When you guys say that the Igbos keep backing the wrong horse, I do wonder because whenever I look at the situation of our country, it presents nothing to be happy about. If this is what the “right horses” can offer, then we are in serious trouble as a Nation.
My brother, this truth is bitter.

The South East have become too accustomed to blame game and Lamentations. The country is not good for all but wailing on the sidelines would not cause any meaningful change neither would playing the opposition with our small numbers achieve any meaningful benefits.

When u mentioned south east I knew u have no clue what u are saying. No Igbo man will make president till another 10 or 50yrs. South east is not serious.
I concur.

The South East will continue to be the underdog in our national politics if we continue to play sentimental politics.

Politically, no one takes the South East serious and the people are not helping matters. Always backing the wrong horse.
PoliticsRe: What Are Obasanjo's Achievement In His 8 Years As President? by Marquee8: 8:09pm On Sep 16, 2021
boluvet:
ok since you ask, i will kindly oblige your request. I dont know how old you are now, but just incase you are not old enough to remember what Nigeria was like before Obasanjo took over office in 1999, let me quickly remind you. First and foremost, there was almost zero foreign direct investment in the Nigerian economy beyond the oil and gas sector. it was a time of despondence and despair for many Nigerians. It was an official policy of the government not to employ ie there was an EMBARGO ON EMPLOYMENT. As say an engineer if you didnt get a job in shell or chevron, you were sure to remain unemployed or remain in penury. The salary of the civil servant was absolutely nothing to write home about all the way to the very top. If you were not in the military, you were definitely a poor man. Telephone services were a thing for the rich in society. I remember my father used to have what we called not nine not 090 in those days and he bought it for 350,000 naira when the exchange rate of dollar to naira was under 20:1. He was using 50,000 monthly to maintain it. This is a time when neighbouring countries like benin and Togo were already using GSM. It was at this same time David Mark who was the then Minister said that telephone services is NOT for the poor. Mobile telephony was grossly resisted by the cabal in NITEL at the time because they were making and siphoning tonnes of money through NITEL. Nigeria was neck deep in international debt. A sizeable chunk of our GDP earnings through oil was used to service debt while our people suffered. I grew up in Lagos and i got my first driving licence in the year 1995. I remember driving in Lagos at the time and it was literarily impossible to drive faster than 40kmph except you wanted to die. The roads EVERYWHERE. i MEAN EVERYWHERE were death traps with potholes, no traffic lights, nothing!!! Nigeria and indeed Nigerians were in a state of despondency. Even if you had money then, there was only Nigeria airways which was grossly unreliable to carry you around. TV stations were just NTA, CHANNEL 5, 7, AND LTV 8 in Lagos.DBN and Channels had just been established just before Obasanjo came but they were just barely surviving. There is plenty plenty more, but I will stop here for now.

Now enter Obasanjo in 1999. 1st and foremost, the fact that we can even be chatting over the internet like this is the direct result of Obasanjos policies. Through the encouragement and stimulation of foreign direct investment in the telecomms sector against the cabals in the ministry of telecommunications and NITEL at the time Econet, and later MTN and later Globacom and even MTel invested in telecoms creating hundreds of thousands of jobs directly and indirectly. It was massive. For the first time, graduates actually had hope. All of a sudden because of the influx of capital, banks suddenly became viable and new banks began to spring up again creating jobs in the hundreds of thousands directly and indirectly. The financial sector became viable. Again because of the viability of the financial sector, the stock exchange which was hitherto moribund picked up pace and there was massive capital running through the NSE. It used to be old yorubas i knew who traded in shares, but all of a sudden many Nigerians got involved. Minimum wage. Obasanjo raised the minimum wage substantially. I was in the university of Ibadan in 1999 prior to which my lecturers simply did not have cars and only professor had very old rickety vehicles. After Obasanjo became president, prosperity swept through the civil service like a Tsunami. Civil servants could for the first time afford to send their kids to private schools and some even abroad. Study grants. Obasanjos Policies in educaional cooperation encouraged study grants to come to schools helping lecturers at the time to get training and exposure abroad. National Debt. For the first time, in our national history, when obasanjo was leaving office in 2007 Nigeria was able to negotiate her way out of DEBT. We were at ZERO debt. for the first time, all the money we earned could be focused on national development. if i am taking this point alone, i would say it was his greatest achievement, but it doesnt end there. CORRUPTION. Obasanjo established the EFCC AND ICPC and gave these institutions teeth to bite. Under the watchful eyes of Nuhu Ribadu, for the first time in my life i since Buhari in 1983, i saw a serious attempt in government to fight corruption. There was no regard to tribe, or religion or any other factor. For the first time, i saw big men gettiing jailed for corruption from Jolly Nyame in the North, to Tafa Balogun, the former IG of police, etc. The FCT took shape under the watchful eyes of Nasir El rufai and for the first time our capital city was looking like something to be proud of especially for Nigerians who had foreign friends. Lagos roads became motorable all the way through OSHODI!!!!, traffic lights everywhere amazing things happened (although this was Tinubu, but still Obasanjo was president). I can go on and on and on even to power generation, and other areas but let me stop here for now and take your questions as they may come.

