@Fidelism, depending on which unit you've indicated interest in working in, the pay is between 105k-117k or thereabout. If you're in Audit/Tax and have not been chartered, pay is 105k. Other units that do not require ICAN is 117k or maybe slightly higher. The amounts are the take home. The disparity in salaries is simply because the firm will enrol and pay all your ICAN related ecxpenses Best of luck to u guys |
Liverpool FC today announced the signing of England Int'l winger Srewart Downing from Aston Villa. The deal is reportedly "in the region of £20m" Is it only me who thinks they're spending huge sums on atrociously average players. Johan Henderson, £20m, Andy Carroll, £35m, Luiz Suarez £23.5m. Of all these, only Suarez is distincly world class and have played at a consistently high level for 4 seasons. Others are all one season wonders, IMO So if Downing is worth £20m, Juan Mata is worth how much? £50m? |
@Ero, Abeg indulge me, but I'd love to know how much u. Finally got the car, and how clean it was and the specs. @payless, at what price do you envisage I would get the car for in 3 mths time, as I will not take a loan to buy a car and money isn't quite up to scratch yet? Thanks |
Nice analyses @ y'all. Maybe this is the reason outrageous prices have been quoted for Toyota Camry '99. Someone toled me N1.1m yday. I just hope cost of clearing a car in Naija will reduce. It's a bottleneck |
Hi, i'm planning to get a car in a month's time and thought you'd help out. How much will full option Toyota 1999 cost? What will fabric also cost? Mcgboye@gmail.com |

At last some sense. I posted the same thing last week on my facebook & twitter pages, and most of my friends/followers disagreed. Most part of Lagos is in an abject state, flood everywhere. Road projects started early last yr are still ongoing. The one in my area started last year March, a road of about half a km. It's not meant to slight him, but he needs to buckle up. I hope this is not another 2nd term syndrome |
I didnt vote GEJ, so maybe d question wasnt directed at me. But at the risk of being pilloried and insulted, permit me to make my comments: 1. We all seem to have forgotten that Gej's reign started in 2009. So everyone calling for "time" should be mindful of this. 2. We still run d most expensive government in the world. If GEJ doesnt see anything wrong wit that, then we may as well pack shop and go to sleep 3. Isnt it laughable that his cabinet has not been formed, almost one month after handing over power to himself? Is it that difficult, or isnt that part of what should have been considered during his campaigning? If he cant handle such basic duty, should we realistically expect him to fix our problems? 4. Why do we allow ourselves to be fooled dat bombings, killings, riotings etc are problems of a part of this country (the North has always been a convenient scapegoat). Isnt that why we voted GEJ, to guarantee our safety. Why do we join him in blaming the opposition(BUHARI et al), instead of calling on him to act decisively and bring ALL perpetrators to book? Have we forgotten? Goodluck is our president, he's the one that is accountable to us, not Buhari. His is an executive position. Let him use his office and stop being a weakling. 5. There are no longer queues at our petrol stations, but kerosene now costs more than petrol n diesel! Isnt that more important to the average Nigerian? 6. Isnt there something that can be done by the executive arm to stop this apparent sharing of our money by legislators? Increasing their allowances at a time Nigerians are groaning is despicable, isnt it? 7. Power Generation, Arent we tired of talking about this? It's been one excuse after the other, from Obj to Yaradua and now GEJ. Endless empty promises. It's not really rocket science, is it? They all seem to use the same tactic, shifting the goal post. 8. The most important comment I have to make is, Could u just make ur points without resulting to insults and name calling on nairaland, pls. Cos if you do, you're really no better than our chair-throwing legislators. This is how it all starts |
I just heard no official announcement has been made and Pres Goodie has not visited d scene yet. I hope it's a lie sha. Someone said the govt is still thinking of ways to involve Buhari in d blame game as it is wont. Again, I hope not. I said it somewhere here 2 months ago dat d problem is d govt's inability to prosecute perpetrators of these acts. They are getting stronger n braver every day. Aso Rock had better watch it. The whip used to beat d first wife is somewhere waiting for d 2nd wife. Trouble is getting closer home |
