Celebrities / Candy Bleakz Says She Is The King Of Street Music With The Release Of Her Debut by mantosa(m): 10:40am On Jun 25, 2022
The name Candy Bleakz may not currently be a household name, but her viral songs preceed her name in Nigerian households. Her recent single Tikuku made rounds on social media as a dance challenge and has garnered over 305,000 videos with the sound.

Before there was a Candy Bleakz, there was BlessKido. When opening up about how Candy Bleakz – birth name Blessing Akiode – derived her stage name, she stated her stage name was formerly BlessKido. Circa 2012 and the influx of new artists with ‘kid’ suffixes to their stage names, Blessing wanted hers to stand out. In that attempt she added two suffixes instead, ‘kid’ and ‘do’ to the first four letters of her name, hence Blesskiddo. It wasn’t long before another name change was cleverly suggested during one of her studio sessions and thus Blesskido morphed to Candy Bleakz.

Candy Bleakz’s sound has many similarities to street music, a genre that has had Nigerians in a chokehold from the early days of Baddest Guy Ever Liveth. The genre is majorly characterized by inserting local slangs, and infusing indigenous languages and Pidgin English into lyrics. The lyrics are primarily odes to hood lifestyle and community. Inasmuch as Candy Bleakz’s sound checks all of those boxes, the artist describes her sound as not just Street music but ‘Afro-Street’.

This constantly earns her sets of furrowed brows from her label execs but the songstress is confident in the term. “I’m making music for everybody, not just the street” She explains to Behind. Despite her music having the sound and style of traditional street music, she assures the content is relatable for all, hence the Pan-African prefix ‘Afro’ to the genre title. One thing that’s clear is she doesn’t relent to describe her sound with a term that seems true to her.

Her confidence in her music wasn’t acquired in weeks but rather from over nine years of music-making. Before becoming affiliated with Chocolate City in 2013, the artiste had begun making music many years before that. Candy Bleakz’s musical exploit dates back to 2011 at Majidun Secondary School. After Blessing (Candy Bleakz), the young class representative emerged winner of an inter-school music competition, her interest in music was piqued. Although she became somewhat of a local champion at her school because of her musical success, it wasn’t until her second year as a physiology student at Olabisi Olabanjo University that she focused purely on music.

Career / 5 Ways To Make Serious Money From Home As A Lady by mantosa(m): 12:37pm On Mar 04, 2022
If someone had told the women in generations before our time that they could have it all, be a wife, mother, and have a successful career all from the comfort of their home, they would never have believed it! They would most likely have laughed at the idea and thought it would never be possible. But the women of this generation are so blessed because, in our time, it is possible! Women at home and abroad are doing it, living the kind of life that women before only dreamed of but thought impossible.

Thanks to social media and the advancements in technology, it is possible to make a lot of money from the comfort of your home and enjoy a work-life balance. There are so many avenues to make money online, and we’re going to explore a few of the most lucrative ones in this blog post.

1. Work as an Audio Book Narrator: You can work with Amazon’s audiobook company – audible, through their platform by becoming a narrator and helping authors turn paper books into audiobooks. A lot of people don’t have the time to read as many books as they would like to, so we turn to platforms like audible for audiobooks. Many authors are aware of this, and because they too don’t have the time to sit down after spending so much time writing, editing, and going through the whole book publishing process, many of them are too burned out to record their audiobooks. This is where you come in. If you have a good command of English and proper pronunciation, go to acx.com, click on the mic icon, find a book you would like to narrate and get to work.

2. Work as a project manager: You can learn project management for free on edX, and then hop on to a website like Just Remote and search for project management roles. There are a ton of companies hiring project managers right now, so you could fill in that gap and start making the big bucks.

3. Design and sell website themes: If you’re good with HTML and you know how to set up a WordPress website, instead of working with clients one-on-one where you have limited time and therefore would make a limited amount of money, what you can do instead is design website themes and put them up on a website like Themeforest and keep selling the same themes over and over and over again.

4. Design and Sell NFTs: NFTs are hot right now, and so many people are cashing out from designing and selling them, and it doesn’t seem like they will be going away anytime soon. I dare say they are the future. There are free courses on Udemy and other websites that can teach you how to design NFTs, and you can make a lot of money from selling them.

5. Make a living as a freelance writer: There are websites such as Fiverr, PeoplePerHour, and many others where you can work as a freelance writer and earn up to $100 per project. Jobs range from content writing, proofreading, writing CVS, business writing, and so on.

Sports / Meet Darryl Jenkins, A Professional Sports Analyst by mantosa(m): 8:43am On Feb 18, 2022
As the most widely used betting service on Instagram, he has spent years helping people turn what they love into profit. The sports betting game seemed to turn over terrible results when it came to winning. Instead of watching everyone lose their hard earned money betting sports, Darryl creates self-made millionaires.

Sports betting is his passion. He knows it so well that it was only natural to turn the industry upside down. But there’s one thing he understood well: no matter how smart you are, or what your background is, everyone loses betting sports. Darryl Jenkins works with some of the biggest bettors in the world who constantly send their betting tickets from casinos in Las Vegas and New Jersey. Before he came on the scene, sports betting was only viewed as a game of chance that you were likely to lose. But with their unique system of taking in essential factors, they increase the probabilities of success.

When it comes to life, confidence is everything. This holds true whether you are betting on sports or betting on yourself. If you don’t believe in what you are doing, you are sure to lose. They knew that they would have to prove themselves and their methods as real players in the betting game. The average winning rate for March Madness can hover around 53%.

Darryl has no fear. Instead, he focuses on bettors. His success comes from the excitement and energy of the sports bettors who are a part of the service they create. Seeing them elated from making money, rather than devastated from losing it, is the ultimate feeling of success. Five Star is a part of changing lives and creating self-made millionaires—all with their winning strategies. This is why they don’t compare themselves to their competition. They are completely redefining sports betting as we know it.

With all of their tremendous success, Darryl Jenkins remains incredibly grateful. He takes pride in helping people elevate their betting game and enjoy sports betting as winners. You can follow him on Instagram @iamparlayp
Health / 4 Bad Skincare Habits To Stop In 2022 by mantosa(m): 1:17pm On Feb 07, 2022
Self-care and skincare practices have taken centre stage in our lifestyle as a result of the pandemic and the outbreak of COVID-19, which caused the lockdown in 2020. We haven’t let go since the lockdown forced us to focus more on caring for our bodies and skin, and we came to enjoy the time spent doing morning and nighttime routines! It’s 2022, and skincare is one of the major beauty trends we mentioned for this year.

It’s wonderful that skincaring has become so important to us, but some people are too focused on getting immediate results and jump from one skincare practice to the next. Others are getting their skincare information from the wrong places, as the Internet and social media have been overrun with “skincare professionals” providing unverified and sometimes harmful advice. Others, on the other hand, are simply stuck in their ways and refuse to let go of some bad skincare habits.

Yvonne, licensed esthetician and BeautySquareke (skin–care store) owner, whose mission is to correctly educate on skincare solutions, shared some skincare habits that should be left behind on her company’s @beautysquareke Instagram page. She listed four not-so-great practices that a lot of people ought to stop, and we will be sharing them with you.

As most people say at the start of every year, “New Year, New Me.” We’re saying, “New Year, New Skincare Practices!” Here are four bad skincare practices that you should drop this year:

Skipping sunscreen or not wearing enough: Sunscreen has to be one of the most important products in your routine. This part you need to get right! Make sure you’re wearing one that’s at least SPF 30, and apply the equivalent of 1/2 a teaspoon to your face, neck, and chest. The two-finger rule is a good guideline.

Using lemon juice, turmeric, and other home remedies to fade hyperpigmentation should have been abandoned in 2010, along with all of Pinterest’s other terrible skincare tips. I think this year we’ve established that formulated skincare works best and is less likely to damage your skin. And we now know everything is a chemical, so the “natural” skincare bandwagon is not a thing.

Picking at your pimples: This actually worsens hyperpigmentation and can worsen atrophic scarring. Don’t do it. If you can’t stop yourself, get some pimple patches.

Not giving a product enough time to work: Please, two weeks is not enough time to conclude that a serum is not fading your dark spots. To see progress with hyperpigmentation, you must give it at least 12 weeks. Good things take time!

Art, Graphics & Video / 4 Nigerian Artists Killing It In The NFT Space by mantosa(m): 12:13pm On Jan 18, 2022
Digital art and NFTs may be relatively new in Nigeria but many Nigerian artists have already hopped on the fast-paced NFT wave. In the last two years, there have been a number of artists whose consistency has earned them leading spots in the digital art space. From a 31-year-old former librarian turned artist to a 21-year-old all-round creative, here’s a list of 4 Nigerian artists killing it in the NFT space.

Jacon Osinachi

Former librarian turned visual artist, Jacon Osinachi is currently one of the top three leading NFT creators in Nigeria. It wasn’t until 2019 till his pieces started to gain some form of recognition and sales in the slowly emerging NFT space. As the pandemic kicked in 2020, so did sales in his pieces. As galleries suspended in-person meets, collectors started to look towards digital art to add to their collections. Osinachi’s pieces have sold over $75,000 in the last year.

