The announced plans of Lagos state government over the relocation of the 30 years old, biggest food and perishable goods market in west Africa, Mile 12 has not yet been fulfilled after nine months that the governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode made his intentions known to Lagosians. It will be recall that the relocation of Mile 12 market to Imota was birthed following the March crisis that engulfed the Agiliti/Maidan Orile community in Mile 12, in which many people were killed and even more wounded. A number of buildings were razed during the crisis, which led the government to close the market and impose a curfew on the area. “our new commodities market would take off from here and so I like to give the ministry of physical planning the directive to commence activities here within the next one week and the new Mile 12 market would be ready in 6months (that is, by October, 2016)", the governor said while inspecting the new site project at Imota on April 12, 2016. The governor added, “We are committed to doing this, we know it is in the interest of all Lagosians that we relocating Mile 12 Market here. The marketers themselves have agreed; the onus is now on us to ensure that we deliver this new market within the next six months.” However, following the 2017 budget of the state government, it was deduce that a sum of =N=1.5 billion has been earmarked in 2017 budget for the Mile 12 market project in which the governor during his last town hall meeting held at the Ajelogo community also reiterated his passion towards the continuation of the project soon. In an interview with Hon. Nurudeen Saka Solaja in order to know the plans of the state government over relocation of Mile 12 market to Imota, he made it known that the project has been taken care by 2017 budget and the place will surely be ready for commissioning and usage before the end of this year. Ayayo Gong gathered that what stalled the relocation of the market within six months period as promised by the state government was due to the fact that there was no much provision for the project in the 2016 Budget. According to a resident of Imota, (name witheld) said, "the proposed site has only been cleared and work have been suspended since the year 2016. The governor’s perceived silent on the project, casts a doubt in the minds of Lagosians on whether the governor have come to sell a dummy to Lagosians or he’s using the project as a bait for subsequent elections, only time will tell". Olaleye Aluko, Abuja The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has urged the Federal Government to bring Nigeria out of the throes of recession by urgently reviewing its monetary policies. Tinubu spoke on Wednesday as a guest lecturer at the National Defence College Course 25 lecture, titled, “Strategic Leadership: My Political Experiences.”He argued that Nigeria’s current inflation rate of 18 per cent was unbearable and Nigerians were suffering for it. The APC chieftain, who urged the Federal Government to “stimulate this economy,” said the decline of oil prices seemed to be a long-term phenomenon and strategic objectives must be put in place to re-engineer the economy, using the bottom-up approach. He said, “In the situation we face, deficit spending is essential to bolster aggregate demand and direct funds to projects that build infrastructure and bolster employment. We must better harmonize monetary policy with fiscal policy. It undercuts our goals if monetary policy is unduly tight at a time when fiscal policy begets deficit spending.“We must also realign trade policy with our need to create a meaningful industrial base and more potent agricultural sector. We can no longer allow cheap imports to preclude the development of industries and sectors strategic to our enduring economic future.“What am I doing if I have a billion, and you are ready to give me 180 million, that is 18 per cent upfront, do I have to work or do anything again? These are the factors they have to look at quickly to ease the monetary policy. You have to stimulate this economy, you have to spend yourself out of this recession and you cannot do that by consistently stifling the banks of liquidity. It is their money; it is their saving. We have to criticise ourselves when it is necessary, speak truth to power. We are the power, we speak truth to ourselves.“The monetary policy must be consistent with the environmental need of our domestic requirements, you cannot hold on too much or too tight to a policy.”Tinubu added that the leadership of the APC was right to criticise the Federal Government, because “when it is necessary, speak truth to the power, we arethe power, we will talk the truth to ourselves.”The APC national leader said the country would benefit more from a consistent monetary policy.“Our fiscal policy does not mesh with monetary policy. Trade policy undermines industrial policy, thus the ease of doing business is inhibited. Overseas peacekeeping missions do not always harmonise with core foreign policy interests. A nation in progress seeks to minimise, not harvest additional contradictions, otherwise its leadership strategy is doomed to fail.“Strategic objectives during this period of economic uncertainty must be to re-engineer the economy bottom up, diversify the economic base, strengthen our industrial base, modernise infrastructure, enhance agriculture, and provide employment and of course, ease of doing business,” he added. The Commandant of the College, Rear Admiral Samuel Alade, said the history of the return to democracy and democratic governance would be incomplete without nationalists such as Tinubu. “That is why we have invited him to give a lecture on strategic leadership because every country requires a well-developed leadership and there is no time Nigeria needs this more than now,” the commandant added. http://punchng.com/inflation-rate-becoming-unbearable-says-tinubu/ |

