Music/RadioThe Worst Lines Ever Used By Musicians In Songs by mantosa(op): 3:38pm On Jan 14, 2020
Lyricism and songwriting are the most outstanding qualities ever shown by musicians but there are still hideous and erroneous feats made by the so-called musicians in songs. You would wonder if those songs were properly vetted by mixers and A&R executives before they passed on to marketing and licensing departments of record labels. Independent and upcoming musicians making these blunders in lyrics is forgivable but when superstars make these errors, we should stripe them off charts, awards and achievements especially if there is an expectation behind the brand. Recently, we have seen trolls on the rise about how superstar musicians have messed up a good song just because they were not apt in their lyricism. In rare cases, flops are allowed in lyricism if the song is unfinished or a comedic type.

Missy Elliot

Missy Elliot is still one of the best female hip/hop breakouts in the history of music. At a young age, the female rapper struck relationships with the best songwriters and producers in music especially Timbaland but that did not stop her from embarrassing herself on ‘Work it’ as she shrieked these lyrics confidently: “Take my thong off and my ass go boom!”. This is definitely an incoming tsunami.

Naira Marley

The Nigerian Popstar had a great year in 2019 but in that same year he made lines which found their way into the Nigerian pop culture notably one that music lovers can remember from “Soapy”:

“Inside life, go to the five 5 alive.” It is forgiven as the song became a nationwide hit even with the controversy surrounding the singer.

Coldplay

“Lights will guide you home, and ignite your bones.” Did Coldplay ask fans to ignite their bones? Did the lead singer tell fans that the lights will lead them home after a show? So many things must be going through your mind also. But “fix you” is a hit nonetheless.

R.Kelly

Music lovers have cancelled Robert and we are here to remind you about one of his lyrics we can never forget – this same line brought traces about his sexual crimes from “You remind me of something” and here it is: “Girl you look just like my car, I wanna wax it.” How on earth did a girl end up looking like a car? Was she made in Vietnam?

Davido

Davido’s attempt to flow in rhythmic pattern in revival single “If” failed and we are still shocked that none of those people in the studio failed to correct this line: “My number one itutu sipping burukutu”. David’s lover must be a drunkard.

Music/RadioWhere Are Our Women, Our Divas? by mantosa(op): 10:25am On Jan 09, 2020
Last week, I had cause to look at my perceived poor collaborations among Nigerian female entertainers. In the said essay, I expressed worries over the sad development, noting that one of its resultant effects is that it’d reduce the output of the women in the game, blur their shine and send some home too early. Reflecting on that essay now, I thought deeper to behold, to my astonishment, that what I predicted has already been happening, only that we didn’t see my point as one of the reasons.

It is true that Nigerian entertainment industry is operating on a very high velocity. It is also true that the industry is speeding on a fast lane where the weak is pushed down to crawl on the sidewalks. But I am certain that on that fast lane, there are handrails for those with weaker spirits to cling on. I mean, in that speeding train, there are places for the feeble minded to cling on, only that the culture of sisterhood hasn’t been made manifest like that of brotherhood, because as there are weak female musicians who need pushing to go forward, there are even more weaker male musicians who we don’t see their weaknesses because they have brothers watching their backs. The ladies, sadly, hardly ever watch one another’s backs, even when I agree that the industry is male dominated and have a masculine face; yet, it hasn’t stopped any woman artiste from climbing to the pinnacle where the men are.

So, in the light of the above stated concerns, I’d love to ask; where are the likes of Kel, who wowed us with “Waa Wa Alright”, where is Mo chedah of Knighthouse Entertainment, Stormrex of Penthauze (whom we thought would take over the industry with Phyno behind her), Splash with her krunk raps that had us all looking towards a sustained hip hop career, Emma Nyra of the Triple MG fame, the controversial Cynthia Morgan, Ruby Gyang of Loopy Records/ Chocolate City fame, etc. These ladies left music in their prime, with either just one album or few singles and we never really heard from them again.

Omawunmi and Waje are managing to sustain their presence with their friendship which is paying off, slowly, and of course we know that Weird MC, Blaise and Bouqui also left too early, even though they may be classified under the women legendary category, judging from the time they came and left, however, we may exclude Blaise from whom we neither got an album nor sustained couple of singles.

The likes of Chidinma, Aramide and Mz Kiss are just there, like, just there. Chidinma recently got a break to reinvent herself with the 40 Years EP, a joint effort with Flavour, on whom she clung. The other ladies are just underdogs whereas they are not supposed to. Seyi Shay is gradually joining this list as she hasn’t been on her remarkable best lately.

With just the exception of Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, Simi, Niniola and Teni, Nigerian music industry could as well pass for an all male affair, judging from the number of men in the business. Whereas others may blame any structure or factor they wish to, I remain consistent in calling out our sisters in the industry to do more for themselves, they should emulate their Nollywood and Literature counterparts who are moving mountains due to collaborations.

So, like Chidinma has done with Flavour, I am looking forward to a joint EP from Aramide and Mz Kiss, a collaboration from Tiwa and Yemi and yes, we would love to hear the Apata sisters on one song.

While we crave to have more women in the music scene, we must always remember to encourage the ones there already to sustain the movement. Where are our women, our divas?

Music/RadioIs There A Cold War Among Nigerian Female Musicians? by mantosa(op): 5:16pm On Jan 03, 2020
So I was watching MTV Base recently with a cousin of mine who, after seeing too many collabos among foreign female musicians, expressed worries over why Nigerian female musicians do not have such beautiful harmony.

“Bros this thing de worry me, e get as e be. Wetin dem de drag, wetin be their problem sef,” my bemused cousin asked.

“You know you women are always like that, you see your fellow women as rivals even in situations where rivalry is not needed. Una don de fight unaselves since the time of Adam.” I joked.

“Ehh is true but are those foreign female artistes not women too? Our own too much abeg. See Iggy Azzella, Nicki Minaj, Beyonce, Rihanna, Cardi B, Ariana Grande etc, these ladies are collaborating. Na so so beef our women here sabi. Beef wey no even get meaning. Mtcheew!”

“This thing de pain you oo,” I remarked.

“Ehe now. We de talk about Girl Power, Girl Power, no be for mouth o. The ones in the movie industry have realized themselves, and they are working together now but the music industry is just there, even if their beef aren’t pronounced, we all know they’re not helping one another place their crowns on their different heads properly,” she noted.

I saw reasons to agree with my cousin, a 24 year old Nigerian music lover and Girl Power supporter whose dream is to make money, open a label where only female artists would be signed. But she’s afraid that this lack of team spirit among female Nigerian musicians would make her jettison that ambition.

But come to think of it, she has a sound point. Even the parallel she drew between Nigerian female musicians and their foreign counterparts are logical and holds strong water, same as her juxtaposition of them with their Nollywood counterparts. She didn’t compare them with their male Nigerian counterparts who keep supporting one another everyday with sign-on and collabos. That would have been an unfair comparison because someone could argue and win that guys naturally understand themselves better and faster than ladies. So she used two other female instances to prove that this may not be about women naturally not wanting to work together, this could be about something we are yet to find out among Nigerian female musicians.

Nigerian female musicians haven’t been in their best form of friendship for long. The least we could remember is the friendship and subsequent collabos between Waje and Omawunmi. But what of Tiwa Savage and Yemi Alade, Chidimma and Seyi Shay, Niniola and Teni etc. These ladies aren’t truly working together in the real sense which has seen to the reason why they fade on time and why some of them don’t even get to shine at all. Most of them even prefer to work with their male colleagues or foreign females (Niniola & Busiswa, for instance). It was heartwarming seeing Tiwa Savage bring Yemi Alade up to the stage during her Everything Savage Concert, we look forward to more of that, we look forward to their going into the studio to give us something and quit with the ganging thing that is not beneficial to them.

