APC revealed to Leadership that the exclusion of the North Central from the chairmanship seat has caused discontent among some members from the zone.

While the leaders have maintained decorum out of respect for the president, there is growing momentum among them to rectify the situation.

Former national vice chairman of the APC, Salihu Lukman’s recent call for the national chairmanship seat to return to the North Central has garnered significant support from party leaders in the zone.

PoliticsBUA Chairman Assures Nigerians Of Imminent Price Reductions by Man102(op): 9:14am On Apr 12, 2024
Chairman of BUA Group of Companies, Rabiu Abdulsamad, has assured Nigerians that prices will soon start to come down under the administration’s economic policies.

Abdulsamad, who was meeting with President Bola Tinubu to congratulate him on the successful completion of Ramadan in Lagos, highlighted the significant progress that has been made in addressing the country’s longstanding foreign exchange challenges.

“At a time, the exchange rate was almost N1900/$, but today, the rate is coming down to almost N1,200/$,” Abdulsamad announced.

“We knew then that the high rate was due to many factors, including speculation and manipulation, and a lot of people were actually commercializing their dollar,” he added.

The BUA Group chairman praised the Tinubu administration and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for their efforts in stabilizing the exchange rate, stating that “this is the first time in over 30 years that I have seen one exchange rate in Nigeria, so it’s really commendable.”

Abdulsamad stressed that prices will start to fall in the coming months as a result of the improved forex situation.

“So I expect that in a month or two, prices will definitely come down,” he said.

“For example, the price of diesel. The price a few days’ back was N1700/litre, but today, it’s about N1,200/litre.”

He revealed that his company had recently purchased diesel from Dangote Refinery at a rate below N1,200 per liter, suggesting a broader trend of falling prices in the market.

Abdulsamad attributed this positive development to the government’s reform efforts and the collaboration between the public and private sectors.

He noted that a committee has been established to facilitate this partnership, which he believes is crucial for the country’s economic recovery.

“We all need to come together and support the government, her policies. The government means well and they are trying to support Nigeria, but we need to be patient. These reforms will take time, it is not easy and it is not something that can be done in one day, so we are working together,” Abdulsamad said.

Politics“Extend Amnesty Granted To Igboho To Nnamdi Kanu”: Group tells Tinubu by Man102(op): 8:40am On Apr 04, 2024
A call has gone to the Federal Government to, as a matter of necessity; approve the unconditional release of all pro-Biafra activists and other Nigerians incarcerated for self-determination agitations in fulfillment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s promised commitment to a free society.

The group under the aegis of Concerned Igbo Citizens Council made the call in a statement signed by its interim National Coordinator, and interim National Secretary, Comrade Ukachukwu Obioha and Mazi James Okorie respectively, and made available to newsmen in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

Positing that the unconditional release of Sunday Igboho, a pro-Odua Republic agitator and Omoyele Sowore is commendable, CICC insisted that the same gesture must be extended to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and all other Nigerians currently detained for similar activities.

CICC maintained that the continued detention of Kanu and hundreds of Igbo youths over Indigenous People of Biafra activities while their Yoruba counterparts have been granted reprieve by the present administration gives “an unsavory ethnic and sectional coloration” to Federal Government’s action.

Additionally, the group urged the Department of State Services, the Police and the National Human Rights Commission, to as a matter of urgency, commence investigation and compilation of list of those killed, maimed and unlawfully incarcerated for self-determination agitations across board.

It said, “It has become most expedient and imperative to call on President Tinubu to extend the amnesty he granted to two of his kinsmen, Sunday Igboho and Omoyele Sowore to other Yoruba youths held for supporting the agitations of the duo.”

“It would amount to criminal injustice to continue to detain the supporters and fans of Igboho and Sowore since the principal actors have been absolved of any wrongdoing per se.

“We demand also for the unconditional release without any further delay, of Mazi Kanu and all Igbo and Eastern Nigerian youths currently detained for belonging to or supporting IPOB.

“We urge the DSS, Police and NHRC as well as other relevant government and non-governmental bodies to compile and publish comprehensive list of those killed, maimed and unlawfully incarcerated or displaced for identifying with self-determination agitations across the country.”

Insisting that it is out to mobilize Nigerians across ethnic lines to stand up and assert their rights to a free society, CICC called on Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Igbo governors and all others calling for the release of Kanu, not to forget his countless lieutenants being persecuted, in the quest for his release.