Didnt know I'd stil have to comment on this, but in light of posts after my comment, i'm forced to. 1. Let me correct a misconception: Nigeria can still qualify as group winners. Currently, we're 3 points behind Guinea to who we lost 1-0. If we beat Mauritius away(a big IF, i know), and Guinea at home by at least a 2-goal margin (which is VERY achievable), we will qualify as group winners on head-to-head at d very least. Of cos we can stil qualify on goals difference with a goal margin victory. 2. Again, some people seem to think (or at least their posts have that message) that as soon as osaze enters the pitch, we will qualify. Haba! Come to think of it, what will happen if he's reinstated and we stil end up not qualifying? Don't forget. He also had issues with Amodu and Lagerback. So it's unbecoming of him, his undoubted talent notwithstanding. 3. What do u think will happen if we manage to qualify? Osaze will beg for forgiveness! That's the plain truth. And then a bigger issue will now ensue: why should he play d Nations Cup at the expense of the players that were there all along? Then we'll stil have another thread here, with people taking sides. 4. Someone said Osaze wil be regretting playing for Nigeria. Really, is that a joke? Are u saying he'd prefer playing for Uzbekistan, who have absolutely no chance of playing ANY international tourney? And talking of Victor Moses et al, what has happened to Gabriel Agbonlahor, who dumped Nigeria for England? Oh oh 5. So let's address a bigger issue. When will we get it right as regards indiscipline in d super eagles? A few examples will suffice: Gabriel Bastituta (remember him) was asked to cut his long hair to be part of d 2002 Argentine world cup team. He scored against Nigeria. Roy Keane was sent home on d eve of d same world cup for insurbodination by d coach, Mick McCarthy, Raul was dropped, in 2007, from d Spanish team for what d spanish press called "negative influence in d dressing room". We could on & on, but the point here is teams have had to drop star players in order to preserve discipline and overall goal of d team. The result on d pitch was secondary. And Osaze's talent pale in comparison with these stars. |

There are fewer things more important than discipline, and it's been the single most serious issue we've had in d super eagles. Who says our problems wil be solved once Osaze steps onto the pitch? Let's face it; beyond d facet of sentiments, the coach has said Osaze hasnt apologised to the team and d FA. He's has only reportedly done so during the interviews wit sports media. The issue here is not his twitter rant, but the fact that he abandoned the team. So what happens if he's let into the team out of desperation yet we end up not qualifying. We would have lost a great chance to solve this great problem. Let's not be swayed by the fantastic season wonder. |
IRONY we've always had enough laws in this country to tackle corruption. What we've persistently lacked is the political will of our leaders to fight the scourge. You look at the calibre of plethora of people (businessmen) who donated to the Goodluck campaign, then you say "yeah!" |
@x-factoria, Do i really need to reply u? I think not, but i'll ask a question that usually bugs me anytime I go through a thread on NL: do u really need to insult someone to make ur point? As in, when will u people learn to be polite? Okay, u also asked if I knew d name of his firm. Haba! Even if I didnt know, i only have to google it. By the way, i also work for a BIG accounting firm (i aint boasting, but u get my point). You're not going to ask me to name my firm's name, are u? Let me address a bigger issue. I think it's time u guys stopped insultin fellow NLanders in order to make ur point. IMO, it is d genesis of our lawmakers throwing chairs at one another in d house; this is how it starts. |
You wouldnt think Amosun was naive or silly before making that declaration. He is a chartered accountant of long-standing repute, and a great disciplinarian (i should know cos we're related). Years of misrule by past governments have led us to believe it is undoable. IT IS! We do not only need him make education free, but guarantee quality learning. If students are not serious, no one will blame him. Friends who served in the North told me education in most states there is free, yet it doesnt mean the students are serious. But at the very least, it guarantees d right of children to (quality) education. We need to applaud not only this move, but more than that, ensure the numerous campaign promises he made are carried out to d letter. As a relative, it'll be a disgrace for a social critic like me if he fails. My friends will simply kill me with their yabbings. someone said he wasnt happy with his renaming of d radio & tv stations. Well, there u have it; Your governor is "old-school". Maybe he believes the best morals have been eroded since d 70s. Cue d cloth he word @ his inauguration (an agbada given to his dad by his granddad in 1941 and then to him). Maybe i'm being prejudiced because we're related, but it is my wish that he performs to d expectation of d indegenes. The people spoke wit in d family and within Abeokuta on sunday seem to believe he will perform. |
