The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi, has told Nigerians that the national drivers licence costs only N6,350. He urged citizens to report any personnel of FRSC that demands above the official. The Corps Marshal of the FRSC also warned against obtaining the driver’s licence by proxy and advised prospective applicants to obtain the document through due process. He gave the warning at a one-day workshop organised for the Corps Heads of Driving License Centres. “Drivers licence document could be obtained with only N6, 350, applicants are advised to report any personnel of the corps who demanded more than the amount,” he said. He then stated that: “There will be no more collection of driver’s licence by proxy; prospective applicants will have to come by themselves and be captured to avoid obtaining fake license. “Also, fresh applicants must obtain permit from an approved driving school and undergo all necessary processes before they will be issued the document,” Oyeyemi said. He said the issue of integrity of driver’s licence was raised when the corps visited the National Assembly recently, assuring that the corps was poised to tackle the issue of fake licence. According to Oyeyemi, the workshop is to review the first quarter operations of the corps and address the issue of driver’s licence. He said the corps, for the first time, recorded lowest cases of road traffic accidents during the Easter. He attributed this to adequate deployment of personnel and equipment during the period. Oyeyemi advised motorists and other road users to continue to collaborate with the commission in efforts to reduce road crashes. http://wazobiadiary.com/dont-pay-any-personnel-more-that-n6350-for-drivers-licence-frsc-boss/

A 13-foot python was killed in a building close to a male hostel at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) in Awka, the Anambra State capital, last Saturday. Worried by the development, students are calling on the management to ensure their safety. VICTOR OGBUAGU reports. Fear. Trepidation. Excitement. These captured the mood at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) in Awka, the Anambra State capital, last Saturday when a python was killed in an uncompleted building close to a male hall of residence. Being a weekend, majority of the students had gone out for extra-curricula activities; some chose to play football; others engaged in other games. Few minutes past 9am, an unidentified man raised the alarm on sighting the python. Those in their hostels thought it was a joke, until the python crawled out of the building. Students ran helter skelter on seeing it. A local hunter, who lives in the building, chased the python with a cutlass, battling it for several minutes before overpowering it. Students, who watched the scene from a distance, were stunned by his bravery. The brave among them joined the hunter to kill the python. The students took the lifeless animal round the campus in a triumphant mood. As they went round, some students, out of fear that the python may come back to life, pulled back. Reliving the incident, the hunter, who simply gave his name as Okey, said he found the python when he heard a strange noise in the building. He said: “Out of curiosity, I moved round the building to know what was happening. I initially thought somebody was held in captivity within the building. But, what I saw was beyond my imagination. I saw the snake folded at a corner of a room. I quickly fetched my cutlass and an iron rod and moved to attack it before the students joined in killing it.” The students wondered how the animal got into the campus. A student, who gave his name as Iyke, compared the scenario to a “movie scene”. He said: “I was playing football with other mates as we do every weekend when we heard people shouting, “python”, “python”, “python”. We left the field to see what was going on and what we saw shocked us. It was like a scene in a movie. I never saw a snake as big and long as this. The length of the snake frightened other students, who ran away. We discovered that the hunter had already overpowered the python. We joined in killing the snake.” Another student, Ebuka Ezeah, said: “When the hunter raised the alarm about the python, some brave students rushed to the scene with stones and sticks. They hurled stones at the snake, killing it on the spot.” The students turned it all into a carnival, celebrating the python’s death. They sang and danced, carrying the python from one hostel to another and to various departments. There was a drama when the school security officers came to the hostel and attempted to remove the python. But the students resisted, chanting: “bring back our snake”. The snake was returned to the hunter. Some of the students, who spoke to CAMPUSLIFE, called on the school management to ensure that their safety on campus. One of them, Chuks Okafor, said: “This is not the first time we are experiencing something like this on the campus. The killing of two alligators in the hostel is still fresh in our memory. The management may have done well in protecting students against criminals; it is not just about crime. We need to be protected from dangerous animals. I expect the school management to do something about this latest python invasion.” Source & Maggi: http://thenationonlineng.net/hunter-kills-python-students-hostel/

