My able governor ride on |
During the trying times of kidnapping, de government did amnesty and we discussed with the kidnappers one-on-one and were discovered that all of them were youths, very young people and most of them told us their grievances. Some of them said it was because of lack of job, some mentioned family problems, some mentioned other problems. So the state got this idea that if you can get the youths together, particularly, those who are not doing anything and empower them, even if you cannot give them jobs because it is not easy to give all of them government jobs, you can at least give them skills, you can give them implements with which they can feed or fend for themselves. It was this encounter de governor would say increased his passion to take care of the youths, to make them to be useful to the society and to help us also to maintain the needed security and peace. |
Governor t a orji has really do well in empowering the youth of Abia not only with cars or bus also with laptops ETC
|
Yes he can, governor t a orji has fulfilled 80% of has campaign promise, I belive soon there will be Airport in Abia state |
The allegations are phony. They can only provoke, at the best, angry laughter. It is rather ironic that those who underdeveloped Abia State and grossly mismanaged her resources from 1999-2007, should be the ones criticizing a performing and well loved administration. I tell you this for a fact, that the present administeration of Governor T A Orji is touching the lives of the people in a most impactful manner. Abians, who are not blinded by partisan considerations and mischievous objectives, know and attest to the developmental strides of th Governor T A Orji in the state. Those who hold contrary opinion are by far in the minority. Apart from being in the minority, they have delibrately refused to be objective in the opinion. Now, let me tell you, the person who cannot point to any project, which he executed in Abia State during his eight years in power, cannot be the one alleging non-performance by the present administration. Chief Orji Uzor Kalu’s contribution to the development of Abia, if any, is a classic example of how to develop yourself, your family, and by extension, impoverish the state. The roads and projects he built and commissioned, if any, can only be seen and their locations known by him. Contracts were awarded and fully paid for but were executed on paper. Nobody can see or point to a single thing he did with our money. Under Orji Kalu, what existed was a culture of impunity never seen before in any part of the world. But, we promise Abians that everybody will account for his or her actions. We know those who are seeking attention the very way a fish that is out of water seeks oxygen. These allegations are purely for the purpose of causing mischief. |
There are 100-bed hospitals for each of the 17 local government councils in the state. There are also 250 health centres located in all the electoral wards in the state. Workers in Abia, for the first time, are getting a befitting Secretariat they will be proud of. Even the dilapidated old structure built by the Federal Government after the creation of the state, has been renovated and upgraded by Governor Orji. Abia Liberation Farms have been established to employ over 1000 jobless youths. The Abia Youth Empowerment Programme of Governor Orji has impacted so much on the lives of the poor and previously aimless youths. The youths rather, than engage in crimes, are now happily and gainfully employed which makes the environment safe for everyone. On the construction and rehabilitation of roads, about 60 roads have been worked on and made motorable. After the rains, more roads will be worked on as promised by the Governor. New markets have been built to replace the existing ones that had so defaced Umuahia, the state capital.

