A poorly hatched plan to smear the governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano went awry midweek when the general public was informed that the photographs of a private jet captured on the tarmac of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu which were earlier published as images of the aircraft the governor had chartered for a trip to Abuja were actually pictures of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s private jet. I was at the Akanu Ibiam Airport in Enugu that morning and witnessed it all. WILLIE OBIANO While I waited for my Arik Airline flight to Abuja that morning, I saw the media aide of a former South East governor snapping away with his camera at the parked aircraft. Some eagle-eyed airport security operatives detected and accosted him. A mild drama ensued between him and the operatives, attracting attention but it was quickly resolved. However, momentslater, images of the aircraft flooded the social media from with a story that Obiano had chartered the jet for his trip to Abuja. The story which ran under the heading “Obiano still chartering flights” alleged that Governor Obiano had just flown out of Enugu with 13 aides in the private jet which those of us at the airport at the time could still see parked on the tarmac while governor Obiano waited for the same Arik flight to Abuja in the VIP Lounge. The story further claimed that Obiano had spent $15,000 to charter the private jet that would take him to a scheduled meeting in Abuja with some northerners then concluded with the usual attacks on the governor’s person and achievements. I was horrified to read that. It suddenly dawned on me that most of the stories I had read on Facebook and elsewhere may have been written by same person. The dubious story about the private jet was fabricated to create the impression that Obiano was wasting money on chartered flights in the midst of recession. But writer and his sponsors had failed to think this one through and created a terrible mess out of it. As a journalist from Anambra State, I was horrified to see first-hand and for the first time, the web of lies that the aide to the former governor and his internet boys have been weaving around governor Obiano which I now deeply regret that I had believed all along to be true. I am one of the many Anambrarians who erroneously follow the writer on Facebook thinking that his stories which are always critical of governor Obiano were factual and true. But I felt gutted and disgusted that morning when I noticed how he had cleverly framed governor Obiano up with a totally false story that was made believable by the fact that the governor was at the airport that morning and that there was a private jet on the tarmac. I felt pity for the governor who has been repeatedly cast in bad light by “clever” people.Indeed, after watching that sordid airport drama I decided that I would not forgive myself if I failed to write what I saw and share with my fellow Anambrarians and other Nigerians before it is too late. I personally think that the writer and his boys are trying too hard and have gone too far in their efforts to frustrate Obiano’s second term bid. I also think that creating such a controversy over former Vice President Atiku’s aircraft is tasteless and cruel. I learned that the Vice President had landed in Enugu on his way to the 5th Nnamdi Azikiwe Annual Lecture holding in Awka that morning. The former Vice President deserved more respect from his hosts than they had accorded him with the noise over his aeroplane. Speaking at a political round-table organized by the Movement for Greater Anambra State, MOFGAS, in Awka, Amaechi urged them to strive to conquer economic and technical power since the hallmark of every government was to effect development to make life better for the people. acknowledged the neglect of Igbo nation, which he said, contributed immensely towards independence and economic growth of the country, he argued that rather than bemoan their situation, Igbo people should exploit their ingenuity by using their technical and business acumen to develop their land. Giving example with the industrial town of Nnewi, the elder statesman observed that the people of the area have been investing at home, developing their town and providing employment for their people. Chairman of Presidents of Ohaneze in the Igbo –speaking states of the country, Dr. Chris Eluemuno agreed with Amaechi, insisting that Igbo did not belong to the scheme of things in Nigeria, arguing that until they established a political party that they could call their own, they would remain a toy in the hands of the rest of the people of the country. In his speech, the chairman of MOFGAS, Chief Shedrack Anakwue said the group’s desire was to seek for a new coalition that would produce a governor after the heart of the people during the next dispensation. According to him, the body is made up of committed Anambra people cutting across the 21 local government areas with a vision and desire to facilitate and engender good governance in the state. He said: “What we have in mind is a government that will be devoid of impunity, nepotism, denominational discrimination and all the divisive tendencies that are capable of tearing us apart. Rather, we desire a governor that will unite us as a people with common goal”. Also contributing, a former governorship aspirant in the state, Dr. Alex Obiogbolu said Anambra was tired of slogans, adding that ‘now is time to action’. According to him, a leader must be capable of mobilizing the people, creating jobs, judiciously mobilizing state resources and be held accountable at the end of his tenure. Governor Willie Obiano, Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, APC chieftain, Chief George Moghalu and leader of PPA in the state, Mr. Godwin Ezeemo were represented at the ceremony, while former Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Oseloka Obaze, among others, attended. Nollywood star Wini Lazarus has joined the league of young Nigerians, who