Pls I need someone to tell me more about Coventry University UK. Is it really a nice school and cost friendly??
What kinda job can I get once I get there??
Well, I am currently studying at Coventry University. The workload won't make me say anything nice right now (just kidding) but I guess it's the same with all UK schools. Coventry is nice. You'll mostly be doing warehouse jobs mostly outside Coventry. Common places are Leicester, Lutterworth, Nuneaton and Rugby. There are care jobs too if you like. Working won't be a problem. The only issue you might have is getting your full 20hrs of work since most shifts are 8hrs long.

lol, 3million naira be looking like a chicken change. well, i quite understand sha.

about the German school i am actually considering language barrier
You'll need to deposit your maintenance fees in a locked German account if you wanted to go with the Germany option and the 3m might still not be enough.
If you don't really mind where and you wish you wish to study something computer related, you could research on studying in Estonia. There's a thread on nairaland that has all the information you need.
Alternatively, you could try applying for ptdf scholarships in Nigeria. I know a couple of people here on that scholarship.

@ oga justwise, olowo b and others, Plz how do i receive money from nigerian to the UK. What is the most preferred means .Thanks
Do you mean you're in the UK and you want to receive money from Nigeria? There are a number of ways to do that. You could try RIA or moneygram. They have become extremely difficult to use recently though. Another way is to go through exchangers. Hope this helped

I told him 'not yet' and also if one packs food and clothes together won't they still scatter your bags like they use to and check under? Plz what's the difference. Thanks
Difference is they won't see everything at once and feel like you packed so much.

Hello all. I got to the UK yesterday 21st September. Flew medview airline @N172k, landed at Gatwick. They wanted to kill us with food. Lol
One advice, when you're packing your bags, do not use pack foods and clothes in separate bags. Maybe put some clothes on top of the food. Nigerian customs asked for a 4k bribe and I eventually dropped 2k after some begging. (Buhari should look into this. Lol).
At the border, queue was extremely long. The IO only asked what I came for, what course I'm studying, at which school, if I already have accommodation. Then he wished me a nice stay!

And lo and behold, i got up thinking of how the interview will look like and to be honest i was pretty tensed. Thinking of how i will twist my lips and unleash some queen's English. Omor no be small tension grab me like girl wey dey grab shawama. At about 9 am, i got a call from a lady at ukeas informing me that i will need to photocopy my documents and have a passport too but on a second though i contacted Mcstar and she told me she didnt do all that. Well i was like to be on the safe side let me just do photocopies.
Left the house around to 10 to make photocopies but got to some business centres and their machines were all bad...omor na that time i know say the devil wey dey watch me dey watch with better HD and na 3D him dey use sef grin grin. Past ten i still dey waka round dey find where to photocopy and around 10:45am i got a place and make the photocopies of which at the end of the day i didnt submit.
Got a cab to take me to the TLS Abuja and at that point i know the devil had remixed his plan for me that day. I was like e no go happen for you. This cab guy didnt even know where i was going...he was busy taking me round and round as if i came for a tour round Abuja. I kept on telling this young man that i have an interview by 11.30 and need to be there by 11.15. I kept losing patience cos it was beginning to piss me off. by 11:12 i was able to locate the building from afar and thats how we were able to locate the venue. Was supposed to give the guy 300naira but i didnt know when i jumped out of the cab and gave him 200naira and ran straight to the gate.. A couple of guys ran to me all in the name of making photocopies, what was in my mind at that moment was just crazy.
Straight to the interview.. well i checked in then got to the reception and checked in my application form and passport...got all my documents in a bag provided by the staff there. Saw some guys forming janded...some chics forming janded and forming over-Behind.. I was like who out of all these people is a nairalander. i was as mute as a mice. Had my biometrics then went to the waiting room for my interview.
When it got to my turn, i walked majestically like a guy who is walking down the aisle...no be small aisle... tongue tongue..... I walked into the room and sat down, picked up the headset and started the interview with a white guy...probably via skype. I expected the normal though.
- My name and date of birth
- What course i did in my undergraduate
- Why the UK
- Why Coventry
- Did u send in an IELTS or TOEFL (Well i told him i sent in my WAEC)
- and of what relevance the course will be to me.
At the end we exchanged pleasantries, and na so i give the guy better thumbs up unto niggar na...lololzzzzz... and indeed he smiled.