Based on what everybody can see on the ground, Governor T.A. Orji can't be compared to former governors of the state, though Ochendo is not in competition with anybody. He is only doing what he knows how to do in governance. People are asking what the former governor, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, did with state funds in the eight years he was in office. He built neither did any tangible projects nor did he provide viable amenities. It has become obvious that since the creation of Abia, no past governor has performed as much as Orji. He has distinguished himself. He is the only governor that has really paid attention to important structures that will improve the state. Some of his projects include: the construction of New Government House, Workers Secretariat and the InterBefore the administration of Governor T. A. Orji, no past administration thought it wise to provide solid structures that could give the people a proper sense of belonging. Whenever the Abia State Government organized an important function that involved majority of people in the state, there was no venue that accommodated such a huge number of people except the stadium. For instance, if government wants to have a town hall meeting with the people, you cannot hold town-hall meeting at the stadium. Presently, major national conferences are seldom held here simply because there are no comfortable venues to accommodate a large number of people like you have in other state capitals such as Enugu, Port-Harcourt, Lagos, Ibadan and recently Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State Capital. When the Abia International Conference Centre is completed, many organizations both local and International, will be having their conferences, seminars and workshops here in Umuahia, including major wedding ceremonies by well-to-do people. The Umuahia International Conference Centre being built by Chief T. A. Orji is the best in the country, maybe only second to the Federal Government's International Conference Centre in Abuja. Today, the state boasts of several monumental projects that would stand as legacies of Ochendo many years after he has left office as governor of Abia. national Conference Centre. The industrial market has since taken off, the New Motor Spare Parts Market and Mechanic Village at Ohiya in the Umuahia South Local Government Area is booming with activities. The relocation of the Umuahia Main Market to its new site at Ubani Ibeku will decongest the Umuahia city-centre and make room for other developmental projects. |
The state government entered a strategic partnership with Pall Mall which involves a joint funding of the project to achieve its set objectives. In a recent interview, Governor Theodore Orji confirmed that the state government has paid its own part of the funding. “ShopRite is coming to Abia State,” he said. “We have completed everything, paid our own counterpart funding to them and it is left for them to come onboard.” This development, according to analysts, is a major significant socio-economic gain for the hitherto under-developed state. In terms of direct and indirect employment, this project when completed stands to significantly depopulate the labour market in Abia State and convince hesitant investors to take the plunge. Samuel Eke, a financial analyst, commends the state government for proactively engaging the retail giant and fast-tracking talks to get to this stage. “Last year, ShopRite announced that it would be investing N32 billion on property developments in Nigeria to overcome lack of infrastructure and capitalise on rising consumer spending,” he said. “Responsible state governments took note of this and began to put in place incentives to attract the retail giant. For Abia, it is indeed a coup to have secured this partnership as apart from Enugu, the retail giant is not present in any other South-Eastern state in the country. I must commend Governor Theodore Orji for taking this step and ensuring that speed is of importance. If this tempo is sustained, we may see the mall commissioned soon. The benefits of this development to residents of Umuahia and indeed surrounding towns cannot be over-emphasised.” ShopRite operates a policy of augmenting dependence on international suppliers by sourcing, promoting and procuring local products. In Abia, local industries thrive and have gained increased visibility in recent times. Some of the entrepreneurs are looking forward to possible partnerships with the retail giant. Ndidi Achonu operates a small factory inside the Aba Leather Cluster zone where African-themed shoes and handbags are produced. “I relocated to Abia from China with my husband in 2009 to start this and I can sincerely say that there are no regrets,” she said. “Things were tough initially but I am gradually making an impact here and can now boast of seven employees. If ShopRite comes to this state, I will certainly explore ways of taking this business to the next level because I am confident that my products will make their shelves.” A survey of 700 consumers conducted by Business Day Nigeria during October 2012 found that while price was still crucial to the Nigerian consumer, health considerations were becoming more important. 50% of respondents said that they read the labels of packaged food and beverage products before purchasing them. 39% said that they would like to see more nutritional information, including calorie counts, on restaurant menus. In an era of more sophisticated Nigerian consumers, the development also comes as a relief to residents of Abia, a state notorious for counterfeiting of high-target brands. “For me, I consider this one of the state government’s recent economic initiatives that has really tricked down to the people,” said Ifeyinwa Obodo, a civil servant in the state. “To be able to go to a shop where you have the peace of mind that everything there is guaranteed and you have the luxury of options is a very welcome development. I urge the state government to hasten work on the site so that this can be opened soon. I thank Governor Theodore Orji for making this dream come true