have embraced agriculture, with a farm located in Edo State. And from all indications, the actor cum movie producer seems to have take time out to concentrate on expanding her farm project. “I’ve decided to go embrace agriculture and I’m willing to go into it full time, if the ministry of Agriculture is willing to partner with me to expand my farm located in Edo State. For now, I’m dedicating my time and energy to serve my father’s land because, she I understand what most Nigerians are going through,” the said. The second child in a family of seven, Wini, who hails from Cross River State, had tough times growing up, which she believes prepared her adequately for the challenges of life. “It was very tough; those who grew up without their parents will understand what I mean by being tough. It was a life characterised by hardship and struggles; not much love,” she noted. But looking back, she said, “I’m very grateful to God; those periods made me who I am today. Not only has it paved way for my chosen path and career, the challenges has made me a very strong woman,” she noted. Wini’s romance with the world of entertainment started at a very tender age, when she used to entertain people for free. Eventually, that passion turned into a career in acting, which brought her to limelight. “The entertainment industry is a nice place where you meet different people; brilliant and intelligent people with great potentials. This is a place with great and bright future. Above all, it’s a place where things happen, lots of entertainment and fun.” However, it wasn’t fun all the way for the actor turned farmer. The first three years was very difficult; I kept going for audition without any possibility to get a role, but I did not give up. I was persistent, believing in God all the way because with Him, all things are possible,” she said. Thought she got her movie break with Fight for Passion, Wini has featured in over 20 movies and has also produced her personal work, Black Cat Angels. The Managing Director, Total Exploration and Production, Nigeria Limited, Mr. Nicolas Terraz on Thursday said the company has made over $10bn investments in the country in the last five years. Terraz said this at the 34th Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists Annual Conference Management Session -1, in Lagos. The conference has as its theme “Upstream Business Environment in a Recession Economy – Nigerian Example”. The CEO said that the company had added over 2.3 billion barrels of crude to Nigeria’s production from 1966 to 2015.He said, “In the last five years alone, we have made approximately $10bn of investments in Nigeria . “Through decades of executing development projects, Total’s activities have contributed to creating jobs and developing human capacity in Nigeria. “Despite the challenging operating environment, Total remains strongly committed to the developments of its activities in the country, while working relentlessly to adapt to the current environment. “In September 2015, we achieved first oil from the Ofon Phase 2 Development Project, which will increase production capacity from the Ofon field by 60,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. “Development drilling is currently on-going to reach the production plateau. Beyond the incremental production, this project also eliminated routine flaring in Ofon field and allowed monetisation of the gas from Ofon. “This was recognised by the World Bank – sponsored Global Gas Flaring Reduction Partnership, which gave an Excellence Award to our Ofon-2 Project on 9th September 2015, for this achievement.” He said that the environment required them to adapt and reduce cost without compromising safety while preparing for a future of growth or expansion. According to him, the impact of the low oil price is not peculiar to Nigeria alone; the country is particularly affected because a large part of its revenue comes from the hydrocarbon sector. Terraz said that in addition to low oil price, Nigeria had also experienced a reduction in production volumes due to security issues. He said, “The current context is challenging for both the country and the industry. “The Government is facing revenue shortages. Oil and gas companies, on their part, have to adapt to the present realities. Full details at http://www.akelicious.com/2016/11/total-makes-10bn-investments-in-nigeria.html?m=1

In short MMM global is a Ponzi scheme that also runs the form of a pyramid scheme. At first you will be told that it is a social financial network where you can participate in giving money freely to help other people. They claim that they are not a business, bank or an MLM company, but they are far worse than that. Here is how it works: When you join this program and you decide to deposit $100 to help another person, you will get 100 Mavro. Once you have your Mavro, it will start to grow at a rate of 30% per month. So in your second month you will have 130 mavro and in the third month you will have 169 mavro. Mavro is the currency at which this whole system functions and once you have the desired amount of Mavro, you can request your money. This is how this whole model works. The more money you deposit to “help” people, the more money you will make. Where does the Pyramid Scheme fit in? A pyramid scheme is an illegal business model where participants are promised money for referring other people into the scheme. There is no real investment involved and this model is also unsustainable. As a normal member you have the choice to refer people to this program. For this you will earn a lifetime commission rate of 10% from all the donations of each member that joined under you. So if your member got $100, you will earn $10. Then you have the option to become a manager and you need to take a 10 day course to be able to be one. Once you are a manager, you will get the managers bonus where you can create your own multilevel structure (Wait!! Did the website not say that it is not a MLM?). At least a MLM has actual products to sell. So once you