On the other hand, I could be hallucinating alongside my cousin. These female artists may not be warring at all; maybe they don’t just find it necessary paying their fellow females for collabo when they, themselves, can still hit the same note or even better, just maybe. But I’m certain that if Beyonce had selfishly thought of that, she wouldn’t have brought in Shakira to make the “Hips Don’t Lie” hit with her.

CelebritiesFrom Hate To Love: An Account Of How I Became A Marlian by mantosa(op): 12:07pm On Dec 23, 2019
During the time of his initial entrance into the industry, I wasn’t really disposed to enjoying and famzing Naira Marley. I wouldn’t call it hate but I didn’t fall for him either. Even his widely accepted Nigeria’s Football support anthem “Issa Goal” didn’t move my musical taste bud. He was to strengthen my disregard for him when he released “Am I a Yahoo Boy?” the moment the song dropped, I predicted that he was headed for a controversial showdown with the authorities and it did happen.

“Am I a Yahoo Boy?” sounds like a rejection of that ignoble act but a listen to song expected to condemn it turned out to be an endorsement of the act that has brought international disrepute to Nigeria and he paid dearly for releasing such a song. That notwithstanding, the song is loved by many and his imprisonment did nothing but to promote the song more and brought Naira Marley into the consciousness of the public.

So how did I become a Marlian, a reserved Marlian though!

It is simple! I became a Marlian after seeing the haste with which EFCC tried to make a scapegoat out of Naira Marley. The swiftness of the arrest, the sentencing and all other proceedings in the case brought out the stinking hypocrisy in that agency’s operation, who have repeatedly failed to officially jail a thieving politician but decided to embarrass a youth who is a victim of corrupt leadership that is characteristic of postcolonial Africa, Nigeria in particular. I became a Marlian when I saw how quiet Marley was during the whole period of that trial. He was calm, unshaken and respectful to the law court. He was eventually granted bail and he did what made me baptize myself into the Marlian’s Republic. That was the release of “Soapy”. A song we all love to hate. I too didn’t quite like the song until I saw the visuals. His reenactment of his prison ordeal with his friends, Zlatan, Rahman Jago, Guccy Branch etc, is a bold statement on the face of what is wrong with Nigeria’s correctional facilities. The overcrowded cell rooms, the unjustly jailed and the randiness of most inmates who involve in gay practices and masturbation. Marley exposed all that and in him I saw a rebel, a likeable rebel who even made a shout out to his jail house “kirikiri ijo soapy.” Now that’s the mark of a rebel.

Hate him or love him, what we can’t take away from Naira Marley and even Zlatan, his friend is that he has perpetuated himself and can no longer be ignored. He seems not to care about the society’s notion of him. He is seemingly unaware, unconcerned and unbothered about pull downs. This young man appears to be building a consciousness that is likeable to Fela’s Kalakuta Republic which gave hope to disenchanted Nigerian masses during the military era in Nigeria. The youths of that time saw Fela as a rallying point, drawing inspiration and succor from the late maestro’s lifestyle. Now we have the Marlians, who are not just comprised of urchins, but millions of idle, disenchanted youths who are disappointed with their leaders. In Naira Marley, they found opium, a dope-like kind of relief that engages their frivolities since the FG has shown carelessness for its most important citizens.

As time goes on, I am certain to do a piece comparing Kalakuta Republic and the rise of Marlians, but Naira Marley has to put in more work and effort to earn such comparison, even though we are witnesses to early intimations of resemblance. He has established a cultic followership within a short spell; we only hope that his republic doesn’t spiral the youths into more dilemma and crime. He can use this opportunity now to reorient the masses into being good youths and ambassadors of repute. His song “Bad Influence” isn’t enough in this regard, we need more of such soul searching songs.

Marlians, come forward!

Celebrities"Winning Lyricist On The Roll Confirmed That I'm Good Rapper" - AQ by mantosa(op): 2:32pm On Dec 21, 2019
At the recently held “The Coronation”, an evening of rap, cyphers and spoken words organized by AQ and Loose Kaynon of 100 Crowns Entertainment and Chocolate City at CCX Lounge, Victoria Island, our correspondence was on ground to savour the evening and have some chats with some of the artists on ground.

AQ was on ground from the very go of the event and obliged our correspondence his views on his recent Lyricist on the Roll Headies Award, his relationship with Vector, MI, their beef and what it means to be finally recognized after many years of working hard to be known.

“It is a good thing that I finally won the Headies Award on the Lyricist on the Roll category. It is a testament to the fact that good things and eventual recognition come to those who work hard and persevere, but I tell you, I feel nothing. I mean, the whole euphoria I should be feeling for finally winning that award is not there because it came at the time I long lost interest in being recognized as such. But I appreciate it though. It’s a good thing I won. It has laid the matter to rest, as to whether I am good or not,” he told our correspondent

On his relationship with Vector, he alleged he was never “under Vector” as many assumed: “I wasn’t signed to his label. We were just friends. As for MI, he’s my real G, label boss, partner and friend. My relationship with him has yielded more results and as you can see, there is a quantum leap in my career, so much so that I am now a label executive (100 Crowns) and have artists of my own. Shout out to MI.”

He equally hinted that he never sat down to discuss “Distractions”, the song he featured Vector where the latter beefed Reminisce. According to him, “I simply did a song and called Vector in as a friend, whatever he said to Reminisce where just his decision as I have no business with that. And if you check, my reply to him in this ongoing beef is also titled “Distractions”; my way of putting that title in proper perspective and to whom it may concern.”

His parting words are quite sobering, especially his message to underground rappers struggling to be heard. AQ believes that who will shine must shine no matter how long it eventually takes, especially if the person withstands the temptation to quit. He believes that with a joint album with Loose Kaynon, a label of his own and good recognition, he can now comfortably quit, knowing that his struggles weren’t in vain.

When asked if we should expect another project any time soon, he simply said “I am not sure for now. I want to focus on my artists and my label for now.”

CelebritiesWhere The Hell Is Rymzo? by mantosa(op): 2:23pm On Dec 21, 2019
Churchill Sosa de Gusto, popularly known as Rymzo is a Nigerian born Reggae/Dancehall artist who took the music scene by storm with his hit single “Rock N Roll” in 2008. He was preeminent in the popularization of his genre, creating a unique Caribbean blend with African percussions that gave his sound a different kind of flavor that butted a lot of mediocres out of the scene with his coming. He was to release an album in 2015, controversially titled Take Mediocres Off The Stage. He was said to be arrogant by his peers, that may not be the case but nevertheless, he reserves the right to be. His lyrics are done in impeccable English, eliciting remarkable poeticism that can only be compared to the genius of Jesse Jagz Abaga.

Did I just say Genius? Yes, genius. Rymzo was and still is a genius. He knew from the outset that he is a different kind of musician and set out to distinguish himself from the crowd, a move that earned him the arrogant tag. Such has also been said of Jesse Jagz, but we all know that there is something in extraordinarily creative artists that make them chat separate causes from a gathering they think to be too populated with mediocres, reason why M.I, in one of his rap singles (Everything I Have Seen) opines that “genius is alone cos nobody understands him.” This aptly captures the true disposition of Rymzo. I have this strong feeling that he is a misunderstood man and his genius and talent hasn’t been fully recognized and given its proper right of place in the comity of Contemporary Nigerian Musical Legends.

On 10th December this year, a Rymzo fan made a post about missing Rymzo and his music and tagged me to the post, praying me to go search for Rymzo and fish him out. Well, I did go into the search and discovered he has been in Vancouver, Canada since he last released the Killertunes produced track in 2016 featuring a Timaya protégé, Jez Blenda. He hasn’t really done much since then and we hope to hear from him soon. We exchanged emails wherein I brought the floodgate of pleas from his fans to drop more songs to his attention. His reply indicated he was moved by those cries and he promised to hearken to them in 2020.

So, we are on the lookout for his masterly craftsmanship next year.

