There is no standard measurement to determine which is more expensive(Supposing we leave out demand and supply).

now if you bring D&S into the picture:

If society perceives the cow to be much more valuable than yam then you could exchange your cows for more tubbers of yam.

However, lets say we are in a society where they don't value meat. My yam would now be more expensive than the cow.
Because people have more "faith" in yam than cows.

But thats not even a good example as demand and supply could be used as measurement. What about between water and diamonds.

Diamonds is not in demand like water but water is far cheaper. Even though people have no use for diamonds bar Aesthetic value, they are willing to pay huge amounts of resources for it. Thats faith.