Politics“Abure’s Life Under Threat” – Labour Party Raises Alarm by Man102(op): 7:58am On Apr 04, 2024
The Labour Party (LP), on Wednesday, alleged that the life of the party’s national chairman, Julius Abure, is under threat.

This was the position of the party after an arson attack on the Abuja residence of Abure.

National Publicity Secretary of the party, Obiora Ifoh, who made the allegation in a statement in Abuja, said that Abure escaped “an assassination attempt at his residence.”

According to him, “His (Abure’s) residence was also gutted by a mysterious fire which started a few minutes after 1 am while Abure and his family members were asleep.

“According to a family member who narrated the incident, the family was woken up by neighbours and security men living in the compound who raised the alarm.

“The entire family was trapped as the inferno reached the staircase, making it impossible for Abure and the family to escape.

“However, it took divine intervention for the national chairman and his family to escape after neighbours and security men gallantly pulled down one of the windows upstairs, making way for the family to escape.

“Men of the Fire Service arrived shortly after Abure and his family were evacuated.

“Abure and his family were rushed to a private hospital where they are presently receiving treatment. Their condition is, however, stable.”

PoliticsSunday Igboho Sues Gani Adams For Defamation, Seeks N500 Million Compensation by Man102(op): 6:28am On Apr 04, 2024
Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has sued the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, for allegedly defaming his character.

This was seen in a court process filed by Igboho’s lawyers led by J. A. Sanusi.

The court document on Wednesday shows the suit was filed at the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan.

The separatist leader prayed that the court should award a compensation of N500 million against Gani Adams for the alleged defamatory statements against him.

Among others, Igboho prayed for an order of the court “for the payment of exemplary and aggravated damages in the sum of Five Hundred Million Naira (N500,000,000.00) in favour of the Claimant for defamation of the person of the Claimant by the Defendant. Cost of litigation put at the sum of Ten Million Naira (N10,000,000.00)”.

Igboho said that Gani Adams accused him of being a serial killer and assassin for top politicians, including President Bola Tinubu, in an audio conversation in 2021.

Igboho denied the allegations and urged the court to declare the content of the audio clip as slanderous against his character.

Igboho said it is “unlawful, inappropriate and inexcusable for the Defendant to defame, disparage and put to disrepute the character and reputation of the Claimant in an audio clip published on all new media platforms, including YouTube, in a publication that took place between the Defendant and a third party, Mr Nuru Banjo, sometime in November 2021 or thereabout.”

Igboho also prayed for an order of the court “directing the Defendant to engage all new media platforms, including YouTube, to take down the slanderous, libellous and defamatory content against the Claimant as said by the Defendant to a third party, Mr Nuru Banjo, from their various new media platforms.”

It asked the court to direct “the Defendant to tender an unreserved apology to the Claimant in five National Newspapers in Nigeria over defamatory content against the Claimant by the Defendant who has been published on all new media platforms, including YouTube”.

In addition, Igboho asked for an “order of perpetual injunction restraining the Defendant, his agent, privies or assigns from further scandalizing, assaulting, embarrassing, degrading or defaming the person of the Claimant.”

PoliticsWhy Peter Obi Dumped Julius Abure – Labour Party Chieftain, Tanko by Man102(op): 6:40am On Apr 02, 2024
A chieftain of the Labour Party and chief spokesperson for the Obi-Datti campaign organisation, Yinusa Tanko, has reacted to the crisis rocking the party.

In an interview with ChannelsTV, Tanko noted that the crisis could have been prevented if the leadership had taken the advice of Peter Obi, the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections.

Tanko said the recently concluded national convention of the party which returned Julius Abure as the national chairman was not all-inclusive.

“His Excellency, Peter Obi, has made a concerted effort in trying to intervene at any point we have this particular issue and trying to improve,” Tanko said.

“When the issue of the national convention came up, he (Obi) suggested to the national chairman that because we are bigger now, we need to have a wider consultation: meet with responsible and interested people such as the TUC and NLC, stakeholders, the Obidient group – young generation people who are interested in seeing Nigeria work. Meet with leaders who have different ideas that can midwife us into a greater height.

“All of these were the suggestions that he (Obi) made, and not only did he make those suggestions, he practicalised them because he met with the members of the National Assembly.

