bykebyke: He literally made 5appearances for Barcelona, and those appearances came in the Cruyff era..which means Cruyff didn't see him as good enough and sold his ass.
Knows the club inside out my foot. I don't think it has to be all about his playing days for us. He's been with the club since Frank Rijkaard. And he most likely already has a good rapport with the boys. Continuation is the key word. Did Tito Vilanova play for us? |

freaklesschild: Barcelona Reports: Unzue emerges as surprise favourite for Luis Enrique's job Could Luis Enrique's right hand man be the right person for the tasking job? What’s the story? After Luis Enrique shockingly announced his resignation from the post of head coach of Barcelona FC after his team thrashed Sporting Gijon 6-1 about ten days ago, his job has become the most wanted in the footballing world. Despite coaches of the calibre of Sevilla’s Jorge Sampaoli and Athletic Bilbao’s Ernesto Valverde being linked to the clubs, latest reports from Catalonia indicate that Juan Carlos Unzue, Luis Enrique’s current assistant manager has emerged as favourite for the job. In case you didn’t knowUnzue had a fruitful playing career in La Liga, keeping goal for a variety of clubs across Spain including Osasuna, Barcelona, Sevilla, Tenerife and Oviedo. The majority of his career was spent at Sevilla, where he guarded the net 222 times. Rather interestingly, Seville’s in-demand Sporting Director Monchi was the second choice goalie at the same time. After retiring, he immediately returned to the game and took up the goalkeeping coach role at FC Barcelona under Frank Rijkaard, and later under Pep Guardiola. After travelling around a bit, he became Luis Enrique’s assistant manager at Celta Vigo, and accompanied him to Barcelona, where he retained his position as assistant. The heart of the matterMultiple times, the Barcelona hierarchy have reiterated that they are after a person who understands the club, it’s style and it’s roots. And this where Unzue has a clear edge over the more experienced candidates. Choosing him would send out a signal that Barcelona are staying true to their philosophy of continuation – whereas Valverde or Sampaoli would be seen as disrupting influences. Also, Read – Reports: Barcelona shortlist five managers to replace Luis EnriqueUnzue is known for his set-piece expertise, and already tasked with the duty of communicating Luis Enrique’s instructions to the players during matches, he has developed a warm rapport with the playersWhat next? With Enrique and Unzue having masterminded Barcelona’s epic comeback against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League this mid-week, his case has been strenghtened. There is, of course, precedent for this – Pep Guardiola’s successor, Tito Vilanova, was promoted to the managerial post after his boss decided to take a sabbatical. Hence, this has now emerged as a strong possibilitySportskeeda’s TakeLuis Enrique’s position will be one that many managers will view as a poisoned chalice – while being able to work with the world’s best players is always a draw, the egoes and the intricate internal politics that are spread across the fans, the dressing room and the boardroom will be something that can catch people unawares. Unzue is well aware of all these dynamics and will provide the smoothest transition possible. Even if only for a year, this could be a safe choice for the Barca hierarchyJo can the guy be the next coach ...cules what your take on dis one I'm all for continuation. He knows the club inside out. Let's appoint our own. I know a lot of other people have way different opinions tho but I'm all for continuation. What about you? What do you think? |

eyoniggar: Well like I said, Madrid are gonna start losing points at the crucial time of the season which has already started, while Barca is picking up in due time. My brethren, I dont want to know if we r qualifying or not, but I am placing my bet on that match against PSG, for their life, them nor go every pray to thrash us first leg for their home ever again. I rest my case. I can place a bet on a win for us but I don't know if we'll win the tie. |

Resign means many things BTW! You can find Enrique's situation in one of these. Ok then. |

homesteady: Ohh! I skipped it!
I already answered, he has decided to step down after this season! The Resign there is "future past tense"! I don't even think 'resign' should be there in the first place. If I'm not mistaken, when people resign, they step down immediately. What LE did is not resignation. He'll be leaving after seeing out his contract at the end of the season. There's a difference |

homesteady: Though I didn't mention resign in my post!
He has said he would not renew his contract after this season! Check again. homesteady: Are we still on this Enrique's issue?
Every Barcelona fan, I mean everyone that keys into the vision, history and background of this great club should be pleased that Enrique is going! Under his reign, the major values that made us not just successful, but highly admired were thrown to the gutters! Yes he won a million trophies, for that we are greatful, but just imagine if the likes of Johan Cruyff and Pep had this similar type of "success" that Enrique had, do you think we would have been successful as we currently are? Mind you that Enrique's success was highly dependent on the success of Cruyff and Pep! Now that Enrique is going, can you say his legacy would last even a year later? By legacy I mean his playing style and tactics? This man ruined one of the greatest midfield this world has seen, that is unforgivable! Yes Xavi left, but is that why the midfield would just come down from America's status to Somalia 's status? Pep came, sent Ronaldinho away, sent Eto away, did we die? It is on record that it was under his watch that La Masia fizzled out, he sold the last few starlets, which I'm sure had a bad psychological effect on the remaining boys in the academy!
I'm tired of seeing many teams playing good football, while the team I started supporting because of their good football has gone south! I believe that this current team has a lot more to offer, and Enrique doesn't have any other thing to offer! If he had, he wouldn't have resigned! |

bykebyke: You wan possession football and also trophies, yet you want someone like Valverde.
LOL.
Keep buying what this stupid board are selling to you. I said I'd like a Spanish coach to take over, I don't remember saying I want Valverde. You are sure Sampaoli can deliver possession football and the trophies to go with it? I have every right to be doubtful of Sampaoli. This is his first season in Europe, I'm sure you know that. If he becomes the coach, no problem. I'll just hope we don't become an 'almost team' under him. |

jpmoriarti: This is of course provided he has a single successful season. We have a tried an Argentine coach before. We know how ridiculous that season ended. I am wary of Argentine coaches esp when they coach Barca. Honestly, me too. Tata Martino comes to mind. Left to me, I prefer a Spanish coach to take over. But what can a man do other than support him if he's appointed coach? As it is, he's the favorite to take over. Let's just hope he won't do a Martino (which I understand as 'almost') The reason a lot of people want him is possessive football, I guess. I want possessive football too, but I also want the trophies to come along with it. |

2017 You can imagine. Sometimes I feel people just post here without really thinking of what they're posting. See how the last post contradicts the first two posts. I'm sure no one will die if they just wait for the season to end before calling the coach names. One season of bad football will not kill anybody. As a fan, one is supposed to support the coach through thick and thin. Even if you're not going to support him, you don't have to call him names to make your point.I can see how almost everyone here is salivating over Sampaoli taking over from LE. I can't just help but wonder if this is how they'll treat him when things start going bad after maybe, two successful seasons? Some fans have short memories. |