Once again, the name of Buhari comes up, even when it is glaring that this government is not doing anything to curb this act of bombing. It didnt start this year, in case anyone needs reminding. I'm just sick n tired of having to blame Buhari for every one of our problems. Our government gets away with its apparent inactivity and we're fooled into believing it's Buhari's fault. Like the hell we voted for Buhari. Goodluck Ebere Jonathan is our president, and therefore our chief security officer. We need to start holding him responsible for our security problems. |
Well, in Ogun state where I just came back having gone to witness the swearing-in (not handing-over since OGD chickened out), the crowd was crazy. I was told it is the highest turnout for any event in the state. On my way back to Lagos, the state radio made some announcements. The state tv station, Gateway TV, is back to its former name, OGTv. Gateway radio is back to OGBC2. Ijebu Ode stadium is now to be known as Dipo Dina stadium. Also, there is free healthcare for all pregnant women and children age 0-5 and adults above 70. Unconfirmed reports also have it that primary education is now free. |
By dropping our most in-form striker, and against a first class opponent like Argentina no less, we've sent a strong message to all our stars: no act of indiscipline will be spared! And Osaze had better be warned. He had the same issue with Amodu and Lagerback. |
I attend one of the "orthodox" churches, and the statement of receipts is published every week in the sunday bulletins given to every member. There are auditors (who are not nessarily financial accountants) who monitor the accounts. Annually, there is a "Vestry" meeting where members meet and deliberate on the statement of accounts. My late dad used to take special interest in how the monies were kept and spent. And there are branches all over Nigeria, especially the villages. Gospel is not preached by taking jets to these locations, since they all have resident pastors who take care of affairs. Maybe it'll be wrong for me to criticise another pastor of another church which members are happy with, but then I guess our wealthy politicians too have private businesses, so I have no locus standi to criticise them too. |
I'm an accountant, and i know the reason why religious and educational institutions dont pay taxes is because they're supposed to be non-profit making, established to improve the psyche of members and students. I think Nigeria is losing a lot revenue by not subjecting SOME churches to taxes. A church which members are reported to be unable to afford its school fees should probably be subjected to tax. And seeing that many of our religious institutions are widely known to be profit making ventures, i think there should be a level of income above which they are subjected to tax, the same rate as a sold proprietorship (20%). I'm talking generally here o o. |
So because people in, say, US pay N130 I also have to pay the same here in Naija, even though their per capita income is more than 10times ours. All these IMF apologists dont know the most simple fact about economic relativity: which is that economic policies have to be applied considering the peculiar conditions of each state/country. That's why in Lagos I pay for my electricity while my friend in Adamawa claims government pays for electricity in that state. |
The Messiah, a terrific novel, is at the top of my list. Others are the John Grisham classics: The Rainmaker, the chamber, A time to kill, the runaway jury, the client, the testament. Also, Angel n Demon. Etc. Nigerian novels that i read as part of high school compulsory literature include Rainbows are for Lovers, Second Chance, ade goes to school (pry sch) etc |
I think we need to understand CPC's "rigging" claim. While I still think GEJ would have won anyway, esp the 2/3 requirements. However, their claim is based on the (actual voters)/(registered voters) ratio. Let me put it in perspective: in Lagos, we had 6.3mil voters. Out of this, slightly less than 2mil people voted. That's like 32%, which is about the same as the figure for the guber elections. Their (CPC) claim is dat the voter turn out ratio in SE/SS is abt 80% or more, despite the reported low turn out as seen in the news. If this is true, then maybe they have a locus standi. However, they are entitled to contest the results in the court of competent jurisdiction. We should not pillory them for taking this option. Meanwhile, I suggest we call on GEJ and his team to give us all they promised during the campaign, and much more. This include protection of lives and properties and not blaming others for formenting problem. We will no longer be swayed by the pitiable story of "growing up without shoes" and the likes. This is business. The PDP escaped the wrath of Nigerians by presenting GEJ and parading him as an example of a "fresh air" we've been waiting for. Next time, they might (WILL) not be as lucky. |