“He (Obi) met with the leadership of the party recently in Asaba trying to give them ideas on how he thinks certain things could be done and you could improve our situation but of course, you know how politics is, sometimes, people may be trying to encourage people, but they do something different.

“You can only take a horse to the river, but you cannot force it to drink water, so that’s exactly what Peter Obi has done, he has done so greatly to see if we can find a solution to some of the problems we find ourselves.”

He said while Abure has the right to contest the national chairmanship position again, it was only proper that the right things are done by opening the door for more people to be part of the process.

Tanko stressed that Abure breached an initial agreement to have an all-inclusive national convention which ought to start from the ward, local government and state levels before the national level.

He said that the convention that returned Abure as the party’s leader “did not conform with that agreement” and therefore was “not acceptable”to everyone within the party

Asked if the crisis in the party could be a problem for Obi in the next election, Tanko said “Obi is a brand of his own and that he and other people will always move with him wherever he goes to”.

PoliticsThere Are Ongoing Efforts To Secure Release Of Nnamdi Kanu – Deputy Speaker by Man102(op): 6:31am On Apr 02, 2024
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has revealed that there are ongoing efforts to secure the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB).

He said while legal processes are underway, concerted political solutions are being pursued behind the scenes to ensure the release of Kanu.

Addressing the issue during a special edition of “The Ben Kalu’s Mandate,” a radio program on FLO FM in Umuahia, Abia State, Kalu said a deliberate approach was being taken to achieve the objective.

He clarified that the Peace In South East Project (PISE-P), an initiative he recently launched to address security challenges in the region through non-kinetic measures, remains committed to reconciliation, including involving Nnamdi Kanu in the peace agenda.

His words: “The PISE-P has reconciliation in the mix of what we are trying to achieve. We recognize the importance of our brother, Nnamdi Kanu, in the peace agenda we are pushing. That’s the truth. And I have been very vocal about it. I am not hiding it.

“I have always told people that I will never deny Nnamdi Kanu. He’s my brother. We come from the same place, and I will never be happy having him incarcerated when we can have him out and increase our pursuit towards peace.

“But we may not advance all the things we are doing backdoor, but I can assure you that all the powers-that-be in this country know that people like us are not sitting on the fence. I don’t know about the next person but I am talking about Benjamin Okezie Kalu. I am not sitting on the fence about it. I am lobbying.

“We cannot go about this before the court. I am more interested in using a political solution towards resolving this. So, I am asking for one or two things from the federal government.

“The last time I was with Mr. President, I discussed with Mr. President on the need for the elders of Igbo land to come, sit and engage with him. And I know that one of the topics that will come up there is this our brother.

“We will also thank him for all the good things, the appointments he has been giving to Igbo people. So, while the court is doing what they are doing, I will not truncate legal processes, but some of us are not afraid to identify with him and to ask for him to be released.

“Any other thing can follow up after that. So, that is what is going on at the moment, and those who are close to him will assure you we are working closely on this mandate. Is it achievable? The answer is yes.

“And I am happy with the statement that he made the last time he was in court. He said all those who are causing violence are not IPOB people, that anybody who is using his name to be causing violence is a hater of Ndi Igbo.

“Look, Igbos are not known for violence. We are known for trade, being creative. Call it Nollywood; we are the engine room that started the creative industry. We are not thieves, not known for violence. We put our energy towards creating wealth.

“We are not life killers, and anybody coming now to introduce what is strange to us, it’s either the person is not an Igbo man, or we should question where he is coming from.”

Politics“Caution Your Mad Political Dogs” – Ganduje’s Aide Warns Soludo Over Attacks by Man102(op): 5:36pm On Apr 01, 2024
The Senior Special Assistant on Public Enlightenment to APC National Chairman, Oliver Okpala, has called on the Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, to rein in his ‘political attack dogs’.

Ganduje, at a recent colloquium, organised by the South East chapter of the All Progressives (APC), called on Anambra and the entire region to join the ruling party to end many years of exclusion from the centre.

The comment attracted the anger of some All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) adherents, who have been attacking the APC national chairman.

Speaking on the issue, Okpala described those attacking Ganduje over the comment as uncouth and misguided political misfits who should be called to order.

His words: “There is need for them to appreciate the gesture of Ganduje and not see his intervention as negative.

