ProgrammingRe: How Much Programming Knowledge Can I Amass In 3 Months? by MaxCray: 9:41pm On Mar 17, 2022

Someone asked a simple question and u coding expert are already feeling like one kind yeye God and trashing him like he won't be able to write a simple program if he put in much effort just like he outlined in the post.

You guys always making this coding thing sound like it's for one particular set of people(aliens)... Give him hope not trash his hope.

Nawa for una sef....

Yes we learn everyday, d I.T world is large.. things change but stop saying it like he has to, or you guys took 15yrs to become good or better in a particular field or programming language. undecided
Don't mind them. You will ask a simple question, and they will come and start making it seem like it's rocket science.
I was asking one the other day if I could dedicate two hours to learn everyday, because I had other work taking my time at the moment, only for the guy to arrogantly reply saying I should leave programming, that it's not for me, talking about how you must code from 5am to 1pm without taking a break. Smh

In our realm two hours is just chicken change....It isn't enough... One must have the balls to sit in front of a computer screen at a stretch of at least 4 hours until it becomes part of you and before you know with you will find yourself working on the computer from 5am to 1pm and you won't even feel like time has passed....
I have other things taking my time

It won't, but when you get a laptop it won't be like your starting from scratch; you'll already know and can talk about some topics.

It's a good way to start even if you got a laptop because it helps to get your hands dirty and make writing codes a hobby.
Wow. I love this advice. I am installing the App now. Though I have a laptop, I have not been disciplined enough to make out time to learn everyday. But I'm always with my phone. So, maybe it will be easier to cultivate the habit if I start on phone.

Being Self taught is quite a feat in our realm, you too can toe that path...Just like Neo in the Matrix or being a redpiller in today's world when you're self taught you can do anything, be anything or you can be everything....All it takes is to understand the concept behind every tech or programming language...
If I dedicate 2hrs of learning every day, will that be okay? I'm a complete newbie looking to learn fullstack dev

I'm about starting too. I'm trying to gather study materials. Please, which courses/materials did you use to learn HTML?

This is plain facts. Even senior devs still spend crazy amount of time in front of their computers. Remove the very good pay, programming is serious manual labor.
You are cracking me up grin

I understand being mentioned here.
The truth here is that decision to move in to a field can be relative.
I started as a web developer because I already knew it wasn’t easy to just start a role as a data scientist or analyst then. My aim then was get funds that will keep me going. Back then it was extremely easy to land a web developer role even if it’s small JS, CSS and html compared to data role. However during those periods data analyst or science role were few with few individuals. Compare that to now. My advice will be to learn basics of web dev before moving to data role. The reason being that you have funds to survive while learning data.
However if advising anyone on software, I will ask the person to narrow it down to blockchain technology because that’s the future and we are already in it.
For Nigerian space, there are always software role for any newbies coming to tech compared to data.
If your focus is abroad then data science/analytics is for you.
Another big disadvantage with software dev is the growth prospect. You don’t partake in management decisions which someone in data has that edge.
To me, data is integral but software is eating it
All right... Thanks for the insight boss

Yea it is free, but you have to apply. Even if you aren't taken it doesn't matter you can still get access to the videos and assignments. The difference is those chosen will be in real-time as classes go on and can ask questions as well.

I don't know why people are too lazy to make research. Everything he needs to know is on Nairaland but still decide to open thread for it. Another person will surely ask the same question before month end.
So, you just assumed one is lazy because one opened a thread to ask a very relevant question? That's shallow thinking on your path.
What made you think I haven't read through Nairaland and beyond concerning this?
I have. However, I would like to get MORE current thoughts and insights concerning this from bosses and newbies alike. It's not bad to ask the same question that has been asked before again because the IT world is dynamic.

Thank you.

I choose Data Science but I don't know nor like math and stats
I think you can still learn it as you don't have to be a math guru to be good at data science.

GideonG:
I can coach you to learn Python and Data Analysis in 3months, then Machine learning and Data science in another 3 months making you confident in your self in Data science and artificial intelligence in 6months. But you must be serious, and have atleast half of my enthusiasm or be in harmony to be contagion. We can do it virtually anywhere you are, I can do it for free but there's only one problem at the moment, as a final year student of B.tech Computer Science ( even though i studied Petroleum engineering over a decade ago). My computer is currently damaged and I have to get a new one of which I have to partake in a Machine learning competition to win a prize for me to acquire a system like around 75k, so follow the advice of that guy that Mentioned Data Analysis, Data is the new oil now and the sexiest job of the century. And why would you limit your self to Analysis while you can be a Data scientist to enhance your value? Start learning Python immediately, we will meet along the way, by then I must have been more professional through my participation in online competitions called kaggle.com you should register at kaggle too, employers check your points in this field through kaggle, that's one of a great idea to get jobs in Data science and artificial intelligence. I wish you the best, until I got system make your personal effort to learn.
Hello,

Please, can I tag along with you in your Data Science Journey? I know nothing about it and I intend picking up the skill next year.
