I don't know anyone who thinks Coke is good for you, but still, this is pretty eye-opening. After reading this, you will definitely think twice before cracking open another can. (Especially after similarities with heroin show up at the 45-minute mark.) 1. In the first 10 minutes: 10 teaspoons of sugar hit your system. (100% of your recommended daily intake.) You don’t immediately vomit from the overwhelming sweetness because phosphoric acid cuts the flavor allowing you to keep it down. 2. 20 minutes: Your blood sugar spikes, causing an insulin burst. Your liver responds to this by turning any sugar it can get its hands on into fat. (There’s plenty of that at this particular moment) 3. 40 minutes: Caffeine absorption is complete. Your pupils dilate, your blood pressure rises, as a response your livers dumps more sugar into your bloodstream. The adenosine receptors in your brain are now blocked preventing drowsiness. 4. 45 minutes: Your body ups your dopamine production stimulating the pleasure centers of your brain. This is physically the same way heroin works, by the way. 5. >60 minutes: The phosphoric acid binds calcium, magnesium and zinc in your lower intestine, providing a further boost in metabolism. This is compounded by high doses of sugar and artificial sweeteners also increasing the urinary excretion of calcium. 6. >60 Minutes: The caffeine’s diuretic properties come into play. (It makes you have to pee.) It is now assured that you’ll evacuate the bonded calcium, magnesium and zinc that was headed to your bones as well as sodium, electrolyte and water. 7. >60 minutes: As the rave inside of you dies down you’ll start to have a sugar crash. You may become irritable and/or sluggish. You’ve also now, literally, pissed away all the water that was in the Coke. But not before infusing it with valuable nutrients your body could have used for things like even having the ability to hydrate your system or build strong bones and teeth. President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday vowed to bring to justice any corrupt Nigerian, whether the offender is a member of his party, All Progressives Congress, or highly placed. The president said this in an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour. Mr. Buhari said there would be no sacred cows in the fight against corruption, saying APC members who amassed wealth illegally, would not be spared. “It is not the issue of party members. If you have stolen, no party member can escape justice,” the president said. He dismissed claims that he has been too slow in his style of governance, saying he believed it was too early for anyone to judge his performance in office. He said Nigerians should hold him to his campaign promises three years from now. The president said his government was open to negotiating with Boko Haram if the credibility of those claiming to be their representatives can be affirmed. He said one of the key priorities of his government is to secure the release Chibok School girls, abducted by Boko Haram militants in 2014, saying anything that would make that happen, would be welcomed. “If we are convinced we can have the girls back, why not? We can negotiate. Our goal is to have the girls back. We will ask them (Boko Haram) what they want, and we can free the girls; return them to their school; unite them with their parents and rehabilitate them, so, they can live a normal life,” the president said. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/187062-no-corrupt-apc-member-will-escape-justice-buhari.html?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter |
President Muhammadu Buhari said on Wednesday that his government was examining pieces of evidences that would lead to the arrest and prosecution of some former ministers and other government officials for stealing Nigeria’s crude oil. Mr. Buhari said this at the Nigerian Embassy in Washington while answering questions at a session with Nigerians in the Diaspora. He said it will take at least 18 months to revive the economy. He lamented that some of the affected officials were involved in illegal sale and diversion of crude oil monies belonging to the Federal Government to multiple private accounts abroad. “We are now looking for evidences of shipping some of our crude, their destinations and where and which accounts they were paid and in which country. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/187070-well-arrest-prosecute-some-former-ministers-for-oil-theft-buhari.html |

Today’s planned unveiling of Sunday Oliseh as new coach of the Super Eagles looks dicey, as the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) could not confirm the event yesterday. The Federation was as at press time unable to get the needed clearance from the National Sports Commission (NSC) to go ahead with the ceremony. The NSC had insisted that the employment of both Oliseh and his assistant, Belgium’s Francoise Loscuito, must follow the procedure of the Civil Service Appropriation Act. Oliseh met with the NFF Technical Committee on his arrival from Belgium yesterday to deliberate on certain formalities ahead of his unveiling in Abuja. http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/2015/07/olisehs-planned-unveiling-may-wait-as-nff-writes-bureau-of-public-procurement/

