New style-focused Pan-African Reality TV Show hosted by former Miss World, Agbani Darego set to air this summer

“You better go and think of a real career!” That was the response that most African parents would give when their children suggested that they wanted to enter the world of fashion. Perhaps as a model, fashion stylist, fashion designer, photographer, makeup artist or even a fashion photographer.

Thanks to the success of fashion pioneers including Iman, Oluchi and Liya Kebede, things are changing. Fashion is being recognized as a worthy profession.

An exciting new Pan-African Reality TV show – STYLOGENIC is set to propel African fashion and those that aspire to join the industry to greater heights.

STYLOGENIC is a show like no other. Rather than being based on the search for a top model or designer or stylist, the show is based around the concept of a style team! So contestants are going to be grouped in teams consisting of the various ‘style elements’. That is a model, designer, stylist, makeup artist, photographer and model. They will compete as a team and will battle it out with fellow teams for the grand prize!

The show recently held a media presentation in Lagos which was attended by the host, one of the most famous women in Africa – Former Miss World, Agbani Darego. Agbani won the Miss World crown in 2001, making her the first and only black African to ever win the title. She went on to have a successful modeling career which included a stint as a L’Oreal International “Face” and Spokesperson, numerous commercial ad campaigns and features in US Vogue and Essence magazine.

Entries for the show will open soon and entries will be accepted from all eligible Africans based on the continent and in Diaspora. The show will begin airing in September 2010.

Prizes are yet to be revealed but from what we hear, it’s MAJOR!

It promises to be an immensely exciting show!

PoliticsYar' Adua Has Track Records Of Failure - El-rufai by Mcfeddy(op): 10:02am On Jan 07, 2010
The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has decried the inability of President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua’s administration to sanitise the power sector which is largely responsible for the growth and development of the country’s economy, saying the president has a track records of disappointing Nigerians.

In a statement entitled, “Nigeria's Power Failure”, El-Rufai said; "This piece was not written to bemoan the failure of the current political leadership, nor is it about the pronouncements of dodgy lawyers and desperate politicians. It was intended to address the recent setback that the nation has suffered with regards to the failure of the present adminstration to tackle the problems bedeviling the power sector.

According to him, "The present administration had informed Nigerians that they will not be able to meet the 6,000 megawatts of electricity target generation this year.

“It would be recalled that President Yar’Adua had revised former President Obasanjo’s plan of generating 10,000 megawatts of electricity by the end of December 2007, but his adminstration promised to deliver only 6,000 megawatts within 18 months and an additional 11,000mw by 2011”.

The 6,000mw if continuously generated and distributed to about 150 million people will only power a single 60 watts light bulb for about 58 minutes a day without the usage of electronic gadgets, about 23 hours will be spent in darkness.

He also stated that the Federal Government is known for not living up to its promises, saying, "Given President Yar'Adua administration's track record of disappointing Nigerians, it only shows that the latter’s promise of increasing eletricity generation will not be a reality . Few days after the vice-president promised that no Nigerian will use power generators in 2010, the presidency itself proposed spending N542.4 million in the 2010 budget to purchase and fuel its power generating plants.”

The fomer FCT minister disclosed that the Yar’Adua adminstration has done nothing to aggravate the hardship confronting Nigerians, pointing out that the expected gains of democracy which made progress in many areas under the previous administration have been completely stalled.

He said all we have now are empty promises, lofty slogans and continuous threat to citizens who dare to demand for changes.

According to him, "Without adequate power supply Nigeria cannot achieve its potentials,” the statement concluded.
PoliticsNigeria President Yar'adua 'should Be Declared Missing' by Mcfeddy(op): 11:26am On Jan 05, 2010
A human rights group is urging Nigerian legislators to declare President Umaru Yar'Adua "missing" after six weeks in hospital in Saudi Arabia.

The Human Rights Writers Association also wants the National Assembly to send out a search party for him.

Judges are also due to hear two separate court cases over Mr Yar'Adua's protracted absence.

He has failed to hand over power to his deputy and so many Nigerians feel there is a power vacuum in the country.

Rights lawyer and activist Femi Falana wants judges to annul all decisions taken by the cabinet during the president's absence.

In the other case, senior opposition activist Farouk Adamu Aliyu is asking the Federal High Court to sack the president due to his failing health and for failing to abide by the provisions of the constitution.

Doctors say the president is suffering from acute pericarditis - inflammation of the lining of the heart.