CelebritiesHow Ministry Of Information Missed A Great Opportunity With Cardi B by mantosa(op): 12:41pm On Dec 14, 2019
Cardi B landed in Nigeria on the 6th of December for the Livespot Concert and from the moment of her touchdown at the Ikeja Airport, the entire fabrics of the nation felt her presence. She did bring a good vibe with her, no doubt, and she seemingly made herself comfortable without anyone having to tell her that. The 27 year old rapper felt the contagious existentiality of Nigeria which Lagos represents and from her radio interviews to her show and her visits to clubs, it was all one affectionate movement for Cardi who preferred to be called Chioma B as she relished original Nigeria delicacies.

Lessons & Wins for Nigeria

One big lesson one can learn from Cardi B’s visit to Nigeria is that despite our socio-political challenges and dystopia, Nigeria is still a lovable place with a high potential of being the world’s most sought after tourism destination. One may argue, and rightly so, that Cardi B is not a Nigerian and does not understand our real challenges here, but the major win in her coming is that she seems to have put Nigeria back on the world map with a reasonable uplifting of the nation’s image on the global respect ladder. She practically became Nigeria’s brand ambassador, from her hairdo, to her wears, to her choice of food and drinks and songs she sang and danced to. Yes, she was paid to come and perform but I think she added excess jara with the PR job she did. Aside her over 55 million followers seeing Nigerian hospitality through her Instagram account, the American media followed her down here and saw same with her and coupled with the groundbreaking achievements of Nigerian musicians in the international scene recently, the nation’s image could be said to have achieved a major facelift and patchwork.

What Could We Have Done Better

It is my conviction that a nation like ours should not leave anything to chance when the opportunity for image making and international diplomacy arises, hence, I feel the federal government of Nigeria, through the ministry of information and culture in collaboration with the office of Nigeria’s ambassador to the United States should have used the opportunity of Cardi B’s visit to honour the American rapper with a Nigerian citizenship. This would her boosted the nation’s diplomatic scorecard because whether the world likes it or not, Cardi B is now a Nigerian citizen by conferment and she too would have been proud of it. A lot of nation’s do this all the time to attract international attention and, in turn, leverage on the attention to win some advantages and respite for her citizens in the honourees nation and strengthen the diplomatic ties therein while opening more diplomatic doors with that nation’s allies.

Ghana did it in the late 60s and early 70s/80s when she opened her doors for some reputable African American writers and artists like W.E.B Du Bois, Maya Angelou etc. the country granted them diplomatic citizenship and that was a major masterstroke for the nation as it boosted her image internationally, a credit the country enjoys till date because the honourees took it upon themselves to project Ghana to the world.

And … Some Yarn

The friendly feud between Nigerian Jollof and Ghana Jollof may have come to a decisive end as an unbiased umpire from America may have passed her judgment to Nigeria’s favour. Chioma B says the Ghanaian Jollof caused her dysentery to the pitiable extent that she nearly pooed on herself when she went there for her show after her Nigerian visit.

Dear Ghanaians, please let’s no go down this road again. Naija sabi cook abeg.

HealthSurprising Facts About Vaping by mantosa(op): 12:39pm On Nov 15, 2019
Large sums of people across the world have been affected by a severe lung illness linked to vaping, and handfuls have died, according to public health officials. Many were healthy young people, in their teens or early 20s who succumbed to pressure and the fame that comes with pop culture.

The people at risk

Anyone who smokes e-cigarettes or other vaping devices, either to consume nicotine or substances extricated from marijuana or hemp, are all at risk.

There appears to be a particular danger for people who vape THC i.e. the psychoactive chemical in marijuana. A significant subset of samples of vaping fluid used by sick patients includes THC and also contained a chemical called vitamin E acetate.

What are the symptoms?

The symptoms include fatigue, nausea, vomiting, coughing and fever, escalating to shortness of breath, which can become so extreme it can prompt hospitalization.

Some patients have needed supplementary oxygen, including a ventilator in severe cases.

On lung scans, the ailment takes the conformation of a bacterial or viral pneumonia that has attacked the lungs, but no infection has been found in laboratory testing.

Prevention

Most health officials assume that the riskiest habit is using vaping products bought on streets instead of from a retailer, or those that have been compromised with or mixed with other elements.

The best advice to give users will come from medical practitioners and doctors to discourage their patients from vaping.

E-cigarettes and other vaping devices were designed to help cigarette smokers quit their vile habit by providing a way to cure their nicotine addiction without inhaling the toxins that emits from burning tobacco. Furthermore, health and medical experts believe that people should stop turning to e-cigarettes — and non-smokers should not vape.

On suspicion of vape-related lung cancer

People who battle with shortness of breath for more than a few hours or becomes severe should seek medical attention urgently. This warning should never be ignored.

Despite vapes being around for years. The rise of the illness

There are several postulations. The first being that, some dangerous chemicals or a mixture of chemicals have been introduced into the pipeline of vapes; and when people vape this noxious pipe, it triggers a lethal reaction in the lungs. The particular substance or device that may be causing this reaction is unknown for now.

The second theory is that the syndrome is not completely new and that some people had fallen ill prior to the recent cases but that the condition had not identified or linked to vaping. Vaping has grown in popularity, both with nicotine and marijuana.

For the time being, there is a hunt for a substance, substances or process that might explain the escalation in vaping-related lung cancer.

Food5 Best Brunch Spots In Lagos by mantosa(op): 8:34am On Nov 01, 2019
I think we can all agree that not only is breakfast one of the best meals EVER, but that there are a ton of totally fun Lagos brunch spots sprinkled throughout the city, just waiting to be discovered. Am I right?

I mean, without having to get the work done, you can choose from an assortment of breakfast options that include pancakes, French toast, waffles, eggs, and basically any other piece of carb awesomeness that you can think of.

Whether you’re heading out with a ton of your family members for Easter Brunch in Lagos, having a business meeting over brunch, or just brunching it up with your favorite girls, we can agree that not all brunches are created equally.

Here are 5 Brunch Spots, out of many, that I would recommend, and my experiences in my recent visits;

Circa Lagos
https://i2.wp.com/tushmagazine.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Circa-Lagos-2.jpg?resize=768%2C576
2 Kola Adeyina Close, Jerry Iriabe, Lekki.

A beautiful aesthetic and an abundance of natural light makes the perfect spot for a midday brunch! Circa Lagos is tucked in one of the quietest residential parts of Lekki, which makes it a great location for a quiet brunch date. Circa Lagos serves a modern fusion menu featuring breakfast, yassa, burgers and steak.

What I ordered:

As a sucker for plantain, I ordered the “Onje Aaro” which was basically grilled mashed plantain, eggs, sausages and smoked mackerel sauce. I requested for extra bacons and got a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice as well. It was the perfect “Nigerian” breakfast thing to eat from the menu.

The mackerel sauce was the best part of the food as my plantain turned out to be much riper than I’d have preferred. The bacons were the perfect level of dry, but the beef sausages tasted wrong though, just bland, like it lacked any atom of spice.

More Deets:

Damage? Onje Aaro (N4,200), Extra Bacon (N1,100), Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice (N1,500).

Mood? Circa Lagos is an ideal spot for brunching with Family.

Outdoor Seating? Yes, with industrial fans to help on hot days.

Parking? Enough compound parking space.

Brunch Hours? All Day and Night; 8:30 AM to 11:00 PM

Takes Reservations? Yes. Probably wise to make reservations if you’re going in a large group as seating is limited.

Craft Gourmet by Lou Baker
https://i2.wp.com/tushmagazine.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Craft-Gourmet-2.jpg?resize=768%2C576
3rd Floor, Mega Plaza, Idowu Martins Street, Victoria Island.

Craft Gourmet is a gorgeous restaurant, strangely located in a shopping mall, but with the very beautiful interiors, top notch service and relaxing atmosphere, it is definitely a fancy place. If you’re not a morning person, I guarantee that you will be, after devouring brunch at Craft Gourmet. Rest assured that this is not your average brunch spot though, this is brunching at its bougiest, as the menu is pricey.