Inspection of the new site for the propose relocation of Mile 12 Market and Oko Baba Sawmill in Imota and Agbowa town. The Lagos state governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Tuesday 12 of April, 2016 inspected the new Imota site, proposed for the relocation of the popular Mile 12 market, where he assured that work will commence on the site next week. The governor was accompanied on the inspection visit by top officials of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban and Development, the lawmaker representing Ikorodu constituency II at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Nurudeen Saka Solaja, the ranodu of Imota, Oba Ajibade Bakare-Agoro and members of the State Executive Council said the relocation of the market became necessary following the recent clash in the area, just as he directed the Ministry to move to the site and commence work on the market immediately. He however expressed optimism that the relocation will drive commerce and investment into the Imota area, urging resident to gear up to receive the vast number of visitors that will visit the market. So, our new commodities market would take off from here and so I will like to give the Ministry of Physical Planning the directives to commence activities here within the next one week. We believe that if we start within the next seven days, within the next six months, Mile 12 market Ketu will be a thing of the past. We are committed to doing this. We know it is in the interest of all Lagosians that we relocate Mile 12 Market. The marketers themselves have agreed; the onus is now on us to ensure that we deliver this new market within the next six months. "I want to appeal to the people in Imota that you will be having new set of investors; new set of traders and then new set of tenants. You should be very accommodating because we are bring a whole lot here, " he said. Governor Ambode also assured residents that the State Government will consider the possible expansion of the road network around the market and connecting the Ikorodu and Epe area, saying the relocation of the Mile 12 Market as well as the Oko Baba Sawmill Market to the axis will have multiplier effect on the Lagos economy. "We are on our way to Agbowa now. We intend to relocate Oko Baba Sawmill Market in Ebutte Metta to Agbowa and so this axis will be a big axis for commerce, for employment and then for prosperity and that is what we want for the rest of Lagos," he said. Governor Ambode also invited the Imota Processing Factory in Ikorodu Division, assured that the facility will be overhauled and be up and running within the next six months. He said the intention of his administration was to intervene and upgrade the facility to a standard that will achieve a 10,000 metric tonnes per hour production of the rice and also invited private investors to complement the intervention with an additional 10,000 metric tonnes per hour. That is the only way we can clearly said to have intervened seriously and that is the only platform we can use to allow the inflow of rice paddy from Kebbi State. You will all recall that we just signed an MoU with Kebbi State and the intention is that we want a consistent flow of raw materials so that the era of importing rice from abroad would become a thing of the past. He said aside Kebbi State, Lagos was also looking at possible partnership with other states, saying that on the long run, such collaboration will ensure that resident can consume locally processed rice within the next six months. The Governor said that a process to make the mill private sector driven will commenced immediately, adding that a vibrant infrastructure that will attract the best professionals and experts to manage the facility would be put in place. "This is a major investment and we cannot allow it to rot away. So in the next three to six months, when we come back here, we must be eating Eko rice," he said. The Governor who also invited the new site for the relocation of the Oko Baba Sawmill Market commended the contractor for the work done so far, assuring that the project will be delivered before the end of September 2016. He said the project will ensure that the Ebute Metta- Third Mainland bridge loop which is currently an eyesore will be cleaned up, saying that the traders are excited and looking forward to moving to the new site. There is no form of resentment from the traders, they are excited about this place. I am assured that before the end of September, we would have commenced operation in this place. I must commend the ministry officials also that we should remain steadfast so that this project become a reality before the end of September," he said. The lawmaker representing Ikorodu constituency II at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Nurudeen. Saka Solaja, expressed gratitude to the Governor for the proposed relocation of the Mile 12 Market to Imota, just as he urged the government to commence the project in earnest . Also speaking, the ranodu of imota, Oba Ajibade Bakare-Agoro, thank Governor Ambode for considering the area for such laudable projects, assuring that the residents will cooperate with the government to ensure the success of the projects. |

This came on a day the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, distanced itself from the decision of Justice Kafarati to decline ruling in the fundamental human rights enforcement case brought before him by Senate President. Justice Kafarati had on Tuesday, disqualified himself from the matter which was originally scheduled for judgement, owing to bribery allegation levelled against him by two online media outlets. However, Saraki, yesterday, said he was dissatisfied that the judge was blackmailed by his enemies to hands off the suit that was ripe for judgement. In a protest letter, dated March 22, which he filed before the Chief Judge of the High Court, Justice Ibrahim Auta, Saraki, through his lawyer, Prince Ajibola Oluyede, insisted that though he had sympathy for the judge, the interest of justice would only be served if the judgement was delivered. Oluyede, while speaking with journalists after the submission of the letter to the Chief Judge, yesterday, alleged that EFCC was the brain behind the publications which he said were intended to intimidate the judge. Meanwhile, the EFCC has distanced itself from the decision by Justice Abdul Kafarati of the Federal High Court, Abuja, to decline ruling in the fundamental human rights enforcement case brought before him by Senate President, Bukola Saraki. Spokesman of the agency, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, said last night that the commission had no idea of the source of the information as it did not give out same at any time. saharareporters.com/2016/03/23/senate-president-saraki-begs-billionaire-judge-deliver-judgement-suit-challenging-his |
