I mean where will we get our Chinese phones, Chinese hair braids, Chinese toothpick and other products from?
Hope Nigeria wouldn't suffer more than China. Beautiful question |

Truth be told, they have to be really careful in handling this as nobody knows what the Chinese still have up their sleeves.
Secondly, thinking China will suffer after this is the biggest joke of all time. Just as the world wasn't ready for this pandemic, they are still not industrially ready for a total boycott of China products, especially Africa. So I am seeing a situation where the Chinese will gain from developing countries in Africa, Asia, South America, etc who do not have the capacity to fully boycott their products. |

medube: I have been saying the exact same thing that this virus has been here since December when people were going and coming for Christmas.
By the end of January, I left Abia state, where I work, and came to Akwa Ibom where my family reside, as I always do. The only difference is how I made the drive that day was a miracle because I woke up being very weak and having chills. By the time I got to Ikot Ekpene, I was already coughing. Got into town and took it as probably the extra dust the harmattan brought in January. The days that followed I had a terrible dry cough and hard of breathing. Pain in the chest and chills. Didn't really have a temperature like that. For the first time ever, I decided to visit the doctor for a cough. He checked me out and said my chest is clear, but there seems to be an infection, so he'll treat me for pneumonia. I was given some hard antibiotics and pain killers (paracetamol). I also took my usual quarterly anti-malaria which was due.
Now when all hype of COVID-19 came out, I actually analysed it and realised it may have been what I had. Another thing is everyone in my house, from madam to baby got it. Each person showed different slight symptoms, some none at all.
I thank God, I'm here today to talk about this. It shall all pass by the grace of God. This was how I was breathing back then for a few days. |

AFOLSNETWORKS: In view of the current COVID-19 pandemic ravaging the entire world, I have decided to put out this piece to let every reader know the virus is real, closer to you than you thought and gladly, you can overcome it.
The early part of this year was really a tough one for me and my family because I, my son and wife fell sick. I and my son were seriously sick while my wife was mildly sick as well, sadly, it didn’t stop there, it went on to people we were in close contact with.
It all started on Saturday 11th of January 2020, at that time we were fasting. On that Saturday, I went to town for some little run around and business, when I was done with my business, I decided to get some take away food at a nice restaurant in Wuse II, Abuja. As soon as I broke my fast that day with the same food I got, I started having a dry and persistent cough, I dismissed it as a normal cough that it will soon fade away.
The following morning, which was a Sunday, the cough persisted but I was still hoping it will clear off. We all went to church but couldn’t wait till the church closed, we had to leave earlier because I was feeling feverish. The normal me was trying to fight the fever hoping it will go by the next day. Later that night my wife noticed my body was warmer than normal, so we check with the aid of a thermometer and found out my body temperature was above 38, so I took paracetamol to calm the situation and we all slept. The cough and spike in temperature persisted through the night.
On Monday morning, my wife being a nurse didn’t take the situation lightly. She got an I.V (intravenous) line set and commenced administering drip into my system coupled with malaria and cough treatment. I felt my strength was fast dwindling. I was sweating profusely and I had lost appetite for food. It was like 25% of my consciousness was shut. Yet the fever wouldn’t subside. She also commenced a broad-spectrum antibiotic but all to no avail.
Soon enough my son started spiking and treatment began for him as well. All treatment administered by my wife was in consultation with her doctor colleagues. The days were going by and I wasn’t feeling better.
When our neighbors got to know I wasn’t feeling fine, they came to check up on me at different times. I couldn’t engage them for long as I was mentally down. Before I knew what was going on, the two families caught the infection too and that got me more worried and panic almost set in.
I had not been that sick in a very long time. My energy was so down I had to request for Lucuzade Boost aside several ORS I had to take. The malaria treatment was completed but I wasn’t back to myself, the fever was still there, the cough persisted despite use of good brands of cough syrup and same for my son. We had to change the antibiotics to a stronger one based on prescription. Yet I and my son weren’t getting better. While all this was going on my wife caught the infection too but for God knows why, she wasn’t as knocked off as I and our son were. She could still run around to get medications for us.