What I ordered:

This is the only restaurant I’ve been to where I wanted every single item on the brunch menu. You’ll find the breakfast and brunch menu classier-than-average.After roaming the menu for nothing short of 10 minutes, I finally requested the help of a waiter to recommended one of either the Avocado Toast or Chicken Avocado Croissant.

He recommended the Chicken Avocado Croissant, which was Croissant stuffed with avocado, roasted marinated chicken breast, lettuce tomato and mayo with bacon on the side. I ordered an ice shaken espresso as well, which was unexpectedly served in a large jug.

The avocado was refreshingly smooth, the croissant was warm and buttery, creating a fantastic textural contrast to the creamy avocado. I reluctantly resisted the urge to place an order for another one to takeaway.

More Deets:

Damage? Chicken Avocado Croissant (N4,100), Ice Shaken Espresso (N1,000).

[Mood? Craft Gourmet would be a great spot for a fancy Sunday Funday Brunch with the girls.

Outdoor Seating? None.

Parking? Mega Plaza’s parking lot would suffice. Otherwise, street parking works.

Brunch Hours? The breakfast menu serves from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and the Brunch menu serves from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

Takes Reservations? Yes. Probably the best idea if you’re going in a group.

Cactus
https://i2.wp.com/tushmagazine.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Cactus-2.jpg?resize=768%2C576
20/24, Ozumba Mbadiwe Way, Victoria Island.

Cactus is a Restaurant located by the lagoon bay shore. It has an uber chill vibe with its rustic, industrial chic interiors that are ultra-stylish but without being overly pretentious and hipstery. There is an outdoor Lagoon-side seating area, as well as a playground for children.

The staff are also super friendly, yet professional too, and will gladly make food recommendations if the menu leaves you incapable of deciding what to order.

What I ordered:

The menu at Cactus is diverse, delicious and entirely homemade. They also have desserts and pastries that are an ideal, mouth-watering, take-away gift! The breakfast menu however, isn’t very extensive, serving English breakfast and a few other breakfast combos.

I ordered the Lagos Passion which serves vegetable omelet with a side of porridge beans, sausages and fried plantain and fresh tomato stew. I got a cup of chamomile tea to go with that. They were nice enough to serve complimentary slices of bread and a glass of juice, very delightful! The eggs were great but beans was probably my favorite part of the meal, it was so perfectly prepared and tasted like homemade porridge beans but was sadly served in a tiny portion.

More Deets:

Damage? Lagos Passion (4,200), Flavored Tea (N700)

Mood? I would definitely recommend Cactus for a business meeting type of brunch.

Outdoor Seating? Gorgeous outdoor seating area overlooking the Lagoon.

Parking? Yes, a lot.

Brunch Hours? 7am to 12pm daily.

Takes Reservations? Yes.

[b[Flower Shop Cafe[/b]
https://i2.wp.com/tushmagazine.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Flower-Shop-Cafe-2.jpg?resize=768%2C576
274a, Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island.

Flower shop Cafe located in the heart of Victoria Island, is an all-day café with a breathtaking interior design that will definitely leave you speechless, but in the best possible way. The incredible breakfast menu is served from 8:00am to 2:00pm daily. The menu features everything from toasts and breakfast bowls to salads and sandwiches.

Now, because this place is new and popular, Sunday brunch fills up fast, like within fifteen minutes of opening fast. Therefore, either get here real quick or make a reservation before arrival.

What I ordered:

Out of curiosity, I ordered the Ina Kwana breakfast pot, which contains mixed yam hash with sausage, Nigerian beans, spicy tomato sauce, topped with a sunny side egg and a side of fried plantain. You’d be curious too right?

The taste of the mixture of yam hash, porridge beans and sunny side egg was definitely unexpectedly pleasant. The meal was so filling that I couldn’t drink the cup of banana smoothie that I got, I had to order a bottle of water.

I generally enjoyed the vibes of the spot but I felt the needed to leave in a hurry, as I was alone and occupied a 3 person’s table and there were people in the waiting area, waiting to get seated. Thankfully, the waiting area is also designed to have seats.

More Deets:

Damage? Ina Kwana Breakfast Pot (N3,800), Banana Smoothie (N2,800), Water (N600)

Mood? Very cute spot for a casual brunch date.

Outdoor Seating? Few outdoor seating in the small patio.

Parking? Decent parking, but a little inconvenient as cars have to be parked behind other cars.

Brunch Hours? 8am to 3pm on Sundays, 9am to 3pm on weekdays.

Takes Reservations? Yes, you should make reservations even if you’re brunching alone, as this place gets really full.

Churchill’s Bar
https://i0.wp.com/tushmagazine.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Churchill-Bar-2.jpg?resize=768%2C576
6, layi Yusuf Crscent, Lekki phase 1.

You know when you wake up on a weekend and just don’t feel like making any decisions? Churchill’s Bar is probably your neighborhood go-to place for breakfast or brunch on those days.

Churchill’s Bar is known for serving delicious food at very reasonable price, but this place is not your regular, fancy style, brunch spot. It is a pub and so there’s a lot of beer drinking and cigarette smoking within the premises, which makes it a non-family friendly spot.

What I ordered:

Like everything else here, the menu was a bit quirky; mostly serving regular British breakfast, a few combos and a craft-your-own-combo, so I ordered a combo of pancakes with syrup, scrambled eggs and sausages.

Churchill Bar doesn’t have a drinks’ menu so you may have to ask for recommendations from the waiters or just settle for a smoothie like I usually do. But this time, I didn’t have the stomach space for a smoothie so I ordered a glass of juice.

Like every other time I’ve visited this place, I didn’t have any complaints about my food. The eggs had the perfect fluff and although the pancakes don’t have the texture of your homemade pancakes they tasted good enough.

More Deets:

Damage? Pancake Combo (N2,000), Glass of Juice (N400)

Mood? For the unorthodox brunch experience, you definitely want to try this spot.

Outdoor Seating? None.

Parking? Street parking, but usually never difficult.

Brunch Hours? 8am to 3pm daily (But word out there is that they would be nice enough to scoop you a plate of breakfast at about anytime, even at midnight!)

Takes Reservations? Yes, but you’d probably never need to.

Health8 Self Care Tips For A Young Nigerian by mantosa(op): 12:35pm On Oct 28, 2019
At any given time, an average young Nigerian is worrying about a stressful job or lack of a job, poor academic infrastructure, being broke, having inadequate savings, bad governance, police harassment, lack of basic amenities, black tax, or even climate change. In a world where there’s so much to worry about, it’s easy to focus mostly on the negatives and drive yourself into a state of constant stress, anxiety or depression.

It’s not that older generations did not have to deal with all these issues, but in this fast-changing digital world, the pressure is more. Studies have shown that young people today are more likely to be depressed and self-harm than ten years ago. With social media, there’s an overload of information constantly making your failures and other people’s successes seem amplified.

It’s important to consciously practise self-care in a world where everything seems set up to harm you mentally or physically. You must be proactive about your wellbeing, and find ways to take care of your body and mind. Taking time out to care for yourself will reduce exhaustion, and improve your physical and mental health. Often, people only realize the importance of self-care after they have had a physical or mental break down.

Self-care encompasses just about anything you to do be good to yourself including actions and attitudes. It’s about being as kind to yourself as you are to others. It’s about acknowledging when you are running low physically or mentally, and stepping back to replenish yourself rather than letting it all drain away. Self-care is about making yourself feel good, but not everything that feels good is self-care. Don’t be tempted to use unhealthy coping mechanisms like drugs, excessive alcohol, over-eating, and risk-taking.

Here are some healthy ways to practice self-care.