Abia Youth Empowerment Scheme As a Role Model to other state On September 10, 2013, I was going through The Guardian newspaper and saw an advertorial on pages 72 and 73 placed by Abia State government which detailed the 244 recipients of free vehicles courtesy of Abia State Youth Empowerment Programme. Also contained in the advertorial, apart from the names of the beneficiaries, were their personal phone numbers and the vehicles' chassis, engine and plate numbers. It was further stated that apart from the published recipients, another set of beneficiaries would be handed over vehicles by the end of this month. Before the publication I had read in the newspapers, stories of how the Abia State government, through the youth empowerment scheme, had given out several tricycles, sewing machines, computers, cars and others to many unemployed youths in the state. Initially, I thought the publication was a farce and part of the media propaganda or razzmatazz prevalent among governments at all levels ahead of the 2015 general elections. I also recalled once reading articles in newspapers written by Mr. Emmanuel Onwubiko and Mr Odimegwu Onwumere in which they strongly criticized and condemned the youth programme and alleged that the government was giving out rickety vehicles to graduates in the name of youth empowerment in the state. But surprisingly, some of the published beneficiaries of the programme were from Anambra and Imo states who were born, brought up and are still residing in Abia State. To confirm the authenticity of the programme before commenting on it, I put a call through to one of the listed beneficiaries by name, Chinwike Ukpaka from Anambra State. Asked about the kind of vehicle given to him, he said it was a fairly used (Tokunbo) Toyota Camry 2003 model. He said that he was surprised over his selection as one of the beneficiaries, having graduated from university some years ago without any means of livelihood. I asked him if he is a member of PDP in the state, he said no, but he was born and brought up in the state. He further informed that the car is presently being for commercial transportation in the state capital Umuahia. So the question is, in which way has the state government erred through the implementation of the Abia Youth Empowerment Scheme to warrant some cynics and hatchet jobbers to be criticizing it on the pages of newspapers? From every indication, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the programme, especially as it is being used to address the massive unemployment among the youths, which has become prevalent in the country and is today one of the greatest challenges facing the nation. If unemployed graduates can easily engage in kidnapping as confirmed by Mr. Mike Ozehkome (SAN) who was recently released by his abductors in Edo State after being held captive for days, what is wrong in empowering such graduates by giving them free vehicles so that they can use same to earn a legitimate living? If well managed, beneficiaries of such gesture from government do not need any white collar job because they can be employers of labour like great transporters of our time such as Young Shall Grow Motors, Peace Mass Transit, Chisco Transports, The Lord Is Good Motors and others. The collapse of major industries across the country did not begin today; rather it is as a result of long years of neglect by successive governments before now. And it is clear that the industries cannot be fixed overnight because of the huge capital and technical knowhow required, having been neglected for decades. So investing a huge chunk of public funds in their revitalization will surely affect other critical sectors of the economy that also require urgent attention. In this regard, while the Abia State government is working on revitalizing the ailing industries it inherited, her idea of doing something in the immediate to tackle youth unemployment through her youth empowerment scheme should be highly commended. Waiting until the ailing industries are brought back to life before the unemployed youths could be empowered will only create a time bomb. That is why states across the country should adopt the Abia Youth Empowerment Programme Scheme model to pre-empt possible youths restiveness. It is a more practical approach to youth empowerment. Also the long_ term approach, which has to do with the revitalization and construction of industries should be worked on. The Abia scheme is the surest way of taking the unemployed youths out of the streets to reduce crime rate. No wonder the crime rate in Abia State has reduced drastically since the commencement of the programme. The success of the programme is predicated on the fact that it is being carried out in a most transparent manner which has made it difficult for politicians to hijack it for selfish political purposes. There are no middlemen between the beneficiaries and the state government to avoid exploitation and fraud. Despite the baseless criticisms by few hired individuals who have failed to provide clear alternatives, the state government should continue with the programme and also impress it on the in_coming government in 2015 to sustain it, at least pending the final completion of the ailing industries that are undergoing rehabilitation in the state.

