Clickemmy: Collinsfbi how u doing bro. I have got my SAQA, I also have my certificate evaluated by the department of higher education and training in which i was given REQV 15 (professionally qualified) i also hold a provinsional membership certificate of South Africa council of Eductors(SACE) I do hear and i know that some nigerians teach in public schøols though i have never been opportuned to meet one. Pls do u know d procedures of applying for teaching jobs in SA. I have also submited my phd thesis proposal @ UP but i need to get a teaching job

In order to apply or secure teaching jobs in SA, you would have to register with South African Council for Educators (SACE), its the regulatory body for all teachers in SA. You need to only submit your credentials at their office, they will accredit you and give you a teaching certificate. That will then enable you apply and secure teaching jobs in SA.
check out www.sace.org.za

There are always teaching jobs advertised every now and then in print and electronic media. Alternatively, check Department of Education, they always advertise.

I hope this answers your question.

You will find detailed checklist of required documents in previous pages as posted by Collinsfbi. Just read through.

You can then apply for a Work Permit when you land SA. But be warned, Work Permit requirements is herculean, you would have to meet so many rules before qualifying for the permit.

umall41: @Manager007 thanks again, your contribution has been helpful.

My reason for saying how much I av is not to flaunt but for your perusal, in case I need more or if that is enough, for visa + ticket + accommodation+ and etc, b4 getting a job in SA.

Thank u

I did not query your disclosal of funds. It's your prerogative.
In sayin so, N1 M, is quite a hefty sum, but may not necessarily get you far in SA. SA is expensive, but this depends largely on the neighborhood you choose to live. I don't know the current airfares from Naija, but if you would be payin for accomodation, be prepared to pay around R2,000 per month if you want to live decently comfortably. This alone means, you would be spending 50% of that N1 M on accomodation for the year.

Food is cheap, so u wouldn't spend much on that. Your lifestyle is what matters, e.g if you wanna go to bars, clubs, or general entertainment, this will determine howw far your money takes you.

However, if your fiance will be accomodating you, you would save greatly and can channel your money into other useful ventures that may be of interest to you wherever you live in SA. Just don't play "baba ijebu with your money" ha ha!

Regarding jobs, its not exactly automatic in SA and largely because your nationality will always preceed u wherever you go in SA. It may seem difficult at first when you arrive, but, you will find your feet in a matter of months(dependin on how adaptive you are).
Once you have obtained your Spousal Permit after your marriage, appproach recruitment agencies for employment.

umall41: Dear Nairalanders, I'll like to commend u on d great work u 're doing here, your time and contribution is highly appreciated.
My question is what is d best, easiest and fastest way to get SA PR?

I am a graduate with HND in computer science, and I av practical knowledge as networking engineer, PC Technician and web site developer.

I av a fiancé in SA (south african) who is waiting for me to come down and marry her

Plus, I av #1,000,000 in my account for d process

Should I travel as a tourist first or business visa or is there a way I can apply directly. My mission is to settle in SA with my fiancé and b financially stable.
I've never travel b4.

Scammer b warned.

Thanks in advance

Either way, there's no shortcut to securing PR.

You may choose to travel to SA on a Tourist Visa and get married and file for a Spousal Permit, you should be prepared for the Immigration rules on foreigner/SAC marriage by the Home Affairs since last month. Both of you would have to be interviewed separately on your relationship history before being allowed to marry.

Alternatively, she may come down to Nigeria, get married to you, you enter SA on Tourist Visa and immediately file for Spousal Permit with your Nigerian Marriage Certificate.

It takes 5 years before you can secure Permanent Residence if you take the Spousal Permit route.

Note: you do not need anyone's help in applying and obtaining your spousal permits, you can do it yourself. Go to the Home Affairs website and read through documentation required.

With your practical knowledge as networking engineer, PC Technician and web site developer, you should be able to secure employment FAIRLY easily. Your best bet would be to register with recruitment agencies wherever you live in SA.

Goodluck!

@Ziggz,

All the previous advice provided by past commentators like Collinsfbi etc should not be taken with pinch of salt as they are valuable.