It is no longer news in Ajegunle and Itun-Maja Street, Imota as the entire areas are decorated with trash and dirts pile up in different corners and junctions as a result of poor service delivery of Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and invariably turned the streets into a dustbin. in an interview with Mrs. Amusa Damilola, a food vendor and resident in Ajegunle street disclosed that the agency had not been faithful to his customers and their ineffectiveness to evacuate refuse placed at picking points since October last year is what led to the current situation of the street. She added, "the bad smell oozing out of the refuse has drastically affected sales of food, all my customers can no longer sit and buy food because it becoming unbearable for them". According to Mr. Adelaja Ganiu, a fashion designer expressed his disappointment from LAWMA and their failure in rendering good services to the people despite the fact that they doesn't owed them any fees. The residents of this areas has continue to yarn for quick intervention of the right authorities to act swift towards the arrest of this situation before the decaying dirt spread to roads by the action of animal feeding on it and other agent of denudation. http://mc4larin..com.ng/2017/01/a-looming-health-hazard-in-imota-sos.html

Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the FRC, Jim Obazee, at the weekend said that though only 89 out of the 23, 216 registered churches in the country have complied till date with regulations, the council would be unrelenting till the right thing is done. “In keeping other peoples’ money, you have to prepare account. That is why churches fought me so badly, took me to court as a person and then my office too. Mosques and orthodox churches freely complied, but those Pentecostal churches called me to ask questions. They said: ‘This church is church of God and we are accountable to God.’ And I told them: ‘Very good, so you must take this church to heaven, you can’t operate it here’. When public funds are involved, government needs to ensure proper accountability.” The CEO explained: “Religious organisations are ordinarily set up as ‘not-for-profit’ and they remain institutions of public character. The challenge, however, is a trend where churches and mosques start dabbling into non-charity ventures like schools, hospitals and so on. “When you set up a church, your motive is to ensure that people are well focused to go to heaven. Then the money in the church should be targeted at ensuring that people are helped to do that. If you want to set up a school, then it should be free for all your members’ children. If you charge any money, then you are in the same league with other schools outside that are paying taxes to the government. “If you set up schools, hospitals and the likes under a church, there is a high likelihood that you will be engaging in non-charitable activities within charity. If you are doing that, then what stops Dangote from setting up a mosque and having all his cements, rice and sugar under it? That is actually what some churches and mosques are doing. |

A courier business is a company that moves packages from one location to another for a fee. Starting a courier business can be a lucrative opportunity, but there are practical considerations and logistics you may overlook that need to be taken into account. With a little time and effort, you can start a great courier business. 1. Starting Off Make initial decisions on your service area and types of packages. A courier service is a company that delivers packages from location to location. If you're interested in starting a courier company, take some time to make decisions about your service area and the types of packages you'll be delivering. • What kind of parcels and packages do you want to deliver at your company? The answer to this questions depends on your own resources. If you're relying on people using small cars or bikes, you may want to stick to small packages and envelopes. If you have access to larger trucks, you may be able to make money making bigger deliveries. Also, keep in mind there are specific regulations on certain types of packages. Medical goods and industrial chemicals have specific handling and care requirements. Your carriers may have to have specific certifications to carry such substances depending on your state. • How big do you foresee your service area? Do you want to deliver globally, transporting packages across the country? Or do you want to stick to a small, local region? What scope are reasonably able to handle? A local courier business might be easier to manage as coast-to-coast delivery can be expensive and you would be competing with larger companies, like FedEx and UPS. Spend some time thinking about how far your delivery range can reasonably be before committing to a courier business. Meet with business advisers. Unless you have a strong background in business, it's unlikely you can establish all aspects of a new business alone. You'll need to meet with a variety of advisers to establish the terms of your courier business. • Consult a business attorney familiar with the courier service industry to advise you on matters such as local zoning laws, which is especially important if you will run the business from your home. • Consult an accountant to advise you on how to keep your business records, tax filings, the pros and cons of employees vs. independent contractors and setting up an accounting system. You'll need to figure out how customers can pay and what kind of credit cards, checks, and other payment options you're willing to accept. • Consult an insurance professional to advise you on obtaining the proper business insurance for your office and its contents as well as commercial vehicle coverage, cargo insurance, worker's compensation insurance (if needed) and health insurance. Gather the necessary equipment. You'll need some basic, physical goods to start a courier business. Spend some time gathering these materials as you move through the preliminary process of starting your business. • Decide on vehicle types. If you're only delivering letters or small packages, consider using bicycles or small cars. You may be able employees to provide their own transportation as long as their cars and bikes are able to pass certain tests to