Eat Healthily
Eating a healthy, balanced diet is one of the core elements of self-care. Our bodies require sufficient nutrients and hydration to exist and be in the right shape. Our daily food choices affect our overall health and wellbeing – both in the short and long-term. What we eat can have a huge impact on our mood, our ability to cope with stress and our overall physical health and wellbeing.Ensure to add fruits and vegetables to your diet, drink a lot of water and avoid over-eating or stress-eating. Cut down on sugars and sodas, and eat healthier snacks.

Exercise Regularly
Exercise is not just beneficial physically, but also mentally. Regular exercise can improve your physical health, decrease your risk for serious health conditions, help you feel better emotionally, improve your sleep, help you feel more confident and motivated. Often, people put off exercising for a myriad of reasons including lack of time, laziness, or lack of knowledge. Consider adding 20 – 60 minutes of exercise to your weekly routine. It can be running or walking every other day, skipping every morning, or signing up at a gym for a more intense routine.

Take Breaks from Social Media
Constantly being online on social media can be entertaining, but can also be harmful to your mental wellbeing. Being on social networks can be time-wasting, can negatively affect physical and mental health, reduce productivity and elicit feelings of envy or self-hate. It’s advised to take regular time outs from social networks. This may be harder for people whose jobs require them to be on social media or stay updated on happenings on social media. But even a short break on a weekend, or during a vacation can be very helpful. Sign out from social networks, or delete the apps from your devices. Use the time you would originally spend scrolling endless feeds to read a book, take a walk, or spend time with loved ones instead.

Make Time for Your Hobbies
If your life feels too serious or stressful, a good way to introduce some fulfilment is to spend time doing something you genuinely love. Many people are guilty of setting their hobbies aside to focus on chasing the bag. Chasing the bag is important, but it’s also important to do things that ground you and bring joy. If you love drawing, painting, playing football, knitting, swimming – whatever your hobby may be, then find time on a weekend to do it.

Get Adequate Sleep
Many young Nigerians suffer from sleep deprivation. For some, it is inevitable; returning home from work or school late, waking up early to beat traffic. For others, they’re simply unable to stop tweeting or watching movies until its well past midnight. Regularly getting a good night’s sleep is proven to improve your mental and emotional health, increase your lifespan and keep you alert and sharp. It also makes you kinder, funnier and even makes you look better. Some helpful tips for getting healthy sleep include maintaining a sleep routine, limiting the use of electronics before bed, and avoiding consuming substances with caffeine or alcohol before bed. If you can’t get eight hours of sleep during the week because of unfortunate schedules, then try to hit the 8-hour mark on weekends and holidays.

Spend Time Around Positive People
The people around you have a huge impact on your life. It’s important to consider the people you’re spending time with, the same way you think about what you eat and how you’re exercising. Spend more time around positive, happy people who enrich your life, inspire and empower you, make you feel good about yourself and cheer on your successes. When you’re surrounded by good people, it positively affects your own attitudes and outlook on life. You’ll be less stressed and find more joy in daily things.

Practice Gratitude
Practising gratitude regularly has been scientifically validated as one of the best things that you can do to maintain your levels of personal happiness. It can be as simple as taking a minute to sit down and acknowledge in your mind the things you are grateful for, or occasional journaling. Nothing is too small really – if it sparks joy, acknowledge it. It’s easy to lose sight of the positive things happening, especially when work and personal stress levels are high. In these moments, writing down the things you’re grateful for can help you feel better.

Declutter and Stay Tidy
Clutter in your living or working space can be a cause of stress, fatigue, anxiety and depression. Decluttering might not be the most exciting form of self-care but it’s one of the most effective ways to make yourself feel instantly better. Dedicate time to regularly declutter your spaces and you’ll notice the instant gratification that a clean and clutter-free environment gives.

Sports5 Greatest Insults In Footballing World by mantosa(op): 12:04pm On Oct 26, 2019
The game of football always have some needle – and this pair of figures did not hold any thread back when it was time to sew rifts and serve proper gossip for the pundits, fans and media to feast on. Most of the time, it transits to one of the pair receiving heavy fines or the other walking the pitch of shame from fans during matches. Nonetheless, the truth still remains that it has never ended well and favoured any of the parties involved. In no particular order, here are the vilest insults ever thrown in the beautiful world of football:

SIR ALEX FERGUSON VS REAL MADRID
https://i1.wp.com/tushmagazine.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Sir_Alex_Ferguson-_2480608b.jpg?w=620

During the transfer saga of Ronaldo to Real Madrid in 2008, Ferguson was asked to comment on speculation that a deal had been agreed to sell the superstar at the end of the season. It was an emphatic no: “Do you think I would get into a contract with that mob. Jesus Christ, no chance. I wouldn’t sell them a virus.”

This made Manchester United fans happy but unfortunately, Ronaldo was sold to Real Madrid in the summer of 2009.

PATRICE EVRA VS LILIAN THURAM
https://i0.wp.com/tushmagazine.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/102004_gallery.jpg?resize=768%2C576

“Walking around with books on slavery in glasses and a hat does not turn you into MalcolmX.”

France’s spectacular buffooner at the 2010 World Cup drew criticism from all over the country especially from Thuram, fueled by the dying legacy which he and the former generation had done so much to build. It was particularly vocal and demanded that Evra should never be allowed to play for Les Bleus again.

Evra then took aim at Thuram’s public image. Unfairly, the former left-back is among the most intelligent and socially-conscious players around.

DIEGO MARADONA VS PELE
https://i2.wp.com/tushmagazine.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/afc5e61e-c91d-11e8-bbf7-ccd0803112e5.jpg?resize=768%2C432

“Pele should go back to the museum.”

Maradona’s multiple insults deserve their own feature, but his repeated swipes at Pele have always been of greater significance.

In this case, taking exception to the Brazilian’s coaching credentials before the 2010 World Cup; Maradona was in a particularly burning mood. The binary relationship between the two and the ceaseless debate over their collective greatness drips with personal contempt.

ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC VS PEP GUARDIOLA
https://i1.wp.com/tushmagazine.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/3801FFD200000578-3777519-image-a-17_1473240987477.jpg?w=634

The legacy of one of the most meaningless transfers in history, Ibrahimovic’s hatred towards Guardiola has its roots in the 2009 deal which brought him to Barcelona from Inter Milan in exchange for Samuel Eto’o and a sickening lot of cash.

“Guardiola was staring at me and I lost it. I thought, ‘There is my enemy, scratching his bald head!’ I yelled: ‘you haven’t got any balls.’”

Pundits can say Ibrahimovic didn’t really ‘blow it’ at the Camp Nou: his statistics were actually very healthy, but his inability to adapt to the traditional style created a lasting spite which lasts till date.

JOSE MOURINHO VS ARSENE WENGER
https://i0.wp.com/tushmagazine.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/jpeg.jpg?w=533

“I think he is one of these people who is a Viewer. He likes to watch other people. There are some guys who, when they are at home, have a big telescope to see what happens in other families. He speaks, speaks, and speaks about Chelsea.” The comment above was made after Wenger had suggested that 2005 Chelsea were more vulnerable than their recent results, was probably his biggest nosing around and continues to represent him at his Pinocchio’s worst.

Music/RadioMeet TG Omori, The Hottest Music Video Director In Nigeria Right Now by mantosa(op): 12:57pm On Oct 25, 2019
Thank God Omori Jesam aka TG Omori, since his childhood has always wanted to create. Growing up, he already had the love for acting, dancing, music, standup comedy and everything related to entertainment. Realizing his potential and knowing what he wants to do with his life at a very young age, TG Omori has now become a leading music video director in Nigeria.

TG Omori, also known as Boy Director hails from Cross Rivers State. He was born in 1995 in Lagos, Nigeria, where he also had his basic education. TG Omori discovered his love for cinematography and video directing at about the age of 17, while still a student at the University of Lagos. He is one of the outliers who believe school is a waste of his time and this led him to attend a film school instead.