Anthony Azekwoh

Anthony is a multi-faceted artist who started off writing short stories at an early age. He gained popularity on Twitter with his written exposé on his unjust experience at university. From short stories to full-length books, Anthony carried his followers along his writing journey. Alongside writing, he shared some of his paintings on social media when one of his paintings ‘The Red Man’ went viral and garnered international attention. As he began building his career as an artist he wasted no time in delving into NFTs which are currently taking the art scene by storm.

Niyi Okeowo

Niyi Okeowo is a multidisciplinary artist who’s a photographer, art director, visual artist and graphic designer. Back in 2018, he began a visual collection titled Mr Colors, that explores themes of futurism, afrofuturism, isolation, anxiety, exploration and geometric structures. Now the art director of Ashluxe, he goes on not only to be a creative lead of the clothing brand, but to also carry on creating digital art for his other clients.

Davies – @rkt444

Davies is a music producer and digital artist who ventured into digital art while messing around with graphic design a few years ago. After spending hours admiring gradient art on Pinterest, he got inspired to make some of his own. His journey involves constant experimenting to grow as an artist. Some of his experimental series include the “Quantum” series or “Solaris”, which involves experimental use of texture, colors, shape and individuality.

The digital space currently gives Nigerian creatives unlimited freedom to create and share their work with a larger audience. It’s impressive to witness the amount of Nigerians succeeding in the art space as it constantly evolves.

TV/Movies / 6 Nigerian Movies To Watch Out For In 2022 by mantosa(m): 9:45am On Jan 12, 2022
It’s 2022 and I don’t know about you but I’m very hopeful for what Nollywood has to offer us this year. Those of you that have already written the entire industry off because of a certain film, calm down first. One film doesn’t always represent the entirety of the industry. This is the year of the underdogs, the indie filmmakers who are telling untold stories. Here are a couple of movies that we’re looking forward to this year.

1. For Maria

The multi-award-winning film, For Maria, directed by Damilola Orimogunje, is finally coming to our screens. The long-awaited film premiers on Netflix on January 16th. The film tells a story of a young woman, Derin, who after a complicated child delivery, struggles with the reality of postpartum depression.

2. Juju Stories

Another film festival favorite hits the Nigerian screens later this month. Juju Stories, a three-part anthology that explores popularized juju stories (literally). The anthology film written and directed by Abba T. Makama, C.J. Obasi, and Michael Omonua, explores three popularized Juju stories rooted in Nigerian folklores. Juju Stories is coming to cinemas nationwide on January 21st.

3. The Man For The Job

A Niyi Akinmolayan classic is coming to us this year and we’re ready to receive it. Last year Anthill productions put in the work with their films and it showed in their box office numbers. The little information we’ve received about this film includes Niyi Akinmolayan as the director and the film plot surrounding cybercrime.

4. Collision Course

Who isn’t excited for another BAP film? I don’t know about you but we are and can’t wait to see it. The details of the release date haven’t been disclosed but from Bolanle Austin Peters’ Instagram, she assures us it’ll be released real soon (not so much but we can only be hopeful right?). The film follows the story of a law enforcement officer and musician whose paths cross and worlds collide.

5. The Black Book

This Anakle project has been in the works for almost two years and is set to be released later in the year. the exact date hasn’t been revealed by the production company yet but we’re hoping it will be released as soon as possible. Directed by Editi Effiong, the film stars notable talents including Richard Mofe Damijo and Femi Branch.

6. Baby Maker

A friendship goes sour after Nasa decides to have a child with her best friend Mofe. After recovering from a myomectomy, Nasa is advised by her doctor to conceive in time to avoid complications in the future. After a failed IVF procedure with her best friend Mofe, she decides to conceive the natural way with him. A mix of feelings stir up and start to rock their tight-knit friendship. The film was written by Adaora Udeh and directed by Orimz, it also features Kunle Remi, Adaora Udeh, Bolaji Ogunmola, and Alvan Udeh. Information on the exact release date is still unavailable.

These are just six out of the many unannounced movies we’re going to be graced with this year. If you’re not slightly excited for any of this then I dont know for you again. This looks like it’s going to be a good year for film.

TV/Movies / 5 Things We Are Expecting From 'Chief Daddy 2' by mantosa(m): 12:20pm On Dec 20, 2021
The new year is fast approaching and I don’t know about you all but the holidays aren’t hitting the way they used to hit. Covid and its unwanted sister Omicron have dulled things for us for almost two years, but no need to fret, Netflix and Mo Abudu have got us covered. The sequel to Ebonylife’s blockbuster, Chief Daddy, is set for a Netflix release on January 1st, 2022.

The trailer for the highly anticipated film was released yesterday and it’s very much giving what we hoped it would give. The trailer teases us with a couple of new characters and an idea of the plot of the film. From the trailer, here are a few things we expect to see in Chief Daddy 2: Going For Broke.

A Whole Lot of Drama

Just like the first movie, we’re expecting premium drama. I mean I need to see people throwing hands, some emotional manipulation, some double crossing, some kind of elaborate fraud, you know the kind of stuff that would make you gasp loudly. From the trailer, we see a hint of drama, but I say no need to minimize the drama you know? the trailer teases us with some gossiping, little arguing, and backstabbing. I say go big (in a reasonable, believable, contextual manner of course) or go home.

Steamy Romance and Maybe Heartbreak?

I’m all for romance in Nollywood films, only when it isn’t cringe and nauseating. If you think about it this will be the third movie Mawuli Gavor and Beverly Naya play love interests, are they trying to tell us something? This is how people mistakenly fall in love o. Anyway, I’m not complaining because they’re amazing to watch. From the trailer, it looks like their sweet paradise is having some unforeseen troubles. Breakfast on New Year’s day? O wrong now. Either way, we are preachers of love over here so we want to see love and romance that’ll make single people sad.

A Lavish Birthday Party

A movie about silly (used-to-be) rich Lagosians without a glamorous party? you dey whine Nollywood? There looks like there’s going to be a party scene and we’re expecting to witness it. it would help reinforce what we want for our own birthdays in the new year. So Ms. Abudu please make sure that birthday scene really makes me rethink most of my past financial decisions.

Extravagant Dubai Scenes

As Tarantino is to film cameras, so is Ebonylife to Dubai. It’s turning to a trademark at this point. I’m not sure I know the reason why they always need to go abroad but it’s not my film, right? From the trailer we see Famzy going to Dubai for a tour and he’s not spending petty change while he’s there. Inasmuch as I’m, not a crazy fan of overseas scenes, it won’t be bad watching them live lavishly in Dubai and enjoy themselves.

Big Money Famzy Concert

You see that jam Famzy gave us in the first movie? it still lives in my head rent-free till today and now they’re back with a sequel, I need to hear him perform it. I’m talking proper concert coverage, not half concert with comedic and drama-filled intermissions o.

TV/Movies / 5 Ways To Make Money In The Film Industry by mantosa(m): 10:55am On Nov 23, 2021
The plain truth is one does not have to be a filmmaker to cash out from the film industry. There are several other ways to make bank even as non-professional in the industry. Here are a few of those ways.

Rent Out Location

If you have a space that you know is camera-worthy, you should definitely look into renting it out to filmmakers to use as a location for their film. It could be a restaurant or a house or even an empty backlot. Charging affordable rates to indie filmmakers and reaching out to well-known producers will help your pockets in the long run. Indie filmmakers are always in need of location, so creating a set from a space you have and renting it out will surely make you some secondary income.

2. Rent Out Equipment

Another lucrative rental business. If you’re not broke like me, who’s writing the actual article, or the others who are reading, you could definitely invest in film equipment and start a rental business with it. Equipment rentals can go as high as millions if you acquire the right equipment. You could create affordable packages for indie filmmakers or more attractive packages for already established filmmakers.

3. Fund & Produce Movies

If you’re richer than the person in the previous paragraph who can afford to invest in equipment, then you should consider investing in films. Become an executive producer and help fund films. I can’t assure you a particular amount in ROI but with time and experience, you’ll start making big bank. Funding films doesn’t mean you finance the entirety of the film, you can decide to contribute your finances to a certain need; it could be financing the equipment, or cast pay, or marketing.

4. Create an Online Course

So this is for people who probably went to film school but don’t entirely want to get into the industry anymore or old heads who’ve actually been in the industry for long enough and are tired of the hustle and bustle. If you’re knowledgeable in a topic related to film and filmmaking you could create an online course and put it out on an e-learning platform. It’s a great way to make passive income.

5. Rent Out Props

Another rental business idea for you, rent out props. You may have bunch of items that you think are cool but you don’t exactly need, don’t throw it away, rent it out. If you think it may be hard renting out random items independently, try working with the guy from number one who’s starting a location rental business. You both could partner and create packages for clients that offer location and selected props.

With all this information, there’s no reason for you to stay broke and allow sapa to romance you. Start making money in the film industry today!

Health / 6 Ways To Stay Healthy This Summer by mantosa(m): 11:34am On Oct 19, 2021
Summer is here. With the telltale of noticeable increase in temperature, it is crucial to be mindful of the possible impact the heat can have on one’s health. Your body can be vulnerable to different diseases due to the warm weather such as dehydration, sunburn and heatstroke.