assure they're running properly. However, if you're transporting bigger items you may need to use large, cargo trucks. You will have to provide these types of vehicles to your employees. You may need to take out a business loan to front the initial cost of trucks. • Cell phones, clipboards, maps, and GPS systems are also important for a courier business. If you want your employees to wear uniforms, keep this in mind as well. • Once you're ready to start advertising your business, you'll need to put some money into this as well. While you may not need to advertise in the early stages, as you'll be busy securing permits and making decisions regarding your business plan, it something to keep in the back of your mind. You do not want to over budget. • As stated, you will probably some kind of loan to pay for early costs. Talk to the business attorney you spoke with earlier and ask him about the logistics of securing a loan. Consider monthly expenses. You want to make sure your business plan is feasible. Spend some time estimating what your monthly expenses can be. This information can be helpful down the road when deciding on how much to charge customers. • For a courier business, your main monthly expenses will be vehicle insurance, cargo insurance, and fuel. • There may be specific expenses regarding your personal business plan. Make a list of potential expenses you may encounter each month to help you estimate your total monthly expenses. Consider things like wages, marketing and advertising, utilities, and any interest you'll have to pay regarding loan costs. Decide how much to charge. Considering your monthly expenses and other factors, you need to consider how much you'll charge your customers. Spend some time thinking over the prices you'll charge as a company. • Consider your location. In a bigger, metropolitan area you'll have to charge more to make a profit. You should also look at your competition to get an idea of average rates. If you can get by charging slightly less than the competition this might give you an edge. • You should also study your target market. If you're, say, delivering food and groceries in a college town you may have to keep your rates low. However, if you're delivering pricey antiques and high scale items in an affluent suburb, you can charge more and still get business. • With the help of an accountant, see how much you need to charge to make enough profit to maintain your business. From there, tweak prices and rates when you can to make more money. If you lack experience running a business, you may need to enlist the assistance of a professional here. 2. Getting Licenses and Insurance Figure out what kind of licenses and permits you need. As a business, you'll need a variety of licenses and permits. The requirements for obtaining a license vary by state. However, there are some general rules that can help you determine the right license for your business. • A courier business is not consider a professional field like medicine or psychiatry. Therefore, you do not need a professional license to practice. However, most states do require a business permit and certain tax forms for you to legally operate. Look into tax permits. You will also need to file taxes with the state and local government, which requires registering your business. Depending on your state's regulations, your business may need a federal tax identification number Get insurance. Courier insurance is a must for your business. A courier insurance policy makes sure you are not held personally liable if items you're transporting are damaged or lost during delivery. Courier insurance policies are generally inexpensive and you can talk to a business attorney or go online to find the right policy for your company. You may also need to get insurance policies regarding the vehicles you'll use for transportation. Keep in mind, depending on the size of your business, you may need health and other insurance policies in place for your employees. 3. Establishing A Business Hire and train employees. Once you've established the basics, you'll need to hire and train employees. The amount of employees you'll need depends heavily on the size of your business and your needs. • First off, you will need delivery people able to transport products. Look for people who have clean driving records. You should also keep physical fitness in mind. If you have people making bike deliveries, for example, you'll need to find people physically capable of riding a bike long hours. If you're going to have couriers transporting large objects, make sure employees are able to do heavy lifting. • You will also need a variety of administrative positions for a courier company. Who will answer phone calls and deal with customer concerns or complaints? Who will keep track of the location of items? You'll need a customer service team, a sales team, and other basic administrative employees. Seek people out who have experience working with people and are friendly, respectful, and outgoing. • You'll need to conduct some training with new employees. Every business has certain ethics and standards it strives to live up to. Think of a training policy ahead of time and spend some time going over ideas on how to best instruct your employees. Advertise. As your business is starting, advertising is vital. You'll need to make sure customers know you're an option in the world of transportation and delivery. • Forming an advertising campaign is difficult, especially if you're doing it for the first time. However, the advantage to a campaign is that you have full control over how your product is advertised and the image you're presenting. Prior to starting a campaign, think of how to brand your business. Is your appeal lower costs? Reliable drivers? Do you deliver items that other companies might not? Spend some time forming a fun, engaging advertising plan. • Be upfront about certain facts when designing things like fliers, websites, and press releases. What services do you offer? How can customers obtain these services? What are your rates? What promises or guarantees are you giving? Customers are more likely to contact your business if the information is presented in an accessible manner.