A man in Jos has divorced his wife of 12 years over allegations that she slept with a judge in order to free him from jail. A relation of the woman who spoke to YeyeNews.com under condition of anonymity accused the man of being ungrateful after all the sacrifices his sister had made to get him out of jail. “My sister was by his side throughout his ordeal. He could have been sentenced to at least 20 years for defrauding a traditional ruler if not for his wife that did everything to get him out. Now the ingrate is accusing her of sleeping with the judge to secure his release. I don’t understand what she sees in this man”.


The husband has however countered the claims of his brother in law. He alleged that his wife agreed to sleeping with the judge when he confronted her. “She didn’t deny seeing that judge. They met in an hotel close to UniJos and I have my facts. Nobody should tell me she did it to secure my release. I never asked her to do such a thing. Besides, I am innocent of the accusations against me and the police couldn’t produce a single witness to support their charges. So it was just a matter of time I would have been freed”, he recounted.

The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu (MNK) may be released soon following negotiations with the government being brokered by some elders of the southeast, a source familiar with the happenings told YeyeNews.com. The source reiterated that the negotiations centered on MNK renouncing his demand for secession of the southeast and for him to join a political party to champion the struggle for regional autonomy within the federation.



“Some of the conditions is that he should join a political party. He will also not travel out of the country for the next two years. Though some people in the government side are lobbying that the condition should stipulate he joins the APC, hoping that the move will improve the party’s fortune in the southeast. An online petition calling for the change of the spelling of ‘lie’ to ‘lai’ is gathering traction. The petition seeks to recognize the embodiment of falsehood and distortion that has become the hallmark of Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture whose first name is ‘Lai’, the petitioners argued.

Special Assistant to the Nigerian president Alhaji Garba Shehu has criticized Forbes Magazine for its choice of Ghanaian president Nana Akufo-Addo for the African of the Year 2021 Award. The magazine announced the choice of Mr. Akufo-Addo for the award in its latest edition noting that the Ghanaian president has “repositioned the country in the global marketplace as one reliant on its own resources and strength… and for consistently being one of the world’s fastest growing economies”.





But Mr Garba Shehu while reacting to the award by Forbes questioned the rationale behind the choice of President Nana Akufo-Addo for the award. “Who is Akufo-Addo to win such award where there is President Buhari? Ghana that has a GDP the size of Lagos cannot compare to Nigeria that President Buhari has taken from a nearly failed state to become the largest economy in Africa. It is clear Forbes was misled and we know those responsible”. He however declined to mention names of those responsible for misleading Forbes.

The Norwegian Prime Minister has begged President Buhari to lift the ban on the importation of okporoko (stockfish) as it is seriously affecting the economy of the country. YeyeNews.com gathered that Nigeria is the largest importer of Norwegian okporoko which is an important source of protein in many Nigerian homes. But the government of President Buhari has since placed the stockfish on the list of items blacklisted from accessing forex for importation.



The Norwegian PM pleaded with President Buhari to remove stockfish from the list during a phone conversation on Tuesday, a source in the presidential Villa disclosed to YeyeNews reporter. A lecturer in the University of Uyo has been suspended by the school’s management, after a mental health assessment showed that he was suffering from a mental disorder.

The lecturer whose name has been withheld for security reasons was compelled by the school’s management to have a mental health assessment, after a series of complaints by the students in the department.



Speaking with YeyeNews.com reporters, one of the students in the department spoke about the lecturer’s attitude: “He always bragged about his educational achievements in class and constantly reminded us that the best grade we could ever get in his course was a “C”, because he believes “A” is for God and “B” is for him. The Kogi State government is considering paying the salaries of civil servants in the State with cryptocurrency from January 2022. A source in the Ministry of Finance told YeyeNews.com that the governor gave the directive to the Commissioner of Finance during the State Economic Council meeting.


“The governor was concerned about the effect that the daily erosion in the value of the naira is having on the purchasing power of the civil servants”, the source said. “The governor said he is determined to save Kogites from the continuous plunge in the value of the naira. The government of Lagos State paid the Lagos State Police Command twenty thousand naira for every arrest made at the Lekki tollgate during the #endsars memorial protest. The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has said that the high rate of inflation is because the disposable income in the hands of Nigerians has increased significantly since Buhari became president. The NBS made the claim in their monthly inflation report for October.



“The disposable income of Nigerians have steadily increased in the past six years as a result of the massive employment created by the government. Nigerians now have so much money in their pockets and the amount of goods in the market has not increased commensurately. Too much money chasing after fewer goods is what is driving the prices up”, they wrote in the report.

Just few days after an undergraduate student of the University of Uyo publicly condemned Akwa Ibom Children Prayer Network (AKCPRAN) Facebook as an example of “religious lunacy”, Executive Chairman of the Ethical and Attitudinal Reorientation Commission (EARCOM), Dr Dorothy Thompson has defended the project and rubbished the student’s words.

EARCOM on Friday, October 15, launched the Akwa Ibom Children Prayer Network, AKC-PRAN, with the theme, “The Necessity of Living in the Fear of God” in Uyo, and the chairman predicted that this project would ignite a revival as the children gathered to pray. In her address, she quoted Psalms 8:2: “Out of the mouth of babies and infants, God has ordained strength,” and said that EARCOM initiated the program in line with the call of the wife of the President of First Ladies across the states to hold prayers for the nation. However, a student of University of Uyo, who is also a popular Facebook influencer went to Facebook and publicly condemned the project as useless and that the government should be building schools for children instead of gathering them to pray.

A study published in the Journal of Psychology in the University of Jos has found that the reason that Nigerians are the happiest people in the world is because of the high rate of consumption of pornographic contents in the country. The lead author of the study disclosed that on average 120 million Nigerians visit pornographic websites daily.



“Those figures are the highest in the world. Even India with over a billion population does not generate such huge traffic”, the leader author Prof. Zacheaus Cheng told YeyeNews.com. According to the abstract of the paper, the “study maps the traffic from Nigeria into three major pornographic websites through their IP addresses”. The researchers further traced these addresses to particular devices at specific locations. “It was a very challenging work but the findings are very interesting”, the lead author declared.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has told ex-Biafran soldiers to reject the offer of the Nigerian government to pay them gratuities. This admonition was contained in a statement signed by the spokesman of the proscribed group. “Remember you are Biafrans. Don’t betray the memories of the three million of your compatriots that died. Reject any payment from this government”, the statement partly reads.

A lawyer in Benin, Mr. Eghosa Obaro, has reported his client to the police after the client tricked him with a fake bank notification message. The lawyer told YeyeNews.com reporter that he secured bail for his client (name withheld) who is a suspected fraudster, when he was arraigned before a Magistrate Court after spending close to one month in police custody.