H“is aim is for the economic development and political inclusion of Anambra State to move into the central national politics and nothing sinister as now being portrayed by the overzealous APGA attack dogs.”

“The eminent politician who gave such advice should not be vilified or insulted as they have now resorted to. Instead, he should be praised and commended for his suggestions on how the region can overcome its age-long political backwardness and economic inhibitions.

“For Ganduje, the target should be how Anambra state can experience exponential growth through being integrated into national politics given its enormous resources and not empty, bitter wrangling.

“These criticisms and attacks against him are uncalled for. The issues he has raised do not pit him against Anambra State, but the matter is about the policies of the state government vis a viz their inclusion at the centre to fast-track their progress – principally, the economic benefit of the people.

“For those now attacking Ganduje as a person, they should know that the APC national chairman did not attack any Anambrarian, but he only proffered possible solutions to the condition of the state, a move with the aim to better the situation of the common man in Anambra,” he said.

He described his boss as a nationalistic leader who cares for all segments of the country.

He said: “Coming from another region of the country to empathise with the people of Anambra is in itself a hallmark of leadership transcending ethnic or regional sentiments. That Is Ganduje for you, a detribalised and nationalistic leader.
“So, he should be appreciated for his concern for them to be redeemed from their economic and political backwardness and not derided. He should be encouraged for taking interest in the affairs of the Igbo with a view to engendering their socio-political fortunes.

“Ganduje is not against Governor Soludo or any Anambra man for that matter; he even captioned his comments as the way forward for Anambra and the South East as a whole, as he also described the Anambra governor as his personal friend.

“So, why these unnecessary attacks on his person, integrity, credibility, family and image by political charlatans in APGA?

“Governor Soludo should call these misguided boys to order and advise them on how not to address an elder. He should caution these mad political dogs who lack a sense of decorum.

“How do you describe a man who has seen it all in Nigeria’s political landscape as being ignorant? This is a two-time governor of a state, and a political leader with over 35 years experience in politics and the current national chairman of the ruling party of the country.

“We need to ask those who are attacking Ganduje what their pedigree is, what is their antecedents, and what they represent. Our nation clearly does not need such loose canons.

“It is shameful that it is lost on them that this is the first time, a national leader of a political party is coming to identify and empathise with the people of the South East, Anambra in particular, on how they can be better integrated into national politics and thereby enjoy more bounties of democracy.

“He should not be insulted but seen as a partner in progress. He should be given accolades, especially coming from another region. It shows that Ganduje is a bridge builder across the nation. That kind of politics is what we need now in Nigeria.”

PoliticsNigerians Loot Govt, Private Warehouses As Hardship Bites Harder [VIDEO] by Man102(op): 11:37am On Apr 01, 2024
Some residents of Kebbi have broken into private and government-owned warehouses in Brinin-Kebbi, the state capital, and looting hundreds of items stored in the facilities.

The incident reportedly occurred on the evening of Saturday, 30, 2024.

This comes amid widespread hunger and hardship in the country occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy and fall of the naira.

The looters were said to have targeted a government storage facility located in the Bayan Kara area, successfully overpowering the security forces on guard to make away with essential food items.

The spree of theft extended beyond government stockpiles, as private warehouses and retail stores in the vicinity also fell victim to the raid.

A truck filled with a variety of grains, which had broken down and was intended for distribution within Birnin Kebbi, was likewise plundered.

The current wave of looting in Kebbi State follows similar incidents in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and Suleja in Niger State, highlighting a growing trend of desperation amid difficult economic times attributed to the removal of petrol subsidies and the naira’s flotation.

“They forced their way in and looted the government warehouse and some of our shops,” said Muhammadu Gwadangwaji, chairman of the Bayan Kara Market food vendors association.

He added that several shops and warehouses were set ablaze by the looters.

The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Nasir Idris, Ahmed Idris, described the incident as unfortunate.

“The hoodlums had earlier attacked the consignment of food items that was brought to the state for distribution to the people by Dangote before going to the government warehouse to loot it,” he said.

“Such incident has never happened in Kebbi before. The food items they looted are part of the foodstuffs purchased by the state government for distribution to people of the state.

“Government has procured and distributed assorted grains worth over N5 billion in over 200 trucks. It is unfortunate those who broke into the warehouse had gone there to steal what belongs to people of the state.”