are a manager you will earn 5% commissions from your first level and 3$ commissions from your second level and so forth. What about the owner of MMM? The owner is Sergey Mavrodi who is a criminal that comes from Russia and was found guilty for scamming 10 000 investors for $4.3 million. The most disturbing part about it all is that this guy is supported by a massive group of people. So many people are saying good things about him, because they are promoting his product. Here in South Africa the people are going nuts about this program and mostly the black population is being targeted by his company. It is a shame because the majority of these people are really struggling to survive. He already has his company working in over 100 countries and the Philippines are also going crazy. Even Wikipedia admits that he is a scam artist. Why I call MMM a Ponzi scheme A Ponzi Scheme is an investment program where the investors will get their returns from the capital generated by new investors rather from the profits. They will always lure people to invest into the program by promising them very high return on their investments. There are also no products involved in a Ponzi Scheme which means that there is no profit. The money you get from MMM will not come from any profits or whatsoever, but will come from new members that are investing their own money into this program. In order for this program to pay its existing members, they need to recruit new members. This is why they introduced the Pyramid scheme. This scheme is designed to entice people to recruit new members into the program by promising them a commission from each donation their referrals get. Take a look at Youtube and you will see hundreds if not thousands of people trying to promote MMM. Is MMM a scam? Yes it is and I see that nobody is doing something about it. If you are involved with this scheme, then you need to take out your money as soon as possible or otherwise you will lose it all. These schemes never last long because sooner or later it will be shut down by the government or it will become bankrupt. If you are making money from them at this moment, then good for you, because it will not last long. I hear horror stories of people that invested all the money they had and then lost all of it in their first month. If you are Full details at http://www.akelicious.com/2016/11/expert-review-mmm-is-just-another-ponzi.html?m=1

The presidency may have finally caved in to the demands by members of the National Assembly for the release of N100 billion meant for constituency projects before they consider and approve any request from the executive arm of government. Several legislative approvals sought by President Muhammadu Buhari have suffered defeats or delays in recent weeks, particularly the request for the $30 billion external borrowing plan, the 2017-2019 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP), and virement of N180 billion in the 2016 budget. about 50 per cent of the constituency funds have been quietly released through the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing, National Commission for Refugees and other ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) of government. That the leadership of the National Assembly secured commitments from the presidency for the release of the funds. “Recall that the Senate President met with the president several times last week. So the commencement of the release of the funds would smoothen the path for the approvals being sought by the executive,” a source told THISDAY. The source, however, noted that while the lawmakers may soft pedal on their initial stance, many of them remain sceptical that the funds would be completely released by the finance ministry. “The sour relations between both arms of government lingers, so both view each other with suspicion and do not trust each other. Many of the lawmakers are however not convinced that all the money will be released, particularly when considering utterances of the executive. “Maybe only some lawmakers will eventually benefit,” the source explained. Another source, who confirmed that the constituency funds were being released, however noted that the executive arm of government is currently making efforts to repair its fractured relations with the legislature. “Before now, only Dogara (Speaker) and Gbajabiamila seemed to be the sort of balancing forces in the legislature, but obviously the Senate carries more weight. “If the president cannot have his men there, he has to find a way to work with whoever is there. The House alone cannot pass his requests,” the source said. Indications that the lawmakers may be somewhat appeased emerged as the leadership of the House of Representatives yesterday passed a motion mandating its Committee on Appropriation to consider the request for the virement of N180 billion.Other committees to which the virement are related to would also serve as sub-committees of the Appropriation Committee to consider the request. These include the Committees on Nigerian Air Force, Youth Development, Niger Delta and Works, among others. The motion was sponsored by the Majority Leader, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, who recalled that the communication from the president requesting the virement of the funds was read on the floor of the House on October 25. Presiding, Deputy Speaker Yussuff Sulaimon Lasun put the question on whether the prayer should be accepted. The motion was not subjected to debate as is normally the practice.http://www.akelicious.com/2016/11/fg-begins-release-of-n100bn-for.html?m=1 Full details at

