Health11 Reasons Why You’re Not Losing Belly Fat by marycoolrose(op): 5:12pm On Dec 24, 2014
You're getting older

As you get older, your body changes how it gains and loses weight. Both men and women experience a declining metabolic rate, or the number of calories the body needs to function normally. On top of that, women have to deal with menopause.

"If women gain weight after menopause, it's more likely to be in their bellies," said Dr. Michael Jensen, professor of medicine in the Mayo Clinic's endocrinology division. In menopause, production of the hormones estrogen and progesterone slows down. Meanwhile, testosterone levels also start to drop, but at a slower rate. This shift in hormones causes women to hold onto weight in their bellies. The good news: you can fight this process. Read on.

You're doing the wrong workout

A daily run or Spin class is great for your heart, but cardio workouts alone won't do much for your waist.

"You need to do a combination of weights and cardiovascular training," said Dr. Sangeeta Kashyap, an endocrinologist at Cleveland Clinic. Strength training increases muscle mass, which sets your body up to burn more fat.

"Muscle burns more calories than fat, and therefore you naturally burn more calories throughout the day by having more muscle," said Kate Patton, a registered dietitian at Cleveland Clinic. Patton recommends 250 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise or 125 minutes of high-intensity exercise a week.

Health.com: 25 Bodyweight Exercises You Can Do Anywhere

You're eating too many processed foods

"Refined grains like white bread, crackers, and chips, as well as refined sugars in sweetened drinks and desserts increase inflammation in our bodies," Patton said. "Belly fat is associated with inflammation, so eating too many processed foods will hinder your ability to lose belly fat."
Natural foods like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains are full of antioxidants, which have anti-inflammatory properties and may therefore actually prevent belly fat, Patton says.

You're eating the wrong fats

The body doesn't react to all fats in the same way. Research correlates high intake of saturated fat (the kind in meat and dairy) to increased visceral fat, Patton said. On the other hand, monounsaturated fats (the kind in olive oil and avocados) and specific types of polyunsaturated fats (mainly omega-3s, found in walnuts, sunflower seeds, and fatty fish like salmon) have anti-inflammatory effects in the body, and if eaten in proper portions may do your body good. But Patton warned that eating too much fat of any kind increases your calorie intake and could lead to weight gain, so enjoy healthy fats in moderation.

Your workout isn't challenging enough

To banish stubborn belly fat, you have to ramp up your workouts. In a study published in the journal Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, people who completed a high-intensity workout regimen lost more belly fat than those who followed a low-intensity plan. (In fact, the low-intensity exercises experienced no significant changes at all.)

"You need to exercise at full intensity because the end goal is to burn more calories, and high intensity exercise does just that," said Natalie Jill, a San Diego, California-based certified personal trainer.

High intensity workouts mean you're going all out for as long as you can. If this sounds intimidating, think of it this way: you'll burn more calories in less time.

You're doing the wrong exercises

Doing crunches until the cows come home? Stop it! When you're down to your final inches of belly fat, the dreaded crunch won't be the exercise that finally reveals your six-pack.

"You can't spot reduce," Jill said.

Instead, she suggests doing functional exercises that use the muscles in your core—abdominals, back, pelvic, obliques—as well as other body parts.

"These exercises use more muscles, so there is a higher rate of calorie burn while you are doing them," she said.

Planks are her favorite functional exercise—they activate not just your core muscles but also your arm, leg, and butt muscles.

You're stressed

Tight deadlines, bills, your kids—whatever your source of stress, having too much of it may make it harder for you to drop unwanted pounds, especially from your middle. And it's not just because you tend to reach for high-fat, high-calorie fare when you're stressed, though that's part of it. It's also due to the stress hormone cortisol, which may increase the amount of fat your body clings to and enlarge your fat cells. Higher levels of cortisol have been linked to more visceral fat.

Health.com: 25 Surprising Ways Stress Affects Your Health

You're skipping on sleep

If you're among the 30 percent of Americans who sleep less than six hours a night, here's one simple way to whittle your waistline: catch more Zs. A 16-year study of almost 70,000 women found that those who slept five hours or less a night were 30 percent more likely to gain 30 or more pounds than those who slept 7 hours. The National Institutes of Health suggest adults sleep seven to eight hours a night.

You're apple shaped

If you tend to pack the pounds around your middle rather than your hips and thighs, then you're apple shaped. This genetic predisposition means ridding yourself of belly fat will be harder, Kashyap said, but not impossible.

You're sick

If your testosterone levels are high—something that can occur with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)—you might have difficulty losing weight. "
If you're an apple shape and overweight, it's a good idea to see your doctor," Kashyap said, since there may also be a chance that you are prediabetic or diabetic.

You're unmotivated

Are you committed to the work needed to lose belly fat?

"Reducing belly fat takes a combination approach of a low-calorie diet that is high in fiber and low in carbohydrates and sugar along with cardiovascular and weight training," Kashyap said. "If you are willing to do the work, you can move past genetics and lose it."