PoliticsNingi’s Suspension : South West Senators Ask Akpabio To Stay Firm by Man102(op): 11:08am On Apr 01, 2024
The lingering crisis in the Senate between loyalists of the President of the upper legislative chamber, Godswill Akpabio and Northern lawmakers has shifted to governors and other political leaders from the North.

The crisis that led to the suspension of Senator Abdul Ningi from Bauchi Central Senatorial District started weeks before Akpabio emerged as President of the 10th Senate in 2023.

On March 12, 2024, the Senate, led by Akpabio and three South West senators, namely, Opeyemi Bamidele (Senate Leader); Adeola Olamilekan (Appropriations Committee chairman); and Jimoh Ibrahim from Ondo State, suspended Ningi for accusing the National Assembly of padding the 2024 budget to the tune of over N3 trillion, despite attempts by some Northern lawmakers to rescue him.

Bamidele, Olamilekan and Ibrahim, all from the South West, led the push for the suspension of Ningi.

Almost three weeks after the suspension, Daily Sun reports that ranking senators from the North and some governors, have now stepped in to mediate and resolve the lingering crisis in the upper legislative chamber.

A senator from the North West, who is one the key facilitators of the peace move, said the issues would have been resolved without suspending Ningi if the three lawmakers from South West, Bamidele, Olamilekan and Ibrahim had not mounted pressure on Akpabio to act.

The lawmaker said some governors who were worried about the ethnic dimensions of the crisis reached out to Akpabio to apply caution and recall Ningi, who they said has the backing of leading politicians from the North.

He, however, revealed that when Akpabio tabled the issue before his close allies, especially lawmakers from the South West, they were opposed to it, insisting that Ningi must serve out his suspension despite an existing court judgment that a lawmaker cannot be suspended for more than two weeks.

“Akpabio had to ignore them and has resolved to recall Ningi. Ningi has a support base, and many Northern senators and leaders see the suspension as an attack on the region. But some people want to maintain their ego and they feel they control what happens in the Senate.

“Very senior senators from the North reached out to Akpabio. Former and serving governors also reached out and informed him about the dangers of bringing ethnicity into the chambers, as demonstrated by the Leader of the Senate, Opeyemi Bamidele.

“Akpabio has a task. There are many things the Senate plans to do, and if you have a divided house, nothing will work there.

“He knows this and had to find a good excuse to get out of the mess those three South West senators put him in. So, that letter by Femi Falana written on behalf of Ningi is a good excuse,”
the lawmaker revealed.

PoliticsINEC Disowns Labour Party Convention by Man102(op): 9:42am On Mar 28, 2024
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disowned Wednesday’s Labour Party (LP) National Convention in Anambra.

Rotimi Oyekanmi, the chief press secretary to INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu, said this when he spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Thursday.

Oyekanmi said that the conduct of the convention was not monitored by INEC, declining to state further why its officials stayed away from the exercise.

NAN, however, reports that the LP shifted the convention from Umuahia in Abia to Nnewi, Anambra State, on Tuesday.

Speaking on the venue change, the LP National Legal Adviser, Kehinde Edun, told journalists that the party had duly informed INEC about the change in venue and date.

“No, it is holding in Anambra. Nnewi to be precise, not Umuahia in Abia State again. In fact, Umuahia was not even the first venue we chose. Benin was the first choice before we changed to Umuahia and now Nnewi.

“So, we are at liberty to pick any venue of our choice. We only need to inform INEC about the change in venue and the time,” Edun said.

PoliticsMichael Aregbesola: Nigerian-born US Naval Officer Dies In Red Sea by Man102(op): 7:09am On Mar 26, 2024
A Nigerian-born US naval officer, Michael Aregbesola, has died after falling overboard in the Red Sea.

Aregbesola, 34-year-old Aviation Machinist’s Mate 2nd Class, was assigned to the “Swamp Foxes” of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 74.

He was deployed aboard the USS Mason, which has been operating in the US 5th Fleet area of operations since November.

The circumstances leading to his fall are currently under investigation, but initial reports suggest it was a non-combat-related incident.

Aregbesola joined the US Navy in July 2020 and reported to HSM-74 in December of the same year.

Before his recruitment, Aregbesola experienced a prolonged period of unemployment.

He expressed gratitude to the US Navy for recognizing his potential and providing him with an opportunity that his country of birth did not.