Nigerians naively assumed that once we had a democracy that mirrored the American type, that automatically all our problems would vanish and yes, they were actually beginning to vanish but it wasnt because of democracy. It was because we had a leader who had vision. We had a leader who could recognize and utilize talent. We had a leader that was a gift from God, but guess what? Nigerians took it for granted. We did not know what God had done for us, so God took him away and gave us a sick president (Yaradua, who did his best by the way), Gave us a clueless president (who nearly sent us into civil war), and again gave us another sick president (Though a very honest man), who sadly cannot be in full control hence a cabal is ruling us. God did a miracle for Nigeria by giving us Obasanjo but we did not realize it. Now God is punishing us. Again i stand by the fact that Obasanjo is the best president Nigeria has EVER seen. I mean since 1914 amalgamation of Lord Lugard. We will be extremely lucky to get someone who even comes close.
So much respect for you. Many of these indomie generation can't relate.

Obasanjo laid the foundation on which we are thriving now.

Enigma1510:
My story na same thing as the Op, imagine being a spammer coz me no like to dey chat and i no like to dey show off or club...but i fit carry babes for myself and friends and I won’t touch am and still pay am more than normal because if i later switch on my light when i get home, and you aren’t my taste, i would just sleep off, if the lady don smoke and i dey smell am, i no go sleep that room, I don’t like alcohol but i sabi sey most runs girls drink alcohol because if the way guys Bleep them. Imagine olosho falling in love with you coz of the way you treat them and wouldn’t wanna Bleep your friends no matter what. I’d just be like ama increase your money, its you my pal want. I wouldn’t say because you are a prostitute, i must treat you like one but if you cross your boundary, when i shout, u go think sey i dey possessed. I think am attracted to smart women, worst part be sey other olosho i carry for my friends fit see me again another day and go wan follow me!!! And me no dey carry same girl again. Lmao, most times you go give your niggas the money to give the girls so it won’t look like you are the one spending the cash and you niggas go Bleep the girl tire and still give am change. Their gfs go wan date you, go dey complain sey dem broke and if you transfer just 20k, dem go start to dey chat you up and dey badmouth your padi and how stingy he is...blah blah blah,

Mama talk sey buy land, me prefer gold, and i know how to bribe alot to avoid stress anywhere. the only thing was i never did anything illegal till i finish university and that was why i was able to still hit 4.11/5.00 GP in one if the toughest department in engineering.

