justojai: For your perusal about free BBM on samsung galaxy.
http://bgr.com/2013/08/06/bbm-android-samsung-galaxy/
Did you bother to read the link you shared because it clearly stated BBM would be coming to Android and last time I checked, Tecno runs on Android.
Also, this is the last official news from Blackberry: http://ng.blackberry.com/bbm.html

justojai: Just get your fact right and do a proper research before correcting anyone. The fact remains that Samsung and Rim announced that BBM will be available on Galaxy at no cost. Am always open to hear what I don't know and not what I know.
Would you be kind enough to share a link to where Blackberry (RIM no longer exists) announced BBM would be available "on Galaxy". All their announcements have been that BBM will be available to Android 4.0+ and iOS devices. There's been no mention of a specific device, or at least I haven't seen one.

caukerzee: ^^^^^Couldn't have said it better. I should not repeat this. mcgboye heres your reply.
Lol. I don't have energy for this, but you obviously don't get my point. If, as those techy guys found out, it takes $237 to make one unit of S4, why should it be sold with a margin of well over 100%? The price differential isn't only because of the Samsung range of devices are better than those of Tecno, but the goodwill and the "brand". I don't have problem with that. But I absolutely think it's ludicrous to dismiss Tecno, gionee and similar phones as inferior just because they're Chinese companies. See, if the Phantom A+ is sold for 60-70k while S4 is sold for 100k, then I would understand people's apathy.
The N9 is a new device and there is no evidence that it won't last more than a year as suggested. Maybe I'm being unnecessarily sympathetic towards these cheap, chinko phones, but the truth is I think 80% of users will do fine buying an N9 instead of the more expensive Samsung and Apple tabs
PhonesRe: Samsung-Galaxy Tab2 VS Tecno-Phantom Pad N9 by mcgboye(m): 3:31pm On Aug 07, 2013
caukerzee: What are you on about mate? How does your post relate to the argument were having? And how does it change the fact that the ranking stats show that s.korea is a more innovative and a more technologically advanced than china? Why are you running a way from the topic. Anyway, let me respond to this. In the end, all these in that article are just speculations from analysts which is in no way 100Percent accurate. If you follow tech news, you would notice that in the past analysts have turned out wrong most of the time. Some three years ago, it was predicted that apple iphone would own 80 percent of the smartphone market share but what is happening now? Ever since 2011, samsung has been growing with no sign of stoping and now own the highest market share. The tables might turn in the future, but for now samsung is king. And as I said earlier, in the end its all speculation. Samsung atm is by far and by a very great margin, superior to tecno. P.S-tecno wasnt even mentioned in that article. Companies like hawaie and lenvo were. I give credidt to whom credit to whom credit is due, lenvo and hawaie are chinesse company but they produce quality products hence are confident enough to take their products to developed markets nd are recognized. Tecno on the other hand mass produces substandard products 4 technologically backward 3rd world countries wit low certification standards knowing dat dey will sell like mad in those places, nd shy away 4rm devoloped markets where dey know their products wount be allowed past d borders
I don't like delving into unnecessary arguments, and my post was simply to broaden the horizon of the discourse. My understanding is that Samsung is a Korean company but the devices themselves are assembled in China. And there's no empirical data to support the fact that smartphones made in Korea, if any, trumps those made in China. The term innovation is general and does net necessarily mean one is better than the other in all areas of technology. Do I think Tecno phones are as good as Samsung phones? No, as shown by all the benchmarks testings. Do I think Tecno make great phones? Absolutely. Do I think Samsung products are worth the prices they're going for? Definitely NO. I've spent the past two hours playing with my colleague's 10-inch Samsung tab, and I can't see much apparent difference between it and the N9. The N9 handles ALL taxes very well and is not significantly inferior as suggested by the price differential. Like I wrote somewhere, one unit of Samsung S4 costs $237 to produce but it's sold for $600+. A typical "chinko" wouldn't make such margin given the same specs, but then people will look at the huge price difference and say it's inferior.

justojai: Me Techno? For wat na? Why is RIM offering BBM for free on samsung Tabs and not Techno? And am very certain RIM doesn't even know if Techno exist. I'll prefer a USED and ABUSED Samsung Tab to a brand new Techno watever.
Absolutely ridiculous assertion and I think this is the problem we have with the neo-rich dudes. You read the headline without bothering to read details. BBM is coming to ANDROID devices, not just Samsung. What that means is any device which runs on Android (4.0 above) will be able to download the cross-platform BBM from the google play store. I hope you correct that misstatement, or at least you come here to retract your statement when you get confirmation next month.

Gosh!

caukerzee: Yes. Follow the link I posted and view for yourself or a simple google search will do.
I saw this on the same bloomberg site and it encapsulates my thought on the cheap vs expensive smartphones and why we're paying more for so much less. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-07-21/high-end-smartphone-boom-ending-as-price-drop-hits-apple.html

Let me quote an interesting paragraph from it:

“The days of great growth in the high end of the market are gone,” said Michael Morgan, an analyst at ABI Research. “It’s the Chinese companies who know how to survive on tiny margins that are ready for the fight that’s about to ensue.”

And another one:

“The market is becoming less about speeds and feeds, and more about price,” said Kevin Restivo, an analyst at IDC in Toronto. “More people don’t need to be overwhelmed by a phone, so long as it’s good enough.”

That's all.

Get your facts right. They are not in the same league tecnologically. Dumb r-e-t-ard. Go celebrate that you ve finally learnt something. What a waste of sperm. Bloody retard!
Just to confirm, are you saying South Korean is technologically more advanced than China?