Commander Eric Kohut, the commanding officer of HSM-74, praised Aregbesola’s character and contributions.

“Petty Officer Aregbesola fully embodied the selfless character and thoughtful warrior spirit of the United States Navy Sailor,” Kohut said.

He also highlighted Aregbesola’s exceptional performance, not just in aircraft maintenance but in his broader role within the ship/air team.

“He will continue on in the heart of every Swamp Fox and our brothers and sisters in the IKE Carrier Strike Group,” Cmdr. Kohut added.

The US Navy has not released further details about the incident pending the outcome of the investigation.

However, they have reassured the public that they are taking all necessary steps to understand the events leading to Aregbesola’s death and to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

PoliticsFG Files Tax Evasion Charges against Binance by Man102(op): 10:38am On Mar 25, 2024
The Federal Government on Monday initiated proceedings against Binance, a prominent cryptocurrency exchange platform over tax evasion.

The charges were filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja by the Federal Inland Revenue Service.

In the suit with number: FHC/ABJ/CR/115/2024, FIRS implicated Binance with four tax evasion accusations adding that it was a decisive move aimed at upholding fiscal responsibility and safeguarding the economic integrity of the country.

Joined with the crypto company as second and third defendants in the suit are Tigran Gambaryan and Nadeem Anjarwalla, both senior executives of Binance currently under the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The charges levied against Binance include non-payment of Value-Added Tax, Company Income Tax, failure to file tax returns, and complicity in aiding customers to evade taxes through its platform.

In the suit, the Federal Government also accused Binance of failure to register with FIRS for tax purposes and contravening existing tax regulations within the country.

One of the counts in the lawsuit pertains to Binance’s alleged failure to collect and remit various categories of taxes to the federation as stipulated by Section 40 of the FIRS Establishment Act 2007 as amended.

Section 40 of the Act explicitly addresses the non-deduction and non-remittance of taxes, prescribing penalties and potential imprisonment for defaulting entities.

The charges further detail specific instances where Binance purportedly violated tax laws, such as failing to issue invoices for VAT purposes, thus obstructing the determination and payment of taxes by subscribers.

“Any company that transacts business in excess of N25 million annually is deemed by the Finance Act to be present in Nigeria.

“According to this rule, Binance falls into that category. So, it has to pay taxes like Company Income Tax (CIT) and also collect and pay Value Added Tax (VAT).

“But Binance did not do this properly. So, the company broke Nigerian laws and could be investigated and taken to court for this infraction,” Adekanmbi said.

FIRS, by the law setting it up and various others, is empowered to assess, collect and account for revenue accruing to the Federation and administer relevant tax laws.

Binance pleaded guilty to flouting anti-money laundering laws in the United States in late 2023, settling for a plea bargain that cost the company $ 4.3 billion.

PoliticsLabour Party Crisis Escalates As Peter Obi, Obidients Reportedly Dump Abure by Man102(op): 6:54am On Mar 25, 2024
The crisis rocking the Labour Party (LP) has further escalated as the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, and his supporters, known as Obidients, have abandoned the party’s national chairman, Julius Abure, to his fate.

According to reports, the move is not unconnected to the internal crisis rocking the party structure since the 2023 general elections.

After a series of legal battles with the factional chairman of the party, Lamidi Apapa, Abure has been in the news over alleged financial impropriety and other disturbing issues.

According to reliable sources, Comrade Isaac Balami, a former Deputy National Campaign Manager to Peter Obi/Dati Presidential Campaign from the northern region, may take over from Abure.

An insider quoted in the report that some party leaders and chieftains have had a meeting and suggested Belami as the party’s next National Chairman.

When contacted, Balami said he was “under pressure to run for the chairmanship of the party”, but that there are issues on ground still stopping his declaration.

According to him, he doesn’t even know whether the convention will be held as scheduled as “there are forces fighting against the unity and progress of the party”.

He added: “But then, I can’t refuse or turn down a request coming directly from the youth constituency of the party.

“You know they were instrumental to the change in the political narrative and advancement of the Labour Party in the last election, so we can’t joke with their position.

“I truly appreciate their commitment to the success of our party and I won’t take their call for granted.

”In a couple of hours, we shall make our final decision on this matter.”