You are still eligible to travel to any country in the world in spite of your convictions in the States.

I'm also of the opinion that you should use your current passport. To eliminate castin doubts, simply tick sections where it asks "if you have ever been convicted of crime in any countries visited in past". A simple tick of "yes" to answers in this column is all that stands between your proposed immigration endeavors. That way, you are not witholdin information, yet it doesn't almost mean u are inadmissable to enter SA for purposes of visit.

I wish you all the best brother. And to all those aspiring to apply for SA visas in Nigeria, I wish everyone goodluck!

Food is very cheap so you may be able to work around with your spendings on that.else, accomodatioon is expensive, so its best to share.

smileyPappy2000,

Since you have made up your mind about relocating, i cannot but wish you all the best in your endeavour.

For starters, you need to consider your accomodation options. Accomodation is very expensive in this country. Depending on where you want to live, i wont go into details anymore as i have discussed that in prior conversations/post. in some cases, that entire N600knaira with you is what you will spend on accomodation in one year for one room here in SA. So do not be fooled into thinking N600k naira will sustain you in SA. Revisit Collinsfbi's quotation.

You need to set aside some amount to procure a permit as per your circumstance, and the amount varies. You will figure that out when you get here.

Jobs are not a guarantee anywhere in the world, but everybody's fate differs, who knows, you may succeed where others fear to thread.
Anything is possible with God on your side.

Only one warning i must give to you, as i would tell my own brother, DO NOT PUT HOPE OR RELY ON ANY NIGERIAN FRIEND, BROTHER ETC HELPING YOU OUT ENTIRELY" This is because, they also may be struggling. Just find one sweet southie babe who dey find husband, who go house or feed you..[

I wish you all the best.

Pappy2000,

firstly, every human being has a right of migration. you are entitled to freedom of movement. Wherever you choose to go is entirely up to you provided you do so properly and seek adequate knowledge about the country you are migrating to.

Collinsfbi has been very generous by telling you the absolute truth about possible relocation to SA to seek greener pastures. Yes, its true that SA's economy is better than Naija's. its also true that there are so many opportunities here as compared to Nigeria. However, the fact that you are a Nigerian will definitely count against you in this country.(i mentioned this in one of my earlier post). You may even begin to feel this Naija-phobia from the moment you disembark from the plane at OR Thabo airport in Johannesburg from the Immigration official.

The main reason why things may be difficult here for is simply because of your nationality and largely because you are an African Immigrant. SA isn't friendly to immigrants from other parts of Africa, except of course for countries like Botswana, Namibia etc. Nigerians, especially are the most feared of these immigrants laregely because of what some of our brothers who arrived SA so many years ago have laid a bad precedence. When you mention Nigeria, the first thing that comes to mind is Drugs, Fraud,Forgery and all other nefarious activities. It has become common thing to read and watch Nigerians being burst for crimes in newspapers and on tv. Sometime ago, some naija guys were burst by the elite Hawks unit for the "UK lotto scam" where they had taken money from an unsuspecting school principal, but still wanted more and asked her to meet her in a hotel..also, another was shown on tv for doing "wash wash money" and even claiming his father is a minister in Nigeria and taught him the fraud.

You can get SA work permit with or without hassles, but thats the first hurdle. I guarantee you, whenever you apply for jobs (especially blue-collar jobs), you will scrutinized more than the other candidates for being a Nigerian.

All SA can offer you is a relative stable electricty, food (yes, food is cheap), modest living and women. Southie women just love their Nigerian men.. When you arrive, you go see..

Another thing, you should know since you say you wanna use SA to transit to other countries, its no longer so easy, because foreign embassies here have also been hit with forged docs submitted from some scrupulous naija applicants, hence, when you present your naija pali, they will scrutinize all docs you submitted throughly before deciding to issue a visa to u, if they feel you deserve.