According to him, “When I was quite young in church, I use to lead the drama team, right from when I was in the children church. Even as a child, I always come up with concepts for dances. I was just a creative from my childhood; I got respected among my peers because of this. I always wanted to be in a circle where I can create and I never wanted to go to the University and get a degree. I felt like God would get angry with me. Sometimes I feel like what I create is not me, but it’s divine because sometimes I think of ideas and don’t know how these ideas get to me.” He added, ”while I was in the University, everything was not making sense, so I did my research and found out there was a film school in Lagos, and so I applied. However, I wasn’t getting what I wanted.”

TG’s parents were never aware that he left the University, and was attending a film school. After a year in the film school, he had to leave after getting a job offer to write for a media house. He also wanted to pursue a career as an actor. He was attending auditions, going on set but that didn’t seem to give him fulfillment. “I’m the kind of person who doesn’t deceive myself when I don’t see a future in something I rather back off when I can. I was acting, and I wasn’t feeling it, I didn’t like how the whole acting industry was going.”

TG later decided to go into music video directing. He thought of ways he could improve himself, did some research and also moved with friends in the film making industry to learn more. He did this for about six months before he got a proper video directing offer from a friend who believed in his creative strength in 2015. That opportunity led to him getting calls and shooting every week. For over two years when he was doing his own thing, TG only shot videos for upcoming artist and never had a chance to shoot videos for prominent artists.

In December 2018, however, the big opportunity that made TG’s creativity known in Nigeria came through. “YCEE’s manager hit me up for YCEE’s “My Side” video. I felt like it was the shot and I needed to go all out,” he said. TG took that inch and is running a mile, shooting groundbreaking videos for artistes like Dban’j, Wizkid, Olamide, Timaya, Reekado Banks, Teni, Naira Marley, Zlatan.

Finding creative ideas for these music videos was never challenging for TG because he could easily relate to these kinds of music. “It was easier for me. I understand the lifestyle, and I understand the culture.” ”To me, I feel like this is just a stepping stone. I’m trying to bring the world to Africa. I want people in other parts of the world to want a taste of this Afrobeat culture, and I want to be the leader of the culture.” One major factor that has made TG stand out among other music video directors is his uniqueness and creative method of directing.

The famed director is currently pushing a movement he calls “Wayward”. ”The only way to break in is if you are solving a problem. No one will want to work with you if you are doing what others are doing. So I had to bring my style – Wayward.” Wayward, basically, is a movement that welcomes people that are misunderstood and people who have chosen to deviate from the norm. TG told me, “I run a movement of people the society has looked down on and called useless because of their dreams.”

Bringing something new out of the ordinary has been TG’s thing. He says in the coming years, he wants his methods to be studied as a course. For instance, this wayward way is how he approaches the videos he directs. “I choose my project. If project is given to me and I don’t like it, I don’t do it. I’m trying to keep a clean slate”, he said. ”For the movement, I’m trying to raise initiatives. I have a couple of boys working with me now that I’m trying to mentor. I’m trying to impact a lot of youths to make the movement grow worldwide all across Africa.”

TG also explained how the name Boy Director came to be. “The name, Boy Director, came about because I started directing since I was a boy. The name now is not about just me; it’s about every young boy aspiring to be a director. Boy director is also a movement for young creatives that aspire to be directors.” The 24-year-old times his time in the business of music videos directing. At age 31, he plans to shift focus to shooting commercials and cinema movies. He advises that the only way one not to become irrelevant in the industry is if one is not limited to their environment. Thank God tell his story, his life experiences, and his view of the world through his works. And soon enough he believes he will bring the world to Africa!

Fashion5 Style Tips Every Plus-Sized Man Needs by mantosa(op): 1:11pm On Oct 22, 2019
Over the years, the notion that bigger guys don’t care about their appearance has been an underlying misconception rampant among the menswear industry and society at large.

Still, according to this same society, if you can’t squeeze into certain brands’ size ranges, then “fat” is exactly what you are. This doesn’t seem fair, particularly if most of your weekday evenings are spent in the gym instead of eating that large pizza or scoffing on some burgers.

Stating the obvious, there are still a certain percentage of men who struggle to find clothes to suit their body shape, whether because they’re too big, small, round, narrow, etc. Also, this isn’t hugely surprising when you think about the fact that, owing to biological diversity, we really do come in all shapes and sizes – something most clothing manufacturers who produce on a huge scale simply don’t take into consideration. Or perhaps more accurately, can’t afford to if they want to make a profit. In other words, size and fit are two very different things, and not all brands and retailers have the expertise or the money to design with that in mind.

The average menswear brand takes a rudimentary approach to size diversity. They start out by designing a garment, probably a Medium (typically a 38-40-inch chest), based on the measurements of their fit model – that is the real-life mannequin whose dimensions are as close to what the brand believes its customers are in real life. Then, in order to design bigger and smaller sizes to complete a size range, most manufacturers will simply add or subtract inches while maintaining the ratio, failing to consider the fact that that’s not really how bodies work.

Luckily, the millennial generation is pushing to completely break this cycle by keeping up with the movement of inclusion of all body sizes and types into fashion. No more discrimination and body shaming; every plus size man deserves to be loved and be given an opportunity to “rock” any trendy outfit.

A perfect example of a plus size man in such situation is Zach Miko; he was never exactly a shoo-in for the entertainment industry’s body ideals. However, he became the very first plus size model to be signed to a major model agency IMG in 2016, thereby sparking so much of the debate around male size diversity – mostly for being the first ‘plus size’ male model to appear on American retailer Target’s online store. A lesson every brand should note and emulate.

That being stated, there’s still a simple rule of thumb here for every ‘big’ man: the better the fit, the more comfortable you will feel and the more body confidence you will have when wearing your outfit. If an item is ill-fitting and has strains, bulges, sagging, or wrinkles it is unfortunately amplified on big men’s clothes.

One of the biggest mistakes that a [slightly] chubby man can do is buy clothes that are several sizes too big in a bid to disguise his shape. If your clothing is too big you will draw attention to your weight, add bulk to your body, and give off a sloppy impression.

Instead, you want your clothes fitted – not tight – which means touching your body but not being too tight or too loose. You want your clothes to ‘frame’ your body shape, not hide it or hug it. The best option is to buy an item that is slightly large and then have it professionally altered by a tailor.

However, the aforementioned can be narrowed into the following style tips to help boost the confidence of any plus sized man:

Know Your Body

As we know, bodies vary significantly, from the length of our arms to the width of our calves, and everything in between.

You might have narrow shoulders, for example, but the thighs of a skinny girl (not in transit). Or your stomach might be disproportionately large in comparison to the width of your neck. So, to properly dress, or more specifically flatter your body, you need to get an accurate idea of it. That means taking your measurements and looking for clothes in sizes that fit those measurements.

Try Before You Buy

You might be pressed for time, but if whatever you grab and purchase off a rack on your lunch break makes you look like a bag of rice then you are in for a major wardrobe malfunction. So make sure you take just a few minutes to quickly try something on for size and study how it fits in the mirror. It’s worth it. And if at all you buy off an online store, ensure you must have read and understood its return and exchange policy.

Tailor To Fit

Buying off the rack is a relatively modern approach to having your wardrobe be up to date with the latest style trend. But, on the other hand you might not be able to afford to have your entire wardrobe custom-made, but enlisting a tailor to make such outfits is needed and can make all the difference to store-bought style.

Pay Attention To Patterns And Prints

Stripes, florals, etc, all of these patterns and prints instantly draw the eye. Which means it pays to know when, where and how to deploy them. Reserve punchy patterns, prints and even bright contrast colours for the parts of the body you’re happy to put on show. Wide horizontal stripes, for example, will only accentuate an already large belly – which is cool, of course, but only if that was your intention in the first place.

Know What To Pass On

This goes for everyone really, but particularly for men who aren’t exactly model-build. Get to know what suits you and stick to it.

That’s not to say you can’t incorporate a fashion trend now and then, just make sure that trend works with your body, rather than against it. For instance, Cuban collar shirts? Great for everyone. Bare-chested suits? Nahh, pass!

