drstranged: I wonder why people are blaming the state of Nigerian roads on the mishap. The mishap was obviously self inflicted. Driving recklessly at unimaginable speeds to such an extent that you can't manoeuvre away from a trailer is completely reckless. Even in developed countries the risk of such accidents from reckless driving is high. The case of Diogo jota and Paul Walker comes to mind. Please people should be mindful not to get sentimental over this because he's a superstar driving in Nigeria. I'm not saying Nigerian roads are the best but let's at least try to be objective in assessing stuffs like this. If this had happened to an ordinary Nigerian, you guys would have reversed the accusations by accusing that Nigerian driver of reckless driving. that road is one of the best currently in Nigeria, rebuilt by Buhari. The accident was caused by overspending. The impact on that car was too much. The speedometer must be above 200 for that impact. |

Why will you allow friend who is not used to Nigeria roads drive you along Lagos - Ibadan express road. money sometimes makes us over do. Non of them reside in Nigeria. Why travel Nigeria roads without a professional Nigerian driver? God rest the dead. |

mascot87: I knew a clown will definitely find a way of insulting the country. Most of the developed world you worship and have become a slave to aren't on the list but you ignored it and insult the country as usual and typical of you people. One thing I am sure of is that no matter the insult and demarketing you people give to this nation, the people that will prosper and excel in it will definitely do so. I am sure even if Nigeria is on that list, you would have also complain and nag about the position it would be. And even if Nigeria were to be on number 2 position, you would have insulted the country on how S.Suden is leading Nigeria. And if Nigeria were to be on the number one position, you would have called the list FAKE. So in all, you people are just terrible and I no really rate una.
And Mr. Man, you can move to S.Sudan. You aren't obliged to remain in Nigeria since the past, present and future condition of the country is making you unsuccessful in your endeavours. Oga where is the result of the reforms starving Nigerians? Una talk too much. |

lawani: For example how can an account turning over one hundred million naira a year avoid tax if government wants to make it pay? Such an account can not avoid the tax. Those who can avoid tax are small holders. Then start paying tax now because dependence on oil can not last forever and Nigeria can break up anytime wetin this taxation go cause. Has there not been taxation in Nigeria before now? There's no business in Nigeria that doesn't pay tax, either to the local govt or state. But you taxing cashflow is another dimension entirely. For every increase in tax on a business, the price of the average commodity or service rendered goes up. The final consumers bear the brunt of taxation. You don't tax cashflow you tax profit. So if my business has cashflow of 1bn, you tax the cashflow not minding I make profit or not, then at the end of the year you still tax my profit. Absurd. |

Though Nigeria remains underdeveloped irrespective of the current economic stand the concentration in Lagos at the detriment of other states is becoming alarming. Nigeria can never develop in this manner. Lagos is already buoyant to stand alone, why not invest massively in other states to enable competition. |

U go explain tìrẹ, ẹ no add up. Did you factor in the 90bn expended on hajj into your jargon? Pls remind me again the remuneration of senators and top govt officials. nairalanda1: You guys don't understand the main reason why we borrow.
We borrow because 80% of government revenue comes from crude oil revenues, which come from below 2 million barrels per day, which is not enough for a nation our size.
We also borrow because tax to gdp ratio is 10% which is below the 20% or more we need before we can see something. At state level, it is as low as 2-3%. Low revenue, means more and more borrowing to meet up
Subsidy was eating far too much of the income we were making, and also creating a massive debt that was also eating a lot of the income in servicing, on top of past debts. Subsidy removal freed up more money, but...and this is important...IT DID NOT INCREASE OVERALL INCOME.
So, until we recieve sense, vote out tinubu, and vote in our own version of China's deng, or south korea's park who will take our economy off resource dependency, forget about never needing to borrow.
Even our budget, on top of borrowing is SCANTY. 54 trillion naira in the new year, that means 270000 naira per person per year. The effing sad thing is that corruption even reduces that money self. |

Aren't we borrowing even with the subsidy removal? Where then is the gain of the subsidy money nairalanda1: Not everyhting is greedy and greedy officials
If we kept subsidy, by now national debt would be at levels that would be intolerable, the government would have run out of money to pay for things, anything, even paper for the government office, and salaries would have stopped being paid. And there would be no refinery producing for the nigerian market...because it won't be profitable,
Plus all of you shouting subsidy is paid in other countryes...you want to pay subsidy on top of the very low tax to gdp that we have? Na invitation to borrowing.
Before una start, tinubu was a hypocrite in 2011for opposing subsidy removal, and we were warned as far back as 1988 that subsidy had to go. If we had kuku commot the thing in 1993 self, by now we would have had enough private refining, and all the NNPC refineres would still be working.

My street here in Ondo State is currently dominated by northerners. They have turned every corner and uncompleted buildings to shacks and residents. Their kids are everywhere, they don't attend school. Early in the morning they are already roaming about the community scavenging for scrap iron and water bottles. The US should involve NATO in the whole set up, if they dnt want to give security guarantee...
The US security guarantee is all about sanctions... It won't work this time around as Russia will plan ahead in how to manuevour them..
It's military retaliation that's will work, not sanction this is a very weak deal and will empower Putin the more. A deal without full military protection is a failed deal for Ukraine. |

GanagiBitrus: Nothing good about the question. If you have 2good teams in same group, only one qualifies. The other will inevitably not qualify. I think the world should adopt the south American pattern currently used in champions league, where every team is in a single pot. We play against each other, and the top 16 teams qualify. Dividing teams into groups ain't fair. Some get easy groups while others get very very hard group. |