Botswana, may be a rich country, but it depends largely on SA economy. lots of Botswana students are sponsored by their government to come study in SA and they all (in most cases) always return home after studies. Even if you have Botswana visa, at the port of entry or border, be ready for thorough questioning from immigration official as to why you are visiting their country. Botswana women are beautiful, and they like naija guys so much, strictly because of our sexual prowess (like they claimed), but be mindful that they also have a high HIV incidence rate as well. one thing is sure, if SA has nothing to offer you, be sure there's nothing happening in Botswana for you. Except studying.

Things can only become slightly simpler if you study and complete a degree in this country. You should be able to get a decent job in that regard. Lots of naija people are employed in good-paying sectors like engineering, medicine, education etc. While, a large majority are engaged in trading or hussling to survive. A trip to Sunnyside in Pretoria will convince you. Or visit Hillbrow in Johannesburg. A lot Nigerians started like you with high hopes of making it in SA upon arrival, only to regret wasting so much money not properly investigating their immigration plans. Boys go tell you here.

With the N600k you have, why not visit and buy things for immediate sale in naija upon your return?

Naija no easy, and alot of things is messed up and i dont blame you for wanting to leave the country. It's not a bad idea actually, but why not visit SA and see things for yourself? You can decide the way forward from there. A lot

But then, the decision rests solely on you.

I didn't know part of my post was largely missing.only just realized now.I'm on lunch break at work and can only type few lines as I'm using my phone.

I can only post excerpts from SA's govt homepage regardin the matter. Pls see paragraph 3 of the SA Citizenship. Ammendment Bill.

The South African Citizenship Amendment Bill will, among other things, ensure that:

A child born to a South African parent inside or outside the country is a South African by birth as long as the child is registered according to South African law.

A child born of non-South African parents but adopted by South African parents is a citizen by descent.

A child born of non-South African parents in South Africa, may, at the age of 18 years apply for naturalisation. While he or she is a minor, such children will retain the citizenship of their parents.
A child with no claim to any citizenship will be given South African citizenship in accordance with international law and practice.

Alternatively, you can visit the Goverment's. Homepage directly by clickin this link
http://www.info.gov.za/aboutgovt/home.htm

I do know for a fact that citizenship can be attained, although the stipulated 18, the clause provide or allows "minors" and in this case, under 18 are minors, hence they are eligible to apply for citizenship.

The process takes almost a year, hence itts best to apply on the child's 10th birthday. I have people that I know and have assisted to secure this citizenship benefit for their children.

And, like I said, even children of refugee status parents are eligible to apply under certain conditions.

You are more than welcome to verify all of these information by walkin into any Dept of Home. Affairs, inquire at the Citizenship Room/unit, and if u meet a knowledgeable attendant, u will be informed accordingly.

Have a nice day!

morpheus24:

I did, which is why I am asking for the provision in the law that stipulates a child can acquire citizenship after 10 years. I have worked with many refugees in SA and never came across that law for their children that were born in the country.

However, your child will not be granted automatic SA citizenship unless either you, or your wife is a South African citizen or have Permanent Residence in SA. Your baby will however be issued a SA Birth Certificate, and eligible to receive full citizenship at age 10.

Mr. Morpheus, pls don't be angry but do you understand English very well? The reason why i asked is not to insult you but point out the facts, even when Justwise hinted you to that regard, you failed to read the bolded exceprts of my post, which again. I have copied above.

I said a child born in SA cannot become SA citizen unless either his father or mother is a SA citizen, or if either of them has a SA permanent residency, in this case, the child is entitled to automatic citizenship. Yes, you can quote me on that one. However, if both of them are neither of the above, then the child is only eligible for citizenship status after 10yrs, this is bec

Did I mention refugees? And speakin of refugees, are u aware under certain conditions, refugees in SA can file for permanent residency? Especially after residin in SA for no less than 5 years? And as such their children can become citizens of SA.

Again, I do not mean to insult you sir.

There's no immigration law anywhere in the world that forbids any age from travellin. Even infants travel. So why wouldn't a 21year old MAN be allowed to? You can definitely apply brother. Also, nothin stops you from applyin for a visa even if your passport was only issued few weeks before your travel. A passport is simply a "travel document", the most important thing is the expiry date on your passport and not daate of issuance..if you have noticed, a lot of embassies always stress that passport must be valid for at least 6 months before intended travel date.. So, no lele bro, go apply.. But, do so with the right documents and I wish u all d best!