We are living during difficult times because of the coronavirus pandemic and with the emerging summertime, the risk of encountering these summer health issues is not completely gone. Here are some tips to stay healthy and protected.

1. Stay hydrated

It is essential to stay hydrated as the heat in the summer months can leave your body dehydrated. Drinking plenty of water and other liquids is important to ensure there is no loss of water from your body and it prevents exhaustion.

You must avoid drinking carbonated and intoxicating drinks as well as unfiltered water. Eating fruit with high water content such as watermelon, cucumbers and vegetables can also help with hydration. You can get creative by adding frozen berries or mint into your water.

2. Healthy and proper dieting

Eating with mindfulness will ensure healthy living in the summertime. You should opt for meals that are small and light. It is important to avoid salty and processed foods including heavy stuff in your meals like fast food and junk. Eating a well-balanced diet is also important to keep the body’s immune system in peak condition.

3. Staying active

The quarantine although hinders frequent social interactions, it creates an avenue to put your exercise plans to the test. Regular exercise is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle. You should try getting some exercise done either in the early morning hours or by going for shorter walk breaks in the evenings when the sun is not as strong. You can as well get yourself involved in home-friendly activities such as gardening and doing yard work.

4. Appropriate skin care

Taking care of your skin is important in the summer, especially when going for outings. It is important to use sunscreen before leaving home and also cream moisturizer for dry skin so as to avoid sunburns. It is rather advisable to use a medically recommended skincare product by the doctor or any health professional.

5. Adequate rest

Getting enough sleeping aids healing because our bodies heal and repair while we are sleeping so make sure you’re getting adequate sleep. Getting enough sleep prevents high blood pressure and increased hunger. Hence, make sure to give yourself at least seven to nine hours of sleep a night.

6. Have fun

Engaging yourself in fun activities like watching movies, venturing into outdoor settings or exploiting and honing your talent can alleviate stress, eliminate boredom and increase productivity.

Romance / 4 Shocking Modern-day Dating Concepts Amongst Gen Z! by mantosa(m): 12:34pm On Oct 01, 2021
Things have gotten complicated since the time of our parents. Most millennials and Gen-Z will agree with me that dating has become sort of a “labyrinthine” experience. The rules of the game are different. If you don’t keep up, it can lead to being served unnecessary “breakfast” (heartbreak). In our parents time, it was pretty straightforward; you meet someone, you court them for a while, and you get married, the end. But now, a few more stages have been added, and things are no longer defined the way they used to.

Here are the four current dating concepts that you should know about:

The Talking Stage: After meeting someone either physically or online and you fancy each other, you immediately move into the “Talking Stage”. This is where you chat all the time, talking into the late hours of the night. You go to bed and wake up with calls or messages from each other. All this time; is spent learning more about each other and feeling out the vibe. The outcome of this will determine if you will be moving onto the next stage.

The Dating Stage: The talking stage went well, and now you’re going on dates. A lot of people consider this to be a relationship simply because you’re hanging out more often now and doing things together. Let me burst your bubble, this stage is not a relationship! Unless expressly communicated to you. A lot of people get super committed at this stage and start envisioning a future with whoever they’re dating. This ultimately leads to heartbreaks and disappointments because you assume the other person is committed to you until you find out otherwise. Some people at this stage are still weighing their options, and seeing other people, so you should not get too attached.

The Exclusive Stage: Most people are not aware of this stage. And thus assume that whoever they’re dating, is dating only them. Thanks to Love Island Season 7, I was able to discover this stage. This stage is a step up in the dating stage, just before the relationship stage. Here you and your partner express your intention to date each other exclusively! And you’re both on the same page. This provides some form of assurance that the person is only interested in you and they’re not sleeping with other people (fingers crossed). This stage is still not a relationship, and all relationship-type expectations should be kept at bay.

The Relationship Stage: If you are unsure if you’re in a relationship with someone, 9 out of 10 times, you’re not! This stage is and should be expressly defined! This means that the guy has asks the lady to be his girlfriend, and if we’re being progressive, the lady asks the guy to be her boyfriend. There’s no guess work or assumption about this; it’s either clear or you are not in a relationship. At this stage, you have jumped all the hurdles above, and you are ready to commit to each other. If you are currently at this stage, congratulations! Most barely make it here, and it is not an easy feat.

I used to be one of those people that fought tooth and nail that dating equalled a relationship like I know some of you currently are. But after several breakfasts forcing me to face reality, I’ve put down my battle axe and accepted the new order of things. Even if you hate this concept, the reality is that it is here to stay. If you take nothing away from this blog post, take this: dating is different from a relationship. Know this and know peace.

Business / 4 Tips To Use When A Customer Is Wrong by mantosa(m): 10:01am On Sep 09, 2021
Almost everyone is an advocate for pleasing the customer but what do we do when the customer is wrong? There’s no scope to address the range of what the customer can do wrong. Sometimes, the customer is wrong and can make honest mistakes. The customer can also plan to take evil intentioned steps for personal reasons. Here are a few steps to take when handling a badly behaved customer.

Remain Respectful

Don’t fall into the trap of using swear or abusive words. Don’t disrespect the customer. It’s important to note that other customers are watching. They will be on your side as long as you remain respectful.

Focus on the issue

Focus on the issue. Being respectful allows you to focus on the issue. The customer may try to change the conversation or bring in unnecessary events but stay on the issue.

Give the customer a voice

Let the customer have the opportunity to say their own side of the story. Listen with the goal to understand their side of the story and their perspective. They just might have a point you need to take note of.

Take respectful legal steps

In some cases, you may need the customer to leave your premises. Take such steps within the limits of the law. Ensure your steps are respectful and involve law enforcement if necessary. Insist that law enforcement remain respectful.

Finally, you don’t need the customer’s apology to move on. Once the issue has been resolved and the facts are in your favour. It’s important to be the bigger person and move on.

Romance / 12 Bonding Tips For Introverted Couples by mantosa(m): 1:41pm On Jul 27, 2021
I like to think that introversion can be closely knit with the love of creativity and an introspective overview of the arts.

Still, while I choose not to identify as an introvert but just a full-blown homebody, I wrote this as a personal wish list, well-now a personal guide, for those couples who are really into the intimate, dreamy and soft side of romance and expressive affections.

So, if you’re not the type to do the most but in your heart, the thoughts are what counts, here are a few date nights and intimate bonding activities for you and your special person.

1. Play Video Games

From GTA, Mortal Kombat to Ratchet Clank etc. There is nothing as hilarious and soul satisfying as having to compete, especially when there is a price to pay (who wants to be a loser? I mean!)

And you can always order in or enjoy some home made meal and wine while you’re at it

2. Social Service

While this is quite unlikely, offering help to partner with a Non Profit Organization will give you a much better perspective into the personality of your lover.

Volunteering jobs can be quite messy especially if it has to do with the slums; from personal experience, it boosts the quality of conversation you’ll both have afterwards.

I must warn you, HECTIC THOUGH!

3. Connecting with Nature

For better context, catching the sun rise.

While this particular subject matter doesn’t quite give me a satisfying nostalgia as it reminds me of a terrible ex, I have to confess that there is nothing as beautiful as catching the sun rise.

I know life isn’t a movie but hey! make it one; a good one at that.

4. Karaoke

Hmmm… get drunk first.

Just to embolden you except you can afford a SingTrix set or Tonor Karaoke home set.

Now, that’s another definition of cool stuff.

5. Picnic Dates

I would say that this is city specific as not every town might have spaces that encourage this.

As a resident of the Federal Capital Territory in Nigeria, if you are interested in this option, please reach out to me or visit the PrettyAbuja/AlternativeFunandEntertainment page on Instagram to get more details about relatively good ideas.

6. Bowling

I don’t need to say too much about this.

If you have experienced this, then you know the vibe.

7. Dance Classes

From pole dancing, salsa, Zumba etc, a perfect option to loosen up and just wile away time.

8. Skating

Relative to Nigeria, your best bet is to go roller skating. Don’t worry about losing balance, that will give you both something to laugh about later.

9. Book Bonding

There’s something romantic about rubbing hands on paperback and taking in the smell of freshly printed books.

10. Couples Massage

Relaxing and mostly the best price for two.

11. Cook together

Go extra, research and make an exquisite 3 course meal for you both.

12. A Vacation

The ultimate option for any and every couple, find a favorite spot and live it out.

In addition, introversion can breed room for miscommunication and while this is indeed a fact, couples should be open to the idea of therapy. It is always an option.

Art, Graphics & Video / 4 Most Expensive Nigerian Art Pieces by mantosa(m): 10:27am On Jun 29, 2021
Art in Nigeria has lost a bit of value and popularity; gone are the days when families were known to be artists just as others were known to be farmers, traders, drummer, or hunters. When I talk about art, I don’t mean the general art of music, film or tv; I’m talking about sculptures and paintings. It is a little bit sad that art is still a less respected career path, despite the amount of work and time that goes into building ones career. I guess it’s because of the fluidity of the industry, I would understand parents wanting career and income stability for their kids.