Ndi Abia know that there is genuine development going on now in the state. Governor T.A. Orji is fully focused to be distracted. Of course, his laudable record is a testimony and the people of Abia know that it is no longer business as usual. So despite any criticisms agains the administration of TA Orji, the most important thing is that the people know that a high level of propaganda is mounted against Governor T.A Orji but his performance is there to speak for him. |
I will tell you this: the Legacy Projects of Ochendo (Gov T.A. Orji) are uncountable, but let me mention a few. Look at the Abia State Workers Secretariat, International Conference Centre (only the Abuja International Conference Centre is bigger than this one in Nigeria), New Government House, New Umuahia International Market at Ubani-Ibeku, New Timbers market at Isi-Eke, New Mechanic and Artisan Village at Ohiya, various Housing Estates throughout Abia State, the More than 200 Health Centres in every nook and cranny of Abia State, beautiful, Strong and well constructed roads with drainages, New High Court Buildings and Ministry of Justice office Complexes, New Office Complex for Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State with digital and modern equipments and studios, the Abia State Diagnosis Centre, the Abia State Dialysis Centre and the Eye Centre (all in Aba, Umuahia and Amachara), etc. The record is self evident.

Governor T. A. Orji is presently building a new Abia State for the good of all. Though he was confronted at the inception by a monstrous breakdown in the machinery of governance, breakdown of all traditional values of hard work, integrity, honesty, communal and self help spirit, discipline, transparency and accountability in conducting community and government business etc. He has been able to arrest these ugly situations. |
Governor T.A.Orji is not averse to criticisms, especially when they are coming from the opposition. He is never perturbed by negative criticisms from the opposition in the state. The truth is that he remains focused and committed in delivering the dividends of democracy to Abians. In terms of the development of the state, the Governor has shown the zeal and commitment to take Abia State to the next level. |
Things are looking up in Abia State as Governor Theodore Orji’s unprecedented developmental strides continue to magnify the fortunes of the state in all fronts. Like a tidal wave, a positive wind of change is visibly wiping away entrenched decadence and rot, thereby transforming and repositioning the state for greater heights. You can feel the vibe across the landscape and Abians are attesting to the good works of Chief Orji. The Orji magic is in the air as several brand new capital-intensive infrastructure and renovated dilapidated abandoned public facilities spring to life with adorable splendour and magnificence courtesy of His Excellency’s transformative blueprint for the state. |
Ouk administration is the worst thing that happen to all Abians |

What is your gain by tell lies about the state government |
Our attention has been drawn to a publication on Saharareporters by one Don Norman, Obinna who published tissues of lies on Abia State Government after an unsuccessful attempt to extort the sum of 5 million Naira from the State Government. Don Norman who claimed he is from Umuahia and worked for Compass newspapers as an editor told us that he has a publication on Abia, which he will want us to react to immediately. We made efforts to debunk the lies which he had already concocted, but he insisted he will publish. Mr. Don who claimed to be a journalist of repute was invited to Abia in August for the 22nd anniversary of Abia State since he had requested he will want to interview the governor. As a media chat with Journalists is scheduled to be held as part of the anniversary activities. He stated that he has a new magazine which was supposed to have been launched last year but due to lack of funds, hence the need for us to support him. Since we are all from the same Umuahia. We still insisted that he has to come down on August to have a firsthand knowledge of the legacy projects of Chief T.A Orji and also to prove to him that the things he alleged are not true. For instance, he claimed that the Youth Empowerment Scheme buses and cars were paid for by the beneficiaries, again he alleged that the Diagnostic and Dialysis Centers are still ongoing and not completed, not to talk of commissioning. The fact remains that the diagnostic centre was commissioned by President Goodluck Jonathan in 2011 while the Dialysis Centre was commissioned few days ago by the Health Minister, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu. With these allegations we insisted that for us to respond to the questionnaire and to show objectivity as journalist as he claimed to be, he should come to Abia state, with his so called reporters he claimed that came to Umuahia some years ago. What informed our insistence remains the fact that we don’t know who we were talking to judging from the way he was making persistent demands through email, phone calls and text messages which we recorded. However, when Don realized that we were not ready for his cash for blackmail report he boasted that he will deal with the State Government using Sahara reporters. In addition, most of our responses to him refuting all the lies were not even published; rather he distorted facts to please his sponsors. We urge Saharareporters and other online news outfit to always be careful and to have a background check of those who who file in unsubstantiated reports, as it may damage the publications reputation which has been built over the years. Attached are photos of some of the Legacy Projects in Abia State....Completed/Commissioned and ongoing.