President-elect Donald Trump has chosen Republican National Committee Chairman, Reince Priebus, the favourite of the party’s establishment and a low-key Washington insider, to serve in the influential position of White House chief of staff. He also named Stephen Bannon, Trump’s campaign chairman and former head of the conservative Breitbart News, as his chief strategist and senior counsellor. The choice of Mr. Priebus, a loyal campaign ally to Mr. Trump who has close ties with House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan, signalled a willingness to work with Mr. Ryan and the Republican-led Congress to get his agenda passed. “I am thrilled to have my very successful team continue with me in leading our country. “Steve and Reince are highly qualified leaders who worked well together on our campaign and led us to a historic victory. “Now I will have them both with me in the White House,” Mr. Trump said in a statement. Mr. Trump, who will take office on January 20, 2017 and will succeed Democratic President Barack Obama. The Republican president-elect has been working on his transition to the White House since Tuesday’s election win over Democrat Hillary Clinton and contemplating the candidates for top jobs in his administration. The chief of staff position, which serves as a gatekeeper and agenda-setter for the president, is typically one of the most important early choices for an incoming president. The choice of Mr. Priebus as chief of staff could anger some Trump supporters counting on him, as he said during the campaign, to “drain the swamp” of business-as-usual Washington insiders. Justice Chika Obiozor of a Federal High Court, Lagos, yesterday, sentenced a 38-year-old drug peddler, Rasheed Adekunle, to three years imprisonment, over sale of Cannabis Sativa, popularly called Marijuana and Igbo. Obiozor sentenced the convict after the National Drugs Laws and Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, prosecutor, Mr. Jeremiah Aernan, revie-wed the facts of the charge against the convict. The convict had pleaded guilty to a count charge of unlawful dealing in the banned weed, during his arraignment. While reviewing the facts of the offence, the NDLEA’s prosecutor, informed the court that the convict was arrested by the agency’s operatives on August 17, at Two Boys House, Iba Road, Ibeju-Ajah, Lagos, with 2.1 kilogrammes of Cannabis Sativa, a narcotic similar to cocaine, heroine and other controlled drugs, which he was not permitted to carry by law. Aernan told the court that the convict’s act was contrary to and punishable under Section 11(c) of NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004. Aernan, after reviewing the facts of the case, urged the court to convict and sentence the drug dealer accordingly. The convict had earlier pleaded with the court to tamper justice with mercy and promised not to trade in the banned weed or any other hard drugs if given second opportunity. Justice Obiozor, after listening to the review of the facts of the case by the prosecutor, as well as the convict’s leniency plea, sentenced the convict to three years imprisonment. Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State on Friday said the state had secured a N3bn grant from the Central bank of Nigeria to invest in SMEs and agriculture. Obiano made the disclosure at the flag-off of training for the first batch of 150 youths at the Federal Youths Training Centre, Mgbakwu near Awka. He said the grant would be shared to medium and small scale entrepreneurs and farmers in the state. According to the governor, the amount was approved due to the effective use of a similar grant of N1.5bn to agriculture in 2015.He said that the new grant would be used to finance small businesses and entrepreneurship development in the state. Obiano said this was in view of the fact that increase spending by federal and state governments in strategic sectors was the most viable option to pull the economy out of the current recession. The governor urged individuals to acquire marketable skills and engage in agriculture as these were the best options that could put the economy on the path to prosperity at this moment of recession and inflation. Obiano said that Anambra was doing well in agriculture, adding that 30 trailers of rice and 100 trucks of vegetables were being moved out of the state daily. He said the training scheme was wholly free with a take-off package of maximum of N500, 000 for successful youths who were found worthy after the three months training. He said, “We have to pump money into the economy and not the other way round; that is what we are doing through our investment in agriculture and empowerment off these youths in contemporary skills. “This Federal Youth Centre will continue to get our attention, it had been abandoned since 2008, but we have revived it and are determined to make it effective. “Every year, we shall have over 1,000 youths trained and empowered here.” NAN http://www.akelicious.com/2016/11/anambra-gets-n3bn-cbn-grant-for-agric.html#more

Twenty-five years after its creation; decades during which it grew into becoming Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre and Africa’s fifth largest economy, Lagos, paradoxically, has been reduced almost to begging for just one per cent of revenue accruable to the Federal Government, to address its infrastructural decay. ONE PER CENT! Despite the meagreness of the demand, the request is being shot at again and again by political shortsightedness. With the current economic recession, however, opponents of the proposal may soon realise the nation, rather than Lagos State, is the greater loser. Lagos was at the centre of polemics nationally recently when the Special Status Bill for Lagos State was shut down at the Senate. The manner the bill, meant to provide Lagos with one percent of the revenue accruable to the Federal Government, was vehemently rejected, resulting a rancorous session made it a topic for discussion outside the Senate. Though it was not the first time, the bill would be finding its way to the Senate but unlike the first time, it was able to scale through the committee stage to the floor of the Senate. Those who are calling for a Special Status funding for Lagos premised their argument on the fact that there are too many pressures on infrastructure in Lagos largely due to not just the population, but the federal government not adequately servicing its assets in the