On one of the occasions, we had to go to the hospital to unofficially see one of her doctor colleagues to check and probably recommend investigations or medications but we were advised to complete the antibiotics as the test result will not be correct since medication have already commenced. On our way out that day we were asked by a doctor friend who works at the National Hospital Abuja to stop by so she could check me. Haven examined me and with the brief history, she suspected upper respiratory infection as my wife had earlier suspected. Unfortunately, days after, I learnt she and her son contracted the infection (the doctor friend is a sister to our neighbour). I felt so sad and my wife cried because it started from our house and it was escalating super-fast.
All the while, I never wanted to be admitted in a hospital because I believed that will automatically make the situation worse for me, stress my wife and will also get my aged parents worried knowing fully well, I’ve only been on hospital bed once during my service year. While I was about midway into the stronger oral antibiotics and still not getting better, I told my wife, “Please, if I’m not better by tomorrow morning, take me to the hospital”. At that point the reality almost supersede my coping mechanism, I’ve never had such magnitude of mental fatigue. It was like I was fast closing my eyes to this world. It was not funny.
My wife had to put call through again and this time she was advised to administer intravenous antibiotics for both me and my son which I had earlier refused because I felt the matter wasn’t that serious. It was only after then I began to feel better and recover. At that time, I had lost weight and I was frail. I completed the IV antibiotics and felt better but we had to go get some more supportive medication at H-Medix in town, so I drove (we reside at a near suburb to central business district), I thought I was completely ok, when we were done buying stuff, I told my wife, “Please drive.” My energy was zapped, I hadn’t fully recovered from the mental fatigue. I had to take one further week of bed rest before I could fully recover even after completion of medications.
As at January 23rd thereabout, the doctor friend who examined me and suspected upper respiratory infection had been admitted with her son at the National Hospital Abuja, that wasn’t all, her doctor colleague who went to set line for her son at home had also contracted the infection and it spread to the later doctor’s daughter too. A few classmates from my neighbor’s son’s school had reported sick. I got worried and decided to call NCDC to report, but for unknown reason I couldn’t reach them on phone. So, I decided I would go to NCDC office on Monday Jan 27th to lodge a report. Before then, we decided to go visit the doctor friend and her son at The National Hospital on Sunday January 26th.
When we got to the hospital, we met her in good condition. I discussed with her that I will go to NCDC to go lodge a report but she told me the FCT Infectious Disease Control (NCDC) had taken her sample for investigation and that there may be no need to further escalate the matter. This was corroborated by the consultant physician who managed her as he concluded the it was a “Self-Limiting Upper Respiratory Viral Infection”. The doctor and her son got better and were discharged afterward.
Thankfully, everyone I knew of who contracted the disease recovered. Although I subsequently had an inflamed bronchus (my left side), I treated that with heat several times and that was it.
From all indications the following can be deduced from the experience: 1. We dealt with a super contagious viral infection 2. No one could state at what point we individually contracted the virus 3. All the signs and symptoms were no different from that of COVID-19 4. The infection could be fatal if NOTHING is done 5. Not everyone in our close contact contracted the virus (My younger sister and a neighbor’s wife) 6. Covid-19 might have been in Nigeria earlier than announced 7. As far as I know, not less than 20 people contracted the disease
Kindly note I cannot categorically say what we had was COVID-19 because no such investigation was carried out on any of us. The result of the doctor retuned NEGATIVE FOR LASSA FEVER VIRUS and no other viral test was conducted. When Nigeria had the index case for COVID-19, I called NCDC to know if I could get an antibody test but was told they were currently only conducting antigen test for people who show symptoms for COVID-19.
The essence of this write up is to know you can beat a viral infection. Viral infection is not a death sentence but shouldn’t be allowed to progress. Full recovery is also possible if prompt and proper measures are taken.