He also has a long-standing kidney complaint.

Last week, a new chief justice was sworn in despite Mr Yar'Adua's absence.

Some lawyers have challenged this, as the constitution states that chief justice should take the oath of office to the president.

Instead, the ceremony was presided over by the outgoing chief justice, who denied the claims the ceremony was illegal.

PoliticsYar’adua Unfit To Rule – Nnamani, Masari, Falae by Mcfeddy(op): 11:01am On Dec 02, 2009
PRESIDENT Umaru Yar’Adua should resign or come clean about his incapacity, and clear the way for his replacement as spelt out in the Constitution, the bulwark of the opposition North and South demanded on Tuesday.

They did on a day the Senate rejected a motion to pray for his quick recovery, an idea floated on Monday by Senate President, David Mark.

Fifty four eminent Nigerians signed a statement to convey the frustration nationwide, and across political divides, at his health problem – which some say threatens stability and exacerbates low investors’ confidence in Nigeria.

They want Yar’Adua to immediately handover to his Deputy, Goodluck Jonathan.

Among the signatories are former Senate President, Ken Nnamani; former House of Representatives Speaker, Aminu Masari; former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Olu Falae; former Kaduna State Governor, Balarabe Musa; former Military Administrator of Kaduna State, Abubakar Umar; and former Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nasir el-Rufai.

Also among them are legal light, Itse Sagay; former National Advance Party (NAP) Presidential candidate, Tunji Braithwaite; Northern Congress of Civil Society President, Uba Sanni; human rights lawyers Femi Falana and Bamidele Aturu.

They disagreed with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which argued in a statement on Monday that there is no vacancy in Aso Rock, despite governance being at a standstill in a country known for decades of underdevelopment.

They urged Yar’Adua to place the country above any person or powerful clique whose interest is served by the many ills in government and weakness of its top officials.

“It is clear to every discerning observer that (Yar’Adua’s) physical condition has had a negative impact on his ability to discharge the functions of the highest office in our nation,” the 906-word statement began.

“Within the last few months, he has been unable to attend to crucial affairs of the state at home and abroad, and whenever he has found time to do so, his judgment appears impaired by his ill-health.”

The signatories also included Afenifere Renewal Group (ARG) Spokesman, Yinka Odumakin; Campaign for Democracy (CD) President, Joe Okei-Odumakin; Buba Galadima; Olawale Oshun; and Action Congress (AC) member, Usman Bugaje.

They were joined by Adamu Maina Waziri; Sadiq Yar’Adua; Adamu Farouk Aliyu; Jos Ayomike; Hajia Naja’atu Muhammeed; Annkio Briggs; Jumoke Anifowose; Sola Adeyeye; Democratic Peoples Alliance (DPA) member; Supo Shonibare; and critic and poet Odia Ofeimun.

While illness is a natural phenomenon to which none is immune, the statement conceded, Yar’Adua’s incessant overseas travels on health grounds, the confusion enveloping the country and gross underperformance of his administration drag Nigeria back.

“His health condition has necessitated several medical trips abroad but he has not transmitted to the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives a written declaration that he was proceeding on vacation or that he is otherwise unable to discharge the functions of his office as required by Section 145 of the Constitution,” the statement added.

“It is also common knowledge that (his) incapacity has affected the implementation of the budget because he has been unable to co-ordinate the management of the economy and to preside over the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in a diligent manner.

“In the circumstance, Ministers have routinely flouted (Yar’Adua’s) orders and engaged in infighting as a direct result of the vacuum of leadership.

“A battery of doctors, complete with their paraphernalia, escorted (Yar’Adua) to the National Assembly last year to stand by as he delivered the budget.

“Some pundits have revealed that the crisis between the Senate and the House on who should host the budget delivery by (him) was contrived to provide an escape for (Yar’Adua) who was reportedly physically unable to perform this formal task.

“The current condition of (Yar’Adua) has created a dangerous situation whereby no one is in charge of the affairs of the state, contrary to the letter and spirit of the Constitution.

“As responsible and concerned individuals from every part of Nigeria, we call on (him) to immediately choose the honorable option of either (a) resigning his office immediately, or

“(b) if he is confident of his true physical condition, request the (FEC) to pass a resolution pursuant to Section 144 (1) of the Constitution to the effect that (he) appears incapable of discharging the functions of his office.

“This honorable step will enable the Senate President to appoint a Medical Panel to confirm the fitness or otherwise of (Yar’Adua) to continue in office.