PoliticsThe Interview: US Cinemas To Screen Sony Film On Christmas Day after SONY HACK by marycoolrose(op):
The North Korea comedy film that had its Christmas Day launch cancelled after a major cyber attack and threats against US cinema-goers is now to get a limited theatrical release, Sony says.
The Interview will be shown in some independent US cinemas on Thursday.
Sony Chairman Michael Lynton said he was "excited" that the comedy, about a plot to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, would now be seen.
Two cinemas in Atlanta and Austin have already revealed screenings.
They said via social media that Sony Pictures had authorised them to show the film, which has been at the centre of escalating tensions between the US and North Korea.
"Breaking news," tweeted Tim League, founder of the Alamo Drafthouse cinema in Austin.
"Sony has authorized screenings of THE INTERVIEW on Christmas Day. We are making shows available within the hour."
The development was welcomed by the film's director Seth Rogen.
He tweeted: "The people have spoken! Freedom has prevailed! Sony didn't give up!"
Sony's decision came hours after North Korea saw its domestic "intranet" and connections to the wider internet effectively shut down for 10 hours.
The US has blamed North Korea for the Sony hack, which has led to sensitive data and unreleased film material being leaked.
President Obama has vowed to respond, but US officials declined to comment on who might have been responsible for the North Korea shutdown.

He can rear goats and sheep'

FamilyHow To Discipline A Very Stubborn Child...works Like Magic by marycoolrose(op): 8:47pm On Dec 20, 2014
Instead of treating children badly especially when they are acting their age. Let's do it this way;
1. Observe a Stubborn Child

2. Stay calm. When you respond to stubbornness with anger or yelling, you are reinforcing the child's belief that negative behaviors work.

3. Watch how your child is acting. He may be refusing to do something or will continue doing something after you have told him not to.
Determine what is making the child uncomfortable or resistant. Child development experts believe children become stubborn when they are stressed or tense and they do not know a socially acceptable way to express those feelings.

4. Remove the child from the situation. This might be a public place, where you child is refusing to observe rules or the dinner table, where she is not using proper manners or is refusing to eat.
Give your child time to calm down. Once she is removed from the situation that brought on the stubborn behavior, you will have an opportunity to understand the real problem.

5. Listen to your child
. Sometimes, instead of tricks or strategies, you just need to communicate.
Remember that one cause of stubborn behavior can be that the child desires more attention from his parent. Give your child the time he needs to talk to you about what might be causing problems or anxieties.

6. Discipline with patience and affection. Children need to feel safe and loved, even when they are in trouble.
Create a peaceful environment at home. If there is a lot of yelling, arguing or threatening, a child will adapt to it and become more stubborn.

7. Make positive behavior a privilege
. For a child who refuses to do chores, try something like "would you like to help me put the laundry in?" Or, "if you are a good listener today, I will let you set the table for dinner."

8. Demonstrate reward. Instead of saying "you cannot ride your bike until you put on a helmet" try "as soon as you put on your helmet, you get to ride your bike."

9. Provide options out of stubborn behavior. If your child refuses to go to bed, instead of fighting it, offer several different options and your child can choose one.
Set the scene for cooperation. Instead of announcing it is bedtime, say "It's 8:00. Do you want to read a book first, sing a song or have a cuddle?" This alerts the child to the fact that it is bedtime while offering enjoyable things to do as he gets there.

HealthStudies Show US Is The Cause Of The Current Ebola Outbreak In West Africa by marycoolrose(op): 6:56pm On Oct 18, 2014
Dr. Cyril Broderick, A Liberian scientist and a former professor of Plant Pathology at the University of Liberia’s College of Agriculture and Forestry says the West, particularly the U.S. is responsible for the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. Dr. Broderick claims the following in an exclusive article published in the Daily Observer based in Monrovia, Liberia. He wrote the following:

The US Department of Defense (DoD) is funding Ebola trials on humans, trials which started just weeks before the Ebola outbreak in Guinea and Sierra Leone. The reports continue and state that the DoD gave a contract worth $140 million dollars to Tekmira, a Canadian pharmaceutical company, to conduct Ebola research. This research work involved injecting and infusing healthy humans with the deadly Ebola virus. Hence, the DoD is listed as a collaborator in a “First in Human” Ebola clinical trial (NCT02041715, which started in January 2014 shortly before an Ebola epidemic was declared in West Africa in March.

Is it possible that the United States Department of Defense (DOD) and other Western countries are directly responsible for infecting Africans with the Ebola virus? Dr. Broderick claims that the U.S. government has a research laboratory located in a town called Kenema in Sierra Leone that studies what he calls “viral fever bioterrorism”, It is also the town where he acknowledges that is the “epicentre of the Ebola outbreak in West Africa.” Is it a fact? Is Dr. Broderick a conspiracy theorist? He says that “there is urgent need for affirmative action in protecting the less affluent of poorer countries, especially African citizens, whose countries are not as scientifically and industrially endowed as the United States and most Western countries, sources of most viral or bacterial GMOs that are strategically designed as biological weapons.” He also asks an important question when he says “It is most disturbing that the U. S. Government has been operating a viral hemorrhagic fever bioterrorism research laboratory in Sierra Leone. Are there others?”
