A hamstring injury to Johan Djourou against Porto emerged as a blot on the evening with the Swiss defender now a doubt for clash against Chelsea.

William Gallas only has a 20 per cent chance of making the game because of his thigh problem while Kolo Toure is suspended, leaving Arsene Wenger desperately short of options at the back.

The Gunners boss is optimistic over Djourou but may have to play Philippe Senderos, who has endured a difficult time against Blues striker Didier Drogba in the past.

Goalkeeper Jens Lehmann said: “We could have problems in defence for Chelsea. We will have to wait and see. We will find somebody who will show up as a centre-half.

“Philippe will be OK against Drogba - he's intelligent. It's not a problem. He has played some great games this year so we will see how he will cope on Sunday.”

Sunday's game will also see Ashley Cole line up against his former club, the full-back having left north London for Chelsea last August.

Lehmann understands why Cole decided to join the champions, adding: “I always liked Ashley. We had some major success together and I'm looking forward to playing against him.

“I will see if he has become stronger since going to Chelsea. It will be good to play against him. He is young and has made some mistakes, but I don't really care about that.

“For me, he is a nice guy and a fantastic player. He has gained a lot from his experiences at Arsenal but it was time for him to move onwards.

“You can't really blame him for the decision he made. That's life. He's a nice lad and a very good player.”

i just hope Sendeors would not embarass us as he did last season against chelsea at Stamford, field ing him would be one big risk Coach Arsene migh be willing to take since he does not have any other option.

i agree with you, we should definately not be afraid of any team provided you are in the UCL you are bound to play tough teams as you progress. there must not be anything like "am avioding this and this team" NO!! you must be ready to take on the hardest team in the if giving to you.   Is when you look down on yourself that you tend to loose.

Imagine the road we followed to the UCL finals last season--- If Barcelona had followed that line "sorry to say this they may not have made it to the finals"

Football is all about determination not you can't stand this team or you can't beat this team,
any thing can happen in the game of football.
Last season who ever believed we would play teams like Real Madrid, Juventus and Villareal and not conceed a single goal "not talking about our other first round games that we were pure at"
See what happened to Ac millan against Liverpool 3goals down in teh first half, but the second half it was a different story,

Any of the four English clubs including Liverpool can defeat Barcelona on a good day, there is nothing like "it can never happen" cos in the game of football
