An explosive device was this morning discovered at the NYSC Camp, Sokoto. Initial reports indicate that the bomb was planted by a man dressed in military fatigue. Vigilant corp members who saw the bomber raised the alarm and the entire camp was thrown into pandemonium. Soldiers are presently combing all hostels and environs in a bid to apprehend the culprit. All soldiers have been assembled but the culprit was not identified by witnesses. [i]This information is from a corp member in Sokoto Camp at the moment. |
I will take what OP means to be conversations that are intellectually stimulating and beneficial, not the usual stories or gossips of whats going on with so and so person. Very few ladies read the papers, use the net for research and stuff like that. And if they have a blackberry they mostly ping with it! Imagine starting professional conversations like latest IFRS standards, IT, world politics and finance, etc... they just go dumb. But start one on fashion... you know the rest! I have met some rather interesting ladies though and we are friends for life. |

Sirmuell:The solution to the poo in the civil service is for FG to do a massive retrenchment of all redundant workers and introduce proper performance appraisals. But will the NLC/TUC ever let that happen? Yet everyone blames GEJ. All the threats of OBJ to trim the civil service ended at the level of threats. Lets tell ourselves the truth jo! We are our own problem! |
El'rufai Accuses President Jonathan of Partnering With Boko Haram Controversial Former minister of the FCT, Malam Nasir El'rufai has accused the President of being in partnership with Boko Haram. He made the allegation today on his twitter profile (see tweet below). This will not be the first time that Malam El'rufai will accuse the government of being in partnership with Boko Haram. In an interview in January with the Sun Newspapers entitled 'BOKO HARAM, [LINK=/news/boko-haram-nigerians-made-a-mistake-not-electing-buhari-el-rufai]Nigerians made a mistake not electing Buhari – El-Rufai[/LINK]', the controversial former minister said "According to the former Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises, “there are forces within the government and outside the government collaborating to throw this country into crisis. I do not believe that some of these things in the name of Boko Haram and so on and so forth are (done by) Boko Haram. Nobody knows really whether Boko Haram is from the North or from anywhere. Nobody knows for sure, because their leaders were killed. Now, anybody can come to my house and plant bomb and say it is Boko Haram, A few days ago, I saw on the internet pictures of some people covering their faces, wearing jeans and saying they are Boko Haram; that Southerners should leave the North. I am sure that those people are not Boko Haram. Boko Haram people don’t wear jeans. They wear kaftan… I believe that beyond Boko Haram, which is a metaphor for dissatisfaction with the state, there is something going on.” But interestingly, the same El'rufai who accused the President of collaborating with Boko Haram had also few months back, asked the same President to dialogue with Boko Haram http://www.naijapundit.com/news/el-rufai-accuses-president-jonathan-of-partnering-with-boko-haram
Is the bolded quote not proof that El'Rufai knows who the Boko boys are? Note that I know Hausa/Fulani Muslims that wear jeans. |
dokkyelele:Is the change of name compulsory? In Nigerian Law, the certficate of marriage is sufficient proof of marriage without more. |
werepeLeri:SAWDUST! |
maxxy:Any ideas anyone? |
My wife will be serving in this next Batch A. At what point does she need to present her marriage certificate so that she can be posted to where I am (Lagos) and what other documents may be required? |
Atigba:Back then in AAU, I lost my only birthday mate, a 400L Microbiology student. In a chat with her doctor when we went to the mortuary to collect her corpse for burial, it was amazing to hear him give figures of the deaths due to lassa and that it was even curable if the drugs were available. In my friend's case, the hospital did not have the drug in stock, and this was supposed to be a specialist/teaching hospital (Irrua). Thank God the Govt has finally woken up! |
If it sounds too good to be true and looks too good to be true, then its most probably too good to be true! |
Thanks all. I will be leaving things as they are. Many thanks again. |
norrisman:Its very easy to blame the authorities everytime, but I tell you that this time around, no authority anywhere could have done much to save the situation. The rain started at 7.10am and if you know 3rd mainland Bridge on a typical Monday morning, the bridge was already jammed with traffic. So closing the bridge would achieve little or nothing. Winds at such velocity are unprecedented and folks are only now wiser. I was past the Ebute Metta end of the bridge heading to the Island when the rain started, and interestingly, by the time I got to Obalende, it had practically stopped. So all and all, it was a quick and unprecedented event. |
Fhemmmy:Seriously, is there a problem with posting the account number? I see that the same omission exists in all other threads. In these days of internet banking, its quite easy to do a transfer to the account without needing to put up your email here for the spamists to have a jolly time with. I want to do a transfer thats why am making this observation and not a mockery of your efforts. |
Siena:The CEL light, ABS, and others light up with the ignition on and go off thereafter. Will I save fuel cruising at 65mph? Though opportunities to do that are few in Lagos. |