“As (his) compatriots and part of his larger Nigerian family, we sympathise with him and believe that his health should be given priority attention.

“At the same time, the need to provide effective governance for this nation of over 150 million people cannot be compromised. Indeed, the Constitution has rightly envisaged the situation in which the country has found itself.

“In any event, we are of the view that (Yar’Adua) should immediately and unconditionally hand over to (Jonathan) to complete the current term of office, and conduct the next general elections on the basis of the report of the electoral reform committee headed by Mohammed Lawal Uwais.”

CelebritiesWhat Do U Think? 9 Reasons Why Beyonce Shouldn’t Have Kids by Mcfeddy(op): 10:26am On Nov 19, 2009
First Bey and Jay didn’t want kids and then they did and now they don’t. Either way the thought of Beyonce having kids could be a very scary thing. Here’s 9 reasons why Beyonce shouldn’t have kids just yet:

*Disclaimer: I don’t hate kids or moms. I applaud and admire every mother out there and if you’re a mom, by default you are fierce!

1. Hips Don’t Lie

Bey currently has all the right curves in all the right places and knows how to work it. I’m afraid that if she pops out a kid those hips aren’t going to bounce back.

2. Career Suicide

Babies can be notorious career killers. Just take a look at Jennifer Lopez and Christina Aguilera. What are any of them doing now??

3. Biological Clocks

Jay-Z is the one turning 40 this year, not Beyonce. She’s still in her 20s and has plenty of time to have kids and Jay won’t start shooting blanks for decades. Bey should focus busting out some more hits instead of babies.

4. Ugly Kid Potential

Little camels. That’s all I have to say.

5. Does Beyonce Look Like A Mom?

Considering her new video for “Video Phone” just came out and has her twerkin’ it, does she even look she’s ready to trade in a stiletto for a binky?

6. No More Leotards

What will Bey do for nine months of not being able to wear a one piecehuh

7. We Don’t Want A Dereon Baby Clothing Line

Could you imagine suiting up your kid in some Dereon? No child should have to endure that, ever.

8. Sasha Fierce >>> Mommy Fierce??

After popping out a kid will Beyonce continue singing “Diva is the female version of a hustler” or will Sasha Fierce go into hiding so Mommy Fierce can come out? Watch out, “All The Single Babies” might actually become reality.

9. This Will Confirm Jay And Bey Actually Have Sex

Gross!

Politics2011: No Vacancy In Aso Rock – Pdp by Mcfeddy(op): 5:02pm On Nov 18, 2009
President Umaru Yar’Adua will keep his job in 2011, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) announced on Tuesday, in a jibe aimed at party members scheming to thwart the man’s second term.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Rufai Alkali, advised such jostlers to look elsewhere because there is no vacancy in the Villa.

Alkali was reacting in Abuja to the selection of Governor Namadi Sambo of Kaduna State by some fringe PDP members to take over from Yar’Adua in 2011.

He said the gambit will not have the support of the party hierarchy now or in the nearest future.

In any case, he dismissed the story as a speculation without substance.

He urged all PDP Governors and other party faithful hoping to shove Yar’Adua aside to perish the thought because the party does not choose its Presidential candidate through “noise makers.”

Alkali urged party stalwarts to disregard the rumour, stressing that the PDP government would not be distracted from providing good governance and democracy dividends to the people.

He equally admonished Andy Uba, a member of the Anambra State PDP, to jettison his quest for Government House, Awka and co-operate with the party’s Governorship candidate, Chukwuma Soludo.

He said now that the Appeal Court has rejected Uba’s request for a revalidation of his 2007 mandate, he should work with the party to ensure the victory of Soludo on February 6, 2010

He expressed joy over Monday’s court ruling which affirmed Soludo’s nomination, and reminded Uba that it is in the party’s interest to join hands with “a credible candidate who should emerge as Governor.”

Those who contested and lost the primaries should realise that the party comes first, Alkali added.

“All of them are desirous to serve their state but there are many other ways to contribute to the development of their state.

“In any case, there can only be one Governor at a time in the state. God has now come on the side of Soludo and the party has endorsed him fully.”

“The best thing is for everybody to come together so that we move forward. There are many other people who are also coming out to contest under other political parties.

“The more we have internal squabbles, the more we give the chance to our opponents to also raise their voices.”