I woke up to discover the moderators have succumbed to common sense and removed this thread from the home page. The next thing is to start praying that President Goodluck will bring to justice all people involved in the barbaric acts against the Nigerian people, and stop being a weakling. That's the way some people see him, and he needs to show us he is in charge. That way, everyone will be careful before even slapping his fellow countryman. |
Having followed nairaland's politics closely for 2 months, i've come to d conclusion that the moderators of the section are directly to blame for d abuse that goes on here. Look @ the topic for example, "Buhari's CPC sues Jega, INEC". Why didnt the thread owner just say CPC. It is very inciting! And for all the members of the forum who always blame Buhari for everyone of Nigeria's problem, read the opening post very well. Clearly, it was the party (and not Buhari!) that is suing! And i'm stil suprised that our govt has successfully convinced (or is it confused) us into believing it was Buhari who caused the post-elections riots in the North. Really? When did buhari become our security officer? Was he the one that caused the myriad of unsolved bombings in the country before n during the elections? No single person has been prosecuted for this. In my opinion(i may be wrong), our failure to arrest, prosecute and punish the perpetrators of these bombings only gave the demons in the North power to believe they could do whatever they liked and get away with it. And Buhari's loss at the elections only gave then an opportunity to carry out the barbaric act. I think we should stop making excuses for our public servants. My president (and therefore my chief security officer) is Goodluck, not Buhari. It's him I will hold responsible for my safety. |
It's clear that the moderators of this forum have their preferences, and more often than not it's jaundiced. That is the only reason this could have made front page, and it only confirms my fears @ the height of the elections, that some people have an agenda. Cos there's nothing valid in the report. Nairaland should have gone beyond this. It's cheap publicity. |
Well, I'm sick of this sort of news. This is about the 15th bomb blast this year, and our government has yet to find a solution. No single person has been prosecuted, giving these idiots confidence to go on with their barbaric acts. We have spent the past 2mths talking about elections without discussing the key issue of insecurity, esp in the North. For me, this was why those northern maggots (which are only a small percentage of northerners I believe) had the gut to unleash such level of mayhem. The most worrying part of it all is that our govt has been blaming others (read: Buhari) for the riots instead of performing its basic social responsibility: security of lives. I am personally sick of hearing Buhari being blamed for the mayhem in the North. Let GEJ find solution to this (and other myriad of problems we are facing). Afterall, he is our president, not Buhari/Bakare/ Ribadu. The time to act is now. |
I think we should stop calling ourselves names in this medium. The election results have been announced, and we've got to move on. The choice has been made to entrust the next 4 yrs in GEJ(and PDP), and even though I believe we did not make the best decision, we've got to hope(perhaps against hope), that History will judge us well. However, permit me to appeal to us all to critically look at the complaints of the CPC and ACN. It's practically impossible to have had a turnout of over 80% in any of the state, especially given the reported cases of low number of voters, and this seems to be the crux of their complaints. It may be key to ensuring the elections of 2015 are better than these. Even though i'm not too optimistic, I pray that the president-elect will prove people like me wrong and break the shackles of the PDP that have for so long derailed our collective progress. Nigeria's problem can be summarized into 2: corruption and power supply. Interestingly, it is my belief that if u solve the first, the second one is done. Let us all give him our support so we can move this country forward. Somehow, we need him more than he needs us. April 16, 2011: History will judge us |