PoliticsNingi’s Suspension Shows Senate Is Involved In Mass Looting Of Nigeria - Arewa by Man102(op): 6:52am On Mar 22, 2024
A Northern group, Arewa Movement for Good Governance (AM2G), has accused the Nigerian Senate of partaking in the mass looting of the public treasury.

The group made the allegation in reaction to the Senate leadership’s suspension of Senator Abdul Ningi.

Ningi, who represents Bauchi Central, was suspended for three months over allegations of N3.7 trillion padding of the 2024 budget.

The group’s convener and former member of the House of Representatives, Dr Usman Bugaje, said at a press conference yesterday that it was unfair for an issue of such magnitude to be swept under the carpet without a thorough investigation to prove beyond doubt to the Nigerian public, who ostensibly elected the senators to represent them, that the lawmakers were not culpable.

To this end, Bugaje noted that the nation’s democracy cannot deliver development with the kind of National Assembly in place.

His words: “The National Assembly is an accomplice in the mass looting of the public treasury that has today become the budget process.

Meanwhile, Nigerians are impoverished and marginalised; they struggle to survive with no hope for improvement.

“Now, we can see why we spent billions of dollars in electricity without a substantial increase in megawatts of electricity, and the culprits are going scot-free; why our economy has been shrinking and ending up in shambles; why our youths cannot find jobs; why our country is on this dangerous trajectory, heading for the rocks; and why this country, under this rogue politics, has no future at all.”

He urged Nigerians to raise their voices and demand accountability from their leaders, pointing out that the decision to suspend Ningi was a total violation of his fundamental rights.

“Suspension of Senator Ningi appears to be a panic measure that violates the principles of representation in a democracy. It is clearly an evasive move to distract attention from the issues raised.

“It is also unfair for an issue of this magnitude to be swept under the carpet without a thorough investigation to prove beyond doubts to the Nigerian public, who ostensibly elected these senators to represent them that the senators are not culpable.

“From the video clips shown by the media covering the NASS, we found it intriguing that after the suspension, and as Ningi was walking out of the chamber with the heap of evidence in his hands, no senator appeared to show any compunction.

“This suggests a conspiracy of silence in the supposedly hallowed chamber, or is it a chamber of shame? It apparently did not occur to the Senate that they were judges in their own court, or worse still, they were the prosecutors and the jury at the same time.”

PoliticsTinubu To NASS: Allow My Ministers Breathe & Do Their Jobs, Stop Summoning Them by Man102(op): 8:38am On Mar 21, 2024
President Bola Tinubu has appealed to members of the National Assembly to exercise restraint in summoning heads of ministries, departments, and agencies before parliamentary committees.

Speaking at the breaking of the Ramadan fast on Wednesday in Abuja with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and the leadership of the House, the president said while oversight is essential for maintaining transparency and accountability in governance, excessive summoning of officials can disrupt operations and hinder service delivery to citizens.

He, therefore, urged lawmakers to show discretion in the exercise of their oversight functions.

”I have been watching various committees summoning ministers and heads of agencies. I have complained to the Speaker to let the poor breathe. Let these people do the job. We are not saying that you are not influential. We are not saying you cannot do your oversight. But consider the primary duty of each agency, its personnel, or the responsibilities of the Governor of the Central Bank or the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance to you and the entire nation.

”If they are distracted or disturbed, maybe we will shift parliamentary sitting all through the night. We must find a way to accommodate one another. This is an appeal to you. See if you can accept representatives in some instances or even documentations,” the president said.

Expressing confidence in the ability of the National Assembly to uphold good governance, President Tinubu lauded the existing cordial relationship between the executive and the legislature.

He said the harmonious working relationship had resulted in the expeditious passage of several bills to improve the welfare of Nigerians.

He urged the legislators not to forget their constituencies and to take advantage of the holy month of Ramadan to show compassion and support the less privileged in society.

”We are making sacrifices for the country, and we are assuring citizens that there is a very bright light at the end of the tunnel.

”We must have faith, and please do not forget your constituencies and remember what they are going through.

”I cannot thank you enough for what you are doing, but it is for our country. There is nothing personal about this. It is for Nigeria, and we have no other country but Nigeria,”
the president stated.

On the recent dastardly killing of soldiers on national duty in Delta State, the president while expressing his heartfelt condolences to the families of the bereaved, pledged that the sacrifices of the fallen heroes would never be in vain.

