GMBuhari:Very interesting proposition |
Very valid point |
Revelations have emerged on how Vodafone United Kingdom, Europe’s largest mobile operator lost the opportunity to acquire Digital Mobile Licence (DML) to provide Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) service in Nigeria on a platter of gold for $1 offered to it by former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Mr Tony Ojobo, director, Public Affairs, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), who represented the executive vice chairman of NCC, Professor Umar Danbatta, at the Fourth Commonwealth Public Relations Congress on the topic: “Stakeholder Management Practice In The Telecommunications Industry,” said Vodafone lost the opportunity to operate in Nigeria’s telecommunications market. Narrating what governor of Kaduna State, Mallam El Rufai, who was among the Nigerian delegation at the just-concluded Telecom World 2016, organised in Bangkok, Thailand, told them about Vodafone’s underating of the market, he said, it was an opportunity that could never be regained. Ojobo said, “Governor el Rufai told us at the ITU conference how when he was the director-general of the Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE), former President Olusegun Obasanjo, led a foreign investment drive to United Kingdom and met with the top echelons of Vodafone. “President Obasanjo wanted Vodafone to provide competition to Nigerian Telecommunications Limited ( NITEL). He told the Vodafone executives to come to Nigeria and the government was ready to give it Digital Mobile Licence (DML) to provide mobile telephony for $1 only. This was aimed at attracting international telecommunications operating companies to Nigeria and show that Nigeria’s environment was investment friendly. “What Vodafone told President Obasanjo was shocking. http://leadership.ng/business/560893/how-vodafone-lost-opportunity-to-acquire-nigerias-gsm-licence-for-1-ncc |

hope4life:So you seriously think words that are not expressly stated in a document should be assumed or read into it? Wow! I refuse to enter the ring with you. |
sammhi:I don't blame the President for these errors as he is not ordinarily expected to proof-read for grammatical errors. It's not even his specialization. However, we have hordes of media aides and writers in the Presidency. Those are the people I blame!!! |
[quote author=sanky346 post=50583659]Who English don help? Is it our mother tongue? The most important thing is for the receiver to be able to decode the message sent by the encoder. If you have chosen a language as an official means of communication, you will do well to follow the rules of that language, lest you make yourself a laughing stock. English helps... that's why it is compulsorily taught at kindergarten, primary and secondary stages of education. |
It's embarrassing to spot grammatical errors in letters or documents signed by the President and other high ranking Govt. officials. What manner of staff are in our high places? What happened to proof-reading? Error 1 Line 3, paragraph 1 - 'calls for celebrations' The English rule is that singular verbs are used with singular nouns and vice versa. In this case, 'calls' is a singular verb wrongly used with a plural noun 'celebrations'. The right construction should be 'call for celebrations'. Error 2 Line 1, paragraph 3 I pray that 'Allah continue' to Allah is a singular noun and should be followed by a singular verb 'continues'. The right construction here should be 'Allah continues'... The repeated error makes it seem like this is not a typo, but rather a lack of understanding of the rules of concord. We need the best people in high places! |