Stay Safe, Healthy & Secured! I have been saying the exact same thing that this virus has been here since December when people were going and coming for Christmas. It baffles me that in this day and age they are so many stupid people around!!! For people to actually believe that an airport or border was kept open for one person? So since the border was closed, didn't Air Peace fly out to Israel with citizens of Israel? Did it stop them? Does it mean she couldn't have flown in after "closing the border"?
Some fools here actually believe the border na physical gate. |

orangb: I think the woman who lifted the picture from your wife's page is the one who is at fault.
Pears is offering that compensation in place of the original price awarded to the woman who used your baby's picture.
I don't really see a case here. Now the woman who lifted the pic, is at fault (if there truly is a woman and not a story), agreed. But Pears is at fault in the sense that: 1. They are the principal in the promo. 2. They breached their terms and conditions by paying the prize money without confirming and ascertaining she was the rightful parent of the child. 3. Pears have the right to use any pic submitted for their benefit once submitted to them and that's what they did by branding the pic and putting it on their Facebook page where I saw it. So in essence, it is Pears who have offended me and my family by illegally using my daughter's pic and even changing her name. And in turn Pears have an issue with their advertising agency and that agency has a problem with thr person who sent the pic. So it's quite a chain and we are heading to court. |

pat1612: As far as i understand from lawyers letter i dont think you have any ase against unilever as the picture was used by some lady to make gain and not directly by unilever. Also they are not direct organiser of competition and they have outsourced it to some other company.i think is that Company which is responsible for verification of winner but they dint do it. Still if u want to sue them u can make them co defendants as for me i think us women that used your daughter pictures will be first defendant. Also this brings out a very important point of use of social media and how far we want our privacy to be invaded by strangers. Most of social medials have filters and it on us how we use it. For eg my own Facebook nobody can search me online using my email or mobile if he or she is not a friend of friend. Be safe online world is not all gloomy as it seems. My view no offense intended and no litigation can be made on my response here You seem to forget that Unilever is the Principal here. They only contracted it out to an agency. So therefore, my problem is with them and their problem is with their agency. Afterall, the gains of the promo belong to Unilever. Besides my daughter's picture has already been branded a Pears Baby and so they are the ones who have faulted. Secondly, their terms and conditions stated clearly that all participants should have a valid ID, yet the prize money was paid without that confirmation as well. |

Exactly 5 months down the line and we have had no resolution from Unilever, regarding the use of my daughter’s picture and change of name for a fraudulent promo. Even though I thought we were making progress following discussions, I obviously was TOTALLY WRONG!!! The last meeting we held with their representatives from Lagos ended with them waiting on me to take a decision. After consultations with family members, friends and associates, I did take a decision and sent an email to my lawyer to forward to them. Below is the email sent on March 2nd, 2018, which is very self explanatory. “Good day Barrister, Trust you are doing fine. As a follow up to our agreement with the “representatives” of Unilever Nigeria PLC, I have concluded meetings with family members and associates. Our points are as follows: 1. On November 3rd, 2017 the picture of our daughter was branded, her name illegally changed and posted on the Facebook page of Pears Nigeria. This singular ILLEGAL act has brought my family so much unwanted exposure, embarrassment and trauma as you already aware. 2. On November 15th, 2017 we wrote them a letter requesting them to respond within 7 days. They totally and blatantly ignored us and only called weeks later, which was on the same day that I had narrated my story on social media. As a follow up, we received their response dated December 18th, 2017, which came as a bigger insult. Their response, insensitive and impenitent as it was, now turned the whole table around and tried to make my family seem as the culprits. Whoever wrote that letter on their behalf totally ignored the fact Unilever Nigeria PLC, makers of Pears Baby products, were the ones who had wronged us. 3. On January 11th, 2018 we were visited by 2 gentlemen, the CEO of the company that runs online promos for Unilever Nigeria PLC and a partner lawyer to Unilever Nigeria PLC, who were supposed “representatives” of Unilever Nigeria PLC. After, finally having the decency and appropriacy of sending these gentlemen to sit and talk with us, as should have been done from the very beginning, we decided to use a compassionate mind to accept their explanation and apology BUT grant them some time to go back and discuss with the company on our demands regarding being compensated for the damages that had been caused. 