As a country historically known for greatness and overall talent, Nigeria is the home to hundreds of world renown artists. Here are five of the most expensive art pieces in Nigeria.

NJIDEKA AKUNYILI’s ‘BUSH BABIES’ $3.4M

Njideka’s 2017 ‘Bush Babies’ is known as the most expensive recorded Nigerian Art piece sold. Her mixed media piece sold for $3.4M (N1.2 Billion) at Sotheby’s New York, officially breaking the record as the most expensive Nigerian art piece.

BEN ENWONU’s TUTU $1.6M

After decades of its disappearance, one of the only three paintings of Adetutu Ademiluyi by Ben Enwonwu resurfaced in 2017. The mystery and sudden disappearance of the painting caused it to attract more attention and value. The painting sold for $1.6M (N658 million) in 2018.

NJIDEKA AKUNYILI’s ‘DROWN ‘ $1M

Njideka Akunyili Crosby can easily be identified as one of the most successful Nigerian Artists. With two of her artworks on this list, it’s kind of hard to deny she is as successful and talented as some of the greatest Nigerian Artists. Her art piece ‘Drown’ sold for $1M (N400 million).

TOYIN OJIH ODUTOLA ‘COMPOUND LEAF‘ $597,336

Toyin Ojih Odutola’s 2017 painting,Compound Leaf , sold for $597,336 (N246M) at Sotheby’s New York in 2019 . This sale put her at one of the three highest paying Nigerian Artists, joining Njideka Akunyili Crosby and Ben Enwonwu.

Career / 3 Easy Tips To Starting A Career In Art Curation by mantosa(m): 2:12pm On Jun 24, 2021
Being an Art Curator is a career that involves working closely with art galleries, museums and most importantly, artists. Art Curators to an extent are storytellers too if you think about it. In creating an exhibition, they decide what pieces make up the story both the artist and the curator are trying to tell and decide how the story should be told. Curators develop ways art could be interpreted through exhibitions, publication, installations, audio and audio-video presentations.

Asides from the suavity that comes with introducing oneself as an art curator, it’s a career that requires a lot of work including buying and organising exhibitions, identifying and recording items, and negotiating funding and loaning of art pieces. If this is a career, you’re interested in but not exactly sure how to start, these are 3 easy tips you need to start your career in Art Curation.

VOLUNTEER

Volunteering at a gallery or a museum is a great way to get hands on experience in Museum/gallery management and art curation. It doesn’t have to be a large scale gallery or museum, there are hundreds of local galleries perched around Lagos (if you live in Lagos). Find a local gallery and volunteer.

INTERN AT A GALLERY OR MUSEUM

Internships are also good ways to infiltrate into the art business. Through internships, you gain professional experience in the art industry. You could intern at either large scale or small scale museums, depending on the kind of experience you want to get. Who knows, if you show enough determination, willingness to learn and a sense of dedication, they might just take you on board full time.

GET A RELEVANT DEGREE

It may not be enough to volunteer or intern at a museum or gallery. Most art curators have a bachelors degree in Art or Art History or Post Graduate degree in art or specialised arts. If you’re serious about starting a career in Art Curation, it is never too late to get a Post Graduate degree, it takes between a year to three years. However, if getting a Post Graduate degree is not a feasible option, you can always learn online.

Music/Radio / #DavidoAt10: Here Are 10 Times Davido Impressed Us On Guest Features by mantosa(m): 2:02pm On May 10, 2021
It seems just like a short time. Ten years ago, Davido came through with his joyous debut single, Back When which kickstarted his music journey. When he would follow it up with the boastful, smash hit, Dami Duro, occupants of the universe knew at that point, a new star had penetrated the planet.

The next ten years that will follow will be a trajectory involving controversies, endless hit songs and of course enormous awards and feats that have not stopped trooping in.

We are in awe of Davido’s music making prowess and we look back at ten songs where he stamped his presence, utilizing his glossy vocals as an attraction to listeners.

Here are ten times he impressed us on guest features.

1. Tekno — Holiday feat. Davido

At this time span, both Davido and Tekno were just making the transition from adolescence into adulthood. Leaving their teenage lives behind.

And on this melodious blend of piano taps and catchy drums, both Tekno and Davido take turns to infatuate about girls of their interest and the comfortable lives they’re living.

It’s an enjoyable tune which enjoyed heavy rotation on radio and got seen a lot on music TV channels.

2. Runtown —Gallardo feat. Davido

On this eastern highlife inspired tune, the sonic synergy between Runtown and Davido is faultless. Is it Runtown’s expression or Davido’s gliding effortlessly on the track?

Davido’s aura is felt all through the track and he finds spaces in the beat where he makes the perfect connection, alleviating the song to another level.

3. Sinzu – Carolina feat. Davido

Man, this song was everywhere in 2012. At a time when there were still CD shops at street corners, this was a song that banged from the speakers of those shops. If you bought a DJ mixtape around this period, it was one of the tracks that appeared on those mixtapes.

Davido with his warm, supple voice kickstarting the track slows you into the feels of the song and when Sinzu’s rhythmic first verse would come to an end, you’ll want to hear Davido’s ear-wormy input again.

4. Lil Kesh — Shoki feat. Davido and Olamide

At a period when Davido was reigning in the popularity of songs like Aye and Tchelete, Shoki was the song that reaffirmed Davido’s effect on songs as a track changer. He had brought that fervency on “Tchelete” and now on Shoki, his verse was delivered in a slow, measured take.

Shoki was already a viral pop number that year but with the addition of Olamide and Davido, it was like sprinkling more flavor into an already sweet soup.

5. Falz — Bahd Baddo Baddest feat. Davido and Olamide

At the beginning of 2016, Davido had nicked a deal with Sony Music amidst a list of controversies ploughing through his career. One of such was with his Uncle to his baby mama, Dele Momodu.

Playing with their alter ego, the trio of Falz, Davido and Olamide trade lyrics fueled mainly with self confidence and the star power they’ve accumulated. While Olamide weaved lines around money, Davido took a violent, unrestrained route.

With his menacing, ferocious delivery, he signals to colleagues that he’s clear in terms of wealth and achievements, and you all know “Mr Dele na my boy”.

6. DJ Spinall — Olowo feat. Davido and Wande Coal

Perhaps one angle you should feature Davido on is when your tracks is hinged on talks of wealth. DJ Spinall probably knew this was an area where Davido thrived well, because of course he’s wealthy.

On Olowo, he links the boisterous David and the sweet-sounding Wande Coal on a bouncy beat. Davido doesn’t miss, reminding he’s been pooling in funds since he was a kid.

7. Reminisce — Daddy Mi feat. Davido

2014 vibes. There’s not so much to say about this track except that Davido’s verse turned into some sort of recitation for many listeners.

“Everything is nice, the bang is banging/The time is right, I see the money coming.”

8. Patoranking — Confirm feat. Davido

When he jumps on heavy percussion beats like this, there’s no limit to his expression.

And on Confirm where Patoranking leads with monetary pleas to the creator, Davido revels in luxury. You see how things halts when he storms in and how the tempo ascends higher by the time he starts spewing those swaggering words.

He boasts, delivers a short rap flow, and you want to be in that same bragging mood as he is.

9. ECool — Ada feat. Davido

The year 2017 was a turning point for Davido. First, he was reeling off the worst year of his career (2016) and was armed without a hit for more than a year.

Then, with the help of production geniuses, Tekno and Kiddominant, he would derive a new sound genre, Pon Pon from the reigning Banku sound. With that, hits like If and Fall were crafted. The following year, Ada still created from the sound was released and he was able to sneak a diss at actress Caroline Danjuma.

10. Kizz Daniel — One Ticket feat. Davido

Kizz Daniel had once collaborated with Davido for his debut hit single, Woju. But four years later, Kizz Daniel was at a stage where he was turning into an industry mainstay, cooking up enthralling singles listeners craved and grooved to.

In 2018, he would enlist the help of Davido again for the year-ending hit, One Ticket. And of course, Davido’s hook would ring around, becoming a memory verse of some sort.

TV/Movies / Meet Vince Offer, Founder Of Square One Entertainment by mantosa(m): 7:45am On Apr 17, 2021
As the founder of Square One Entertainment, Inc. (SOE), a production and distribution company that handles infomercials and skits, Vince Offer has many things on his plate. “I have a lot of hats, because I do almost everything myself, but I find product, write a script for the product, launch the product on TV networks, make it a household name and then distribute it to our sub-distributors who then bring them to retail stores,” he says. But what primarily drives Mr. Offer is the prospect of working on these ideas and developing them to profitable ventures.
“I really like to focus on products and ideas, and help develop that,” he says. “Because everyone has an idea, and a concept or maybe a prototype. If I can take a rag like the Shamwow and make it a muli-million dollar brand then I’m sure I can take that with a real inventor or business person with a prototype.”

The confidence that he can make a success of anything comes from his youth where a love for comedy and their intersection with being used as a tool for passing information led to him dropping out of school and moving to Los Angeles.