Although you can enter SA on a visitor's visa and then apply for a Study Permit once you are inside SA. But you need to know that, you will still be required to submit the same docs as required by the embassy in Nigeria.its the same process. Besides, some times, your application may not be so successful if u apply whilst visitin SA.

So, if I may advise, why not appplyy straight from Naija and give yourself peace of mind by securing your study permit once and for all?

I do not want to release my e-mail address. Whatever inquiry you have, please ask publicly so other Would-be immigrants can benefit.

However, to your last qquestion, bar, waiterin and security jobs can mostly be found anywhere especially in large cities like Pretoria, Joburg, Cape Town etc and predominantly in university towns. Eg: uni of Pretoria, all d bars in that area are in constant need of waiters etc..

Salary, is another issue though. As some don't pay you salary, but you get commissions/tips from daily sales, whilst others pay monthly like fast food joints like kfc, nandos, wimpys etc

Yes, you are right, Sunnyside area is known for its notoriety.

I wasn't aware that you had your tuition sorted. Nevertheless, should you find employment, it would suffice to pay rent and feeding. But then, you should be aware that accomodation area and type is totally dependent on you and what you want.

I cannot however give you estimated time for finding job in SA, as each individual plight differs from another. For me, I got a job 3 weeks upon arrivin this country, but some other folks haven't found any even after 2years!

With regards to BTA, I didn't mean u should come with only 500 usd, all I'm sayin is , its not wise to carry so much cash on u..rather preload a mastercard or have it transfered from Nigeria prior your entry to SA

Congratulations on securin admissions with one of best universities in SA!

With regards to securing jobs with a M.sc, it depends largely on your chosen field. However, do not expect to pay your tuition or living expenses via part time employment.Jobs are scarce in this country, and your Nigerian nationality will definitely count against you in most ccases where you apply for employment. Note:I never said you won't get employment, I said will be difficult.

Living expenses varies.UP is situated in one of the most affluent suburb in PTA hence be prepared to pay rents. Otherwise, you may choose to reside in other places like Arcadia, Sunnyside, where rent is slightly lower and you can find a huge dominance of the Nigerian population in these two places. Budget for a minimum of N40, 000 naira monthly for a room rent(incl electricty and water).

Regarding BTA, you do not need carry large amounts of cash with you. Minimum of $500 would do. You could explain to the Immigration official in JHB regardin why u chose to hold this amount. In most cases, they won't even ask you.

One last word of advise,

More weird cultures yet- to-be revealed. Keep your fingers crossed
Culture / Re: What's Are The Weirdest Culture In The World? by Manager007: 12:31pm On Sep 07, 2009
In some parts of Papua New Guinea (1), an aspiring bride worth her sugar must, as a matter of rudimentary courtesy, sound parental up-bringing, and solid character, have sex with every man in the village as part of their traditional wedding protocol, in order to affirm her dignity and also guarantee her fertility, in strict conformity with their cherished, rich, and ancient culture! Meanwhile, in another part of the same Papua New Guinea, members of the Dani ethnic nationality rarely have sex. By tradition, in order to acquire sufficient respectability, newly wedded couples must wait for as long as 5 years before they copulate.

In Cooks Islands , located in the South Pacific Ocean, older married women have the exclusive statutory and civic duties of routinely introducing, initiating, instructing, grooming, and practicalising the science and art of advanced reproductive dynamics with teenage boys. Their religion cautions them that repeated indulgence in less than three (3) solid "rounds" per 24 hours, ultimately leads to acute schizophrenia.

Eskimos in Northern Canada and Greenland have drastically simplified the process of wedding. Marriages are arranged at birth  Eskimo law demands that marriages can only be deemed official if, and only when, such couples start copulating. At the exact moment of their debut pre-marital sexual experimentation, they are automatically translated to the realm of graciously married husband and wife. No further ceremonies are needed, or may even be tolerated by their strict marital ethics and etiquette. Different strokes for different folks. Different lanes for different brains. Simple!