Na that time all this SEO dey hot and I remember leapviral...lol, i was using a script then and i no buy car though i had the cash but i no sabi tell people no if dem ask for money. And i used to believe 5k was too small to give someone then...coz my brain go convert am to USD!!! Lol...
When i con finish NYSC, it was easier to become a spammer because i used to create landing pages and all and doing affiliate marketing, i sabi how much go dey my account. If i dey broke e mean sey i get like 5M for acct, my brain go dey work on how to make more coz i dey lazy. Wetin be my own with CV!!! Had already said i would never ever work under anybody. Bought my first car and i no dey post anything, na friends cast me. Bought second one for transport business a month later, bought the third for my friend whose car we were using when i had none few weeks later. All in less than 3 months, told him to pay back anytime he makes the money, i no dey comot during the day, na night, i no like people seeing me. But the noise of generator 24/7 made people wonder how i dey make money without leaving home. And i dey buy 50litres of petrol!!!
Started business with my so-called friend and was the money man but nobody knew, I wouldn’t talk to any olosho unless na my taste, dem go dey ask que who dem wan follow, you go see me wearing bathroom slipass, but anyone i choose go follow me reluctantly until we reach house and dem see sey na me be the owner of everything including the house and i always see the look in their eyes sey, so the guy in bathroom slipass na the joker. I just love wearing anything comfortable. I won’t buy clothes but would give people money to do shopping.
Na when no update dey, spent the money in my main account and started touching my savings i knew something dey happen, car developed fault, instead make i manage, i said make dem remove the whole shit under the bonnet and put another one...spent around 800k to repair a car wey no worth 3M. I just love disguising, i no dey shout but money no dey enter, na xo i start dey borrow niggas money sey when money enter, we go sort am out, na one by one niggas comot. The one wey be face of the business and i made sure the biz acct na either to sign incase i travel, him dey spend money i dey use run salary for the two of us as i dey plan to comot, na the day he withdrew 120k i talked....this guy no tell me wetin he dey use money do. Lmao...the guy go buy land with my money. Later got to know...na the same guy i buy car for, even phone wey pass mine.

Na when you dey see too much debit alert you go sabi sey something dey sup!!! Me wey go dey use one useless phone go buy better one for friends and families because i am always happy anytime i surprise anybody. But when nothing dey again, fake friends dey follow another person comot, family members sef dey shout...go find work, even if na 50k, you are too lazy. But i no lazy when i dey give everyone monthly allowance...lol or give dem money to pay salary for their workers.

Bro, my account entered red!!! I never knew i was just being lucky and people dey pretend to be my friend coz of what they were collecting and they were keeping their own...a week turned into a month and a month turned into a year and didn’t make that big money, was only making money to survive...i still believe everything was a big lesson but i fit borrow to make others happy.
The day it dawned on me was the day i was calling everyone i needed 200k and was gonna return it thesame day and nobody gave me 1 naira i knew I made a fucking big mistake despite all the humility and everything. Didnt know how to spend. My own is make money enter and make e comot!!! Sey big money is coming. We all budget for money we never see, like saying once i see 20M, dear remind me to do this...

Me wey no fit do job wey less than $5k con dey do job of $1k, $200 just to sha work and continue trying. Nobody told me to close my laptop and start afresh...thats my plan...i know my big moment is still coming but i gotta wakeup and know sey i no dey yankee but Naija and make my brain no dey convert!!! You go just hear me talk sey ordinary 50,000naira wey be $100btc.
Lmao. I don’t get intimidated so when i see guys using a ride of 17M, because i would just convert the 17M to dollars and laugh it off...na dubai made me realize cars are not expensive at all!!! Na naira no get value...who wouldn’t wanna earn in dollars and change it to naira. I would still laugh and think lets see whats gonna happen in 5 years.
At least i got my certificate which i earned without doing any runs. I read like my life depended on it and i earned it but certificate i never sabi who i gave to help me keep sef. I just have the scanned copy of everything.

Now i don get CV but i no sabi how dem dey look for work. I no get any shirt, tie or those shoes you go wear go interview. Not even one!!! It’s depressing like mad coz u go dey reason sey u wey dey spend 50k daily without leaving house con dey look for 10k. Na music dey help atimes!!! And na mood go determine the genre if music to listen to.
So Op, we all gotta retrace our steps and start from the scratch because game money will always go back into the game if not well spent!!!
I always tell people I didn’t spend lavishly because thats what people would say but na lie, if you give someone 10k, they would think you must have up to 500k, not knowing you even gave them outta the money you borrowed.

