Hello all, I have waited to no avail for the promised quick fix of the problem on my posing. Hopefully, this post will show and serve as a green light for us to proceed on our long awaited joomla tutorial class. |
Hi all, Please keep checking this thread as the issue is going to be resolved soon. Thanks for your encouragement. |
I have sent a mail to your Yahoo account. Its a forward mail of the previous ones i sent without reply. Thanks for helping out. |
Just tried it, Nice one i must say. I will be glad to see you come up with a complete template design for any of the CMS it is supporting. That can be cool cash you know, especially when it is customized to be proudly Nigerian. All the best. |
@OmniPotens, My ID is Mcfranc. Please help me check and advice if i should continue the thread or delete it to start a new one on the same tutorial. Thanks bro. |
Check out these ones: http://joomla.org http://drupal.org http://wordpress.org http://ez.no http://b2evolution.net http://madebyfrog.com http://xoops.org You may google for more but i think any of the first three will be nice for you. |
@OmniPotent I have been having issues too with my joomla thread even after you helped fix it. My post shows in other threads but does not in that particular one. I hope to continue with the tutorial if this issue is fixed. Though i wanted to start a new thread but was adviced by dhtml not to because it will be negating the rules of the forum. Thanks |
This one is mouth-watering, let it roll! ![]() |
VirtualMart is also cool if you are working in a joomla environment. |
*dhtml:I will be waiting for that to be fixed. If it persist i may have to start a new thread on the same training. Hope that wont be against the rule here. |
Thats great! So site flipping don start for nairaland. LagosHost settle the boys o ![]() |
You are probably on an old version of PHP or your modules are not compatible with the latest available version of Joomla! You may want to post the exact error you are getting. |
@dhtml, am still having issues posting on the joomla thread. Any help? |
Nawa for some folks here o. @dhtml check these links: http://www.absolutely-free-hosting.com/free-subdomain-hosting.php. http://www.free-webhosts.com/free-php-webhosting.php You may get started from there. |

Today, we shall be installing Joomla on our local server. So lets get started. First on your deskstop, start your server by double clicking it. Then, on your taskbar, locate the compass-like icon i.e your WAMP server and launch your local host. Scroll down and you will see Your Project, under it is your joomla directory, click on it to commence the proper installation. Next, we follow it step by step: Step1: CHOOSE LANGUAGE Of course, you choose the default which is English. Step 2: PRE-INSTALLATION CHECK This part is very important in the installation process, it checks whether all the minimum system requirements are met. The first set are the expected minimums, if they are red (i.e not met) then you need to find a new environment (change hosts), talk them into changing their environment (upgrading PHP for example). Note that the last item is a permissions issue on a file that is much easier to rectify. You can usually change permissions through the cpanel provided by your host. This tool is generally an industry standard. The second set is recommended settings. If you don't meet them you can still install Joomla but it you experience problems with functionality and security. This step is more applicable to web servers with less than minimum requirement because the latest WAMP have all the requirements Step3: LISENSE Joomla is released under a GNU/GPL license. You may choose to remove the footer link that says powered by Joomla but you just have to keep the copyright statement in the source code. Step4: DATABASE CONFIGURATION This is one of the main steps of the installation process, it?s where you need to enter important information about the database that your Joomla site will use. Joomla 1.5 only really runs on SQL for now. Database type: Leave it as default Hostname: ?localhost? Username: root Password: Leave it blank Jump straight to creating your database name. Just go back to your task bar and click on the WAMP icon, then click on PhpMyAdmin, a window will come up, see where you have create new database then enter your database name and click create. That is it. Now go back to the database configuration and enter the database name you just created. Step5: MAIN CONFIGURATION The Main Configuration page determines how you will insert content into your site. You have three choices: Install Sample Data This installs the default Joomla content that you have probably seen all over the web with ?Welcome to Joomla?. Note that is also includes all the menus, navigation links and sections/categories. If you are learning how to use Joomla this is highly recommended. Its easier to adapt and revise than to start from scratch. You may explore the others on your own later. Step6: FINISH At this stage, before you launch your your site, go to the www directory where you have joomla folder in the wamp icon and delete ONLY the INSTALLATION FOLDER. Thereafter, your joomla site is ready for exploration. Please feel free to ask questions if you encounter any problem. |
Hope this post stays, cos i posted same yesterday but it mysteriously disappeared again ![]() |