In Los Angeles, he made a success of himself by first transitioning from working at a free-for-all TV station to writing skits for a show that starred Jim Carrey. But the real breakthrough came when he started working on his own full-length ideas, resulting in two skit movies called The Underground Comedy Movie, and then another sequel to that called Inappropriate Comedy.
From there, Mr. Offer has moved on to bigger things like the aforementioned production company he set up as well as made infomercials that have helped to make over $100 million in cumulative sales. To hear him tell it, he is only getting started. “I am working on 2 TV shows with some very top producers and executives in Hollywood,” he says about what the future holds for him. “One is a TV talk show about Political Correctness, and the other is a reality show about product.”

Properties / How Sandro J. Stadelmann Is Revolutionizing The Austrian Real Estate Industry by mantosa(m): 8:17pm On Mar 19, 2021
With the world in constant flux due to the deleterious effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, several industries have been forced to go under or imagine what the future would look like without them. Not the real estate industry however, despite the uncertainties of the pandemic period, real estate continues to thrive in Austria, and Sandro J. Stadelmann is helping to revolutionize the industry in keeping with 21st century standards.

Inspired by Arnold Schwarzenegger, the entrepreneur had a difficult path into the business, having to work in the military for a year before he found his path into the real estate world. “I didn't have an easy youth and when I was 20, I decided to do a year abroad in the military,” he said. “After that year, I decided to pursue a career in the real estate business.”

In 2017, Sandro decided to found his own company, Mister Immo GmbH, and he’s been building the company since then, focusing on cutting edge tech and innovative marketing to link real estate sellers and buyers of high-end apartments in the German-speaking areas of Austria and Germany.

“Me and my team go the extra mile of the extra mile for our customers,” he says. “We rely on highly effective marketing and ensure that both interested parties and real estate sellers receive the best possible advice.”

Sandro’s plan for the future is two-fold: First he wants to become the most successful and best-known real estate agent in the German speaking area and build up a multi-million Euro company as the year goes on, establishing how own business dynasty.

Importantly, he also wants to help the next generation of real estate find their footing in a world that’s becoming increasingly digital.

Properties / How Nate Kennedy Overcame Adversity To Form His Own Empire by mantosa(m): 7:16pm On Mar 18, 2021
During the 2008 recession, serial entrepreneur Nate Kennedy lost his brick-and-mortar store, along with his income. But instead of giving up, Kennedy turned to a virtual business model instead and has enjoyed incredible success. “I’ve owned multiple businesses over the years and currently own, invest in, and operate as a board member to different companies. A marketing agency that runs FB Ads for the home services industry (Optimized Assets). A Media Company (Click Movement). An Education/Content Company (Marketing Rebels).”

These companies aren’t the only things Kennedy works on. He also has a few projects in the works. “One is launching our 1-Step Funnel Training Program to help Entrepreneurs build a High-Profit, Lifestyle driven business. We also launched the Marketing Cartel, which is our high-level mastermind for Lifestyle Entrepreneurs. One more project in the pipeline is Modern Patriots, an apparel company that focuses on Respect for our Country and Compassion for our People.” Kennedy is also working on a book that details the methods he’s used to achieve success. While still in the works, it’s focus on mindset and tenacity will prove to make it a valuable resource in the future.

But how can Kennedy keep up with all of these different demands? “FOCUS - There is no lack of information or people fighting for your business when you get started. You will need to avoid shiny object syndrome. Being able to keep focus on your goal and execute effectively will help you succeed. Do the Work and after you are rolling you need to quickly find the WHO to do the HOW. It’s the only way to go from a high-paid employee of your own business to a Business Owner with a great TEAM.”

Kennedy managed to bounce back from economic devastation due to hard work and single-minded determination, and he now offers the lessons he learned to others. “Break Free from people’s opinions. Everyone has opinions, so being able to determine what ones to listen to was a big obstacle as well.”

Sports / Top 5 Sports Women Of Nigerian Descent by mantosa(m): 1:51pm On Mar 13, 2021
Unlike the popular opinion that women are hard to come by in sports, the frontier has changed immensely in the past decade and more women continue to break grounds in sports. Sports has been welcoming to women and it is one of the most powerful platforms for promoting gender equality and empowering women in today’s world. Women are making mark in it and it is worthy of emulation. The most inspiring women are those who play sports, run tracks and share their opinion by writing or speaking on radio and TV or who stand on or beside the pitch and report sport events for lovers of the game. These women are reputable international stars to acclaimed media personalities.

Asisat Oshoala

At her young age, Asisat is the only Nigerian woman to have represented top-tier teams in England and in Spain. In less than three years, Asisat has scored more than 60 goals for both clubs and country.

The four-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year has helped Nigeria to three African Women’s Championship titles and was part of the U20 team that reached the final of the 2014 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup that took place in Canada.

Eniola Aluko

The Nigerian-born Eni Aluko won over 100 caps for England and she will be remembered for her calling out her ex-coach Mark Sampson for alleged racism. She also played for Chelsea women and Juventus women. She spent a total of eight years at Chelsea, where she scored 68 goals in 158 appearances.

She remains an active figure in the industry, however, working as a pundit and regularly writing in the Guardian about the intersection of football, race and gender. She is also the current Sporting director of Aston Villa Women Football Club.

During her job as a pundit at the 2018 World Cup, she gave an acute assessment of Costa Rica’s style of play.

Osereme Inegbenebor

Pop culture is the line connecting music, movies, sports, gaming, fashion and lifestyle. Engaging young people without these topics these days has been a challenge and this is where we find Osereme Inegbenebor pushing that agenda.

As a co-host on Budweiser’s Kings of Football show on DSTV’s SuperSport, she has quickly become the most sought-after pundit in Nigeria on the coolest sports show on TV. As an actor, presenter and fashion model, Osareme has introduced fashion and pop culture into the show. It is no surprise she is appealing to football lovers who flood the show every week.

Chioma Chukwujindu Onyekwere

The world of athletics has celebrated numerous and successful names. Among all these big names is Chioma nicknamed Cici. Her energetic throws have made her a name to reckon with in Discus. She has set records in high school, African championships and world championships.

She holds a personal best record of 61.38 meters for the Discus throw at the 2019 World Athletics Championships.

Academically, she has been recognized for her academic achievement as a student athlete at the University of Maryland for four years by the Big Ten.

Te’a Cooper

She has been the cover girl for the newly rebranded Women National Basketball (WNBA). Fans applaud her for her physique and talent. She is also engaged to NBA player Dwight Howard. Music/Radio / 7 Women Working Behind The Scenes, Contributing To The Growth Of Nigerian Music by mantosa(m): 4:23pm On Mar 08, 2021
An overview of the Nigerian music space will reveal some disparity. More men, less women. Five, six male hitmakers and on the other side is perhaps just one female A-list act. We barely have one female producer too.

But a look at the teams of these artists counters that disparity. On teams, companies’ boards, we’re seeing more women. Women leading teams, better managing artists and contributing to their success. An artist like Wizkid has Jada P managing the business side of things and serving as a representative.

Here in this article, we look at how seven ladies are contributing to the growth of the Nigerian music space.

1. Osagie Osarenz — Artist Manager/Country Manager, OneRPM

Osagie is best known for scouting Wizkid even before his EME days. She groomed the act, closely working with him for five years. On her resume, are artists who’ve owed their breakthrough to her relentless efforts.

Osagie currently has YCee, Terri, Timaya, Reminisce under her full-service management agency, The Zone Agency. In 2020, Osagie was made the country manager for the music distribution company, OneRPM.

2. Vanessa Amadi (Miss Amadi) — Publicist/Artist Manager to Tiwa Savage

An enigma and a power bloc on her own, Miss Amadi’s influence cuts across different sectors—not just music alone—and she’s also stamped her influence on other music spaces—not just Nigerian music alone.

Playing a significant role in Tiwa Savage’s deal with Universal Music, she also manages the act and her brand, VAPR, handles PR for Davido and Fireboy.

3. Kimani Moore — Artist Manager to Tay Iwar & Odunsi

When the Alte genre was hovering around the mainstream space between 2017-2018, one figure who was instrumental to the eventual penetration was Kimani Moore.

Managing Odunsi and Tay Iwar, the two artists would go on to release their debut albums, earning worldwide attention and gaining enormous streams as well.

She’s also worked with Larry Gaaga and presently has Deto Black and Mowalola on her roster.

4. Aibee Abidoye — Vice President, Chocolate City

Aibee has scaled up the leader in recent years. Joining Chocolate City Music in 2013 as a General Manager, Aibee currently serves as the Executive Vice President at the label.

In her capacity, Aibee is responsible for managing the overall operations of the label including strategy development and implementation.

Armed with a background in law and intellectual property, she played a vital role in the partnership between Chocolate City and Warner Music.

5. Rima Tahini — A&R Director, Mavin

When Ladipoe was giving his acceptance speech at the Headies weeks back, he mentioned how an A&R director at his record label picked the song, “Know You” as his next release.

That A&R is Rima Tahini who has contributed immensely to the success the record label has recorded in the last three years.

In 2019, Rima being a part of the investment firm, Kupanda Holdings worked out a deal with the label and Kupanda.