I realized i started seeing money at a young age(19years) affected my thinking till now. When i was importing but wasn’t good at marketing so i partnered with a friend then too and the biz got bleeped up, got broke and later started making money again, still dropped all the cash for another business but they were big money to us then, 200l student wey get 500k for acct, and dey collect 6k for pocket money every month. So i no sabi spend, but i sabi borrow ppl money dem no go return. And i sabi drop money for biz but people must not know na me drop the money. I no like overhyping. Thesame way i was hiding my result and was always sitting at the back of the class and missed series of tests until my stupid department pasted our result even with our names on it. That was when people no teach me anything again.
It took me years to realize never to borrow ppl money again but just give them what you can or borrow them and forget the money because it would never come back!!!

Saying all these tonight made me feel good. Sold all my gold, sold lotta stuffs just to satisfy ppl, na when i called my mum i wanted to sell the only car left and my wife started crying i realized I need to act like a man and not wait for the money to come...man must have a constant source of income. My next move is in my mind. I just dey call everybody i dey look for work, dem no believe...

Sorry for all the typo errors, I don’t have time to be correcting anything.
This one touch me! Resonates with me too well.

Big up man. Who no go, no know.

There is farmers-herders crises and then there is the issue with banditry. They are two different things. Herders have been existing in the south for several decades largely without conflicts until about 30 years ago when we started seeing a rise in farmers-herders crisis. This was why GEJ released around #100 billion to state governors in 2014 to establish ranches, the state governments collected the funds and today are preventing herders from going about their businesses without establishing the ranches they received money for.

https://www.ripplesnigeria.com/states-frittered-cbns-n100bn-jonathan-doled-ranching-development/

On the other hand, the herders are one of the biggest victims of bandits who started with cattle rustling and who have rustled thousands of cattles owned by herders, throwing many into poverty and killing others

The banditry issue became worse after being neglected for several years. Some of these bandits have been killing and stealing as far back as 2008. And it has also been receiving a lot of media attention in recent years unlike before.
Below is a link to a BBC report of bandit attack in 2012.

I like setting the record straight. I have seen a lot of lies flying about for the past few days, especially of that boy that wanted to cry cos people spoke Igbo. If Yoruba should start claiming lands, we will claim Edo with Bini sef cos we own their obaship. But we see beyond that. Those are people with different cultures. The only thing we share with Bini is the obaship and as for the citizens, they are not Yoruba.

That Oba of Bini have Yoruba ancestors doesn't mean his kingdom belongs to us. Same fallacy you guys want to pull on bonny cos jaja had Igbo bloodline.
Why not claim it... Who is stopping you?

Oh! Because you know too well that an ancestral claim goes beyond language. The Binis don't even speak Yoruba.

But for the case of Bonny and Opobo. History speaks volumes (not your gutter blogs but research works dating back to 1800s) of Igbo occupation and leadership of the ancestral houses of these towns and the exploits of the Igbos in establishing, building and putting these towns on the world map of colonial trade and recognition.

Unlike some people yet to determine affirmatively whether they made Benin or Benin made them.

PoliticsRe: Bonny Belongs To Ijaws! by Marquee8: 3:46pm On Sep 07, 2021
bobowaja:
The issue of opobo and bonny people should be laid to rest. It belongs to the Ijaws.

First before you shout Yoruba awedu eating afonja, you should understand I am a full blooded Yoruba man. No need to remind me.

Secondly, I love history and I won't like seeing revisionists articles flying everywhere on the forum.

To the matter. I think ijaws are to be blamed for this flaw. They broke the first rule of survival which is self preservation.

There is something called acculturation in their culture. It is an act of baptizing of stranger into their folds. And in this case, pepple house, which was the ruling house.

Opobo was acculturised into Ijaw way of life and made to benefit from the house inheritance.

According to town culture, heritage is not by birthrights but by who is capable to rule the house. Jaja was capable, though there was a in-house civil war when he was made to rule the house, but he won decisively. This marks the beginning of his exploits.