4. On March 1st, 2018, we were then visited again by these 2 gentlemen. At this meeting, we were made to understand that because of an indemnity clause in the contract between Unilever Nigeria PLC and advertising firm, which does not in any way concern me or my family, Unilever Nigeria PLC had exonerated themselves and pushed the whole burden of this blunder onto the advertising firm. Based on this very notable fact, we were then pleaded with to accept an offer of N1m (one million) Naira as compensation for damages. This as you are very aware, is not even up to 1% of our demand. Regardless of the percentage value of offer to demand and aside the fact that the expenses we have already incurred have greatly exceeded N5m, if we also put into consideration the foreign expenses so far made, our daughter and the damages they have caused her, and our entire household is worth far more than N1m. Based on these 4 VERY IMPORTANT points stated above, we have decided as follows: 1. Even though an apology from one Mrs. Anjorin, the supposed person who submitted our daughter’s picture without our consent, has been published on various social media pages belonging to Pears Nigeria, we will still require an official apology letter from Unilever Nigeria PLC directly to us to be posted on same platforms. 2. Putting into considerations the developments we were informed of between Unilever Nigeria PLC and the advertising firm and the pleadings of 2 gentlemen that came to meet with us, we have decided to reduce our demand from the initial amount of Bleep to Bleep. Yes, it is a fact that no amount whatsoever can fix and/or repair the damages caused, but if any amount is to be settled let it be something worth settling. As you already know being my lawyer, I am not a desperate person and not out to make any form of profit using any member of my family, BUT I stand for justice. You are also very aware that we have similar cases with other companies and settlement attempts they have made, which were far more than N1m that we refused. I do admit, I am quite saddened by the way Unilever Nigeria PLC has shoved the whole burden to the advertising firm as explained by the CEO, but I would rather no member of my family nor myself interfere in the contracts and business between 2 establishments. Even though we are deeply sorry for any setbacks this will cause the advertising firm, but it is extremely important to remember that we have been the victims and nobody else. And as far as we are concerned, our issue is with Unilever Nigeria PLC and nobody else. You can go ahead an inform them of our decisions as we are going to patiently wait till the end of March 2018 for this issue to be COMPLETELY concluded. We sincerely hope it does not stretch any further than it already has. Thank you.” Even though this is a direct quote of the email I sent to my lawyer, I have removed the old and new demand amount, but I assure you a substantial amount was deducted based on the circumstances. I have also removed the names of the 2 gentlemen who were representatives as I do not at this time have any personal issues with either of them. But, up until now, we have not received any response and quite frankly, I have ran out patience. While my lawyer is filing a suit against #unilevernigeria, I want this story to go round on social media, online news medias, print medias, etc. I don’t think we need to remind #unilevernigeria that if this crap was done in the US or UK, they would have had it settled a long time ago. So is it safe to say that they assume we don’t know our rights in Nigeria? As I stated in my email to my lawyer, I am not interested in any business between 2 establishments. All I know is #pearsnigeria a brand of #unilevernigeria; • Used my daughter’s picture and changed her name WITHOUT my consent or that of my wife, who happen to be her parents and legal guardians. • Used my daughter’s picture for an online promotion. In marketing, promotion refers to any type of marketing communication used to inform or persuade target audiences of the relative merits of a product, service, brand or issue. The aim of promotion is to increase awareness, create interest, generate sales or create brand loyalty. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Promotion_(marketing) • Exposed my daughter and entire family publicly thereby invading on our privacy. • Ran a fake and fraudaulent promo by lifting a picture of my daughter from my wife’s Instagram page and changing her name so we would not be able to trace it. Like I have said earlier ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!! I want this to go as far as possible until justice is served. Kindly rebroadcast tagging them, their international offices and their products on every social media platform and please link up any online news or blog sites that you may know. In the meantime, I will also be contacting some big print media and TV houses in and out of Nigeria. I am a husband and a father and will do whatever it takes to always protect my family. Admin I would appreciate if this is moved to the front page so that there will be #justiceforfaria.
