Still battling with hair issues? |

@destinygrl: you really have to experiment to see what your hair loves. Your hair might be low porosity. Have you tried using products on dry hair? Try applying deep conditioner to a dry haiR and see how your hair takes it. @kelechi & Marie, you are welcome on board. |
Yes @tchidi. |
How do we moisturize our natural hair and retain the moisture for a well hydrated, moist, supple and glowing hair? Water is the universal moisturizer. But water alone can't keep the hair moisturized for a long time because water is always on the move and so the hair moisture levels are always in a state of Flux. Water has the tendency to rapidly enter and exit hair's cuticle and cortex. So for effective moisturizing of hair, we need water, humectant, emollients and occlusive agents. 1.To simplify this, a simple hair regime will be: spritz hair with just water( or water + a humectant(eg glycerin). 2.Then use a water based cream or leave in conditioner that has emollients. 3. And lock in the moisture from escaping with an occlusive agent eg Oil or butter. This will keep your hair moisturized for long |

I would love to hear your specific challenges s I can tackle them one by one. |
Please don't give up ladies @ extyme, tchidi and mystical. You are yet to discover ways to take care of your hair type. You know our black hair needs special care. Look into your hair regime. Do you moisturize enough? Our hair can dry out a lot because of it's kinky texture. Just like grass, when we water it, it revives and bounces back. How do you detangle your hair? When do you comb your hair? When wet or when dry? Combing dry hair cuts hair. Also learn to comb from ends to root. Have. You tried finger detangling before combing? Spritz hair with water, use leave in conditioner to soften hair, gently detangle with fingers. You can follow up with comb if you wish. Most times I just detangle my girl's hair with fingers and she is good to go. We can go a month without combing. |
Hello my lovely beauties, am so sorry for the long silence. I have been very busy but am back now. Tutorials continues... |
Please who is following before I continue? And any questions? |
That is why we have product like SHAMPOO to help cleanse the scalp. It helps cleanse product build up. The problem now lies in choosing the best shampoo for our hair. Shampoo with sulfates cleanses well but it over cleanses and leaves the hair crystal clear and in the product strip off our much needed natural hair oil. That is why moisturizing shampoo is ideal for natural hair care. A good formulated one gently cleanses well but doesn't strip the hair off it's natural oil. |
Our scalp resembles our skin and also produces oil(sebum) which is our hair natural oil. The sebum conditions the skin(scalp) and acts as barrier to prevent moisture loss. Scalp dryness is one of the main problem we have with our black hair. That's why issues like itchiness and dandruff exists. Products with silicones, petroleum jelly and mineral oils most times clogs our pores and doesn't allow the pores to breathe. Such environment doesn't support hair growth and healthy hair |
@ Ayayo, sure there are great tips for people transitioning from relaxed to natural hair. Just stay tuned! To understand our hair, we have to understand how or where our hair grows from. The scalp is the birth place of our hair and if we take care of it well, we provide a nice environment for the follicle to produce healthy and quality hair strands. Our scalp needs to be clean and positively stimulated to breed longer, healthier and stronger hair. |
For us to take care of our natural hair, we need to understand our hair. We can't efficiently take care of what we don't really understand. We have to understand the hair we are blessed with as African, as blacks. That's our natural black hair. |

Where are you? What colour shade are you using? If you are using say Mary Kay foundation colour 600 and it's lighter than your true shade, then go for 607. If darker, go for 507. |
@ Mzcorle: no you can't use it for your face. It will be lighter than your skin shade. @mhizkel: I said basic. Your foundation can be oil mattifier. Kajal is okay too. @MzPorsche: I advise you test for your skin shade before buying make up produc. |