@ gulfer - calculation was determined as follows: bought stated fuel from when the check gauge (low fuel) light came on and drove until it came back on. |
@ platinumricky - Am using this car in Lagos and Lagos traffic is generally 'stop and go' from Lagos Island to Mainland. You should check out 3rd Mainland Bridge and Agege Motor Rd (my daily route) between 5pm and 8pm every evening. @ Siena 'da expat' - if my car is already doing great (as fueleconomy.gov also supports), do I need to replace the catalytic converter? Does it have other benefits aside reducing fuel consumption? My car should have two converters attached to the exhaust system, and according to the technical guy, both are absent. |
I drive a 2000 Ford Explorer (6 cyl, 4.0 L, Automatic 5-spd) that I think is not fuel efficient. This is because the Mechanic says that my catalytic converters have been removed and am therefore burning fuel more than necessary, so I decided to do a test of the MPG (miles per gallon) in order to determine whether to replace the converters. Results indicate that on the average, 2.5 gallons (9.5 litres) gives me 54 miles, which is approximately 21.5 MPG. This is driving within Lagos (Mainland to Island) in traffic I would consider fair. Other specs include driving at maximum of 70km/hr and without AC. Is this fuel consumption fair? Where are the gurus pls? |
whiteroses:If she chose Business Law, she still cannot attend the Nigerian Law School or practice Law in Nigeria. To do any of that, she must hold an LL.B from a recognised Commonwealth University. |
I need catalytic converter for my ford explorer 99/2000. Pls advise the variants and prices. Attend urgently. |
Am planning my registry marriage and wondering whether embassies have preference for marriage registries when it comes to weight placed on marriage certificate. Here in Lagos, I keep hearing that Ikoyi Registry is the place to do it, whereas I have another registry close to my residence in another part of Lagos. Am not planning on travelling right now; just thinking about the travels my family will make in about a year or two. Pls advise. |
I saw the last 1 hour of the Presidential Debate yesterday, and must say I am quite disappointed at the various candidates. Only Shekarau performed marginally well and presented some concrete plans. One would have thought that these candidates would take this opportunity to present their concrete plans to bring Nigeria out of the woods, but all they did for half of the time was to insult PDP and then use rhetoric to confuse issues. That Nigeria needs to move forward is not news, but we need to hear how these people intend to implement all the wonderful promises they are making. Hear excerpts of their responses to various issues: How will you tackle Corruption? Buhari - The process is corrupt and the people are also corrupt. The process will be changed such that subordinates will not keep quiet when Oga is "chopping'' (how he will achieve that he did not say). The national treasury is a trust and he will not allow anyone to eat out of it and go scotfree (rhetoric). Ribadu Disagreed with Buhari that the people are corrupt, but rather that it is the system that is corrupt (coming from Ribadu, acclaimed anti-corruption Czar, it was such a brainless statement that the audience shouted him down. We all know Nigerians are corrupt and that corruption has eaten into the fabric of our society, both public and private. So disappointing that Ribadu presented no concrete plan to fight corruption). Shekarau - We will enlighten the public and preach the anti-corruption message (so brainless nobody knew that when he was through). HOW WILL YOU TACKLE THE JOS AND BORNO CRISIS Buhari Grazing reserves will be created for cattle as nomads move from place to place in search of pasture (This is crap. The issues in Jos have gone beyond grazing rights. It is now political and religious. The indigene/settler issue needs to be resolved) Shekarau I will replicate what I did in Kano, such that there has been no violence for 8 years. I will pursue integration and inclusive Govt such as including all groups in Govt as I have done in Kano (This was his best point of the day and he was rewarded with a thundering applause, because he really made sense on this point). Ribadu We need to promote justice and equity, The Boko Haram people that are saying western education is evil are not attacking schools, showing that there's more to the issues at stake (Am sure Ribadu did not think this through). WHY SHOULD WE VOTE FOR YOU AND NOT OTHERS The responses were so crappy I could not find anything meaningful to extract. Only Ribadu said he represents the aspiration of Nigerians, that he is young (impliedly not old as Buhari) and not a local or state person (like Shekarau), but that he is a federal person with national and international clout (more rhetorics). CLOSING STATEMENTS This is the most crappy use of closing statements. At this stage, a candidate should sum up all he has earlier said, with a goal of leaving us at a high point! All the candidates failed to achieve this. The moderator had to remind Buhari that he still had time and should keep talking, but the General just kept saying we should go out and vote and then defend our vote. Ribadu made a little sense, but he had this penchant of speaking beyond allotted time that the moderator had to remind him twice to stick to the terms of the agreement they all signed (quite embarassing in my opinion). LAST WORD ON THE DEBATE The debate failed to achieve much. The day went to Shekarau, though the presentation of all the candidates was well below par. |

