Manager007: Yes sir, my advise remains the same. I have to let you know, applications made in Nigeria and by Nigerians are treated differently and not always like what VFS website states. Its almost always assumed you are running away from Naija. Furthermore,When you are on Doctoral Studies at SA universities, it's always considered that you are in the university's employment since you will have an office, teach(possibly) receive stipends and awards etc. That puts you in a good stead for your wife and kids application. As far as i know(but you can research or ask around further) your wife will have to apply for Accompany Spouse Dependent Visa(This is simply the same as Relatives Visa). If your kids are of schooling age and you want them to school whilst here in SA, then get admission letter (even if its from a creche/kindergaten school) and use that to obtain Study Visa for them. But if not, you can always just include in their mom's application and you can sort out their schoolin when they arrive. If you have further questions pls ask 1 Like |

sewpabee: @Sewpabee, No need being doubtful when deed has been done. In this case, you have already submitted your application. So thats water under the bridge now. I dont think your visa will.be denied if indeed Microosft SA attested they'd be responsible for your stay in SA, your application motivation letter should have accompanied that document reiterating that Microsoft is responsible for your travel costs. Anyways, you can only wait and see |

Johny2015: @Johnny2015 As an applicant from Nigeria, best advise would be for you to finalize your initial PhD Study Visa application as a sole applicant. However, on the forms, you would note your wife and kids details on forms. I believe there's a section saying or asking "if they would be travelling with you" Just choose NO. Once you have secured your Study Visa, travelled to SA and fully registered and enrolled at your educational institution, then send the following documenta to Nigeria for your wife and kids to apply: 1. Your passport and visa page(Certified copies) 2. Proof of enrolment at Educational institution 3 Your SA bank statements 4. Proof of accomodation- school residence(not the best in this case) They will issue them a Visitor Visa most-likely for the duration of your program(But it wont exeed 3 yeara) If you need further assistance, please ask All the best 2 Likes |

Anfieldboss: @Andfieldboss, ECSA isnt the only Engineering Regulatory body in South Africa and seriously they delay candidates evaluation for up to 6 months. There's another one and it's also recognized for your evaluation and membership. I will ask my friend and i will let you know. 1 Like |

Hello Justwise, Can you please explain to me why you banned me from posting, responding etc after i replied to the Nairaland user drmorphine's query? If i have contravened the Nairaland forum rules, please let me know where and how, because to the best of my knowledge, this nairaland user asked for information regarding staying close to his proposed university and i did say once he has sorted his travel plans and have a date to come to South Africa, he should let me know and i am willing to assist him with his accomodatipn quest. Have i erred by tryin to assist someone? More specifically, this isnt the only Nairaland user that ihave assisted whilst here in South Africa. 1 Like |

lawyerbabs: That's cool. Which of the campuses are you studying? I was on South Campus. Once you graduate, you will miss that place for the rest of your life. One advise i can give to you and same goes for any student currently studying in South Africa, please network as much as you can with within your academic circles, i.e European, African, American Asian counterparts, not just mingling amongst your Nigerian hubs. If possible, stay in International Student Residences. Attend workshops, conferences, Study hard, and dont be afraid to party hard as well. for you need to strike a wholesome lifestyle. You will be surprised how your networks will open doors when you need it. I am a living proof to that testament, which is why i also try to assist people wherever i can. All the best |

everyevery: Well, for M.sc Computer Studies (Research), my best advise in terms of fees and funding opportunity at this time is the University of Fort Hare in Alice, Eastern Cape. you could occasionally visit East London ( The city closest to Alice) for naija foods etc. It's a nice place and you will get funding. But, my advise is to apply early. They are needing candidates at this time who fit in their areas of Research interest. And, their fees are quite reasonable and living expenses is minimal. www.ufh.ac.za Cheers 1 Like |

Nadratan: That is not for initial Relative Visa Application. That is for permanent residency based on 5 year of being together. If you and your current partner have been together for 5 years, and lets say you and currently, on a study visa, then by all means go ahead and apply for permanent residency. As long as you can show proof of 5 years relationship. One idea is if she's a dual citizen and Nigerian, lets say you both had been dating since college or secondary school day etc. |

abdullahi45: When you mentioned that you plannin on undertakin Postgraduate studes in those places, then University of Free State comes to mind and i assume that's where you are headed. Bloemfontein is a very vibrant city and one advantage it has over Grahamstown (in your case) is that you could get part time jobs in Bloem. Grahamstown is very limited in that aspect. I must bring to your attention, UFS is notoriously alleged for its language racism. My man, a UFS lecturer in some cases may render a class entirely in Afrikaans( similar to Dutch) knowing fully well there are non-Afrkaans speakers in that class. They even have English and Afrikaans lectures sepearately. But, this was some years ago and things may have changed. When it comes to choice of where to study in these two cases, it depends largely on the type of person you are. If you are laid back, sociable and not wantin the city vibe then by all means choose Rhodes University. Food is cheap in Bloem and you can access more economic opportunities there as compared to Grahamstown. When you get to SA you will understand. What else would you like yo know? |