state. And some of these assets are money-spinner for the Federal Government. For instance, the ports, whether sea or air, generate huge sum of money for the federal government, yet, the roads that lead to them, let alone the ones that service the lead road, are left unattended to adequately, having ripple negative effect on other infrastructures within the state. And because Lagos is the commercial nerve centre of Nigeria, it has continued to attract Nigerians from across cities and towns of the country, resulting in huge inflow of persons on a daily basis, with a good chunk targeting Lagos as their abode. To the promoters of the one per cent special fund, it would help the state to stay afloat and continue to be a commercial hub not only for Nigeria but Africa with the multiplier effect on Nigeria’s economy. They draw their inspiration from the fact that though United States of America, Brazil and Germany relocated their capital, the former capital cities never suffer neglect the way Lagos is neglected by the Federal Government. While introducing the Bill on the floor of the Senate, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, had argued that Lagos with strategic socio-economic significance and statistics showing that 6 of 10 international passengers arrive in it and 8 of 10 travellers depart from it, cannot be left alone to carry the burden. Relying on a report from Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) in 2008, she said that 86.2 per cent of companies’ income taxes and 56.7 per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) were collected in Lagos. “Key sectors of the economy namely: manufacturing, construction, telecommunications, financial institutions and insurance are domiciled in Lagos. Lagos also plays a major role as host to sporting, entertainment and cultural events. It is also the home of hospitality given the numerous hotels and restaurants located within the state. “Compared with the rest of the country, Lagos has the smallest landmass of about 3,671square kilometers in Nigeria and the highest population density of about 2,649 persons per square kilometre. Although the National Population Census, according to its 2006 census, named Lagos the second most populous state in Nigeria, evidence shows that the state is also the transit state which plays host to millions of indigenes of other states in Nigeria who commute to Lagos for commercial transactions on a daily basis,” she added. With all these, she felt strongly that Lagos deserves a special funding status. With the some of the points and arguments pushed forward by Tinubu on why Lagos should be considered for the Special Status Funding, it brings to the fore the misnomer of the state generating the revenue and the federal government spending it on its behalf. When some senators on an oversight function in Lagos during the week stopped by at the Lagos House, Ikeja, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode used that opportunity to appeal to the Senate to revisit the Special Status Bill. He argued that the passage of the bill would translate to economic prosperity and well-being of Nigeria. “Lagos being a cosmopolitan city and the economic capital of Nigeria must be assisted by the Federal Government to address infrastructure challenges confronting it.” Ambode said that Lagos is home to every tribe in the country, and the passage of the bill by Senators should be viewed from the point of its importance to the country, and not just to Lagos. He said: “Come December 12, 2016, it will be 25 years that the capital of Nigeria was moved from Lagos to Abuja. So, 25 years after, this is where we are. I welcome wholeheartedly when Senator Sani Yerima said anything that Lagos needs; the Senate will support us. “So, I like to use this platform firstly to say a big thank you to the Senate President and the Deputy Senate President for allowing us to table our one percent special status because we have been struggling to put that up in the seventh Assembly, it was not done but it was through this eight Assembly that it was actually tabled and so we thank them for that. “If we have about twelve Senators here and we are looking for two-third, we are saying here that it would not be out of place to revisit our appeal and our bill. Lagos is thoroughly cosmopolitan; it is a mini-Nigeria and then the wellbeing of Lagos is the total wellbeing of Nigeria and everybody has a stake here in Lagos and as a government, we have continually addressed the cosmopolitan nature of Lagos in a way that is suitable and comfortable for all Nigerians irrespective of tribe, creed or religion,” he said. The House of Representatives on Wednesday began the move to stop the joint account that exists between states and local government areas. The lower legislative chamber also took a step to alter Section 162 of the Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution, to ensure financial autonomy of local government councils across the country. While leading a debate on the Bill, the Member representing Isuikwato/Umunneochi federal constituency of Abia State, Nkiruka Onyejeocha explained that the proposed amendment when passed into law will foster the autonomy, transparency and accountability of local government administration in the country.“The practices of true federalism is lacking in Nigeria, especially at the local government level. Some state governments deprive their local governments of principal source of their revenues.“Unless more stable internal source of revenue are exploited, and state-local government joint account abolished, the objective of strengthening local governments in terms of its relationship with state and federal governments will remain a mirage”, Hon. Onyejeocha said. Speaking further, the Lawmaker revealed that “with this joint account in place, many state governments starve local governments of funds, especially funds accruing from the federation account.” Full details at http://www.akelicious.com/2016/11/reps-move-to-stop-state-and-local.html#more
