adaye: I believe the essence of this forum is to inform users and especially give real life usage scenerios. I restate that the N9 accepts OTG and can be used with a multi port USb which is readily available from any major computer accessory dealer. I am in my 3rd week plus of using my N9 alone as previously stated. As I post my 1.5 TB is connected as it is once I step into the office till my exit. I can easily transfer files to and fro using my file manager app. No lag no freezes etc.

The reason I guess no one can confirm/refute my statements is probably because rather than test for themselves people prefer to make statements on assumptions not fact. I bought my OTG cable and multi port without knowing the N9 could support it and was pleasantly surprised. I would advice owners who are interested in OTG functionality to take the plunge and verify for themselves. Would be owners could inquire from major dealer who should be able to corroborate.

Thank you

Over and out.
Before you make your exit (LOL), pls send me your number/email address through the PM. I think it makes sense for me to try out this device. I should get it tomorrow.

Cheers v

biz2get: exactly ... but some animals open threads to do stupid comparison
I get your point. But then, I wouldn't blame people who are praising the A+ because, let's face it, on the surface it can do just about anything the so- called high end phones can do. And the price is wonderful.

My problem actually is people trying to point out what the S3 has that this phone doesn't. The comparison with gionee, in my opinion, makes much more sense because the prices are close.

And nobody should say we shouldn't factor prices when comparing phone. When one device costs 35k and another costs 90k, then the price is a BIG factor when comparing them.
PhonesRe: Tecno F7 (Phantom A1) Discussion Thread by mcgboye(m): 12:08am On Aug 02, 2013
Let me post this maybe these guys can stop the insults and say something else.

What I find absolutely ridiculous is the people expecting a N35k device to perform the same way as a N95k device. Isn't that a joke? In fact, there shouldn't be a basis for comparison ab initio.
PhonesRe: Tecno F7 (Phantom A1) Discussion Thread by mcgboye(m): 11:16pm On Aug 01, 2013
At least 15 out of the last 20 comments on this thread have been insults. You guys really need to look at that, look at yourselves and stop this. You're really derailing the thread and I'm sure there're better ways to catch fun.

I read on Engadget that BBM is already being tested on Android. Here is the link: http://www.engadget.com/2013/08/01/blackberry-begins-bbm-beta-for-android/#comments

It seems it's only a matter of time...

Chai, you people are still at this? Com'on. Insults are becoming over-rampant on this thread.

Personally, I think people should be left to enjoy theirr phones without being constantly reminded they're not using "high-end" smartphones. Of cos the definition of "high-end" is entirely subjective and it's open to all manner of prejudice.

Godvilla seems to know a lot aabout smartphones, therefore his experience is maybe valuable for people who want to customise their phones to suit their use. However, I do agree that he seems to be in most of the Tecno threads, mostly to show why the phone isn't good and sometimes why gionee is better. This in itself isn't entirely bad, except that after sometimes people tend to see such person as waging a campaign of calumny against tecno. I enjoy most of your inputs, but maybe you should tone down the perceived attacks against Tecno phones and the uses. You see, there's almost nothing you can say to change the mind of someone who is using and totally enjoying his experience with his phone.
I hope you don't take this as a dig at you. Who knows, I may end up buying a Gionee device after I dispose of this rigid iPhone 4s

adaye: I am currently using the techno tab and I have to correct some of the assertions above. Firstly the battery life for the tab is excellent and lasts more than a day of fairly heavy usage. I have used mine to watch a 3 hour movie and browsed for 2 hours on a full charge and still had a 40% charge. In fact i have used my ereader for 2 hours on a 24% charge browsed for an hour and still had an 11% charge.

Furthermore the tablet supports OTG. I have a multi port OTG which works perfectly with my keyboard and mouse at the same time.

I would appreciate if posters will take time to actually handle a device prior to posting as many users of this forum rely on information obtained here to guide them in making purchases.
Hi Adaye, kindly respond to the queries on the OTG thingy. If it's a mistake from your part, pls state it.
Like I've repeated here, almost to the point of sounding like a broken record, the testimony/experience of the user of a device is more valid that what a million experts/professionals/sellers say. Some people are here for personal business gains or simply because they like or don't like a brand

Meanwhile, there's an app on google play called WRITE which my colleague just downloaded on her galaxy note and she could use stylus to write on it. Just for note taking.

Can someone using the Tecno Tab N9 check to see if this app is compatible with it?

Many thanks

I wrote this somewhere and thought i should share here:

FICTION:

I have N50k and I really wish to buy a Tab with at least 8 inches and that works very well for my needs. If I could get some change after buying this, for data purchase and credit to call my babe, better.