The Ijaws followed him as their ruler. And during the palm oil boom (palm oil also known and red oil). Jaja has already taken control of the water ways and creeks for trading with the Europeans (his sagacity and business acumen can't be overruled). This sole act gave him some form of monopoly over the new trade in the creeks, he was the sole exporter to the UK in rivers while still maintaining holds on who trades what along the water ways with other European countries. He was wealthy so does the city he built from the ijaw followers.

A source from premiumtimes: https://www.premiumtimesng.com/opinion/155532-general-minimah-opobo-ancestry-burden-history-eric-teniola.html

This will later put him into trouble with the Queen, as the UK was so greedy to the extent that she wanted to trade directly with the merchants which they did after sentencing jaja to banishment in Accra (present day Ghana). Jaja himself was instrumental in conquering Ashanti forces (but let's not deviate from the topic).

The palm oil boom brought about large numbers of Igbo in the hinterlands into bonny (it must be corrected that though some were slaves but most Igbos that came during the oil boom were free born not slaves). They came with their cultures and way of lives in such numbers that threatened the indigenous people. Instead of ijaw to take control, they decided to hide some vital part of the community from them like languages etc... But this backfires as Igbo became the largest spoken language in the area in just matter of years (the indigenous people also adopted the language).

Another source (oral interview): http://asirimagazine.com/en/opobo-chronicles-from-genesis-to-revelation/

It should be noted that this is not the first time indigenous people will adopt other people's language, clothings, names and other cultural values. Example is Akoko Edo in present day Edo state. Most of the towns and villages are very fluent in Yoruba language, they adopted the Yoruba language and some part of cultures. Even some of their towns have Yoruba names, but they are not Yoruba - they are edoic group. Another example is ijaw in present day ondo state. Most of them speak Yoruba fluently and adopt the names, typical one is Omoyele Sowore.... He is an ijaw man who could be mistaken for a Yoruba man. Apart from those, there are some far Edo towns in etsako east local govt like okpella etc that have Yoruba names and also speak the language fluently, that doesn't make them Yoruba. The current ruling house in Ilorin all bears Yoruba name and speak Yoruba fluently, that doesn't make them Yoruba... They are Fulanis! The itsekiri adopted their clothings from Bini, that doesn't make them one.

The point I am trying to make here is that, people adopting your language, name and culture doesn't change them from who they were... Their identities will still remain intact as their genetical makeup.

Even an heavily biased igbodefender blog here admitted one truth which agreed to heavy migration of Igbo to the ijaw owned town.

Source: https://igbodefender.com/2016/05/16/more-facts-emerge-that-opobo-and-bonny-people-are-mostly-igbo/

To that boy that said he wanted to cry when he heard people speaking Igbo fluently in bonny, you have tears in your eyes. Language is for communication. If bonny is located in the north, they will speak Hausa fluently. In Southern Kaduna alone, there are more than 20 tribes. All of them speak Hausa but still retain their cultural identities.

I am done. You are opened to bash me, but make sure you bring evidences of opposing views. Insults alone won't do the trick.
Your submission is one of the most baseless ever seen.

You forget that the two main houses at the time were governed by igbos even though they bore supposed acultured names.

If you people want to contribute to a subject with this depth, it is often best to research properly.

I want you to access this YouTube video. Start to watch from 5:30, as I need you to observe the Ijaw fedora hats those canoe people are wearing. Now from 6:00, listen to the interviewee mention some of the participants in the Opobo boat regatta competition, which includes OJEZULIGBO, OKWUEME,. OBIEFULE e.t.c

Anyway, the most popular politician in Opobo has already declared the Igboness of Opobo so you lot are wasting time
After watching the video, it is futile to argue the igboness or non thereof of Opobo.

Any Ijaw minion who is looking for land to grab should look elsewhere.

i am a full fledged opobo son from Dappa's war canoe house. Yes we speak a mixture of ibani/ijaw wit igbo. That does not make us igbos our culture, traditions are all ijoid, so look for a brother that have access to the atlantic some where else
You lie!

No full fledged Opobo son is Ijaw neither is there a language etimology known as ijoid... Another bloody propaganda from a distorted mind.
