Monday Okpebholo, governor of Edo state, has appointed Sulaiman Aledeh, a veteran broadcaster, as the managing director of the state-owned Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS).

In a statement on Saturday, Fred Itua, chief press secretary to the governor (CPS), said Aledeh’s appointment is with immediate effect.

The spokesperson described Aledeh as an international journalist and strategic media consultant, adding that he has over two decades of broadcast journalism experience.

Itua added that the new MD is a philosophy graduate from the University of Benin (UNIBEN) and began his media career at EBS while still a student in 1999.

“He has made significant contributions to prestigious international news channels including Al Jazeera, SABC, and GB News UK,” the statement reads.

“Currently, he anchors various news programs at Arise News and shares his insights on Classic FM.

“He later served at Ebonyi Radio during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme, becoming the first corps member permitted to read the station’s major news bulletin.

“He further established his voice at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, where he created and presented influential shows.

“His journey into national television began with one of Africa’s foremost media companies, where he anchored flagship news programs on TVC and Channels Television.

“His tenure at Channels TV further solidified his expertise in producing compelling television content, delivering some of the network’s most memorable promos, and covering significant events, including the 2011 and 2015 general elections.

“As the assistant general manager and head of media and communications at Eko DISCO, Nigeria’s leading electricity distribution company, Aledeh demonstrated strong leadership in strategic communication.

“He is a Fellow of the Institute of Public Diplomacy and Management and an Associate of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations.

“Sulaiman holds a master’s degree in humanitarian and refugee studies from the University of Lagos and has served as a special correspondent and news anchor at Arise News in London and Lagos”.

Being proud of one's state or region is not bigotry.

Nigeria is made up of ancient tribes cobbled together by the British. Every tribe should rightfully be proud of their history and achievements. In the same way Californians are proud of their state and yet support the USA. This is the essence of Federalism.

What is wrong is denigrating other tribes and people groups.

The truth is that the more we emphasize on this tribal stuff, the more divided we seem. Will it be wrong if we remove state of origin and local govt from all documents to be filled?