BusinessMeet Evans Akanno, CEO Credigital And Disha by mantosa(op): 10:04am On Oct 21, 2019
When Evans Akanno graduated from the University, he faced the same major problem most Nigerian graduates face – Unemployment. However, as a solution-driven individual, Evans had an idea that later metamorphosed into something great.

Evans Akanno was born in Nigeria into a middle-class family, he attended Innocent Comprehensive High School, Surulere and later went on to study Industrial Chemistry at the Imo State University where he graduated in 2009 with a 2nd Class Lower Division. “I think it’s important for people to know that your degree doesn’t define your life”, he said.

After his service year in 2010, he applied for many jobs but couldn’t get any. With the free time, he did some graphic design and minor pc repairs. “Design was something I loved way back in my Secondary School days, but it was more like a hobby because my career path was to be a Doctor”. In a few months I realized that this hobby could grow to become something tangible. So I started to refine my design skills to see how it could help businesses.”

Evans started by designing logos and social media posts and later brochures, and websites he registered the company Evans Akanno Creative Design Agency. Doing this expanded his network and he was referred to his first full-time role in 2012 with Jumia, where he worked for about 9 months before moving on to Konga where he worked for another 11 months. However, when Evans was working at those companies, the business he registered before working full-time had grown so much and was listed as one of the Top 10 startups in Nigeria in 2013. “I knew that my small team working from home while I was at work and my working late nights and weekends was not enough to scale. With clients like Recycle Points, Suregifts, Africa Courier Express, DSTV and others I realized that I could focus on the agency business and make it something bigger.”

Evans resigned from his job at Konga in May 2014 and spent the next few months working for clients while planning for his new company. He rebranded the company to CREGITAL and launched in 2015, starting with a team of four. “Cregital started with offering creative solutions to startups and small businesses and grew organically to a software agency serving established corporates like Zenith Bank, Globacom, Coronation Bank among others. Now the digital agency has a team of 15 people with designers, developers, strategists, analysts, marketers and visionaries.”

Cregital core focus is user experience design, brand identities, web design and development. It has developed into one of the most successful startups in Nigeria. Speaking on the challenges the company faces, Evans expressed his displeasure towards the poor internet service in Nigeria with respect to costs. He also spoke on the challenge of hiring and retaining skilled people with the right attitude for work.

Still talking on challenges, Evans believes that every business can’t run smoothly; there will be ups and downs, but one has to hold on to his vision and stay motivated to achieve success. “Yes, there are down days, there are days I’m tired, there are days I’ve cried over this startup, but I’ve learnt how to “rest when tired and not quit”, he said.

“Most recently we have been working on Disha – the future of Cregital. Disha is a suite of digital productivity tools. We are building digital tools and templates that help designers, developers, content creators, startups and agencies around the world do their work faster and more efficiently. We recently built Disha Pages a platform that enables people create, edit and publish a beautiful responsive website instantly without writing code.”

Speaking on how he juggles family and work, Evans advised ”I think work and life shouldn’t be treated as contrasting separate things. Ideally we should try to harmonize our career and personal lives. ”I try to find ways to stay happy and productive, regardless of how much work I need to do. For most weekends I spend time with family or visit friends and have a good laugh.”

Cregital has grown from a dream to an admirable reality that includes a number of international affiliations. The serial businessman still has the hunger he had in 2015, which inspires him to push for projects like “Disha” and many others that he didn’t talk broadly about during our chat. One thing is certain: there is much more to come from the man called Evans Akanno.

Jobs/VacanciesThe Best Way To Get A Job In Lagos by mantosa(op): 10:31am On Oct 02, 2019
The Nigerian job market is over populated. Thousands of Nigerian youth graduate every year and there are not enough companies or facilities to manage their knowhow. Job sites and portals have the highest traffic activity with both employed and unemployed citizens looking for jobs and opportunities.

A lot of people spend months on end sending their CVs online and most of them never get a call back. Employers have their systems literarily crashing down due to the magnimity of CVs sent in by hopeful candidates.

The whole process ultimately gets tiring and overbearing. The bills keep piling and your needs get even harder to meet.

The truth is your first degree doesn’t matter, everyone has it. The job market is over populated with first and second class holders. Internships are easy to get, everyone has it. You are not the smartest person in your skill set. But you can have the upper hand by bypassing everything everyone has to something not enough people have – Connects.

The value of your net worth is qualified by your network. Who you know and who knows you is an important determinant to how far you will go in securing your next job.

Lagos like any other mega city in the world is populated with people who have big dreams to become more than what they are. But reaching the dream and aspiration can come with grave consequences of failure, disappointments and failed promises. But for everyone who made it out alive, they needed someone or more to accomplish the fit – network.

Go out. Leave the comfort of your home and meet people in places where individuals in your career path link up. Go for seminars… network with the individuals you meet there, find out who they are and what they do and seek for ways you can help them solve a need in their industry. Everyone is open to people who can help them solve a problem or a need. If you can be resourceful to them, then you have a foot in the door.

Connect with your mentors. Everyone has a mentor or someone who inspires them. Reach out to them all, be open to learning and working with them on projects that will help grow your experience. Connect with people with similar skill set on LinkedIn and seek for ways where you all can work together on projects and help each other out.

Still keep your options open on the lookout for jobs in your field you can apply to on job sites, LinkedIn and references. Try everything and never take anything for granted. During this waiting period, keep busy and learn more. Your next big job opportunity is around the corner.

Goodluck.

Fashion5 Ingredients Used For Making Sugar Wax by mantosa(op): 9:25am On Sep 12, 2018
Every lady would love to wax their bodies and have that shiny glowing leg or arm but it is too expensive to achieve. Let me introduce you to waxing at home DIY(DO IT YOURSELF) You can be in the comfort of your home, get the ingredients and make a wax gel and get a wax strip, which is affordable of course. If you want to look and feel beautiful for less, follow me on the countdown to the ingredients needed to make your own wax gel at home

Sugar

Sugar is a common type of wax found in most spas around the world. Sugar is an exfoliator and is good for removing or pulling out unwanted hair or dirt. The sugar is being heated and turned brown. Easy right? I thought so.

Lemon

Following swiftly to the pot of sugar is the lemon, lemon is a good anti bacterial agent as well as lightening agent. Did I say lemon lightens the skin? It sure does. Make sure your lemon is nearby and squeezed into a boiling pot with the sugar.

Water

This is the basic ingredient that would bring all the other ingredient together so be sure to boil properly and when the consistency is brown and thick, stop boiling and bring it down to cool: a big glass jar – this is where the content is being poured and kept, people use different kinds of jars but I will recommend a glass one. Plus it looks too cute.

Popsicle sticks

If you are looking for something to scope the wax to your skin. This is an affordable and hygienic option as you scope and use, make sure to throw away and do not keep or use again.

Wax strips

This is very essential for removing the unwanted hair from the skin. You apply the wax on the skin with the popsicle stick, place the wax strips in an opposite direction from where the hair is growing, rub the wax strip into the skin and pull. There you have it. Quick easy steps to look fly at a very affordable price.

Make sure to test it on a small portion of your skin, if it is suitable. At the end of the whole process, put like a calming moisturizer, oil or aloe vera gel on the skin to avoid swelling or irritation.

Sports5 Football Stars Who Thrive Internationally But Didn't Replish Same For Club by mantosa(op): 4:33pm On Sep 08, 2018
It is widely believed that football stars have seasons and days – this is what account for impressive and bad forms. A striker could score 3 goals in a match and go on dry spells over a couple of match days.

In the same facet, there are football stars who have performed tremendously on international duties but their club side careers can make a pass right into the oblivion. Here are some of them:

LUCAS PODOLSKI

https://i0.wp.com/tushmagazine.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/600px-Lukas_Podolski_Germany_national_football_team_04.jpg

This is so obvious that Lucas might not have been a failure for Bayern Munich and Arsenal. He’s also a legend at Cologne, the club that raised him. Again, judging by his club career, he most definitely doesn’t deserve to be considered one of the best German players to ever adorn the Black and white stripes.