Nice legacy by state governor |
A visit to roads in the city such as Brass street, Geometric Access road Azikiwe, Milverton Avenue, and others in Ogbor Hill axis like Umuoba, Obikabia to Obingwa LGA headquarters, Aba “ Ikot Ekpene roads have all been rehabilitated while works on Ehere, and Umuola roads have reached 90% completion. A cross section of people who own shops at some area which hitherto had bad road said the development have brought life back to businesses which suffered as a result of bad roads that cut off their areas and thanked the governor for coming to the rescue of the city which was hit by a network of bad roads. According to a tricycle operator who plies the Aba Main Park to Faulks road route, who gave his name as Ike, “the rehabilitation of Milverton Avenue gave us a lot of relief because you had to go through Aba Owerri road to Asa road or through Azikiwe road to Asa road before connecting Milverton Avenue which serves as the loading bay of luxury bus operators in Aba, it was like doing a double journey before getting to your destination due to the bad state of the Milverton Avenue. I commend Ochendo for rehabilitating the road. We are witnessing a boom in conveying those who come to Ariaria market to buy from other parts of the country like Lagos and the North. It is now easier for us to get to Milverton Avenue and drop at the luxury bus park |

When a person’s ‘dignity’ is restored, the person enjoys enhanced positive image. By virtue of constitutional democracy, every Abian is entitled to certain fundamental human rights such as: (a) Freedom of thought, (b) Freedom of association and (c) Freedom of worship Any time that fundamental right of an Abian or any other individual is violated or denied, it goes a long way to cause psycho-social depression. This, certainly, affects the individual and, therefore, impacts very negatively on his or her character and, by clinical extension, his or her ‘dignity’. I am saying it for the umpteenth time that during the tenure of Kalu as Governor in Abia State, the fundamental rights of many Abians were deliberately and consistently trampled upon. Today, Governor T. A. Orji has given appointments, contracts and other life-support incentives to many Abians without subjecting any of them to any form of oath-taking. This is restoration of ‘dignity’. For the eight years that Kalu presided over the affairs of Abia State, he never gave any quantifiable consideration to the health of Abians, hence he did not think it necessary to erect even a one-bed clinic. Today, we have the international conference centre which is state of the art; we have the Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State (BCA) station which any moment from now, will be commissioned by His Excellency, Governor T.A. Orji. We have a state secretariat that is almost completed; we have a Government House that is on-going; we have ASEPA building which was commissed by the state governor few weeks ago, we have an E-library which is on-going and the Ubani Ibeku Market which is ongoing. That Governor T. A. Orji, a quintessential administrator and an accomplished alumnus of Nigeria’s premier University of Ibadan, has been able to build and equip 250 health centres spread across the State and two functional diagnostic medical centres in Umuahia and Aba,s I speak now, we are upgrading two hospitals, the General Hospital at Amachara and the one at Okikpe and the good news is also that the dialysis centre any moment from now, will be commissioned by Governor T.A. Orji. In fact, it is one of the projects the governor promised Abians during his electioneering campaigns and the cheat clinic that was commissioned few weeks ago by the governor. has definitely tormented Orji Kalu who now perceivesthe governor’s performance as a deliberate design to dump him in the dust bin meant for non-performance. Abia is an oil producing state, courtesy of Ukwa-West Local Government Area. Throughout Kalu’s tenure, every plea made by the people of Ukwa-West for his administration to set up an Oil Producing Area Development Commission naturally fell on a deaf ear. He did not grant the request because, true to his nature, Kalu hates the progress and comfort of his fellow human beings. But no sooner did Chief T. A. Orji become Governor than he set up the Abia State Oil Producing Area Development Commission. That commission has helped immensely in the development of Abia State, particularly the Oil producing areas of the State. Many Traditional