Hopefully am expecting a positive decision Godwilling and surely my transcript will come up once again.

Thanks guys, justwise (my boss wey don dey beef me for months now...I still love u shaa)...olowoB...this dude idi toomuch...Mcstar...inshort na better hussy wey God go dash u soon..will catch u with u soon...MrsDaniels...Inshort na MrsFizzile u supoz dey answer sef.. u toomuch.. And to all those that chipped in one advice or the other, it shall surely end well. Am positive.
Your visa is on its way. See you next week.

There are current accounts, savings accounts, and fixed deposit bonds. Most fixed deposit bonds allow unlimited deposits but pay 1-2% interest, the savings account that give 4-5% interest have an upper limit restriction on deposits, mostly no more than £3000. There are other savings account that allow unlimited deposits, but they pay 0.5-2% interest. Some current accounts pay interest, albeit very little.
Thanks. I understand now.

The highest you are probably going to get is about 4%, and even that is not guaranteed. Most banks offer savings rates below 1%.
Ok. Thank you. But is there any other way one can get interest or something of sort from one's deposit?
TravelRe: Nigerian Students In The Uk How Do You Survive? by mcstar(f): 12:18pm On Sep 06, 2016
claremont:
If you are not going to need access to your money for a good few months, you are better off leaving it in a fixed deposit in Nigeria. I believe fixed deposits in Nigeria give rates of >10%, you wouldn't get that rate in UK. You might get a savings account in UK that would pay 5%, but it would come with a restriction to how much you can deposit i.e. most of them do not allow large deposits >£3000. There is no money to be made in cash savings/deposits in UK. If you are not interested in the interest, you can open a deposit account in any bank in UK with your ID and address details.
Thanks for your prompt reply. I just need to get something tight. Do you mean there's a difference between deposit account and savings account? You know, here we have savings and current accounts(not sure if there are others)

Hi everyone.
Please does anyone know how fixed deposit works in the UK? The interest rate, minimum amount to start with and if a non-citizen can fix money there?

Thanks for the response. Please I have few more questions please. For those who took IELTS test, on the test report form, there's nothing like award reference number and there's a box where you have to fill your award reference number when filling your visa form online. Am I supposed to put the number that says "UKVI number" on the IELTS form of the number that says "test report form number"
It's the test report form number.

Going for my interview tomorrow and just filled my self assessment form. I mistakingly filled the part for under 18s...my question is can I use a correcting fluid on it or I have to reprinthuh
If you can reprint, just do so. Don't give them a chance to try anything funny. It could seem like you're not sure of the information you're giving since you already did the same online and you're now putting something different on paper. Just my opinion

I am sincerely happy for everyone who has gotten hid/her visa and I pray that all the awaitings* will come here to share their good news soon!

However, I am a bit depressed that I won't be able to travel this September as I wasn't able to save the required 28days maintenance deposit due to this crazy forex palaver. This means the TB test is a waste and my half-tuition fee scholarship will be forfeited. I am not happy! sad cry

(sorry for the nagging, guys).
So sorry. Maybe you should inform your school about this.

Guys, please which one is self assessment form? Just hearing that.
That's the form VAF9. You'll find it on the gov.uk site under visas and immigration. It contains all the questions you'll answer online during your application. You'll have to print it and fill by hand. It's the first thing that will be collected from you along with the photocopy of your data page at the reception.

Hi everyone, being a silent observer for sometime...but everything I have read here has been most helpful. So thanks..
However, I have a small issue ; I was at my bank today (gtb) and was told I could only pay my visa application fee and Surcharge using a dollar card which I don't have...so who knows what banks or bank would let one pay the total thing in a day...I know this question has been asked like a million times, but I was just wondering...like who has paid most recently and what bank naira card did u use, if u did. Also can one pay for a value added service in cash on the day of their appointment in abuja?
Thanks.....smiley
I paid for my visa and ihs fees using gtb naira card so I'm not aware of this new development. You can try paga. It's one of the acceptable modes of payment on their website. A friend of mine paid thru paga. As for value added services, you can pay at the center on the day of your appointment but not in cash. You can pay with your card.