Incredibly, the versatile winger and striker has 130 International caps putting him third – just behind Lothar Matthaus and Miroslav Klose. He’s also the third-highest scorer behind Klose and Gerd Muller with 49 goals. He is one of Joachim Low’s favourites, and a big joker in the dressing room. He even won the 2014 World Cup without playing in the knockout phase.

MAURICIO ISLA

https://i0.wp.com/tushmagazine.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/images-4.jpeg

Isla had the potential to become one of the best players in his position. The talented and utility player showed outstanding promise as a right-back and right-sided midfielder at the start of his career for Udinese. The national team enjoyed his services and rewarded him with frequent call-ups. Isla who has more than 100 caps was present at two World Cups. He was even crucial to their historic Copa America titles in 2015 and 2016.

His club career went down the lane after he left Udinese in 2012. However, Isla was a bench-warmer at Juventus, was relegated when QPR left the English top-tier years back. More so,he wasn’t popular at Marseille either.

EDUARDO VARGAS

https://i0.wp.com/tushmagazine.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/vargas_1-football-stars.jpg

The striker was awarded Copa America top scorer twice – in 2015 and 2016 – Chile won both times. Vargas had a very impressive 2014 World Cup too, scoring in the crucial 2-0 win against Spain.

He has more than 30 goals in over 80 international fixtures. Sadly, his club career in Europe has been woeful. The Chilean was miserable at Napoli, Valencia, QPR and Hoffenheim.

ANGELOS CHARISTEAS

https://i2.wp.com/tushmagazine.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/la-plus-grosse-surprise-dans-l-histoire-de-l-euro-la-victoire-de-la-grece-en-2004-sur-un-but-d-angelos-charisteas-contre-le-portugal-1-0_995d761c934e7bc130471272a35a09bc4eec8d01.jpg

Charisteas will always be remembered as a Greek legend for generations to come, having scored the winning goal against Portugal in the Euro 2014 Final. He scored 25 goals for his country, he is Greece’s second-top scorer of all time. Charisteas was always reliable for the national team. In fact, the Greek had very disappointing spells at Ajax, Feyenoord, Nuremberg, Bayer Leverkusen and Schalke, not to mention a short and unforgetful adventure at French side Arles-Avignon.

ASAMOAH GYAN

https://i0.wp.com/tushmagazine.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/images-3.jpeg

One of Ghana’s all-time greats Gyan and also the best scorer in the national team’s history with over 49 strikes in 106 matches, it’s only right to mention him in the same breath as Tony Yeboah and Abedi Pele. Though, he missed the famous penalty against Uruguay in the 2010 World Cup quarter-finals, but he also scored three goals in that World Cup and his record in major competitions is excellent.
As for his clubs, Gyan had normal spells at Udinese, Rennes and Sunderland, then wasted his career in the UAE and China. At the European turf, his legacy is poor.

https://i2.wp.com/tushmagazine.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/Erin-Ijesha.jpg

TLC warned us back in the 90s not to go chasing waterfalls but we beg to disagree as they didn’t see the beauty that is Erin-Ijesha waterfall. Cascading over rugged rocks, this waterfall provides plenty of chances for stunning photography, provided you don’t mind getting splashed. You can climb each of the fall’s seven levels and once at the top, the view is simply breath-taking! Due to the mountainous terrain of the fall, there are also hiking opportunities for the adventurous at heart. Other attractions in the state include Ooni’s Palace, Ife Museum, Susan Wenger Sacred Grove, Nike Art Centre and the world-famous Osun-Osogbo Festival

Kajuru Castle in Kaduna State

https://i0.wp.com/tushmagazine.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/Kajuru-3.jpeg

This medieval-designed villa, enviously located on a hill in Kajuru village, has grown in popularity to become a tourist magnet for all. This destination is best visited as part of a group as there are 5 rooms, a living room and dining area, a fully serviced kitchen, a sauna, a swimming pool, a grill, detached porch and an open rooftop area for partying. Around the castle are breath-taking views of nature which you may be tempted to conquer if you decide to go hiking. Overall, a bit of heaven in the middle of unspoilt nature.

Obudu Mountain Resort in Cross River

https://i0.wp.com/tushmagazine.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/Obudu-2.jpg

With accolades such as “heaven on earth”, “the best place for your honeymoon” and “a place to experience nature at its best”, this southern resort is definitely up there with the best. The cable car to the top of the mountain is definitely an experience to cherish for a lifetime as the car ascends above the mountain, giving you a chance to appreciate the fine details of the mountain below. Activities at the resort includes golfing, swimming, hiking, bird-watching and there is a fitness centre if you are a gym buff. While in Cross River, you may want to visit the National Park, Afi Mountain Wildlife Sanctuary and Agbokim Waterfalls.

Yankari Game Reserve in Bauchi

People uses bots. At least experienced social media influencers. Why is that guy complaining? That probably was a survey.

We all receive spam messages almost everyday. You just simply ignore but I think he's making a fuse because it's coming from Ahmed.

He must be a supporter of Saraki or other clueless politicians.
Naa. This isn't right. You use bots to spread propaganda, fake news and attack people online?

Health8 Fitness Myths That Are Completely Wrong - Sandra Okeke by mantosa(op): 11:57am On Sep 03, 2018
Often times we hear a lot of strange myths about exercise to the point we actually start believing them. Many of these fitness myths scare a ton of people away from the gym so I’m here to debunk those fitness myths that have probably been circulating around you for a while.

You have to do cardio first.
Truth: The best ways to start your workouts is to strength-train first and then do your cardio session. Why? Running or doing other cardio first will reduce glycogen levels, which can prevent you from training as hard as you need to. I’ve experienced this many times. I end up exhausted after performing a treadmill run before my strength training.

Doing crunches will give you flat.
Truth: Crunches are for your abs muscles and your muscles respond better with good nutrition. You’ll find out moves that include your distal trunk- your shoulders and butt- engage your core more effectively. Doing compound exercises like squats, dead lifts, shoulder presses etc plus high intensity training will burn belly fat more and tone your abs.

The more you sweat; the more calories you’re burning.
Truth: Just because you’re dripping in sweat during your workout session doesn’t mean you necessarily burned any more calories than usual I’m sorry. Sweat is a biological response that cools your skin and regulates internal body temperature. It’s a natural response for your body.

Women who lift weights (strength train) will end up looking too muscular.
Truth: Women typically have less muscle tissue and our bodies produce lower levels of testosterone than men therefore we cannot gain absurd muscle mass just from following a normal weightlifting routine. A woman is less physiologically prone to becoming ‘muscular’. So go ahead and lift weights girls!

You have to stretch or else!
Truth: When you stretch after a workout, your muscles are warm and you benefit from increased blood circulation. Stretching will help your muscles to recover faster from a tough workout. There are obvious benefits of stretching but it’s not a must.

You can spot reduce fat.
Truth: You cannot pick and choose what areas of your body you want to lose weight on. Spot-reduction is not possible unless you go for liposuction. Without such surgery, your body will draw fat from different regions at different rates depending on your genetic makeup.

The best way to lose weight is to not eat:
Truth: The longer your body goes without food, it begins to think it’s starving. Not only do you lose fat but you slow down your metabolism but your body begins to feed on muscle tissue for energy. You need your muscle tissue. There are so many diet options if your goal is to lose weight, not eating should not be one of them .

If you aren’t sore the next day, your workout wasn’t effective enough.
Truth: Soreness is just an inflammation and the chemical response to inflammation. The only yardstick by which you need to measure progress is that of your goal. There are Olympic athletes who haven’t felt soreness in years. Judge your workout by what happens during that workout. Don’t wake up the next day thinking that you’re workout the day before wasn’t effective just because you don’t feel any pain.

There you have it! These fitness myths are completely false.