Alkali advised PDP members to explore its internal mechanism to resolve their disputes rather than rush to the courts, a “culture of litigation (that) raises doubts as to whether these people are working for the party or for our opponents.”

He warned that those who continue to ignore directives from the national headquarters would be sanctioned.

Two weeks ago, PDP National Chairman, Vincent Ogbulafor, urged party members feeling uncomfortable with Soludo to leave the party if they cannot accept the decision made by the National Working Committee (NWC).

SportsGaladima Wants Nff Job Again by Mcfeddy(op): 7:48am On Nov 12, 2009
Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima, the man who presided over Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2006 World Cup in Germany has dropped hints that he will be seeking to return to the Glass House at the elections scheduled for next year.
The foremost football administrator from Kano gave the hint at the official commissioning of the National Technical Centre in Abuja, a Goal Project  sponsored by FIFA.
“With God's pronouncement, nothing stops me from contesting under the platform of a known football administration.”
Speaking on the laudable event, Galadima said the Goal Project, “was actually my effort. It was actually completed by my administration.
“This was supposed to be a home where we create talents with all facilities available to give it a homely affair. One does not need to go out of here looking for any other thing to buy once you are in. Everything was supposed to be equipped. "Nonetheless, I feel happy, it is commissioned finally and that is why I am here to witness it.”
In his advice to the Nigeria Football Federation, Galadima urged those in-charge of the nation’s football to imbibe the spirit of maintenance culture, to ensure the facilities do not go decay. He said the facility would reduce the cost of camping players in hotel.
Commenting on the exploits of the Golden Eaglets, Galadima expressed happiness that from a shaky start, the team has become the darling of Nigerians.
"When they started, no one gave them a chance. People were having some doubts but as you can see, they keep improving in all their game and they are now getting closer to the final. It is not just to win the cup, but for the leadership of football in this country to keep these boy so that they grow from Under-17, to Under 20 and probably the senior team. By so doing, no team can beat our senior national team with impunity. So we should pay more attention in developing youth football,” he advised.

Nairaland GeneralNigeria Is Most Blessed, Says Bonnke by Mcfeddy(op): 8:09am On Nov 11, 2009
A German-born international evangelist, Reinhard Bonnke, has adjudged Nigeria as the most blessed in the world.

Mr. Bonnke said his assertion was based on facts he has about the countries of the world.

He spoke to journalists in Ibadan on Tuesday after paying a courtesy call on the Oyo State Governor, Adebayo Alao-Akala, shortly after his arrival in the state capital.

He is billed to start a five-day open-air crusade in the city today.

Mr. Bonnke, however, said Nigerians are not enjoying the blessings in the country because the leaders are yet to find the appropriate way to distribute them equitably.

“If a system can be found for all to benefit, this could be the most prosperous country on the earth. I have a very high opinion of Nigeria. Wherever I go in the world when I am asked about Nigeria, some people come up with bad stories and I say I know Nigeria, and I must say in my whole life I have never seen a country in the whole world, that is more blessed than Nigeria. That is my personal testimony,” he said.

Though this is not his first time in Nigeria, Mr. Bonnke said his visit is special because it is specifically packaged to mark his 50 years as an evangelist.

Ibadan has been agog with activities advertising the five-day revival in the form of electronic jingles on radio and television stations, even prior to his arrival. Churches have also been mobilising their members to attend.

PoliticsAnambra 2010: Pdp Will Not Go Back On Soludo - Ogbulafor by Mcfeddy(op): 7:41am On Nov 11, 2009
Vincent Ogbulafor, the PDP national chairman, said on Tuesday in Abuja that the party would not reverse its decision to field Chukwuma Soludo as its candidate for the 2010 Anambra governorship election.

“The decision of the party is supreme and we will build on that decision to make sure that Soludo is given the necessary backing to win the 2010 governorship election,’’ Mr. Ogbulafor said at the inauguration of the Anambra PDP Caretaker Committee.

Mr. Ogbulafor, who frowned at the internal crisis rocking the PDP in Anambra in recent years, announced that the last court order restraining the party from nominating Soludo had been lifted.

He urged party members in the state to resolve their differences and cooperate with the caretaker committee until a substantive state executive committee was constituted.

“All the aspirants who lost in the contest should accept their situation gallantly and abide by the party’s decision as allowed by our constitution. We do not see why anyone will want to take our party to court knowing full well that we have great men and women in charge of affairs who can resolve whatever differences that exist,’’ he said.