6. Fawehinmi Oyinkansola (Foza Doza) — Entertainment Lawyer and President, DMCE

When it comes to sharing knowledge about intellectual property, Foza is a regular on that. When a music enthusiast asks around for a lawyer, best bet Foza will be one of the most referred.

With a hunger to help artists firmly secure earnings from their intellectual property, Foza has been part of a change the industry has witnessed in recent years.

A decade back, most producers were ignorant of the term “Split Sheets” but through being a part of The Sarz Academy, scores of producers have been tutored on how to better profit from their work.

7. Stephanie Okocha — Manager, Immensum Music

An A&R, Stephanie works closely with the beat maker Tempoe and is one of the executives helping to run the occasional music event, Basement Gig.

She also doubles as a label services manager for music business services company, Immensum Music.

Fashion / How KEPHI Clothing Is Leaving Its Mark On The Fashion Industry by mantosa(m): 2:59pm On Mar 04, 2021
Thanks to sustainably sourced materials such as recycled fabrics and organic cottons, clothing brand KEPHI produces both womenswear and menswear lines consisting of luxurious basics like tracksuits, t-shirts, hand-dyed denim, and even workwear. Each piece strikes the perfect balance of trendy and timeless, clearly articulating the message behind the brand.

Rather than the metaphorical revolving door of a typical consumer’s closet, KEPHI’s pieces are designed to last. This rejection of the model of fast fashion sets KEPHI apart from the rest, and ensures that consumers have a positive experience with the brand. The hope is that every wear brings with it the reminder that “we all have a role in our collective future”, empowering consumers to create meaning and drive positive action in their own life and the lives of others.

To that end, every garment is brandished with a meaningful phrase, whether on the inside or outside. The message of positivity is pervasive at every level of KEPHI’s business model and this physical representation solidifies the brand’s mission. The founders believe KEPHI is so much more than just a clothing brand; it’s an attitude and a lifestyle. A purchase is only the beginning.

Still, KEPHI is on a mission to do more than simply create sustainable clothing. The industry is notorious for not only a lack of respect for the environment, but also a lack of transparency and ethics. In opposition, KEPHI guarantees that responsible manufacturing is conducted, ensuring living wages and safe working conditions for the hands that make their clothing. They state, “We believe that what you wear has a direct influence on the way you feel and your-wellbeing, which profoundly impacts every aspect of your life.”

KEPHI founders believe that people can be empowered by everyday clothing choices to make a greater impact in their lives and the lives of those around them. In fact, that is their ultimate mission: cultivating positivity within the world. As the label prepares for an upcoming launch, they remain committed to this mission. This focus on positivity harkens the origin of the name itself, the Greek word ‘kefi’ which refers to joy, passion, and happiness. However, this is more than just an arbitrary goal for the company. They note, “We want our products to create a great aura of positivism that drives our consumer through the feeling of an overpowering emotion, the essence of Kephi.”

Celebrities / Dokta Frabz's Death: 7 Times The Beat Architect Amazed Us With His Beats by mantosa(m): 11:20am On Mar 01, 2021
On Saturday, news broke out Nigerian beatsmith, Dokta Frabz is no more. While details on how he died is still sketchy at this point, it’s sad the industry has lost one of its contributors.

Due to poor documentation at the time, it’s hard to know the extent of Dokta Frabz’s work though many alleged he was once a part of Mo’hits at some point. Dokta Frabz also produced a large chunk of Omawunmi and Naeto C’s debut albums within that period but it’s also hard to know which songs he produced off those records.

The ones he however got credited for, you could feel his production playing a major part in the song’s success. Tracks like Wizkid’s “Joy” were propelled by the simple production pattern Dokta Frabz preferred to use with his deftness at the Piano, his major strength.

Here are seven times Dokta Frabz amazed us with his beats.

1. Wizkid — Bombay feat. Phyno

It’s 2013. Wizkid is moving from the tropes of motivation that formed the bedrock of his debut, Superstar. He’s reveling in stardom, one where he gifts stellar verses and still as a young gun, he’s reinventing his sound signature.

On his sophomore, Ayo, Dokta Frabz was instrumental to working on that sound formula, fabricating three songs. One of those was, Bombay, an experimental yet tactical track fashioned by Wizkid to appeal to his Eastern Nigeria fans. Phyno is recruited, and on this flute-y driven beat created by Dokta Frabz, both Wizkid and Phyno obsess emphatically about the wonders of ladies’ bums.

2. Banky W — Lagos Party

In 2010, Banky W had the whole city gyrating to this record. Lagos Party was that shining dime on Banky W’s 2013 project, The W Experience. And it was Dokta Frabz laying the sonic foundation.

Yet again, his deftness at working those delightful melodies presents itself, this time juiced with simple percussion, thereby freeing Banky W to glide on effortlessly with his smooth, gentlemanly vocals.

The feel of Lagos Party makes it a versatile record—playable at carnival parties, club parties and owanbe parties.

3. Dagrin – Nla feat. Lala

Oh man, the first minute of this song is a total smash. Appearing on Dagrin’s evergreen album, CEO, I wonder why it’s overlooked as one of the gems on the album.

Dokta Frabz sutures a ‘80s soul sample with slow kick drums, giving potency to Dagrin’s freewheeling rap. His rap is varied, accentuated with his usual laughter addition. But it’s the beat that’s amazing.

The beat has a pulsing feature, leading you on, compelling you to listen further and catching up with Dagrin’s booty praise.

Can I use the word amazing for this beat?

4. Dagrin — Thank God feat. Omawunmi

Listening to this track again after some years hiatus, it made me remember two things—One, how there are more than three, four impactful tracks on the CEO album and how this particular track was the most played motivational song that year. You’ll play this song and you’ll want to cry. Yeah, that was the efficacy of this track.

Man, Dokta Frabz specially made this track. The affecting melancholic feel this song has isn’t noticed until Omawunmi elevates the sphere with her arresting vocals.

And when Dagrin rides in with his usual interjecting laughter, he delivers summed up chapters of his early life and struggles he’s encountered.

It’s all hoisted up on the subject of being relatable and resonating with the pains of the fellow man on the street. When he’s through with the first verse, it seems a huge load has been lifted off his troubled heart.

All these won’t have been possible without the presence of Dokta Frabz’s creation.

5. Durella – Enu O Se

I wonder if some people will remember the period between 2008-2009 when Durella had the “Zanga” on lock with a spree of tunes.

An exciting one from that bunch was Enu O Se. Fast tracked by Dokta Frabz, this was far from the regular melodious tracks he produced. The percussion is fast paced here but even in the difficulty mode this beat is presented in, Durella adjusts, showing us he’s the king of the Zanga.

For some unknown reasons, this song went viral. Wondering why? The chant-y chorus was enough reason for it to become a mainstay on the streets.

6. Wizkid — Joy

There aren’t many Wizkid tracks that have an evergreen feeling on you on first listen. Joy is one of those beautifully written songs in the vault of Wizkid records.

Starting off with a hoarse trumpet intro, Dokta Frabz’s input heralds a fierce, song-ready Wizkid. He’s expressive from the onset, telling a story of the joy his mother felt at his birth.

Joy is one of Dokta Frabz’s dynamic productions as when Wizkid dishes his second verse, Frabz is serving up konga drums to go along, replacing the trumpet as the main carrier.

7. Seyi Shay — Murda feat. Patoranking and Shaydee

The dotting melodies serves as the perfect foundation of Seyi Shay’s expressive lyrics and excited flow. Dokta Frabz’s technique here is minimal, only employing piano melodies and muffled percussion.

Simple as the production might be, it exalts Patoranking’s reggaeton style and Shaydee’s rhythmic flow.

Business / From Landscaping To Mentorship; How Tigran Gertz Navigated Toward Success by mantosa(m): 8:57am On Feb 27, 2021
Online coach and landscaping guru Tigran Gertz learned the value of hard work from a young age. As he struggled through his high school classes, he mowed lawns for extra cash. One day he was torn as to whether he had what it takes to get into college or what other options he could pursue, when a golden opportunity presented itself to him. “After 12-hour day dethatching lawns in 2007. After paying my friends $10 an hour cash, counted up the money and realized that day I profited $1000 in 1 day. Completely blown away and was shocked. That was the day I realized I won’t be going to college after I graduate high school. That was the day I began to have massive confidence in myself…”

This was a turning point to Gertz and from that day one he decided to give his all into his landscaping business. If he didn’t, he’d be giving into one of his greatest fears. “Obscurity. If people don't know me, they will never do business with me. I need the entire planet to know my name. Attention is the new currency.” But fear wasn’t the only motivator for Gertz. He was also striving to reach his version of success “Success means winning. If you're not first you’re last. No one remembers that person that almost won. Be #1. Worst thing that will happen is you fail. However, you can never fail if you don't give up”

Not only is Gertz going to keep going until he’s the “Mr. Beast of the construction industry.” but is also striving to help others along the way “Stop thinking about starting your business. I get Instagram Dm’s all the time. ‘Hey T I’m thinking about starting a landscaping business. Do you have any advice for me?’ My answer is always the same. STOP THINKING.”