kenuoyibo:As I was meditating about you, God said to me to tell you that He has saved you severally because there is something He specifically designed for you to achieve, and though your much vacillation has delayed many things, His arms are still wide open towards you because He is still able to bring to pass what He has said. He said He has shown you specific pictures in times past of the path that you would follow and He is still calling you to tow that path because if you would take one step towards Him, you would find that He has always been there with arms open wide. |
The Christian walk is the most beautiful experience on this side of heaven. In the 18 years that I have been saved, I have not seen anything sweeter, more pleasurable and exciting. It is a walk of glory to glory, and that really is God's plan. However, it's also a terrain not free of challenges. But this is the confidence I have - that ALL things work together for good. Nevertheless, many of us need support, as so many have expressed in this thread. But this support can be so hard to find because people can be so judgemental, forgetting that we serve a God that FORGIVES MUCH!. But in here we can easily bare our minds because of the anonymity that comes with it. Therefore I volunteer my support to you, knowing that God started this thread to help someone in need. I am available to offer counsel, answer questions, share your aches, provide guidance and stand by you in this walk of faith, while guaranteeing your anonimity and confidentiality. The blessing of God is upon you. Maxwell is a Pastor, Lawyer and Banker. He lives in Lagos with his lovely wife whom he fondly calls Princess. He can be reached on greatmaxwell@gmail.com |
I have come to understand that people generally criticize things they don't understand. My first experience of somebody falling while am praying was sometime in 2000, and I was not even a pastor! As I began to pray for the person, the next thing I knew was that the person was flat on the floor, not because of demon possession but as a result of the wave of God's power that overwhelmed that person, as falling is not necessarily a sign of demon possession. Granted that some folks tend to push the one they are praying for, it doesnt mean that's what happens everytime because some people are blown upon and you see them responding by falling. And I can bet that so long as what's on your mind is "I will not fall/the pastor is pushing me" you are already too distracted to focus on God, and therefore will not fall. Falling is scriptural, it happened in the old testament and even Jesus had it in His ministry. So the next time you are being prayed for, forget about whether or not you will fall. Focus on God and on His power that is present, because when the chips are down, that's all that matters. |
LAGOS— AN EIGHT man robbery gang, including a lady, yesterday invaded a Redeemed Christian Church of God, The Hope Centre, Amuwo Odofin, in the Mile 2 area of Lagos State. The gun-wielding robbers, who came to the church at about 8.25a.m. in motorcycles, succeeded in robbing the early morning worshippers of money, telephone sets and jewelries. A source told newsmen: “They came in as if for early morning worship. But as soon as they gained entrance into the church they ordered all the worshippers to lie face down and hand in their money, phones and jewelries.” Contacted, the Lagos police spokesman, Mr. Frank Mba, a Superintendent of Police, confirmed the incident. Mba said that as soon as they arrived, a distress call came to the Festac Town Police Station, which sent its men, led by the DPO, ASP Usman, to the church immediately, stressing that the suspected robbers unfortunately left before the police got there. He said: “Our men recovered some items belonging to the suspects, which fell off from them. The items will help the police to trail them. “They collected about 30 handsets and various sums of money from worshippers they met in the church. We use this medium to advise religious groups, particularly the church, to beware of fake members.” SOURCE - Vanguard Newspapers 22/11/2010 - Pg 13 |
I was having this chat with my friends the other day (both are single female lawyers) and we touched upon this issue. Both categorically stated that they have told their guys that they will not do their laundry now, or when they get married. I see nothing wrong with that while they are still single, but married?!!!! According to them, all clothes (including boxers) must go to the drycleaners and paid for by the man, or he should wash them himself! I intially thought they were joking, but their insistence got me thinking. Is this a product of the wind of feminism blowing across the land, or do we assume too much when we expect our wives to arrange for our laundry to be done? |
Though am not a Police basher, the true facts of this matter is hilarious. The guy was arrested as he was taking pictures of the named officers as they were collecting their usual egunje from motorists, and that appears to me to be something within the powers of a private citizen to do (collecting and preserving evidence of criminal activity). On the day of his arraignment in court, even the magistrate couldn't help smirking at the second charge of assault against the Americana ie assaulting two police officers who were fully armed. Mind you, the assault was not that he took their pictures, but that he was beating up the officers. I pity the guy for the welcome ceremony put together by the NPF, and he may actually miss his chance for Law School because of the 'fit and proper rule' (lawyers will understand). |