[14] • Knowing your audience can help you decide when and where to advertise. Having an online presence, for example, can help with a younger crowd. If you're advertising for an older generation, you might want to stick to more traditional forms of advertising. Knowing your audience will allow you to most effectively deliver your message.[15] • If you're new to running your own business, you might want to consider taking a marketing, graphic design, or business course. Look for clients and customers. You may have to seek out clients and customers as a courier business. Are you planning on offering your services to local businesses that do not offer delivery? Make some phone calls to restaurants, furniture stores, or other places. Word of mouth helps a lot with these kinds of businesses. Offer special member-to-member discounts when you're starting to encourage people to recommend your services to others. Be persistent. Starting any business is stressful. However, try to be persistent. It may take a while for a new business to become established so don't expect success to happen overnight. Keep working hard and eventually it will pay off. http://mc4larin..com.ng/2016/12/how-to-start-courier-business_7.html |

I was privileged to attend the grand finale of Gov. Rauf Aregbesola’s second term bid campaigns in 2014 in Oshogbo stadium where I saw a crowd that frightened me. I have been attending campaign rallies since 1999 but what I saw in Oshogbo was unprecedented in the history of Nigeria. I was sitting close to a friend and when I sought his opinion on what we are witnessing he told me that this is no longer rally but a movement. After the Ondo Guber elections last Saturday November 26 2016 many commentators began to celebrate the so-called Buhari boys in Abuja who they said outsmarted Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I saw a calculated attempt to whittle down the well-deserved honour and glory the man has recorded even from his days at Mobil Producing Nigeria. Many half a penny commentators said that this may be the beginning of the end of the Asiwaju BAT’s phenomenon. Some said that BAT has been bruised. But I know enough history to conclude that success is not an event. I know that nobody makes it to the World Series overnight. I know the champions do not become heroes overnight. Throughout history I have known that history is not drawn on a straight line. This is the reason why I feel that those who tried to use the outcome of Ondo elections to get at Asiwaju BAT miss the point. They know nothing about Asiwaju BAT as a massive movement. They know nothing about BAT as a friend of the poorest of the poor. They know nothing about BAT as a bridge builder. They know nothing about BAT as a maker of leaders in Nigeria. They knowing about BAT as a friend of all and sundry. They know nothing about Asiwaju as a strategic thinker, fighter, and achiever. They know little about his committed, vast preponderance and deep-rooted friends across Nigeria. They know nothing about his deep connect with Presidents and leaders in Africa and the world. They know nothing about the men and women he has brought up across Nigeria as political leaders, Governors, Deputy Governors, Speakers, Senators, Reps, Commissioners, Ministers, LGA Chairmen, business men etc including Akeredolu and Alasoadura. The low thinkers do not know that in 2012 he brought to the front seat, the man of history called Rotimi Akeredolu. Ah, Ah, I wish these people know this saga called Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Oh, how I wish they know what I know? How I wish they had been close to this working history who showed me the freeways, byways, subways, highways and low ways of power. How I wish they know ten percent of what I know about this man of history. When it was difficult for people to understand this man he humbly released this statement to drive home his points. Hear ASIWAJU BAT :'I set my goals and objectives in accordance with my vision. I study them and strategically execute them. My detractors discuss my successes and failure because they have nothing to execute. I am in the news more because I'm working, Nigerians discuss active men in the field. Mentioning any negative news about me will double the wealth of any news media that published it. My name today is a financial market for journalist. Not even elected politicians get the publicity I am enjoying. My comrades , go and work till mentioning your name becomes a source of increased wealth for someone. Even my weakness create wealth for vendors'. Andy Andrew tells me that “Everybody wants to reach the top of the mountain, but there is no growth at the peak. It is in the valley that we slog through the lush grass and rich soil, learning and becoming what enables us to summit life's next peak”. Niccolo Machiavelli teaches us that “The first method for estimating the intelligence of a ruler is to look at the men he has around him”Take a look around BAT and see the men and women around him and it is only when you know this that you will begin to understand this man. Asiwaju is not without blemish. Asiwaju is not playing God. Asiwaju did not preach to us that he is the best God ever created. Asiwaju did not tell us that he knows it all. He never said so. Asiwaju is an ordinary mortal like everyone of us. I pray that the East and the North will try to produce one person each like Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This country will be better for it. Let me say it once again that it is difficult for 20 – 30 people to gather anywhere in Nigeria without you discovering that one person may have been touched by Asiwaju magic. This is what makes BAT a massive movement. Now, let me close with this” celebrate great men and women and you too will achieve greatness. The one who serve a people is their master. It is good to be important but it is more important to be good. I am celebrating Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu today because I want to be a great man like him. Case rested!