Fair-skinned actress, Edwin Princess, is a fast-rising actress in Nollywood. She was born in Anambra State but lived in Austria until she relocated to Nigeria to pursue her acting career. Edwin Princess has starred in movies like ‘The Birds’, ‘Ibu’s Wedding’ amongst others. She was recently on a movie location in Festac Town, where she starred alongside Eze Nwora George, Ginika Maureen and others in her latest movie. In this exclusive interview, she talks about her life, career and more. When did you start acting? I ventured into Nollywood in 2013. What role did you play in the movie you’re currently working on? I played the role of a wife, a woman who is good but is having a bad experience from her in-laws and other people. I was able to have babies for my husband but sadly they kept dying one way or the other. It was a very challenging role for me. How many movies have you featured in so far? I’ve done ‘Sacrifice for Marriage’, ‘Ibu’s Wedding’ with Mr Ibu, Global Updates ’89 Days In Bondage’, Sparco which is on air and Ulo Mbasa, a soap on DSTV. So far, we’ve been working, we can’t relent on our efforts and I expect more to follow. What has been your most challenging role in a movie? My most challenging role was actually in a movie I did with Global Update. It was really challenging because they had to take me somewhere in Badagry and I had to jump from one hill to the other. It was challenging because I’m not an athletic person. I saw myself jumping up and down from one tree to another, running in the bush even on a wet day. It was challenging for me. My second challenging role is Ulo Mbasa, the Igbo soap on air now, where I cheated on my husband. Have you ever played a sexy role in a movie? I have, I did it with Ezenwora George in a movie called ‘The Birds’. I think that was my first sexy role in a movie, because I wasn’t expecting him to kiss me and then he just grabbed me and kissed me. Can you go nude in a movie? I can actually do anything as long as it adds meaning to the story. When you talk about nude, there has to be a connection. You don’t just go nude because you want to pull off your clothes. It means you have to be interpreting a role, a serious minded role that can wow viewers. I can go extra miles to perfect my job and my career but not just go nude because I need to go nude. It has to really go along with the story and be meaningful. What more should people expect from Edwin Princess? They should expect good works and appreciate what I’m offering, because I’ve just started to learn and I hope to give them my best in the nearest future. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/06/i-can-go-nude-if-it-enhances-the-story-edwin-princess/

Muhammadu Buhari vowed on Tuesday to recover billions of dollars allegedly stolen by officials and restore financial "sanity", accusing previous governments in Africa's biggest economy of throwing the rulebooks "to the dogs". Muhammadu Buhari's strong words came after a meeting with the governors of Nigeria's states, in which they said they were 658 billion naira ($3.3 billion) in debt and needed federal government support to offset a funding crisis. Zamfara state governor Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar said the governors had suggested three ways out: the government could refund money spent on federal projects such as roads, banks could extend existing loans to up to 20 years, or the government could share out oil revenues usually saved in the so-called Excess Crude Account (ECA). The president, who took office last month after defeating Goodluck Jonathan in Nigeria's first transfer of power through the ballot box, vowed to recover billions allegedly stolen by public officials. "There are financial and administrative instructions in every government parastatal and agency. But all these were thrown to the dogs," Buhari said in a statement after meeting the governors in the capital Abuja. "The next three months may be hard but billions of dollars can be recovered, and we will do our best," he said. "We will restore sanity to the system." Running on empty Several states borrowed in the domestic bond market and from banks to fund infrastructure projects. But the price of crude, which represents 80 percent of Nigeria's revenue, has since plunged, leaving the government unable to pay bills or salaries. The naira currency has fallen sharply despite the central bank spending billions of dollars to try and prop it up. Gross revenues distributable to the three tiers of government federal, state and local hit a five-year low in April due to frequent shutdowns of oil and export terminal pipelines and depressed crude prices. Government revenues distributed for May rose to 409.3 billion naira, up 5.4 percent from the previous month, but the Finance Ministry said oil pipeline shutdowns continued to hamper earnings. Details of Nigeria's economic and financial position would be published within four weeks, Buhari said. He said the government would look into whether ECA funds could be used to cover unpaid salaries after saying on Monday that treasury coffers were "virtually empty". The ECA had $2.078 billion as of June 23, the Finance Ministry said. Standard Chartered's head of Africa research, Razia Khan, said that the level of state debt was "especially problematic". "While an early release of the ECA may provide a partial solution, it is not yet known how much Nigeria will have managed to accumulate in its ECA in recent months. http://m.news24.com/Nigeria/National/News/Buhari-vows-to-restore-Nigerias-financial-sanity-20150623 |