Nadratan: Actually, it's either of the two. But you will never know with Department of Home Affairs, so i would advise you to fulfil all righteousness and have both of you fill and certify that DHA form by a Police officer. Thereafter, you will have a lawyer draft a Notarial contract for Life Partners for you. You both swear and sign to that instrument and you are good to go. Relative visas are normally always issued for 2 years. |

Nadratan: I can authoritatively inform you that if you submit just that Islamic marriage certificate for your Relative Permit, your application will be automatically rejected. The reasons being muslim marriages are not recognized under SA laws. Muslims in CapeTown are still trying to get this bill passed. Under SA laws, you are both recognised as Life Partners. Which enjoys the same benefits of a Marriage visas as well What you should do, is first to both sign an Affidavit before a lawyer or use the DHA form 1712-A , attesting that you are both over 18 and in a cohabitation, and in a relation that exclude other other parties and that you will or are already sharing bills. Sign that form and take to a lawyer or get it certified and signed before a police officer at a Police Station. Thereafter, include a letter explaining why you married in the Islamic way and submit your application. I can guarantee you, only then you will be issued a Relative Permit. Very important to note, on any forms or the VFS, you are NOT applying for a Spousal Visa but a RELATIVE Visa. The are two different things. Spouse visas are for those who are married either in Court or under customary South African marriages e.g paying lobola etc. The issuance of a Marriage certificate in this case gives you full right to apply for Spousal permit. If you want to work, study or conduct your own business with that Relative Visa, then include relevant documents which will come with conditions to either Work, or Study or Conduct Business Spousal visas and/or Life Partner Visas are now called “ Visitor’s Visa ( 11(6)- To accompany spouse and work/study etc If you have further questions, please feel to ask Al the best 2 Likes 1 Share |

abdullahi45: What exactly would you like to know about those places you mentioned? To start with, Free state is but a province and not a city. You would need to mention a spefic city in FS so i can advise you adequately about life in that city. Grahamstown is a small town in the Eastern Province. It's a very nice place and one or my favourite places in SA. The only thing(s) keepin that town bubbly are the Rhodes University and Thr Grahamstown annual Art festival. Its a university town so everythin is centered around that varsity. You will love livin there. Food is cheap. Weather is bearable but extremely cold in winter because its surrounded by mountains. But accomodation is not so cheap hey? Its only about one hour to Port Elizabeth which is the bigger city where you can buy lots of things includin naija foods. Grahamstown will offer you good security but nevertheless be cautious in some dark areas of that town. Racism is everywhere includin SA. There are good people black and white as well as bad folks too. But what i have found is that white folks in Grahamstown are generally more receptive than the ones in Free state and i think its bevause of the British influence dominant there. Lots of beautitul girls there and you will think you are in paradise. I have good memories of that place. |

drwrites: Hello, Who is the person relating this useless information to you? Police clearances are required visa purposes only from places where applicants have lived or even visited. So why would a police clearance be required from an applicant who has never stepped foot on SA soil? You only need to obtain police clearance from Nigeria. Don’t be misinformed. Keep well 1 Like |

abdullahi45: Hi Abdullahi, Scholarships for international students (such as yourself) is very competitive and not guaranteed. SA is going through a Fee-reduction phase nationally, and priority is given to South African students. That being said, your best chance at securing a scholarship if to first enrol/register for your studies at the international office. In most cases, just before the end of your first semester, there would be calls for applications to various scholarships and bursaries. You can then apply for such. There’s even a needy-based student bursary that most universities advertise. But only on their enrolled students portal. All of these would not be available to a non-registered student as yourself in the beginning. However, it’s a flip story on the Msc studies. You will get funding/scholarship/bursary especially after your first semester of studies. Your program Microbiology is lucrative in SA. Try to enrol and study. It will be your best self-investment you will ever make, Keep well. |