Properties / The Construction Of An Empire; Meet The Millionaire Mogul Mark Z by mantosa(m): 10:48am On Feb 25, 2021
Mark Z Real Estate Experts is one of the highest producing real estate teams in the world and Mark Z is the founder. With over $1 billion dollars in sales Mark Z Real Estate Experts is an international name. This company, as well as Z Capital, a real estate private equity office focused on investing in real estate assets that lend themselves to wealth preservation and multi-generational wealth.

The founder of both of these companies, Mark Z, isn’t just knowledgeable about how to manage real estate but also how to manage the stresses that often hold us back. “Fear is a liar and it will kill your dreams if you’re not careful. But if you trick fear, and make the tough decisions anyway, you will win. Fear will paralyze you from greatness.”

Mark Z overcame fear years ago when he survived the same genetic condition that took the life of his own brother. One night he was at a restaurant with a few colleagues when he passed out and fell to the floor. They shook him awake and took him to the hospital immediately—and not a moment too soon. Inaction would have caused Mark Z his life. He was diagnosed with Brugada Syndrome, an irregular heartbeat that causes sudden death. It’s an unusual genetic disorder of the heart’s electrical system that strikes suddenly in mid-age. After that incident, Mark Z received an implanted cardioverter-defibrillator to prevent another heart attack. “I’m grateful to my friends for saving my life, and I treasure my time with family and friends, even more, every day.”

After that fateful day, Mark Z strove toward his idea of success. “Success to me is living the life I truly want…not just settling for a life that came my way. Success is the peace of mind resulting from knowing I gave my greatest effort at becoming the best I could be.”

Today Mark Z is the best that he could be; and he keeps getting better.

Business / How Jose Ardon Rose To Success In The Network Marketing Industry by mantosa(m): 10:11am On Feb 25, 2021
BE, a technology company, is changing the lives of thousands by providing a global digital platform for everyone, regardless of background, skill-set, and experience. As Executive Vice President, this is a mission that Jose Ardon can get behind. He says, “We know that there are always visionary people in the world; however, BE founders are more than committed to their vision. For me, it has been the best vision I have ever come across in my 15 years of experience doing businesses.”

With over 15 years of experience in the network marketing industry, Jose has successfully accomplished every goal he has set for himself. His journey began at the age of 11. Born into poverty, Jose questioned what fundamental differences existed between his own life and the lives of the rich. Deciding to find out for himself, he set out to move to the United States at the age of 17. Upon arriving, Jose quickly got to work, moving from job to job, and experiencing a variety of industries, from food services to construction and everything in between. That is, until 2004, when Jose was introduced to network marketing. He recalls, “I remember hearing a story from a motivational speaker about how his life was transformed and how he had become a millionaire through direct selling, having the freedom to be his own boss while earning residual income. That same time, I told myself I will become a millionaire, or I will die trying, but I will never give up.”

That day, Jose set a specific goal of earning $120,000 in the next year. As his income skyrocketed from $24,000 to $120,000 well before the year’s end, he asked himself, “If my goal of $120,000 was possible, why not $10 million?”

Jose challenged himself to earn $10 million by the time he turned 30. After depositing his first million at the age of 27, he completed the goal shortly before turning 30. Today, through his role at BE, Jose plans to continue growing and helping others in the process. “I know for a fact that my achievement is only the beginning compared to what we are going to achieve for BE’s 2022 vision on becoming the fastest company to pay 1 billion dollars as a commission,” he notes. “BE is determined to change the world; it is upright with the commitment and ethics required to make an impact in the world.”

Music/Radio / How To Listen To Nigerian Music: A Music Critic’s Guide To Enjoying The Sound by mantosa(m): 12:43pm On Feb 10, 2021
Every Friday, there are new music drops. From artists we’ve established a relationship with, from artists we’ve never clicked the play button on their songs. Either way, we all have different motives on why we consume music.

Whether for vibes or to feel good, or to help as a perfect accompaniment in fulfilling a task or activity. But there are also times the music reaches a complex where we don’t enjoy them so we help to spread the word that the song is “mid.”

Then months later, the mid song is a jam on the street. Oops.

How do you listen to a track and get the best out of it, without misjudging? How do you avoid going on Twitter to call Wizkid’s Joro, “Trash” and a year later, it’s still buzzing?

How can you improve your listening experience?

1. Listen, following the lyrics

Majority of us listen to new songs, perhaps doing an activity on the side, or just being too keen on the song, wanting to know why it’s getting hyped on Twitter. You don’t follow the lyrics, your perception is just about the beat or the vibes the overall track is giving.

In an era where artists are embedding their stories and experiences through the lyrics, perusing through those lines of words affords you the chance of making a meaning of the song, placing yourself in the world of the artist.

This might sound stressful, especially when you have to head over to Genius. But there’s a reason why it’s lyrics laid on beats. You might get the lyrics while listening but following it adeptly is much better.

2. Take it for a ride, take it for a stroll.

This writer has a method for conquering creative block. There’s a stream nearby my house, like a mini forest and so most times, I load up a few songs, plug in my earpiece and go for a quiet stroll in the evening. It’s surreal and sometimes atmospheric. Especially if it’s a slow, RnB/soul album I’m listening to where the artist is descriptive about their experiences.

Yours could be on a long distance journey, sitting near the window, alone with your thoughts with the music aiding your introspection. You get to feel it. The pain in the artist’s voice, the anguish, the happiness or the emotions they’re dispersing through those lyrics. Cueing up songs like Fireboy’s “God only knows,” or Olamide’s “Woyo” in this situation will make you appreciate these songs even better.

3. Blast it through speakers

Okay, there are occasions when your earpiece or listening devices are futile sometimes. To get the full experience of songs like “Wizkid’s Jaiye Jaiye” or Wande Coal’s “The Kick”, you need those woofers.

Those woofers blaring out the sound in their true form. Those aforementioned tracks are club-hitters, regulars on decks of DJs in the club or at block parties. That’s the scenery, that’s the natural atmosphere. Banging sounds.

You’d enjoy some songs even better with speakers blasting them, eliciting high energy dance movements.

4. On your bed, at night

The night is quiet, no fowl crowing, no kids crying, no mum calling. No one disrupting your listening experience. It’s you alone, and the little noises creeping out of the tiny holes of your hearing device. Perhaps you’re also in the middle of a chat. But you’re alone and the pressure of life has simmered down, all gone with the day and you’re climaxing in your feels.

So you cue up Davido’s “Heaven” and when it gets to the part where “feel so real” is repeated, you bop your head and say and ask “this song is good, how did I sleep on this.”

Other times, RnB tracks make more sense at night, especially if you’ve just been through a heartbreak.

5. With friends

You see how differently the music feels or the vibes it gives when you’re amongst friends. Olamide’s “Infinity” is playing out of the JBL speaker and your friends are reveling in it. You see how different coarse voices are chorusing together, echoing the lyrics or the dance vibes they’re showing off. Hands are raised, legs shaking off moves and heads bopping and you wonder if it’s the same track you listened to.

Listening with friends is a different vibe on its own. I’ve seen people get emotional or sink into reflection mode when listening to music. I’ve discovered some great new music during the times I hang out with my people. Those moments feel magical sometimes, can’t lie.

Business / 7 Game-changing Strategies Business Owners Can Adopt From Madam C.J Walker’s Sto by mantosa(m): 2:49pm On Feb 06, 2021
Watching the Netflix series of Self Made, a story about the life of Madam C.J Walker opened me to the realm of tactics most entrepreneurs are oblivious to.

For starters, Self Made is an expose into America’s first self made female millionaire, Madam C.J Walker who made a fortune selling hair growing products for black women in the early 1900s. The Netflix series, Self Made thus narrows into what happened in her life and how she emerged from working as a laundry woman to discovering a path that would make her self-sufficient.

Her story is inspiring and there are a few tactics you as an entrepreneur or a brand strategist can adapt from that series into swelling your company’s revenue.

1. Appeal To Customer’s Emotions and Internal Frustrations

As an entrepreneur, you’re either selling a product or service where what you do daily is post the product and maybe enumerate on its features.

Hey, you’re missing out.

There’s a need your product or service is meeting. How about you touching on the problems your customers face? Identifying your customers’ problems deepens their interest in the product or service you’re selling.

In Self Made, due to exhaustion and hard work, black women rarely had time to take care of their hair thus making them encounter dandruff, baldness and other scalp ailments.

When selling her product, Madam C-J Walker tapped into those problems, and the internal frustrations that came with it. Battling with baldness meant these women had a dip in self confidence and felt sad about their fading beauty.

What external problems and internal frustrations are your customers battling with? How can your product and service be the fix to those problems? Once you know this, integrate it into your copies, captions and taglines.

The more you talk about the problems your customers experience, the more interest they will have in your brand.

2. Introduce Storytelling

What’s the story behind your product? That’s the strength behind Madam C.J Walker’s marketing. The two times she sold in the open market space, at first as she was calling out her product and its benefits, no one was interested.

Then she began telling a story to a black woman about what spurred her into making hair growing creams.

And just like how we always loved to hear stories when we were little, her opening up about the early years of her hair product led a bunch of women to her stand and then by the time she finished her story, the women were enthralled and wanted their hair to be like Madam Walker’s. The story hooked them into purchasing her product.

