Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Canalsat In South Africa by Marc33: 9:49pm On Sep 24, 2013
Hello matsha, since you are in Pretoria, definitely you have to try Eutelsat 16 with your 90cm dish, making sure to finetune your (high quality) lnb skew as it can make a big difference for the reception. Good luck.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Canalsat In South Africa by Marc33: 7:54pm On Sep 24, 2013
Hello mathsa, I am afraid you may not get canalsat afrique or even canalsat reunion from your current location unless you are prepared to use a big dish as the footprints of canalsat afrique on SES 4 (22W) and canalsat reunion on Eutelsat 16 (16E) do not cover your area. Furthermore unless I am wrong, canalsat afrique smart card is (was) not interchangeable with canalsat reunion smart card. You may still try though things are evolving so rapidly. Regards.

P.S. It seems that DSTV offers access to canalsat programmes in other parts of Africa, you may wish to check if the same kind of access is available in South Africa.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Installing A Motorised Satellite Dish System by Marc33: 10:09am On Jan 24, 2013
Lunsat, I see your point but do not forget that the disecq switch role is precisely to route only the specific commands geared to a particular port. It means that if you connect the H-H motor to for instance port 1 and configure the receiver/decoder accordingly, only port one will channel the instructions to drive the H-H motor. Please note that on the contrary the motor for the C dish should not repeat should not be connected to the disecq switch since it is independently or separately powered through the positioner.
I hope my above explanation is clear enough.
Cheers

Lunsat: @GeorgeD, Yes I want both dishes to move at the same time (pointing at the same sat)with one dish dedicated to c band and the other dedicated to KU band. I want to avoid cluttering several lnbs on one dish. I thought dishes moving at the same time can not be avoided as both the HH motor and the positioner are controlled by the same disecq commands from the reciever.

@ Mark33, I thought the HH motor should come before the disecq precisely because it uses power from the decoder. I thought this way I would prevent too much current passing through the disecq as these get burnt easily.

Lunsat, your proposed setup could work but with the following modification: the H-H motor should be connected to one of the diseq LNB ports as the KU dish position is normally controlled by the receiver itself without the need of a separate positioner. Some years ago I have had a comparable setup when using both a big dish for C band and a small one for KU band.
Cheers

Lunsat: People, I have been toying with the idea of having separate KU and C band dishes controlled by one reciever. See attached diagram. Has anyone tried this? Any possible reasons why it might not work? Uups, I forgot to label the disecq switch.

D.lee

Just to confirm AB7 NWA beam as per Flysat (TP 11565/V/27499) is receivable here in Dakar. JSC, JSC English, JSC Sport among others are currently available.
Regards and Happy New Year all.

Hello Gadotor,

It seems that the West Africa beam is no longer broadcasting. I was able a few days ago to get it (frequency 11163/V/27499 -see attached pic). The beam should normally get back to life soon.
Regards

To complete above information for all interested, I attach herewith pictures of the box of the diseqC motor I am using. The very same motor seems to be available under different brand names. Thanks

@George
The diseqC 1.2 HH motor is not difficult to install when following properly all the steps and requirements. The main point is first to make sure to get an HH motor that can handle your location latitude. Most of the HH motors available in some places were not really designed for a good part of our region (specifically countries below 10° latitude N or S). Residing in Dakar (14° latitude) I luckily do not have that problem. As you know it, good pole (i.e exactly vertical) alignment is critical as well as precise elevation of the motor and declination angle as required by your location and usually indicated in the supplied installation manual. I got my motor from France through my brother installed there. I have noted that there is in this forum an interesting, documented (and promising) thread launched by microgiant on this motorization issue. Let us use it as much as possible to share our experiences, exchange tricks and tips. Cheers

Good day all. Joining your interesting forum from Dakar 5enegal. Please note that here with a 100cm dish we are currently able to get from 7W position more than 600 channels with great quality pictures. The arabic conversant people are the ones really enjoying this large array of FTA channels. But some movie and/or series entertainment channels such as FOX, FOX movies, MTV are also available. CNN, Bloomberg, Asia Business and a lot of sport channels are accessible as well. See attached pictures. Thanks