I approach the phone store (say SLOT) and I look at the tabs on display. I give details of my plan to the attractive Shop Attendant and she tells me I can get some tabs for that amount and still have enough change left for the other stuff. So she points me to a tab on the display with something like "Tecno" written on it, and I was like, what's that? Anyway I ask the shop attendant what kinda tab it is and the specs. She mumbled some details I scarcely understand and then tells me it will do ALL the job I have listed, and some more. I asked her how much it costs and she says N35k. I looked back to be sure he wasn't talking to someone else then faced him again. Are you freaking joking? No sir, she replied in a respectful manner. I asked her to repeat the details just to be sure and she confirms what she said earlier, with some other juicy details she forgot to mention the first time. She tells me there are other similar devices going for the same price but Tecno has a Customer Service centre in Lagos where all my queries are addressed, especially if my complaint is within the warranty period. I immediately pay for the device - I don't want her to realise she has given me the wrong price (maybe she had too much to drink). I also bought some other accesories after doing some calculation to check if my spending is still within budget.

You see where this is going? I don't give a damn what other devices can do or how much they cost. This device is cheap for my pocket, does exactly what I want it to do and some more. My friend has a 140k iPad, another has a 90k Samsung Tab but I also have a device which works for me just fine.

I painted the above scenario to explain exactly why people should just enjoy whatever device they bought that suits their budget and their needs.
The key words: BUDGET and NEEDS.

NB: I don’t have a tab, yet.

From all I've read here, it does seem that people are enjoying this gadget, and most people who naturally post negative stuff about Tecno are finding it difficult to nail this. That for me is pretty impressive.

From all indication, the main thing Tecno has to do now is to work on providing OS Update capability for their devices (even that in itself shouldnt be a deal breaker).

I don't use a Tecno device, but i'm impressed.
PhonesRe: Tecno F7 (Phantom A1) Discussion Thread by mcgboye(m): 9:57am On Jul 26, 2013
I should ordinarily post this in the Android 4.3 thread, but to buttress my earlier posts on OS updates not being necessary MOST times.

I just went through the official android site for details of the 4.3 Jelly Bean OS just announced (See it here: http://www.android.com/about/jelly-bean/), and I really don't understand why I would want to update my OS if I'm currently on 4.2 for example.

Without any shred of doubt, the upgrade from 4.1 to 4.2 makes a lot more sense than 4.2 to 4.3

Maybe I'm being naive. I don't have an android device and I don't know much about the OS. But on the basis of what is on this official page, then if i was a Tecno A1+ (for example, with Android 4.2) user I wouldn't be too concerned with upgrading to 4.3

Lord_Reed: She should get a Galaxy Note 8.0, why is she looking for a "chinko" tab with a stylus?
I convinced her that, for the usage to which she intends to put the device, it makes more sense to buy a "chinko" N9 that costs less than 40k and does the job than paying 80k for a device, whilst not significantly better, will not be fully utilised.

It's common sense. It's why I don't get the point of all these debates.

zinoo: Na wa o!what do u need the stylus for? Are ur finger tips not more comfortable than a stylus? Plz upgrade.
Thanks. I introduced the N9 to a female colleague based solely on what i've read about it online but apparently the deal breaker for her is the stylus. She desperately wants a tab she can use a stylus with.
PhonesRe: Tecno F7 (Phantom A1) Discussion Thread by mcgboye(m):
People go on and on about OTA and OS updates not being available for Tecno users. But are there significant improvements for every new OS release? I think not. I have a friend who uses one old tecno (i think their first smartphone) and with his Android 2.3.something, he still accessed the google play last time we talked. Someone here uses a D5 with Android 4.0 and of cos he is still able to access the 700,000+ apps on google play. I don't think OTA should be a deal breaker, unless your usage requires you to migrate to the very latest OS. This isn't the case in most case.

And in any case, you're not going to use your smartphone for more than 2 years. I know people who cannot buy the S3 when there's S4, even though in my opinion the differences aren't so significant to justify the 40k extra you'll pay it. 4 of my colleagues use the S4, two use the S3. Apart from the fact that, to the untrained eyes at least, there's not much noticeable differences, only one of those people using S4 uses the air gesture and the other paparazzi.

I think, like it's been said here severally, unless you really have to spend 100k on a device, there's absolutely nothing wrong (and there's everything sensible) in buying a phone that addresses you requirements 100%.

To keep comparing phones with such huge price differentials doesn't really make so much sense IMO.

Given the specs, strengths and limitations of the Phantom A1, Would Samsung have sold the same device at the price A1 is going forhuh

Your guess us as good as mine.
