NwaNimo1: The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, ESWAMA, Mrs Amaka Anajemba - Hold on, hold on - is this not that 419 woman who had her husband killed when she found out he was to remarry due her not producing any male heir
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A court in Nigeria has sentenced a woman to two and a half years in prison for her part in the country's biggest ever international fraud case. Amaka Anajemba admitted helping her late husband to persuade an employee of a Brazilian bank to transfer millions of dollars into overseas accounts.
Banco Noroeste lost $242m through the latter half of the 1990s.
The court ordered Anajemba to surrender her houses in Nigeria, the US, UK and Switzerland to help repay the money.
Massive investigation
Anajemba is one of three suspects - the trial of the two other defendants has been adjourned until September.
She was convicted of convincing a senior official at Banco Noroeste, based in Sao Paulo, to siphon off the hundreds of millions of dollars in exchange for a promised $13m kickback on a fictitious contract for an airport in the Nigerian capital, Abuja.
The prosecution case was built up after an international investigation involving the authorities of more than a dozen countries.
The fraud was discovered in 1998 when Banco Noroeste was bought by a Spanish bank.
The Brazilian bank official, the company's head of international operations, was arrested three years ago during a trip to the US and extradited to Switzerland, where he was jailed for more than a year.
Widespread corruption
Most of the funds have since been recovered.
The judgement has been greeted enthusiastically by Nigeria's Economic and Financial Crimes Commission which described it as a landmark achievement.
The BBC's Anna Borzello in Nigeria's commercial capital Lagos says that the country is notorious for its advance fee frauds.
Known as four-one-nines after the Nigerian criminal code prohibiting such practices, greedy or gullible investors are invited to hand over money or bank account details on the promise of large future payments, which never arrive.
In its most common form unsolicited e-mails offer the recipient a share of the wealth of dead African dictators. Who your comment epp abeg? |

Excuzeme: You are not only IGNORANT, YOU are also SHORT-SIGHTED.
You are the one that declared the Man to be ILLEGITIMATE but you should know that 'legitimacy' is not just said off-hand. IT IS PROVEN! Even the dead man, were he to be alive, cannot deny responsibility, if a DNA test shows that the said male child is his biological son.
The Customary Court is still subject to the constitution of Nigeria (correct me if l am wrong) and cases like this can go as far as the Supreme Court! (Someone here has quoted you a case where the Supreme Court made a declaration on 'Inheritance by female Child'. so you know l am right). Litigants are always open to the right of Appeal, to the highest Court of the land.
So, let us assume the said male child (whom you classed as illegitimate) decides he will fight this to the highest court in the land, do you in your warped thinking, think that the 'Law Courts' would make such pronunciation, based on heresay, or based on scientific DNA EVIDENCE that the child is borne by the deceased man? DNA Tests are in use in our Law Courts in Nigeria, as l type this.
Are you also ignorant that 'publicly acknowledged statements' (even on Social media) can be presented as evidence in the Law Courts such that those who made them are held accountable to what they have said?
I dont usually 'do ignorant people' LIKE YOU but l am doing this as my own contribution to charity and public service less some ignorant person like you mislead the Op and others to the point when you will suddenly back-off!
And please, STOP threatening! You cant do more than rant online, biiko. You don't get the gist of the case, because you sound just like the bastard that came to usurp the inheritance of others. |
Family › Re: The Son My Late Dad Had Out Of Wedlock Locked My Mum Out Of Our House, Pls Advis by MasterofdRolls1(m): 2:15pm On Jul 28, 2016 |
Excuzeme: STFU!
Let me ask you (If you read what the Op wrote): Was the Man, all this while, a Houseboy when he was living with the, when the father was alive? That they are biological siblings, have been established by the Op. Period.
The Op's mother was also not married LEGALLY (just traditionally) so between the two women, there is not much difference!.
Only a DNA Test establishes PATERNITY, not some rubbish you are saying up there.
Calm down and use your head before giving advice She said the parent were married traditionally and religiously, under the law they are married traditionally under the customary law of their place, which still gives her the right to inherit the fathers estate. Traditionally married couple, when issue arise are settled in the Customary Court of their place.... Religiously married, that is Church wedding is thesame as marriage under the Marriage Act, if the church is a licensed place of worship or that they went to sign the marriage register at their local government or court and obtained a certificate as stated in the Act, therefore making the parties seek redress in a High Court if any issue arises. The issue of DNA test as i told you is out of the picture because the father is deceased, and no sibling of the Op will agree to the test, unless compelled by the court. The Op said that they grew up together, but didn't know the boy was their fathers son. Your disposition on his legitimacy is flawed because the op's father never wedded the boys mother in any of the manners stated above. Read with understanding and mind you language with me. |
Family › Re: The Son My Late Dad Had Out Of Wedlock Locked My Mum Out Of Our House, Pls Advis by MasterofdRolls1(m): 2:00pm On Jul 28, 2016 |
Excuzeme: Please QUOTE this LAW you are referring to!
I dont think you have heard of the phrase: DNA TEST, before? Even the Op acknowledges that they are 'biological siblings', and you are here saying nonsense?
Some of you speak so much ignorance, with so much gusto! I wont join issues with you, because DNA issue is out of the play, a Customary Court has no business with that, they determine the issue before them according to the customs and traditions of the locality they are, and if the law says that a child had outside wedlock has no right to inheritance, so is it, no two ways about it. This is not the US where they will exhume the corpse to carry out a DNA test. She acknowledged it here, does no mean she will do so in court, what a litigant pleads in her pleadings, is what the Court is bound by, unless other issues originates. And please have some decorum, mind your language when quoting me. I won't be lenient next time. |
Family › Re: The Son My Late Dad Had Out Of Wedlock Locked My Mum Out Of Our House, Pls Advis by MasterofdRolls1(m): 1:51pm On Jul 28, 2016 |
NwaEzefuNaMba: @OP go and make peace with your step brother! The day you let outsiders to settle family dispute is the day you split your family.
If it's in Igbo land, no court, no lawyers whatsoever can settle this particular issue; it's all about mutual understanding and co-operation. Who told you what you just said? Similar cases like this are In many customary Courts around igbo land, when the chips are down, what the Court will consider, is, does the young man have the right to lay claim to be the Father's estate? |
Family › Re: The Son My Late Dad Had Out Of Wedlock Locked My Mum Out Of Our House, Pls Advis by MasterofdRolls1(m): 1:48pm On Jul 28, 2016 |
Onyenna: GBAM! Right of inheritance to an estate is not thesame in the whole of Igbo land, it varies according to the customs and traditions of each community. Get your facts straight, the man is a bastard under the law, because his mother was not married and he was not acknowledged by the father in public, to legitimize him. |