Your product has a story behind it, tell it.

3. Expand

You ever get to a stage in your business journey and it feels like you’re stagnant and you’re due for growth or addition of maybe a product or service?

Madam C.J Walker felt that way but her expansion was due to her leveraging on a piece of information. With more black people thronging to Indianapolis, she sensed a need to leave St Louis, her hometown and reach out to an empty market space with no competition.

After a few months of settling there aided with aggressive marketing, her hair salon would soon become the go-to place for black women. Might not have happened if she was still at St Louis.

What new addition or idea can spike up more returns for your company? Try it out, see if it’ll work.

4. Employ people

It can’t remain a one-man business for long. As time goes on, and with expansion in the works, you would have to employ people to handle some specialties for you.

Perhaps you once used to manage social media coupled with the day-to-day running of your business, but now with customers booming, you could have someone do that for you, taking a weight off you.

Maybe you were involved in production, and now with the brand expanding, brimming with more customers, you need more hands to assist in producing more items.

Similar to how Madam C.J Walker recruited more hands to help in production of more of her hair growing creams.

5. Opportunities will come, use them.

When Madam C.J walker lost her first salon in Indianapolis due to a fire outbreak, she envisioned a new place with a lot of space, big enough for her wild ideas.

But she needed investors to put money into her business so she could actualize these ideas. She needed social proof, in the form of a popular businessman endorsing her. That opportunity would come but she had to work her way around it by going on stage uninvited, pitching her business to hundreds who sat in the National League of Businessmen convention.

When opportunity comes for you either to talk about your business to people, or pitch an idea to a person of influence, would you take it or fret and eventually back down?

6. Keep brand secrets to yourself

Many successful brands have an unknown tactic going for them, helping to gain an edge over their competition. And it isn’t anything new. You start a business today and a week later, someone also is competing with you. Or you incorporate an innovative approach today and someone is copying it.

Weeks after moving to Indianapolis, she had a competitor named Addie, who feeling the buzz of Madam C.J Walker’s hair products, started to sell hers too. Thing is her competitor, Addie barely had customers. She had no stories and she was just known as C.J Walker’s competitor.

All she did was study Madam C.J’s Walker approach and try to replicate it. Addie started worshiping at Walker’s church, attending the same business meetings and went as far as almost stealing her secret product formula, which was Madam C.J Walker’s secret. The efficacy of her product, helping to grow the hair of black women.

There’s something working for you, giving you an edge over your competition. It’s a secret to you, don’t give it away or you will be replaced in the scheme of things.

7. Challenges will arise, don’t fold or panic

From the onset, Madam C.J Walker faced challenges. Getting customers. To buy what she was selling, challenges of settling far away from home and also personal issues. It got to a boiling point where she was having repeated family problems as far as her husband cheating on her.

Challenges are norms in the business world. What matters is your approach to sweeping them away.

For C.J walker, every challenge led to her ascending to the next level. When her husband cheated on her, she went through that period to clinch a deal with a store. Or when her house was burnt, it made her secure a new space.

It’s not the end of the world. Whatever challenge you’re in right now, see it as an opportunity for growth.

Music/Radio / Buju: Did Singer Make The Right Move By Signing To Burna Boy’s Spaceship Records by mantosa(m): 10:18am On Jan 20, 2021
Eighteen months ago, burgeoning Afro-fusion artist, Buju was about to release his second track of the year, Spiritual. Pressured by friends, they felt the record would do better with a Zlatan verse. Still a rising artist in need of access to the right channels, “How would I get a Zlatan verse,” Buju remembers, telling OAP Sheye Banks during a radio interview. He would eventually get it, albeit through a different means.

He proceeded to put out a snippet of the song with the caption: “I really need a verse from Zlatan.” Friends, fans and most twitter users who randomly came across that tweet helped heap pressure on Zlatan, mentioning his username in the comments box. A month later, Zlatan would cede, hopping on the song and also funding the costs for the video.

That song would do wonders for Buju. With his freestyles, he captured the attention of music listeners on Twitter. With L’enu, his last release of 2019, he would however capture the attention of Burna Boy. A remix sufficed, followed with an invitation to Spaceship Records.

Seven months after signing to the same platform as his role model, it appears the singer would be better off as being independent. First, Buju’s output for 2020 was way less than the year before: one new single which came in at the last month of the year, and also, the remix to 2019’s L’enu which dropped in May. Between May and December, Buju was missing in the music space.

There’s however an explanation. Obviously Buju had records to ship out, but with Burna Boy dropping the epoch-making project, Twice As Tall, all hands had to be on deck. It meant Buju’s singles or a project (who knows) had to be pushed back. But that was August.

In an industry, where rising artists could be quickly forgotten when they’re passive in releasing music and with the music populace giving preference to artists who are consistently dishing out well tailored releases, Buju’s 2019 momentum dipped.

That could perhaps be the explanation for the low attention turned towards “So Lovely,” his latest sonic offering. Impressive single, less fueled with promotion. In a month, the single has less than a million streams (332k streams) on Audiomack, a freemium music streaming platform. And in four days, the video has just 15k YouTube views as at the time of writing.

The problem is not Buju. Now that he’s under a record label, one expects things to level up for him better than he was while being independent. No one knows the specifics of the deal Buju signed with Spaceship Records, yet there’s a feeling Buju put pen to paper to fulfill his goals.

Talking to Native Mag earlier in 2020, he revealed how he wanted the year to turn out. More streams, more international awareness. “The word for 2020 is mainstream. My music needs to be heard on a global level,” he said in that interview. With a Burna Boy co-sign and anchored on the same record label, this should however happen easily.

Fans and social media hopefuls who were convinced of the singer’s enthralling talent would hope he re-enacts his blazing 2019 run. To do that, his record deal with Spaceship Records will be instrumental to achieving that momentous success.

“I don’t believe in competition,” David Dodge says of his experience in the real estate industry. “I look at competitors as strategic partners that I can do deals with, buy deals from, sell deals to, or network with to learn the newest trends and or best practices.” With these connections, David hopes to get his message out to any aspiring entrepreneurs who are considering entering the real estate industry. Having gotten his start from the young age of 20 while attending the University of Missouri-Columbia, David had to learn many lessons the hard way, a fate he hopes to save others from by teaching them a better way. He says, “I was over 100 doors and then I had to sell off about half of them to buy out a partner and pay off a ton of bad debt that we had accumulated. But I’ll get back over 100 in a couple of years again, no problem. I know what not to do this time around.”

Since the start of his career, David and his team have wholesaled over 500 houses. Leveraging his industry expertise, David has co-authored three books and even launched a podcast, “Discount Property Investor”, where he teaches people all the ins and outs of wholesaling real estate, along with tips and tricks for marketing, landlording, and rehabbing properties. “I was inspired to get into this industry for a few reasons,” he explains. “I wanted passive income and tax advantages, but I also wanted to be my own boss. I wanted to have the freedom to travel and do what I wanted to do on my own timeframe!”

Today, David has done exactly that. With over 17 years of experience, now he is passionate about helping other entrepreneurs achieve success in the industry that provided his own. “Success is just a mindset,” he says. He and his partner Mike have created a free course on wholesaling real estate where he aspires to help others learn how simple the wholesaling business truly is.

Music/Radio / What Went Wrong With Wizkid’s Ginger Video? Here’s A Logical Answer by mantosa(m): 9:20am On Jan 09, 2021

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSy2lBZ1QrA

The second Friday of the year followed the template of the first: No new music. A boring day lacking novelty lied ahead. But there was a contrast, Wizkid had picked January 8th as the date for the release of the visuals to Ginger, one of the smash hits from his epoch-making album, Made In Lagos.

As anticipation swelled for the release, people created fantasies on how the video might turn out. With Wizkid giving an insight into the template for his music video in an interview with Beat FM London, expectations on Friday were thus high. Hours preceding the release, Wizkid FC were already doing their thing. Hashtag GingerVideoPremiere nestled at the top of Nigerian Twitter Trends.

Then at 3pm, the video dropped. Did it satisfy expectations?

Maybe. But boring was the word said by most people after watching. No exciting plot. Engaging storyline missing. Nothing surprising about the video. It simply slotted into “Nigerian music videos with vibes.” This category is created for unmemorable music videos; music enthusiasts watch once and never go back to. In one word: forgettable.

Of course, the visuals for Smile, one of the singles off Made In Lagos can’t be found in this category. It’s easily the best video Nigerian music industry saw last year. Why’s Ginger different?

For a long time, songs have always tried to tell some sort of story in their lyrics even if the message or story isn’t the greatest ever. Music videos therefore serve as interpretation to the songs, helping the listeners make meaning of the lyrics.

Fact, people have argued Ginger itself doesn’t have a storyline compared to Smile in terms of lyrical content and thus, this might be the befitting video Ginger could have gotten. But you wonder why Wizkid was lyrically serenading an unknown love interest in the first verse: “Make I touch up on it/Make I rub, make I love, make I rub, make I touch up on it.” This exact serenade is missing in that video. Plus the eventual disconnect of the lyrics and music video is evident with the lead dancer being left alone to do some seductive body whining.