Rulers from Ukwa-West had no vehicles but today are proud owners of jeeps that have, for sure, enhanced their status. Kalu has always been a victim of ignorance and, so, will not realize that an elevation of this magnitude for Traditional Rulers in Ukwa-West would go a long way to give impetus to their ‘dignity’. Does this not justify the Governor’s aide’s claim? Kalu’s eight-year governance of Abia State did not witness any quantifiable empowerment of the Abia youth. His administration only recorded donation of ‘Tokumbo’ motor-cycles and wheel-barrows to Abia youths. On the contrary, the Government of Ochendo has motivated Abia youths with more than fifty thousand cars and more than two thousand tricycles, otherwise known as keke- Napep. The beneficiaries of this unparalleled benevolence of the Governor have subsequently become self-employed and are living very responsible lives and discharging their social cum community obligations. He has given most of them buses and cars and state government is believing that most of them will become big transporters and also contribute to the economy of the state. Most of them now have computers, which of course, offer a lot of opportunities for them. Some have barbing saloons and are becoming employers of labour in their own little ways. By the time the entire exercise begins to yield full fruits, it will bring money to the system. The idea, as I said earlier, is to build our youths to be self-reliant. If you neglect the youths, then, there will be a big problem. But the biggest of it all, is to reduce crime, reduce unemployment and by so doing, we will maintain the peace that we have known in Abia. For youths that could only dream of motor-cycles and wheel-barrows during the administration of Kalu to have their taste redirected and their status radically upgraded,Kalu, would not perceive any meaningful restorationof ‘dignity’ in this context. What a pity! In order to address the problem of youth unemployment and its attendant youth restiveness; a twin problem that was unattended to during the era of darkness which Kalu’s Government represented, the T. A. Orji’s Government has offered employment to four thousand and five hundred Abia youths and is encouraging them to acquire useful skills with the money they are paid in order to guarantee a stable future for themselves. Because Kalu would not wish or see anything good in Ochendo’s Government, he would not agree that youths that were hopelessly abandoned by his administration but are now being rehabilitated by Governor T. A. Orji have had their ‘dignity’ restored. While the Federal Government of Nigeria legislated eighteen thousand naira as minimum wage for the Nigerian worker, the Abia State Government, under Ochendo, pays twenty thousand and one hundred naira to her lowest public servant. It is only the devil that will not see restoration of dignity’ in this vivid expression of humanity. In this piece, I do not intend to mention the numerous legacy projects initiated and being executed by the administration of Governor T. A. Orji in the State. Should I talk of the civil servants secretariat complex that is eighty percent completed or the five thousand seat capacity International Conference Centre, also eighty percent completed? If Kalu should claim he has not seen the new functional Industrial market before the University of Agriculture Umudike, would he be justified to say he has not seen the modern Umuahia market at Ubani-Ibeku, which is just conspicuously along his Ohafia-Umuahia Road? There are too many projects to be mentioned that space and time may not permit here. I, however, challenge Orji Kalu for an open contest on the issue of restoration of‘dignity’ for Abians by Governor T. A. Orji. To ascertain how myopic Kalu and his uninformed Odimegwu Onwumere are, one has to compare and contrast between their preposterous claim that there is no restoration of ‘dignity’ in Abia and their contradictory questioning of the source of money with which the wife of the governor, who through her Non-Governmental Organisation;Hannah-May Foundation, has been touching the lives of the less-privileged by building a three- bedroom bungalow, with provision of water and furniture for such people in the State. It is for the reading public to assess and evaluate if indigenes of a State who, hitherto, had no shelter of their own but through the milk of kindness of the Governor’s wife now own their own houses should be said to have been impacted positively on or otherwise.