The president announced that the officers would be given a befitting burial and national honours.

”In responding to distress calls, they met the end of their lives in a savage manner. Let us work to sympathize and symbolize the fact that they are worth the sacrifices they have made for Nigeria.

”We salute all our men and women in uniform, and we sympathize with them. I will soon make further pronouncements, but they must have a befitting burial and national honours,” the president said.

In his remarks, the Speaker emphasized the importance of forgiveness, generosity, and prayers during Ramadan and called for unity in the nation and support for President Tinubu.

”I want to urge us to use this month to increase our good deeds and minimize our bad deeds,” he said.

Reflecting on the 10 months of this administration, the Speaker noted that the executive and the legislature have continued to work in synergy for the progress of the country.

”So far, so good, the House has been very supportive of the President and his policies, and we shall continue to ensure that we work together,” the Speaker said.

PoliticsAtiku’s Ambition Is Affecting The Growth Of PDP – NPSA President, Hassan Saliu by Man102(op): 7:59am On Mar 21, 2024
The president of the National Political Science Association of Nigeria (NPSA), Prof. Hassan Saliu, has accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of stifling the growth of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Atiku was the party’s presidential candidate in the 2019 and 2023 elections, and there are indications that he will contest again in the 2027 polls.

Speaking to Punch, Prof Saliu said, “Atiku’s ambition is affecting the growth of the PDP. We follow the debate and the controversy.

“The issues in the PDP before the presidential primary, and even after the presidential primaries, those issues are still there. They have not faded away.

“So, the only way to give PDP a semblance of unity is for Atiku to drop his ambition. There are too many issues surrounding Atiku’s ambition.

“Given his age, if he comes out to contest for president under the PDP next time, I don’t know what will happen to the PDP before that time. But I am assuming that decision may not go down with people at PDP. It is time for Atiku to look at the political temperature and advises himself accordingly.

“Atiku’s interest will not supersede the interests of the PDP; each time this man emerges as a presidential candidate, there are always issues that will eventually affect the chances of the party. This is the right time for Atiku to allow the PDP to breathe fresh air.”

PoliticsBREAKING: NLC Shuts Labour Party Secretariat, Demands Abure’s Immediate Sack by Man102(op): 1:34pm On Mar 20, 2024
The ongoing conflict between the Nigeria Labour Congress and the leadership of the Labour Party took a new turn on Wednesday morning as NLC members stormed the LP secretariat to protest the party’s national convention planned for end of this month.

The NLC has also demanded sack of the LP National Chairman of the party, Julius Abure, over alleged corrupt practices.

The NLC leadership accused Abure of planning to hold a “secret convention” without the inputs of major stakeholders.

The NLC has also ordered its state councils and political commission to picket Labour Party secretariats across the country.

This directive was contained in a letter dated Tuesday, March 19, and signed by the chairperson of the NLC Political Commission, Titus Amba, and the secretary, Chris Uyot.

According to the letter, the directive is coming after a meeting of the NLC National Political Commission and the leadership of the NLC State Councils and State Political Committees, which took place virtually on March 19, 2024.

That given the intransigence of the National Chairman of the Labour Party to unilaterally hold a National Convention of the Labour Party, financial rascality and contempt for the leadership of the NLC, the NLC State Councils and State Political Committees should mobilise workers to picket all the State Secretariats of the Labour Party, scheduled for Wednesday, 20th March 2024,” the letter partly read.

Recall that the National Working Committee of the Labour Party had accused Joe Ajaero, the President of the NLC, of making desperate attempts to replace Julius Abure, the Labour Party National Chairman.

The allegation was a response to an open letter written on Friday by the political wing of the NLC, the Nigeria Labour Congress Political Commission.

The letter raised allegations against Abure and the NWC, claiming that they had put forward plans for a national convention in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, on March 27.

The convention was said to be aimed at re-electing Abure as the sole administrator of the Labour Party, with concerns of secrecy surrounding the event.

The political wing of the NLC deemed the planned convention illegal and is demanding the immediate resignation of Abure as the party chairman.

They are also calling for the formation of a caretaker transition committee to organise a legitimate and all-inclusive national convention for the party.

However, the LP leadership strongly opposed the directive, alleging that it was driven by Ajaero’s supposed desire to become the next national chairman of the party.