You still haven't tested it on the N9. Sorry, the issue is I bought one for the same price last wkend and it didn't work so I wanna be sure it's tested and trusted with this device.

techfreak: lol...! Guy na only u wey never hear of d Sony Xperia Tablet Z? Many dey with back cam of 8MP but with a front cam @ 2MP
I thought I was clear enough in my communication. I didn't say it didn't exist, I said I haven't seen any. And I assure you this is the first time in hearing about this. I'll read it up and note the price vs spec.

And pls, you can't compare two phones without considering the prices if there's a huge gap between the two.
PhonesRe: Tecno Phantom N9 (Tab) discussion thread by mcgboye(m): 3:56pm On Aug 06, 2013
Josh802: Tecno should bring up another tab and give it a ram of 2Gb nd a rom of 32Gb nd 1.7GHz and of course a led flash and a super amoled screen .
This is the specs of iPad 4: http://www.gsmarena.com/apple_ipad_4_wi_fi_+_cellular-5071.php
It's 1GB RAM and a 1.4GHz processor. It sells for over 120k.
Also, I have not seen any tab with a back-camera more than 5MP and a front camera more than 2MP.

Are you willing to pay at least that amount if Tecno produces the tab with the specs you desire?
PhonesRe: Tecno Phantom N9 (Tab) discussion thread by mcgboye(m): 1:58pm On Aug 06, 2013
Onosy: Thanks...Would have picked mine but just that I'm getting the feeling that Tecno will release another Tab sooner that later...in the next few weeks if not days.....I got their first Android Device T1... I will wait for the next Tab maybe till this month ending cheesy
LOL. I thought of that for over a week before finally buying it. Even if they bring a new tab out tomorrow assess if it's something significantly better than this before buying it. This one will be used by the missus anyway. The point is if you keep waiting for their next device, you may end up notbuying until next year (of course i think they'll bring another one within the next two months). It's a very good device and i really can't wait for their next device. Hopefully it'll be nice.

klens: The problem I have with Lagos base is the distance, but if you can pay N500 shipping with Transport company, to Lag, we will do business. I will go check tomorrow how much they will charge to take it to Lag, since the item is not big
Let me know. I may just order for more than one, maybe four so i can give some people who i've convinced to get the N9. Let me know pls. Also, since you're helping people to get the N9, I'm sure you can test the Stylus so you're sure it works with it.

My name is McGboye, and I endorse this surmission below. LOL.
It's what I've been saying for the past two weeks!

adaye: The funny thing is that it is wrong to compare the N9 with the GT2 or Samsung with Techno. The tablets are not in the same category size and specs wise as the two firms are also in vastly different categories. Techno is an upcoming mobile device maker and can best be appreciated when compared with other new branded makes in the market. Their devices especially new offerings like the N7,F7 and the N9 tab are great buys at the prices offered. However it would be unfair to overlook the fact that the offerings from the industry leaders Samsung etc are superior in areas of screen quality, internal memory etc though not necessarily build quality.

The important consideration for the average buyer should be if these justify the huge gulf in expenditure in choosing between a device by techno over a device from an industry leader like Samsung or LG for example when the techno will perform same tasks capably. I currently use a galaxy note 10.1 and a N9 and can state that while the note 10.1 has a better UI, higher pixellation, screen protection etc, the N9 matches it in terms of speed. Web page loading and app loading are virtually the same as I have compared side by side and the n9 has never lagged or freezes in my 4 weeks of usage. In addition the shortcomings in its ui and screen quality are really noticable only to the discerning user. Build quality for both devices is impeccable.

The bottom line is that devices made by samsung ,lg etc have higher specs in certain areas and have superior user interfaces (due to modification of the stock android interface) and should be at their prices. Techno and co however offer cheaper alternatives that may lack certain features (which will not be missed by then average user) but still get the job done. The endless comparison is unnecessary as they are not yet competitors. They cater to different consumer demographics. They both make good products for their target market. Buyers should however always consider two things - need and budget. My closure is this- with my experience with the n9 at 36,500 will I buy say a galaxy note at 85,000. Probably not as the gulf in pricing does not justify the specs difference in the two for a discerning user like me.

Thank you.

PhonesRe: Tecno Phantom A+ Discussion Thread by mcgboye(m): 7:40am On Aug 06, 2013
I've always comapared the A+ to the SIII and the Antutu benchmark results confirmed this. Despite the S3 coming out tops in most of the criteria, I think it compares favorably when you compare the huge price differential.
PhonesRe: Tecno Phantom N9 (Tab) discussion thread by mcgboye(m):
I'm thinking of doing an article to address the incessant use of the term "high-end" to describe expensive Samsung devices. I'll share it here. It's not meant to court argument but to address basic facts grossly overlooked by people who make these assertions.

For example, did you know that the total cost of producing ONE unit of Samsung Galaxy S4 is $237 (N39,000) and this is actually more than the cost of producing a unit of iPhone 5 (around $209). You can check it out here: http://www.businessinsider.com/samsung-galaxy-s4-manufacturing-cost-2013-5

But S4 was sold for N105,000 at launch in Nigeria and $600 elsewhere, onstensibly due to massive admin cost which the likes of Tecno and Gionee avoid by doing little advert and promo.

Again, this isn't meant to cause unnecessary online bickering. I only thought I should put the fact out there so that people who feel a smartphone is high-end simply because it is expensive will have a rethink.
